That little bit at the end with the side view while they’re jamming and moving back-and-forth is one of the coolest moments ever caught on film during a concert. The “Bob & Judy” in the song are Bob Zellner and his wife. Bob was a civil rights advocate involved with SNCC in the 60s, among other organizations. The only reason I know this is because Bob told me when I met him. Somehow the topic of music came up and he mentioned the Talking Heads and I was like “Oh I love that song! Damn I wish I had recorded that conversation, I can’t remember what it all had to do with television writing.
man, they still haven't brought out the percussionists, the keyboards ... just slowly cranking it up little by little, filling out the sound. i don't notice it so much when i'm just watching it straight through, or playing the album, but pausing every song to talk about each song, and for me knowing what's coming, the tension just builds and builds man. it's so much fun that y'all are doing this. thank you so much for being interested and coming back to the mid-career movie here. it blows me away to think they were only together 16 years really -- wikipedia says 1975 to 1991. and yet their influence feels like is everywhere, and David still cranking out the energy and ideas and vibes today.
David wanted everyone to wear neutral colors. Chris the drummer wore what he wanted. He thought it would piss off David. Jerry Harrison, the second guitar player, was the last to join the group. They started as a three piece. Jerry had been in a band called The Modern Lovers. They had some great music themselves, before Talking Heads. He plays keyboards later in the concert.
That is not true. Frantz's laundry had not come back in time for the first show at the Pantages, and so he wore a turquoise-colored polo shirt for all three nights for continuity.
Reviewing brilliant songs like this may help save your relationship. Enjoy the film; I went to see them a couple of years before Stop Making Sense came out, dragging along some dreadful mates, when TH were bedding in the funk. It's been my measure of how good a live performance could be for nigh on forty years. I don't suppose anyone is going to match it now. It's on More Songs About Buildings And Food. along with some other belters.
Interesting. I saw this show in Portland, Maine in 1983 and have never gone to another show. When people ask me why I say "I've seen it. I can only be disappointed now." I'm glad I saw Springsteen before them lol. Cheers!
Not so much dancers.... Although the choreography in this is incredible. Think if you saw it happening, there are no Jumbotrons and massive screens, just the broad pieces of the performance. It's all a complete "piece"... Maybe even "a happening" (Flutist). Sorry to dork out... they are actually design school drop outs. The color scheme and aesthetic are a thoughtful element and a point of discussion and, if I recall correctly, some disagreement. David is a great photographer and sculpture. You should checkout the buildings he wired and placed servo and mallets in and actually played. Another fun fact to confirm, I think he is Van Morison's cousin. Johnathan Demme shot it (Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia many others)
Wish I was seeing this for this for the first time again, but as to the clothing they are all have normal 84 clothes on they did not want to ware a band outfit or uniform
Damn that television! What a bad picture! Don't get upset, It's not a major disaster. There's nothing on tonight, he said, I don't know what's the matter. Nothing's ever on, she said, So, I don't know why you bother. We've heard this little scene, We've heard it many times, People fighting over little things, And wasting precious time. They might be better off, I think, The way it seems to me, Making up their own shows, Which might be better than T.V. Judy's in the bedroom, Inventing situations, Bob is on the street today, Scouting out locations. They've enlisted all their family, They've enlisted all their friends, It helped save their relationship, And made it work again. Their show gets real high rated, They think they have a hit, There might even be a spin-off, But they're not sure about that. If they ever watch T.V. again, It'd be too soon for them. Bob never yells about the picture now, He's having too much fun. Judy's in the bedroom, Inventing situations, Bob is on the street today, He's scouting out locations. They've enlisted all their family, They've enlisted all their friends, It helped save their relationship, And made it work again. So think about this little scene, Apply it to your life, If your work isn't what you love, Then something isn't right. Just think of Bob and Judy, They're happy as can be, Inventing situations, Putting them on T.V. Judy's in the bedroom, Inventing situations, Bob is on the street today, He's having a vacation! They've enlisted all their family, They've enlisted all their friends, It helped save their relationship, And made it work again. Hit it!
My one criticism of this version is that it's a shortened version of the song, with the last two verses mashed together. But it gets the point across.

They’re definitely still a huge influence! Can’t wait to see the full band/stage setup

@@mittensledermann9562 That’s not what he said in an interview.
@@blitztim6416 Tina Weymouth said it in an interview with the New York Times last year. I guess we'll never know which story is true 😆
They had been playing this song a long time 🤔 even by this time frames standard when Demme filmed this. 🍿🐰
The bass line on this song, invented by Tina, is legendary. Much copied and covered.
She’s a bass master
Fun bass line.
BASSSSSSSS LINE
Strong song
Very!

Oh, man, I wanna send this to Chris. I'll ask him if Tina was a dancer. I know she was an art student.
Let us know!
@@SightAfterDark , will do.
@@SightAfterDark , message sent. He's a good fellow; maybe he'll answer the dancing Tina question and give insight into the blue shirt enigma.
