"Mewsette is a country feline who dreams of experiencing the wonders of Paris". Oh, so that means Mewsette might be a lost non-Disney princess
lol
FUCKING BUBBLES
LOL: Right On!
What can i say,it was hard to resisit
Remember when gay meant happy? Good times, good times...
So a movie about a young girl who goes to Paris for the very first time, meets a man who pretends to befriend her but in actuality wants to sell her in a trafficking scheme, and a tough loved one from home has to come save her....why does that sound familiar?
Wait, a song in a kids movie caused by two characters getting drunk and seeing different color versions of them with a strange song in the background...
Oh no!
Chase them away!
Chase them away!
I'm afraid.
Need your aid.
Pink Elephants on Parade!
+Elijah T (elimasterblaster) What'll I do? What'll I do?
What an unusual view! ;)
+Marleena Ulry I always covered my eyes on that part (with the two ghost elephants)
It's like the "Pink Elephant" song from the movie 'Dumbo'.
The 60s where different times.
Bubbles, Bubbles, millions and millions of bubbles! Lol, I remember finding this movie at Hollywood Video and that was the song that my sister and I really took to. 😆 It was just so funny.
I remember asking my mom to rent this from block buster but she misunderstood me and rented a movie called Gay Parade. True story. I kept thinking, "When are the cats going to show up?" But they never did.
I lost it at. "Except for the phone, you still have to pay for that."
Johnny T (Glove and Boots): "You gotta pay for dat."
UPA pioneered the art of limited animation. This shows that it could be used artisticly instead of just to cut costs.
lol
7:50 Paul Frees is one of the most impressive voice actors of that time period. From his big bombastic bellowings of the BurgerMeister Meister Burger and the Green Giant, to his scrawny and higher pitched cackles of Grimsley (assistant to Burger Meister) and Jack Frost from Frosty's Winter Wonderland. He even has roots in Disney doing the Narrator of Donald in Math Magic Land, and the Ghost Host in the Haunted Mansion.
And he did all the adult male characters (with the exception of the Count, the Narrator, and the Rock Man) in "The Point."
This chamber has no windows and no doors…
He did many voices for Jay Ward Productions, including Boris Badenov,Captain Peachfuzz and Inspector Fenwick. For Disney he also was Prof. Ludwig Von Drake.
Finally! I found the cartoon that I like saw when I was 3 or 4, and could never remember the name to it. None of my parents knew what I was on about. But it is this. I know it is. European city, light colour palette, male cat rescues female cat from evil cat gang, 2D drawing animation, and a boat on river scene. It is this, It has to be.
I knew Musette and Meowrice sounded familiar! I can't believe I didn't get their voices so quickly though.
I'll admit, the shadowy cat henchmen scared me when I was younger.
Interestingly there was a pop song the same year this movie came out (1962) called Roses Are Red (My Love) by Bobby Vinton with the lyrics "Roses are red my love, violets are blue" Also this was the year before Chuck Jones started working on his version of Tom and Jerry shorts.
The backgrounds and minion cats in this are awesome.
I haven't seen this movie in year's but I still remeber all the songs and I actually loved them
OH YES!! WATERSHIP DOWN!!! I am so looking forward to that review XD; and remember, IT'S A FAMLIY PICTURE!!
Are you sure it's Watership down? Because I don't what that has to do with sharp teethed creatures, I guess they help set the scene in the opening but the antagonist is more humans forcing them to move homes got the main part
JGstarzintheireyes Yeah it is, if you listen to the music in the background when he looks up the next review it's the opening music for Watership Down
I saw it years and years ago on Cartoon Network in the mid-90s, and I remember liking it at the time, although it wasn't exactly a masterpiece, either.
This movie has a special place in my heart because I used to watch it as a kid in the 90s. My parents had it recorded off cable from the 80s, when my sister was little. I agree on the backgrounds, they make the movie for me. It's not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination but I like it anyway.
Like I said in the april fools version of this video, the money cat song was one I had a hard time forgetting due to over exposure to this movie as a kid. That and it's really freaking catchy. I still forgot pretty much all the rest over time and even forgot that one for a while because I forgot the movie as a whole but when I saw the april fools version of this I immediately remembered it. Pink Elephants on Parade will always be a more memorable drunk song than...Bubbles..
He said cats, it must be felidae
+david hoenig Listening to the score in the background as he's talking about it, it's Watership Down that's next. He didn't say it was about cats, he said it had talking animals and said: "we're not talking about cute little cats.."
Hopefully.
I first saw this movie when I was about six or seven. My grandma had it on VHS. I liked it. (Probably didn't hurt that cats are my favorite animal.)
I'm not gonna lie, the main reason I gave this movie a watch is because I ADORE Judy Garland! She has the best voice of ALL TIME and is my favorite celebrity EVER!
+Chris Jones
Well your in good hands, plenty of people agree about her singing. Plenty of people, Disney voice actress's included, thought she was the best.
*****
I won't say she was better, but I LOVE Audrey Hepburn. Sign me up for Moon River!
***** I must disagree! I ADORE Audrey Hepburn, but her singing isn't anything special and is just a little above average. She's better as an actress than she is a singer. Her singing can't possibly compare to the power, strength, emotion, soul, and personality that Judy put into her singing. But that's just my opinion.
*****
I do love her as an actress. I have so much fun with Roman Holiday. But there is a reason Judy Garland is considered one of the best singers.
Tyler Bioshock R That's for sure!
0:27 O hai Zone-tan.
The 'Bubbles' song might as well be re-written and called 'FUCKIN' BUBBLES!'
FUCKIN BUBBLES
Cellspex right?
You inspired me to learn French in your last video.
Actually, in The Money Cat's defense, I think the slightly non-threatening nature of the song works to its advantage. Think about it, Maurice in the film's not so much evil (villain though he may be), but more a greedy con-artist. So it makes sense that his song would personify his greed by making similar in style to an advertising pitch of just what he's capable of. It also helps that he has some black cat assistants voiced in the song by the late Mellomen; a.k.a., one of Disney's main staples back in the 40's through 60's and lead by the king of bass singing (and one of my personal heroes), Thurl Ravenscroft.
I saw this movie when I was a child in the 1960s. I remembered it vaguely.
I totally remember watching this when I was a kid. I really liked it at the time. Also, I'm pretty sure I had that roses are red and violets must be blue song stuck in my head a lot. Might have sang it too XD. Now that I think of it, I pretty sure I really enjoyed Bubbles as well lol.
Yeah I watched this all the time as a kid, I was surprised to learn about Chuck Jones involvement in it and WB fired him and his staff once they found out as he was violating his exclusivity deal
I love this movie, its cute
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess it's Watership Down? *shudders*
It could be worse, Felidae and Plague Dogs are darker than Watership Down
Because I always said that the Aristocats would have been a better movie if it had been like the Aristocrats.
Guess what the reference is to?
Give up? It's Brandon Tenold's review of Felidae.
Wow! I never would have guessed the next review being The Secret of NIMH 2!
The first time I watched this was last year and of what I watched this was amazing. I think I missed at least 20 minutes at the beginning though.
I love this film. Basically its a naive girl is not given the full picture and only wants the good parts cause that's all she knows. This starts her story of being tricked for weeks by only getting that good part. Her boyfriend tries to find her to bring her back but is also tricked. Now in the end the cats out of the bag boyfriend saves the day. Simple but cute.
(VOICE AT VOLUME 10) I TAKE IT THIS IS THE ENGLISH VERSION?"
Yeah, he retitled the original April fools version as the French version. Pretty good for the non French speakers at the time of the original upload.
I really liked the painting pieces that featured Mewsette. Also the backgrounds were beautiful
Watership Down! Fucking yes!
He did Animal Farm, he may as well do that one too!
+Straight White Cis Male Oppressive Shitlord LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!
Davin Long ME TOO! IT'S ONE OF MY FAVOURITE ANIMATED FILMS OF ALL TIME!
WHY ARE WE TALKING IN CAPS?
+Straight White Cis Male Oppressive Shitlord To express your enthusiasm regarding the movie?
Jack Crews Indeed.
Warner Bros actually fired Chuck Jones for working on this movie. He had an exclusive contract with them and he violated that contract. Warner Bros discovered it after they got the distribution rights to the film. Chuck Jones moved on to MGM after that
I remember this movie since I was a kid. I watch this animated movie on Disney channel back in 90’s. I love the animation and the characters of this movie. I know the story about. This story about Mewsette who lives in the Farm of Provence the south of France 🇫🇷 and why she want to go to Paris? To start a new life and be rich and wealthy. Her boyfriend Jean-Tom was in love with her and want to know why she want to go to Paris and be together. The evil Tuxedo Cat name Meowrice is a con artist who is plotting to sell Mewsette with cash for his boss name Henry Phtt (funny last name Lol) com artist always after your money by making false advertising and business to trick you and he trick Mewsette for making her start a new life to be the Belle of Paris and ship her to America to marry Mr. Phtt. Meowrice want to trade Mewsette with cash 💰 when she is ready. The message of this film is
1-Never go to Paris alone
2-Bring a friend or a love one with you
3-Never talk to a stranger (even he is a con artist)
Omg, I saw this as a kid as well on the Disney channel in the 90s. As for the movie, I liked a couple of the songs but wasn't blown away by the movie itself; but I kinda liked it.
I first thought it was gonna be Cats Don't Dance.
I think I like both The Aristocats and Gay Purr-ee both the same. On one hand, The Aristocats has the child actors and a more touching story. On the other hand, I like the cartoony animation in Gay Purr-ee and the train sequences help me think of cowboys. Speaking of children, because of how cute Robespierre is, I actually wish he had gotten a child actor instead of Red Buttons. Especially since I do not understand why an actor would call himself "Red Buttons" and not his REAL NAME. However, I do like how Judy Garland got into the voice cast; I actually prefer Mewsette over Dorothy. As for UPA, I actually have a bit of a liking to Gerald McBoing Boing. My only problem with Gay Purr-ee is that a few scenes are somewhat boring, but luckily there are also some other scenes that hold my attention well.
"What were you expecting? The Aristocats" No. I was expecting Felidae. XD
Looks like we found out where the crazy cat lady from the simpsons got her cats from
Yay Watership Downs next !!!!!! That's one of my favorites !Cant wait till that episode
I remember seeing this when I was 4 and damn was it probably one of the bigger things that kept me drawing a lot
5:07 Actually this animation reminds me of some of the Tom and Jerry cartoons.
i'm disappointed that the cartoon didn't actually feature cute gay cats...
It doesn't? Aww....
I wanted it to be cute gay cats so bad
Snapped! France guess we just have to make our own cute gay cat story
TheShockinglyEloquentDog woof I've done it before! I just wish this was a movie
Read Neko the kitty webcomic; the protagonist's son is a cute gay kitty, but he appears halfway through the archive.
I remember not being able to find a DVD of this. Thought it would be a little more well known when it has a big star like Judy Garland in it
Really? I found the DVD no problem on Amazon. I ordered it for my sister around 6 - 8yrs ago for Xmas.
@@alysiabernardo8900 it never got released on DVD in the UK. i got a copy now tho from ebay that works in different regions
6/10 - Story
6/10 - Animation
6/10 - Characters
6/10 - Songs
Final vervict 6/10
What is this? 6666? Quadruple? That will be more evil.
Lol
I remember watching this movie on Cartoon Network years and years ago!
Lewtoons and now you. AMINO!!!
I remember really liking this movie as a kid. I don't remember much, but I liked the main characters.
I just watched it and I found it really enjoyable. To make it better I would have fixed up some story points and strenthens the villains motivation. Seriously, aside from his motivation, Meowrice is wonderfully evil.
7/10
that freak out you have 5 min in, when you realise you've seen this film over a decade ago as a kid!
Can't wait to see what these; "Horrible creatures" have instore for you, Mat.....
this movie looks nice, someday watching and your channel is the best of animation its really good
i thought this was about gay cats df
Saltiest Pearl I didn't.
Decades ago the word gay didn't mean homosexual. It meant happy.
@pidge podge, same...
Sad when words get hijacked for political reasons.
Idazmi7 "Boy" used to mean "Male servant" in the middle ages. Common definitions change over time.
“A creature so foul and so cruel that no man yet has fought with it and lived ! Death awaits you all with nasty big pointy teeth.”
So, that means we'll get killer rabbits. ... Yay, finally, Watership Down!
“All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you..."
Ooohh noooooo!!!!! Watership Down!!!! I was so scared of the clips I saw that I never finished reading it!!!Oh, the Gay Purr-ee review was good too.
Do I have to be a man of Valor, and dare to go further without a doubt of my courage, to say that the movie that you are about to review is like facing death; Death to every innocence of children when they saw it when it first came out with it's sharp bloody images?
Watership Down! (Drama Sting)
"What an eccentric performance."
Thanks for the translation
I felt it was a style choice rather than cheap animation.
The songs and easily forgettable?! I'll have you know I still occasionally have the songs pop up and I saw this as a child in the nineties. I saw it again as an adult and loved it even more. 😁
i love this movie and hanna barberas alice in wonderland or whats a nice kid like you doin in a place like this
Yeah. UPA was a great animation studio. They just were after different ascetics than Disney.
@yelloweyeball I agree! The two are incomparable because the styles are just too different. I really like the experimental style in this movie and Frankie and Johnny Were Lovers, and I am in no way art smart. 😅
I remember watching this movie on cartoon network when I was a kid but I never knew what was the name at the time. Thanks to Animat, I finally remember it.
I have never even heard of this film until now. Maybe I should watch it. I did put it on my Netflix queue though? Anyone else never heard of it until this video?
Watership Down is next eh? I saw that film not to long ago via the Criterion Collection on Hulu Plus. I loved it, and Bright Eyes is now one of my favorite songs ever.
Nice review, though I liked the film a little more. I take it for your next review you were talking about _Watership Down_ ?
Ha! I knew that Animat would review this. I felt like Chuck Jones was this film's true director
It was directed by one of the animators that worked in Jones’ unit at Warner Bros, Abe Levitow
@@brockpifer9929 -and written by Chuck and Dorothy Jones.
Did you watch Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice?
Your April Fools joke was hilarious.
yea
finely
*Can we watch the Aristocats*
*My sister: We have the Aristocats at home😂😂😂😂*
Omg this is my childhood! Saw this cartoon many years ago :D
Watership down ... Neat!
I do admit this 1962 movie was a collaboration of many talents:a spectacular story by Looney Tunes animator,Chuck Jones, the animated output of UPA,the founding fathers of limited animation and the creators of Mr.Magoo, the songwriting team of Harold Arlen and EY Harburg, and legendary Hollywood actress,Judy Garland. and I do understand this movie really got Chuck Jones fired from Warner Bros. for breaking their contract with them,at least he was still lucky, since he went on to MGM to direct a new series of 36 Tom and Jerry cartoons, won a Acadamy Award in 1966 for a Oscar-winning cartoon(The Dot and The Line),and made a memorable holiday special in 1966,called How The Grinch Stole Christmas. I feel Meworice was the best character in the entire movie, the songs were fun and catchy, the European artist esque-style backgrounds were splendid, and the art style and designs were decent. At least this movie was both the swan song for Chuck Jones at his time at Warner Bros. due to his firing and UPA,which began to focus more on Mr. Magoo and became the distributor of Toho films. I understand it's a Aristocats ripoff, but at least, this movie is different from Aristocats and has a different premise and plot.
This actually came out eight years before the Aristocats. One could claim that the Aristocats ripped off this movie, but honestly the only similarity is that the two main cats have a similar color pattern. I don't know why so many people claim that this movie is a rip-off of The Aristocats because honestly, that is the only similarity I see.
@@cookingwithtabithaIt's like the Kimba/Lion King thing all over again
@sonicfanboy3375 haha You're right, I hadn't thought about that.
I did enjoy that tid bit Matt, thanks.
I saw this movie when I was really little. Though I only saw it once it really stuck with me. Making it onto a list of movies I'd search for on occasion to find out what the hell was that one day.
0:26 is that pan's girl friend ?
Thank you for this review, I'm so happy that you did this & I'm happy to the person who requested it, good on you. I have negative memories associated with this movie. My mom bought it for me on VHS when I was little. It was a movie she'd play to keep me entertained. Thing is, this is the first movie I can ever remember disliking & that was mainly due to the fact that it was so boring. I could never follow along to the story because I constantly zoned out so I could never remember what it was about. Now that I saw this review, I know why I found it so boring. I never was too big on romance. Anyways, I remember the day when my mom told my sister & I that we needed to donate stuff to Good Will to make some room & first thing I grabbed was that movie because I never wanted to see it again, seeing that cover go was my last time ever seeing anything related to Gay Purr-ee until today. Since I never crossed paths with it online, I figured it was forgotten.
UPA was one of the greatest studios that ever existed and limited animation is underrated. There's a big difference between the planned animation Hanna Barbera did and what UPA did creatively.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention (for those who don’t know or remember) Robert Goulet was the singing voice for Wheezy in “Toy Story 2” and Mikey from Disney’s “Recess”.
I KNEW IT WAS COMING! I seem to have a radar for Watership Down. It is my favourite movie of all time and my favourite book of all time. By the way, I've seen gorier and darker films.
tonight this thursday the aristocats
Watership Down is next! Awesome! :D
+Hewylewis Oh Boy! Nightmares!
+Hewylewis oh no! :O
+Hewylewis I was literally about to suggest Watership Down, good thing I didn't otherwise I'd have looked like an idiot.
+WeirdoTZero
Nightmare?
When i was a kid ,this movie didn't scare me at all and it wasn't scary!
***** Well apparently you're a minority, because this film is literally listed under "Nightmare Fuel" on Tv Tropes.
This movie reminds me of AristoCats but with just cats and no humans.
Am I the only one who thinks this should have a modern update...?
Watership Down, and nice Monty Python ref
Just when I got Brodyquest out of my head.
Wasn't after this movie the second time Chuck Jones was fired from Warner bros., if recall he was fired back at the 60s when Warners was ending their animation studio at the time, and went to work at Disney for a little while until he was rehired by Warners again.
i'm watching the aristocats tonight
3 youtubers I watch now actively advertise Cartoon Amino. I have no problem with that... XD
+Joseph Alarcon Animat, Cartoon Universe, and LewToons
Disneydx now has Beyblade Burst
0:22 Soooo... Can we conclude that you've finally watched Gravity Falls?
What is it with Disney & their “copycat” cat movies? (I mean Lookit Kimba the white lion???)
The next animated movie review has to be one of those movies from the late 20th century where they torture or even kill animals everyone loves.
(My 2 likely guesses are Felidae and Watership Down)
He'll review few more classic animated Movies
- Felix the Cat: the Movie(1988)
- Spongebob Squarepants the Movie (2004)
- Cat's Don't Dance (1997)
The aristocats before the aristocats. Also fun fact: Jaune means yellow in French, despite Jaune Tom’s orange fur
oh boy... paul frees cat
Still more visually interesting than Live Action Disney remakes.
Man, that Cartoon Amino sure sounds amazing. I think I might give it a trOh shit, it's Zone-Tan!
Sorry, what was I talking about?
