Always loved Hammer Films as a kid, and they’ve stood the test of time. Personal highlight a couple years ago was being able to stay a few nights at former Hammer HQ- now the Oakley Court Hotel. They still have posters of many of the movies filmed there in their hallways.
This movie was actually really good! For some reason I thought it would be hokey, but it's really interesting and well acted. It has all the same ingredients as other, worse vampire movies, but it's all played so well here. I didn't expect to be so thoroughly entertained the entire movie. And I got it for free on youtube, what a great time to be alive.

Weak writing in this movie though! The plot could have been moved along with more suspense and thrill with richer dialogue giving these actors something plot worthy good to say. Otherwise, I agree the production quality is high, camera, editing, lighting.
This 1963 film is quite interesting and enjoyable. The reference to motorcars as a new mode of transportation indicates the setting as around 1920 but the style of gown worn by ladies indicates (i.e.: sleeves and length) influence from about 40 years prior. I've just watched this film 5 times in the last couple weeks. The Shout Factory Blu-Ray has 2 different ratio aspects (1:85 and 1:65), plus, the bizarre 1966 TV version "Kiss Of Evil" where almost every reference to vsmpires was surgically removed from the film, with an entirely extraneous NEW sub-plot added. And all 3 versions have their own separate audio commentary tracks! The disc has only ONE real defect (as do ALL Shout Factory Blu-Rays)... if you hit "stop", it INSTANTLY goes back to the beginnng, before the menu, so you can't take long breaks in the middle without using the chapter breaks to find where you left off. (The company needs to be INUNDATED with complaints from buyers about this... as does Universal and Disney. To date, they're the only 3 outfits I've seen this "disc authoring" problem on.)
This aired on " Svenghoolie " last week . I find that he shows quite a few that can easily be found on UA-cam . Must have a very small acquisitions budget .
I love Brian Oulton. I first saw him in the Steptoe and Son episode the Piano. A great character actor whose name may not be well known but he was in many British tv and film productions.
Typical Hammer movie: lush vivid color, superb cinema photography, intense and incomparable music of James Bernard that heightens tension, superb attention to detail, and above all, true to life story based on the factual rather than the implausible old wives tales. For a period of time people pretty much stopped believing in such things vampires and ghouls that suck your life essence out, but then they started to believe again. After all, who doesn’t believe in them today? We only have to turn on the nightly news to see them in all their hideous and loathsome glory as they run amok dismantling and toppling and destroying all that they do not hold dear.
The "lush vivid color" is because they used 72mm film (the HD of its day) instead of the much cheaper 35mm film Hollywood typically used. Of course you need such lush vivid color to do a proper Vampire movie. Today's vampires only need nightly news visual quality to see all you need of their hideous and loathsome dull glory.
@@lostcat9lives322 I certainly did, Ollie. Talk about dumb!
Excellent to see these classics again, at 56 yrs old - I love watching these films. So much better than this modern rubbish ! Subscribed ....
One of my favorite movies. Thanks for posting.
I love the old Hammer horror films!
AMAZING CLARITY !! Thanks
I first saw this movie when I was six years old. It scared the piss out of me.
Oh geez these are the best ..we used to watch Hammer horror on Saturday afternoons
Interesting movie, strange ending... Still worth watching.
This aired on " Svenghoolie " last week . I find that he shows quite a few that can easily be found on UA-cam . Must have a very small acquisitions budget .
What a privilege. I was able to give the 4000th thumbs up.
My dad was a gravedigger
Cool!
Will always watch Hammer horror films. Thank you.
Another great James Bernard score.
A great Hammer Vampire movie, well done.
You could not be more precise, thank you for the truth.
You forgot hot chicks.
You mean like intolerance , treachery and racism ?

I certainly did, Ollie. Talk about dumb! But that’s because the only chick I’ve spent any time with in the past twenty years has been a cold-hearted gal from the frigid side of the street who refuses to get down to any hanky-panic with me. Not that I let that stop me. I just take her out of the freezer long enough for a quick thaw and when I’m done I put her back. Sometimes I have to shift her over to make room for the veggies and the Eskimo Pies.
The guy in the opening sequence said Domino a lot; musta been hungry.
Love the old Hammer House of Horror movies 👏
Superb film, fresh feeling and well cast, enjoyable story and satisfying conclusion. There's something wonderfully British about it too.
Wow🤗 you were able to aquire an "Hammer" film. Thank you💗lovin it💯
A Hammer film.
Love Hammer films. Thank you.
You'll be quite safe he says not knowing for sure. I would never let my wife sat alone in the countryside especially one I didn't know well. Comically British attitude u know..
