Good video and useful tips. The Pflueger President spinning reel you have comes with a braid ready spool. If you notice there is several vertical dark lines on your spool base. These are made of rubber. It is designed to provide grip for the braided line to hold onto while one is initially starting to wind line on the spool. Not as effective as your method but that was how Pflueger addressed it. 🙂
Thanks for the video. As a retired judge I used to tell people in the courtroom all of the time, "There is no shame in ignorance. We are ALL born with two things in common. 1. We are ALL born naked. There's no choice in that. 2. We are ALL born ignorant. That is why there is no shame in ignorance. Now, as we go through life, we learn things... The difference between good and bad, right and wrong, moral and immoral... All important things to learn. We all also learn different things about different subjects as we go through life. There's not a single person alive that knows everything. There's not even one person alive that knows everything there is to know about ONE thing. We are born ignorant and we live our entire lives being ignorant about something... Many things. This is why there is no shame in ignorance. Now, if we learn something, and we choose to continue to do things contrary to the knowledge we have, that is not ignorance. That is called stupidity. There IS shame in stupidity."

Thank you fir sharing. Let me give you little advise. Instead of using electrical tape that will take up some spool space, and you will end up with residue from the electric tape. Also is usually to wide fir some of the small crappie reels. Use plumbers pipe tape. It’s thin, has no residue and is narrow and will work great to do the same process. Again, thanks fir sharing.
@@richardmciver9466 ya, my phone is stuck on fir every time I try to type for. Really I think it’s my right thumb drifts to the left, needs zeroed in a little better. Lol
you look at the reel from the back, the bail is spinning counterclockwise, therefore, the spool of line laying down should unwind the line counter clockwise as well (coming off to the left when looking down on it). Electrical tape is smart, I use an old tshirt for tension. well done sir.
Thanks man! WIll give this a try! Tired of birdsnests, and wind knots. Took my reel to 2 places to get spooled, windknots both times. This way makes the most sense; looking forward to trying this out.
Braid is at least twice as expensive as monofilament. My spinning reel said it would hold 130 yards of 8 pound mono but I had 150 yards of braid which is substantially thinner than mono. I used 10 pound mono backing because I don't want glue or sticky tape on my reel. I'm glad i did because the braid alone would not have filled the reel. I am not a frequent user of spinning reels because I prefer bait casting but the braid casts much better than mono and doesn't have the memory of mono so there's not lots of extra line pulling off the reel to get tangled in the bail or crank.
Yes to all of this! There are plenty of options for people and no single right or wrong way to go about it. Find what works best for you and your setup and stick to it!
I bought few days ago braid, for my fishing rod and it was almost FOUR( 4) times more expensive, line was like 7 euros, braid 25 euros, not sure how much it's in euros, probably line 8,9 dollara, braid almost 30 , but it's worth every penny. I use my rod mostly for eging( squid and cuttlefish jigging) and sometimes for jigging predator fishes like seabass, atlantic bonito, blue fish, amberjack. Here in Adriatic Sea( part of Meditterean sea) in Croatia now is squid season and eging is the most popular kind of shore fishing here) .
Powerpro no longer has completely circular small spools anymore. You have to only use the pencil trick now. Unless you have a spooler machine. The line kept getting caught on the notch and kept flipping the whole spool, peeling off and dancing around on my floor lol
Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.
Yes thanks this was very helpful 😄 I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me what the next step is after this? Should I remove what's left of the line from the roll and use all of it to work with, or do I trim it, leaving some on the roll it came from and using from where I trimmed? Using a 300M line as I'm sure is expected 😅 thanks if anyone can help x
Do what you want with the left overs on the roll, as long as you do what the video says, leaving 1/8 inch of spool free of line (meaning dont let the line wrap all the way to the very edge of the spool) or you will get lots of problems on your fishing trip. I have many rolls with like 50 some 100 yards of line left on them laying around. Still have not figured what I want to do with them….garden trellis?
Anytime line comes off a spinning reel it twists one turn per loop. If it's twisted on the spool it untwists as it comes off with no twists between the spool and end of line. If you put it on the spool without twists it comes off twisted between the spool and end of line. In fact, a 100' cast can put over 200 twists between reel and lure/bait and when you lift your lure/bait out of the water between casts some of the twists come out...several per cast. In short order, the first 100' or so off your reel ends up twisted on your spool anyway. Especially after your first line break. Tight lines!
The president series of reels has 4 rubber bumpers (those black raised parts on the spool) to catch braided line, the tape is superfluous in this example.
Great Vid. Only comment is since braid is abrasive you protected finger but not rod. Was rod ok or scratched? Maybe worth putting tape on rod where your going to pinch it too for reassurance. Or use a bit of rag and pinch braid with that between two fingers or finger and rod. Will use method for putting braid on my reel later in week.
Really good tip on the electrical tape, never heard that before. And to show how "duh" I can be, the overhand knot so simple. I've always used the standard fishing knot, 5, thru and back over. All was very informative.

The president XT 4000 series reel allows braid to be spooled on directly. Still a good method and what I have done on a few reels, but instead of electrical tape I use Teflon tape. But still a good, informative video.

Angling With Alex Thanks, but it turns out I never had any line left over in the end as the guy in the shop miscalculated the yards/metres conversion and so I’m left with a 5mm gap after using 150 metres. Probably could’ve got another 75 metres on there, but they only sell in 150m or 300m.

The memory in the line is rarely an issue with the braid. This is more of a mono filament line issue. Warm water can help for sure but I've not found it necessary for braided line. It's up to you!
many reels make a sound while reeling in. lower quality reels and older reels are especially susceptible to this. Shouldn't make much difference - just a bit annoying sometimes haha

Can you do a video and show getting line on line roller the correct way.
1lkydad 75 lol
Thank you, this worked perfect. Good straightforward video.
Thank you!
Well done, thank you.
You're welcome!
Thank you for the helpful tip.
I put a 15 lb braid on a $20 Shakespeare rod and get no slips. I put 2 regular knots and then a slipknot
So there is no muscle memory? I dont need any warm water or anything?
The memory in the line is rarely an issue with the braid. This is more of a mono filament line issue. Warm water can help for sure but I've not found it necessary for braided line. It's up to you!
Angling With Alex okey, thanks for answer, great video :)
Easy thx man
Great video, extremely helpful.
Is it normal for it to make a sound while reeling in?
many reels make a sound while reeling in. lower quality reels and older reels are especially susceptible to this. Shouldn't make much difference - just a bit annoying sometimes haha
Angling With Alex thanks bro I appreciate it. Recently got a combo from Walmart for 20 bucks and was super good quality for the price. Just put braid on it and it’s doing good! I love people that think expensive rigs will make them better fishermen
@@TC-hw5ve now you just need a fish on the end of your line!
Angling With Alex yessir!
Neat, in the first vid you spool a Cardinal and in this vid a President and i have both lol. 👍
The cardinal was a starter freebie from my dad. The President was my upgrade when there was a good sale. President all the way baby!
Will this effect my reel at all
What do you mean?
Angling With Alex will it damage my reel at all
Won't damage your reel. If you want to go back to mono it's as easy as striping the braided off and spoiling on your new line.
nice video thanks!
Anytime Todd! Thank you!
Braid doesn't have memory or twist - it doesn't matter how you spool it as long as you do it under tension. The radial direction of transfer only maters with mono.
If i do it on fluorocarbon, the direction of the spool is facing and my reel matters?
Zašto stavlja traku na rolu prije namatanje?
The method of choice, thanks again
Thanks!
1. What's a braided line? 2. Overhand knots are black magic. 3. Time for me to find another "new" hobby.
Overhand knot is the most simple knot to knot, you learn them in pre k
Nuts
Thx
You're welcome!
Is there really a need for the electrical tape?
helps stop the braid from slipping and spinning on the smooth metal surface of the spool.
@@yea_i_podagee_so_what slipping when all your line is out?
@@grum7384 no slipping when your trying to retrieve line. the entire spool of line will spin if it doesn't have anything to grip. even under tight drag
@@yea_i_podagee_so_what ohh okay I get you now. Thanks very much!
It's not 100% necessary - just an added precaution I like to do.
I can't get this to work I just wastes 2 rolls. I tried every way it just keeps twisting.
So when I start to reel in nothing happens the line doesn’t spool …
This is what I needed. Thanks for the help! Easy to watch/understand.
