    yup, that's the way I was first taught. Putting mono on first. But the friend that told me to do that said he did that because braid was so pricey. But I have a super small reel I'm putting it on right now so I'm definitely not doing that. I didn't think it mattered though how you spooled braid. I've never had line twist or anything like I do with mono or fluorocarbon line. Interesting. This video is just what I needed! Thanks! 🤩

    Much appreciated video! Just ordered my reel for my blowgun, and coming from small lake fishing in my past, braided was never on the table, not needed. But blowgun hunting allows me to get squirrels, birds, fish, frogs, etc., so I need that #30 braided wire which is the max rating on my reel. I wont need nearly 100 yards of the stuff, but will probably keep about 50 on there. Thanks for de-mystifying. Talking to old fisherman about lures and lines and rods and such is a just an argument anymore!

      It has to do with how tight the braid is originally spooled, if you spool it tight, it won’t slip, otherwise it can and will.

    • @shperax
      @shperax Рік тому +7

      If your reel gets wet it's very likely to start slipping. I always tie it on with slip knots and go extremely tight to begin with and end with medium pressure.

    • @ninodog10309
      @ninodog10309 7 місяців тому

      That’s incorrect! I don’t care how tight you make the braid if you have a rod or reel that sits for a while overtime whether it was put on tight or not, the braid will eventually slip.
      You either need backing or a piece of tape @@alexanderzatusevschi4309

    The mono backing thing started not because braid slips. It was because braid used to be twice as expensive so people would buy 150 yards of braid and fill the rest with mono. 400+ yards of braid cost a fortune

    I've never used a mono backer for any reels whether they're casting or spinning. Never had braid come off. Then again you should have plenty of line on the reel in the first place. If you're down to the reel when you cast, put more line on but I know common sense isn't very common nowadays🤷🏻‍♂️

      I use a single layer of electrical tape, a simple knot to make a tiny loop, and invert the string through the loop.
      You'll have one side that bights into the reel and one side that does nothing but spin. When you start to real in, there no guesswork haha

    Relying on a label to put your line on in the correct direction is dumb. Manufactering mistakes can cost you a 30 dollar Power pro spool. Use your head and notice that if the line comes off of the spool to the left it will go on without twisting on a reel retreaving to the left. Bill Dance explained it 30 years ago. I did my best ; )

    Point your left and right index finger directly towards each other in front of your face. They need to both move in the same direction or they will twist. If your left finger spins towards you, your right finger does too. Don't twist your line it will cost you in presentation, frustration, and fish.
