    Love these tips! Thank you! The game changing tip for my workflow was instead of using keyboard shortcuts of (B) for blade or (R) for range was to hold them down and then click. Once I click FCP goes back to my default selection tool. Hopefully that makes sense!

    Hi Dylan, just a note to add with the first tip, that only works if you have put the whole multicam clip into your project and cut it down into separate clips from there. If you have in'd and out'd different parts of your multicam clip in your browser then added those separate sections into your project, your settings inside your multicam clip don't carry accross to all the other clips, only those cut from the original in & out points.

    I'm at the point where I am actually considering hiring an editor. My videos are not talking head videos, and the editing is very important to the content of my Channel. I have edited everything myself so far, because I come from that world and actually love editing. But I need to give it up to focus on hopefully growing the Channel and business surrounding it. So my question for you all here is......what is a fair rate for a full time editor that can tell good stories, and also be a bit of a jack of all trades by doing some color and sound work (nothing crazy for color and sound)? Any input is appreciated.

    “Make sure you always apply your A roll into a compound clip or multicam clip before editing”. How? How do you take 30 separate A roll shots, each of which had 4 or 5 takes, with lots of B roll interspersed throughout, and create a compound or multicam clip? You opened up your multicam and it showed one continuous take. I have dozens of A roll clips

    • @MaskedMarble
      @MaskedMarble Рік тому

    For tip no 1, why not use an adjustment layer instead of multicam? Are there any advantages or disadvantages?

    • @NakovGoce
      @NakovGoce Рік тому +2

      Adjustment layer is different thing. If you use adjustment layer, again you will need to search thru timeline for the same clips (camera) and place that adjustment layer above them. With compound clip you are altering …. lets say the “raw” clip in basic level so wherever the same compound clip is used thru timeline will carry the same adjustments.

    • @KonnorGann
      @KonnorGann Рік тому

      Adjustment layers would take many more actions. Multicam adjustment only takes 1 action.

    • @NakovGoce
      @NakovGoce Рік тому

      @@KonnorGann Again…..you are debating about 2 different things with 2 different scenarios for usage.

    • @TheFinalCutBro
      @TheFinalCutBro  Рік тому

      Adjustment layers are great! You can use them both interchangeably. Except, you can also do audio effects within the multicam! Adjustment layers cannot be used in the multicam.
      Definitely just depends on your workflow for a given project!

      Easing in FCP doesn’t exist. It’s awful I know. One of my largest complaints for FCP.
      I use a plugin called AddMotion and it’s absolutely essential if you do any motion graphics!
      This video shows it off ua-cam.com/video/Hn3r0Th1Z1A/v-deo.html

  • @oldjebus6170
    @oldjebus6170 Рік тому

    Great video! One of my biggest time wasters in FCPX is with transitions between 1-2 compound clips. They “lock” the in and out points on the compound clip itself (even though the clip(s) inside the compound clip could be extended). So I have to break apart the clip, make the in and out longer than needed, make it a compound clip again and then trim the ends to apply a transition to it. Anyone aware of a fix for this? Would be nice if FCPX recognized that the clip’s length inside a compound clip so adding transitions wasn’t a pain.

    • @TheFinalCutBro
      @TheFinalCutBro  Рік тому +1

      Totally agree, this is super frustrating!
      I've just made it apart of my workflow to extend out the clips as long as possible before compound clipping them. Seems like an unnecessary step, but unfortunately that's just what we have to work with. Would love for Apple to add a new workflow for this!

      If you go into Final Cut Pro > Preferences > Playback - there is an option near the bottom to change the viewer background. You can change it to white or checkerboard!
      It would be nice if you could set custom colors, but those are the options given.

    Unfortunately to erase the even more massive data of analyzing - for optical flow e.g. - you still have to go into the package of the library. Or is there another way?

    • @TheFinalCutBro
      @TheFinalCutBro  Рік тому +1

      Deleting generated media will get rid of your optical flow data!

    • @seb-depp
      @seb-depp Рік тому

      @@TheFinalCutBro I beg to differ. I just tried it again: Put a 19 sec clip (243 MB) to 65 % and optical flow. It generated 16 GB of Analysis data. After rendering I got the option to erase the render data but in the package it's still there under "Osmo/Analysis Files/Optical Flow/..." and it still shows in the library under "Cache"...
      It did erase the render data but not the analysis...

    • @TheFinalCutBro
      @TheFinalCutBro  Рік тому +1

      @@seb-depp oh interesting! I might be totally wrong about that then. Thanks for digging in on that!
      I typically use FCPX Library Manager which totally cleans up all the generated files. But allows you to do it on a mass scale. And it clears out optical flow files as well (under generated media). So that’s where I must’ve made the mistake!

    why not use an adjustment layer rather then a compound clip ?

    • @TheFinalCutBro
      @TheFinalCutBro  Рік тому

      Adjustment layers don’t work with audio! So if you want to apply an audio effect (like a compressor) on your a-roll it’s much better to do it within a compound clip / multicam.
      But adjustment layers are great at many other things!
