im not interested in doing a speedrun. i'd rather take my time with games i love this much but i gotta ask are the short cuts required for 101%? or is it only the bonus and warps that count?
I was hoping Cranky would give a different message if you did beat the game with one life and in under an hour, like “You did a fantastic job! You’ve done me proud!” As if the ultimate challenge wasn’t defeating K. Rool, but winning Cranky’s respect.
I didn't know that! Thanks for the trivia! :D I guess Isaac Marshall was or still is a master gamer who may, or may not have created the art of speedrunning...
@@Gecko1993HogheadIncOfficial Actually I think the art of speedeunning was back in the NES era with Metroid giving you different endings based on how fast you beat the game. But Isaac ir another playtester must've been a god gamer to pull off the cranky challenge.

Enough to let u know that everybody was trolled by nintendo. I'm telling u this because there are secrets like false deaths, shortcuts and useless areas such as "kong banana hoard" which is accessible in the first stage but almost everyone enter in it after completing the game.
It's really nothing compared to Donkey Kong 64. That game is insane to get every collectible on. At least DKC lets you know what stages you've found everything secret on with an exclamation point on the stage select screen, and telegraphs almost every secret room with some kind of clue like an inexplicably positioned barrel, banana arrows, or a corner of the warp barrel visible on-screen. A teleological mind will find most of them eventually, frustrating as it is.
@@TheHiroBlade dk64 was a collectithon, this is a platformer, and honestly dk64 had some terrible design choices, I loved the game, but there was so much that should have been done better so we weren't playing the same stages at least 5 times just to get everything.
@@alexjohnward That reminds me of my of something similar: I I loved Warcraft 2 as a child, and played the shit out of it when we got our first PC. (probably mid 90s) I ran into problems on I think the 4th level of the game because the tile set was really dark. (it took place in a corrupted area closer to the portal) The game itself was still really easy, but I needed to find oil to build ships, as the enemy on that stage was across the sea. The problem? I couldn't see the oil; like at all. I knew that there were oil deposits on the sea, because I had collected oil in earlier levels to build ships. But the sea on this tileset was darker, and I couldn't distinguish between oil and water. Every. Single. Stage. that was set on that tileset involved me sending ships into the sea, and just clicking around in their wake, hoping to select oil deposits. It got to the point where I memorized oil locations on the different stages, so I knew were to go when I replayed it. And it wasn't until years latter that I realized that this hadn't been a deliberate mechanic. Turns out I just had a Really old, tiny, crappy monitor, set up in the brightly lit living room, that had crappy, really dark backlighting.
That's truly impressive. I like to hunt 100%+ in games but speedrun is just too much for me cause i play a lot of different tittles. You have to master the game and it takes ironically, a lot of time.
Any particular reason he always picks the "wrong" one in the which-barrel-is-the-item-in bonus levels? Is the fail animation faster than the success one? PS - Cranky says "What a player you are, Donkey my lad"... but it was Diddy who did most of the work! :)
I honestly didn't think it was possible. I 101%'d the game the other day and I completed it in just under 7 hours. I could have done it a lot quicker if I'd known that you didn't have to complete all bonus levels nor collect all the Kong letters to get 101%. I wasted so much time on stuff that didn't even matter, but at least I know that I got everything, and I mean everything. If I messed up in a bonus room I would kill myself to start the level over.
tEm paY fo c0olEg!!1 I think once you beat a stage you can start select in the stage to exit it instead of completing it again. So they beat it once then went back and got the bonus stages and by pressing start select at the last bonus stage they were able to just quit the stage without having to waste the extra time getting to the end again.
I cannot get past 100%, and I could swear I did them all, and compared with each... Just to check, do water-levels have any “bonus rooms” that count toward the 101% ?

It depends on the route. When I have already beaten a level, I can do Start+Select to exit the minigame, but this is not available if the level isn't beaten yet.
It includes what is necessary for the game to give you 101%, i.e. all secret bonus rooms. You don't have to get all KONG letters or all the hidden extra lives, for instance.
