Glad I found your channel. What a generous offer of the jumper with knitting instructions. Sometimes I find that even when a pattern is free, it may not be as wearable for many. Offering a free pattern with short rows and the foldable collar is so wonderful - I'm so so many knitters would appreciate it. Your jumper is beautiful.

So glad I found your podcasts. Your instructions are to the point, very well explained and not too long. I finally found the encouragement I needed to pick up my knitting needles and knit my (your) first sweater! I am more a visual learner and struggle deciphering some of the knitting instructions that come with the patterns. I then get discouraged and grind to a full stop 🫤

Your April cardigan is beautiful!! Especially with that buttonband. I just take notes on each of your patterns for my future knits!
Regarding how long you should make the feet of toe up socks: when the pattern calls for a short row heel, it's the same as for a cuff down sock. That's because a toe and a short row heel are more less the same length. So let's say you would normally knit 20 cm. (measured from the heel) before starting the toe, now you have to knit 20 cm. (measured from the toe cast on) before starting the heel. Hope this helps!

Watched this whilst working on my 5th pair of toe-up socks, your mention of the struggle with the sock pattern made me chuckle as I have the same issue with top-down socks and have been meaning to try them again :D My problem is always that I can't tell how long I can make the cuff with cuff-down... your issue with where to start the heel has become somewhat of second nature to me by now, but it did require a couple failed tries and re-knits of heels!

I like your color selections too. I love neutrals as well as well as strong vibrant colors, but I have a very different complexion than you do. Clearly, you know what looks great on you!!!
So thankful for your sweater pattern! I picked up knitting this year but have only been knitting socks (that was what I was initially the most interested in). I have been looking for a good first sweater project to start but was a little unsure about a few things so I believe the combination of written pattern and video tutorial will help me out a lot :)

I also did a double knitted button band for my April cardigan. I think 15 it’s a good number, because I only cast on 10 extra with a 3mm and it’s slightly too thin for how large the buttonholes are ( I knit them 4 rows long instead of 5).
very relatable on the addi needles and their blunt tips.. I bought addi 9 inch circulars and they're even WORSE to knit with 😭 I'm definitely team chiaogoo so I hope you enjoy yours!
I have the Addi small circular sock needles too, but I just hate knitting socks with any other needle setup than magic loop so I've never used them enough to notice how annoying they are! The Chiaogoos have been lovely though, perfect for magic loop socks.

Knitting for Olive imports all their mohair from South Africa (where i live) where it is dyed for them. A little bit of info, South Africa exports more than 70% of the worlds mohair. You have chosen the best mohair supporting Knitting for Olive and their colours are the best. I even import some of their colours back to South Africa because we do not get the colour variety here.
That's great info. Do you know of any South African companies that sell mohair yarn? It will be nice to buy from a South African business.

As well as the flk heel the Fleagle heel is easy to place and gives a good fit...if you don't mind veering from the pattern. From the pattern I guess would take some maths.....hence my affection for the flk and fleagle heel!

You knit beautifully! I'd really like to see some color.
Try the Turkish cast on for socks - I find it so much more intuitive than the magic cast on, none of this knitting through the back loop nonsense and no ‘ears’ on the corners. For the length of sock, have you tried the FLK heel? Even if you don’t like that style, the pattern has so much information in it to help you understand the toe up sock construction that it might help you work out where to start the gusset (avid sock knitter, owner of 52 weeks of socks and not one pattern knitted from it 🤦🏻♀️)
Thank you so much for the advice! I don't knit through the back loop with the magic cast on but the ends are certainly a bit loose. I have used FLK heels before on socks but I'm enjoying knitting the suggested heels in the patterns I'm using atm to try different techniques, but you're totally right that it would be way easier to figure out the length with a short row heel! I will check out the Turkish cast on :)

Does anyone know what the DROPS standard is for mohair? I didn't realise how unethical mohair is
Drops don’t seem to be very transparent about the environmental / ethical impact of their yarn. Fundamentally for it to be that much cheaper than quite literally every other mohair yarn on the market they must be cutting some corners in my opinion.
There are quite separate issues with their patterns and sales practices which I have heard bits and pieces about but don’t know a lot about in detail. Let me know if you do find anything else about their business practices because I have really struggled to find any information at all.
@@handmadebyflorence Yes thats what i figured and given other brands such as Knitting for olive makes a clear statement about their stance on wool and mohair I would assume DROPS would do so *if* they adhered to those ethical standards.
