That stroker crank scares me. The mace cranks are known to snap at 500hp, factory cranks are tested to 1000+ so far. Hopefully it survives for you Scotty!

owned a 93vn fpr 13 years found out there are 3 different timing covers and 2 oil pump drives but the water pump is the same for the next 2 models! wish I still owned it!
My first thought when you broke down was crank angle sensor, been there done that in a similar situation in a VT, pain in the arse but so much better than some of the alternatives you can breakdown with. Keep up the good work Scotty.

As much as i shit on Holdens in general; the 3.8lt Buick is a great little motor. I built a 4.0lt stroker with small twin turbos for my old 1993 VR Executive with a built auto, was a great cruiser, dipped into the 11's, and as the turbos were low mounted- a great sleeper. Just a fun car to have and was very reliable

9:50 Does the blower have a sealed bearing in the front? If so, it is common for sealed ball bearings to initially expel grease. The faster the bearing is spun the more grease comes out. SKF has excellent docs on this. Sealed ball bearings are not 100 % full, overfilling a bearing leads to higher temps due to friction and breakdown of the grease.
If the car is warm and you think it's the crank angle sensor, you can tip some water behind the harmonic balancer and it'll cool it and let you start it. I went through 2 in the 5 years i had mine. It never cut out, just wouldn't start again once it was warm.
Tip For storing stuff that rusts Grab a bag of wood chip or paper kitty litter and some old socks or small cloth bags or pantyhose and stuff some kitty litter in them to put in with the stuff you’re storing to soak up moisture. Why wood chip or paper? Because you can also use it to soak up oil spills and then burn it to heat the shop...
I also remember the 90s camrys and how capable they were of moving. But they were considered an old person’s car, so the young blokes wouldn’t touch them 😂
A '94 3L V6 Camry is still the toughest car alive. Can't kill them and the motors are 1000hp capable like a 2JZ is. 😈 Only problem then is 1000hp and FWD. 😳😬
GM should have put the L67 in the Firebird/Camaro 4th gens. They do have a nice NA L36 cast alloy upper and lower intake with the throttle body in the right place, not up the rear with an elbow or hanging off the side.
Am I the only one who wants to see a small hump welded on and the bonnet painted red, with the stock wheels back on it will have that sleeper look again
Out of curiosity, when the crank angle sensor died, did you try the pouring water over it to see if it starts trick? It's common when these crank angle sensors shit themselves in these 3.8s that if you pour water over it and it starts it's the sensor that's the issue.

At least that steel pipe behind the pulley is easy to deal with, ford intech heater pipe from the water pump is a nightmare job and the end to the water pump is always rusted n they don't make them anymore

I promise if you put a second tensioner on you will make more boost with the smaller pulley and also being adjustable you can use the same belt on a couple of pulleys. Pretty sure baz sells a tensioner that will bolt onto the machined snout you have. They don't sound like they slip but they always do and I promise there is boost left on the table without an extra tensioner
Looks like another beautiful sunny day in Melbourne... You may want to keep that smaller pulley handy for when you stick the stroker in it. Not everyone has your smarts when it comes to there being a negative result. Bigger isn't always better (or smaller in this case) but it may be useful once you add a few more cubes. Did you ever sort out that pipe sucking issue? Looks like you still have a rubber hose at the far back.

2.55" makes more power than a 2.8" scotty, just need a snout tensioner to increase the surface area over the pulley. Pulley slip is a B1#CH... Should be able to run a 2.42' pulley with an 8rib
One of the few Commodores i have owned was a VP. Crank angle went in the middle of the city down the main nightlife street in Adelaide. That sucked as while waiting for a tow truck i had a 1000 drunk "mechanics" telling me they could fix it while walking past...

@@jesuschrist-zw5pv 3.08 is the stock ratio, maybe 3.04 from memory, you will not notice the difference - thats all autos.. you say vx, if its a early vx it may have the vt s1 4 bolt yoke, if so just change your drive shaft and diff from a later vx/vy. some vx has vt s1 rear cradles as well which dont have camber adjustment so youd have to do a cradle swap. it shouldnt be expensive at all. hope it helps.

What is the standard throttle blade size on one of those things? Had to look twice to see the difference. Then I noticed that they had machined a bit out of the ID. Looks like maybe a 2mm throttle blade OD difference?
It's a lot more than that. I agree the camera didn't show it very well. The standard throttle body is just under 64mm. So the new TB is 16% bigger in surface area

Thats not true. The m90 is only limited atm because its completly stock besides pulley. Bigger tb wont do much maybe small increase. You can got alot further but they need porting,larger elbow and tb.

I've got a 2003 vy series 2 factory L67 I can confirm everything Scotty's said about the crank sensor problems you get 0 warning engine randomly turns off sets fault code and is super annoying/dangerous
Got a Canadian Engineering pre-requisite under feather weight sanctions living on bird seed and boiled flax cellulose pudding... Barrel Plow? drifter plower... see drifter, gets plowed. 4.6 V8 locked up 8.8 and tire chains. 4000 pound thud into the drift one bit at a time, chains for revers not pushing... the 4.6 tares bars off in a few minuets of forward going 4000psi tensile links of the 3/8 are no good, needs 5/8 gr8 for tire chains.

It has a roller bearing with a seal in front of it. The seal might be shot.

It still sucks in at the back, but this is a short term set-up. we have something bigger in the works.
