Love the footage of the turns in the flats, one of the best examples I found on UA-cam.

Very good tip! I like to think of handlebars on a mountain bike for my hand position. You can not wave or drop hands behind you when holding
onto the bars. I totally agree that hands and arm positions are crucial but often not mentioned it ski video tips👍👍

Nice form. I've been skiing moguls since the early 80's and developed my style for those times with pole plants. Your form seems to minimize or eliminate them all together which is good too.. It will take some practice to make this transition. The carving of your skis seems to be very light on your feet if that makes sense. I've done that too and I seems, sometime I catch and edge. I'm 51 and feel lucky that I'm still having a great experience skiing moguls as I did when I was in my 20's. Due to better equipment and good physical health. Good vid.

As you surely know, ski pole weight is crucial in moguls and I hope you have had composite poles all along. It makes the work easier and thus a little bit faster.

Thanks a lot Patrick. You show us perfectly well (and slowly) how you do it. Never the less not easy to really do it even with your instructions, but gives a great idea how important the hands are and into what position they should remain. Really, really cool. Congrats to your achievments.

Hung around allot of bump skiers in Killington in the late 1980s, some well known names were often on Outer limits. but i never saw turns like that, they use to call swing turns like that but not at all same fluidity.. Are the new ski designs allowing more flow, i thought bump skis havent changed much. How long of ski are you using. Crazy nice technique. maybe do retro vid on some old 2000s. just noticed this is 11 yrs old lol still epic.

How are the knees after years of doing this? Love those turns on the flats. The spray coming up from the bumps is pretty mental.

    Great video clip!!
Could you explain how you are able to turn soooo quick with what appears to be NO flexion extension????
Are you weighting heavily forward on your shins so the backs can be steered around OR are you using your hips to turn the skis OR are you sliding your heels out on each turn OR are you just rolling your knees OR a combination of lots of things
Are you building speed as you practice these incredibly quick turns????!
I can’t quite understand how you are turning them without flexion extension?????
    Thank you!!!

Notice his turns here are essentially edgeless. He is not using the camber (and thus rebound energy) to turn. They are muscle turns, but relaxed, not tensed all the time, thus a rhythm. Shorter, light skis that are fairly narrow (less than 88 max) help.

I’ve been working on tightening up my pole plants in the past few years. One thing I haven’t quite figured out is the proper pole length to use... over the past 10 to 15years it seems I preferred to have shorter poles.... only because I lowered my stance for better absorption of the bumps and the longer poles seemed to throw my hands more. Now when I watch this video it looks like his arms and hands are much higher in his stance than mine... any thoughts?

Its amazing how only the french team got away with having slightly messy hands while being top tier for so long, mostly because of edgar's raw power which helped him compensate so well. Now everyone uses the pistol grip and trigger plant but its a funny bit of history, the day of the plant and turn-away pole plant
