Here in the U.S. you have to get fast food. There is not usually someone just selling something simple like that. It’s much more healthy.
Once you travel in Asia and I really mean pretty much anywhere in the vastness that is Asia, you become hooked for life! A diaspora of people. Incredible and at times mind boggling street foods. Fried Tarantula anyone? How about freshly skinned snake, or raw horse meat or the hump of a bactrian camel? Often insanely cheap prices, except Japan,Singapore and South Korea. Sublimely beautiful ancient architecture, incredible variety of scenery and climates varied cultures, history, languages and the cradle of all the major religions. Bustling mega cities juxtaposed with simple village lives. A multitude of gorgeous beaches, delicious tropical climates to the extremes of Himalayan winters and deserts to jungles. I've travelled through 25 Asian countries, some multiple times and am still drawn to explore much, much more.
Out in the countryside you can find people selling stuff in a similar way sometimes, and in major cities you can find healthier food, but true, the US is mainly suburbs, and in most suburban areas it's hard to find simple/healthy food.
I am from India, staying quite close to the Indo China border in Uttarakhand and I just love her videos of China. I always wondered what goes beyond the border, beyond the himalayas in China and looking at these videos I get a glimpse of that. Love your videos, love this Chinese girl's spirit of travelling.
my parents often say we should go to visit china now before it gets too expensive to go. i hope you get to glimpse china for yourself one day! so amazing that you live so close just by the border, but the border is a natural border of huge himalayan mountains! how cool is that
Thank you very much for this. I'm Brazilian and study China since I was 13 years old (66 now). I hope I could go on a long trip in 2025/2026 throughout China. I'm sure I would need a very good guide and structured planning! Thank you again for your outstanding work in showing China.
One of my biggest regret while we were living in China for 5 years was not being adventurous enough to visit the smaller cities… ive always imagined smaller towns to be more culturally interesting and people friendlier. Thanks for your videos, now im yearning to go back someday. ☺️ we missed our life there back there 9 years ago.
I lived in China for ten years and I loved randomly visiting obscure places in the country away from the usual tourist traps. However, on the downside, even though many of the places I visited were beautiful and the people fantastic they were often very poor.
I think it's like that in most countries. The further you get from city centers and more globalized people you get a real taste for what the place and people are actually like. I think even in the USA this applies.
I’m from Ireland and have been in the big cities quite a few times. But never to the countryside. I really enjoyed your videos and your style of commentary. 👏👏🇮🇪💚🇨🇳
I'm so thrilled you're travelling in my mom's province, Yunnan is not that famous among foreign tourists but is totally worth it. This place will forever hold a special place in my heart ❤🥹
Great video, thanks for showing a view of rural China that's so unknown here in the West. Also I love how you show how ordinary day-to-day life is in China, it shows that people are basically the same all over the planet 👍
@@earlysda What I meant is that most people are just living their lives, working hard, caring for their children and try to make a living. How they do that maybe different and what they believe maybe different, but at the core, we are basically doing the same thing all over the world.
@@StudioHoekhuis Ivo, have you watched OUR videos where they show how they are trying to stop the horrific child sacrifices and other things that I cannot mention? Yes. China is about the size of the whole Europe, and has a bigger population than Europeans. If the Qin Empirer didn't unite China about 2000 years ago , the nowadays China may consists of a few countries.
This is true anywhere you go. Even within one city, like San Diego, California, where I live, there are so many different ways people are. One thing is true anywhere you go though: the humanity in people is the same. 🙂
I have been in China for over 10 years and never knew it existed. Next time I am in Yunnan province I will try to visit thanks to you. Always enjoy your choice of music.🌹
China 🇨🇳 it’s amazing ! Beautiful country and friendly people. Every time I come across to talk with Chinese people always a very friendly conversation they are very open. 😊
Greetings from the United States. I recently found one of your videos on my feed, and this one today. As you were walking through the streets of Yanjin, talking to people, it confirmed thoughts I have had for many of my 59 years...that no matter the country, or the politics of that country's leaders, regular people are all the same. We want to live our lives with our family and friends. Thank you for sharing your videos with the world.
Hi, Iam from Nagaland (Northeast INDIA 🇮🇳) I have been to to China once and it’s a beautiful place, stayed in Shanghai , wished I could visit more often, hopefully our China-India relationship gets better soon so that people can travel more frequently.. love your video .
I am a city person.l travelled to many countries in my younger days as back packer . Yes ! A very different landscape development. Love from Malaysia.❤
It has improved with some infrastructure. It’s already busting in some parts of the town, so I can’t imagine how busy it will get if the high speed rail and other connections becomes more accessible.
I really enjoyed this video my friend . The mountain houses by the river look like they could be flooded by the rise of the water level during a storm . The streets are full of people living their lives and the children seem so interested in you making your video . The people also seem to be very kind and willing to help make the visit to Yanjin a very pleasant time and a wonderful stay . The streets are also filled with hard working people selling fresh food and all the things needed by the people to enjoy live there in Yanjin . Please keep posting these fine videos of China my dear friend .
Thank You, The architecture is certainly unique, quite populated, drone video is fantastic. Your mingling with the local residents makes your video realistic.😀
Love your videos Yan. As an Australian that simply loves China you simply make me want to return over and over again to explore those out of the way places. Your videos are professional, it reflects the amount of time and effort that you put into them. You are a smart and humanly warm personality which adds to the feel and style of the videos. Keep on bringing us wonderful China. 加油.
Hello from Texas! Thank you for making videos like this… I’m living the typical 40 hour a week American life with little ability to travel abroad at this time due to work, family and having young children. Although I’m well traveled within the US I’ve only been a few other places around the world besides the normal tourist traps. Videos like this help me see other places I’d normally never know anything about so thanks for sharing!
WoWWW!!! One of my favorite cities of China you showcased. Its nice to live there if your simple and not obsessed of poshy cities with its fancy conveniences. 😍😎😍
The river is so clean, I couldn't even find a single plastic or paper near the bed, that is really amazing, it really shows how much people care about the surrounding environment.
As an aspiring documentary filmmaker and world traveler, i feel so inspired by this video, it is the first one i have seen of yours. Your format is so unique and welcoming and so informative. Beautiful choice of music, wonderful editing and camera work. Fantastic content, thank you for making this!
Just wanted to let you know that we have been enjoying your Unseen China videos and to thank you. Because we watch it on our tv in the kitchen, it is difficult to give you a thumbs up each time.
As always you have educational videos of China, which I find to be interesting. I find it sad for the average westerner to travel because of maybe political climate and Covid. It is hard enough for me being in my 60's to travel. I find you very cordial in the way you speak and respectful about these areas you film with the people. Living in Australia is almost straight below china a bit yet hard for me to see these places so you doing these videos helps me. thank you.
Wow, what wonderful coverage of beautiful China. You’ve expertly explained China’s phenomenal growth & shown it’s timeless culture. Looking forward to many more please🙏🏼 .. From a Londoner who has worked & visited China, with many Chinese colleagues & friends over many years 🇬🇧
I am glad that you included the transportation part of the journey in your video. To me, that's part of the fun. In my opinion, China probably has the best public transport system in the world. You can get to almost anywhere in China with public transport. Some of them probably illegal, but it gets you to where you want to go. Keep up the good work.
The place is so spick and span and the river is so so clean.. there is no rubbish floating or flowing around. Very few places in the world where you can find no rubbish lying around. Well done Chinese people.
I was lucky to have spent four years in Qingdao, and visited Yunnan. You capture the spirit of the people in a way a foreigner like me only wishes to. We need a genuine channel like this to bring the beauty of China to the rest of us. Thanks!
Thanks for bringing us another stunning video. I see the human spirit in overcoming the odds of nature. Not sure whether I can find such cities in other parts of the world. I really like your child like smile and positive attitude. As always, kind and friendly people.
I have just discovered your channel and honnestly this is the best travelogue video I have seen since forever. You have just nailed it! Please don't become like other travel youtubers with their flashy overproduction and pretentiousness. I really love your down-to-earth approach and more naturalism.
The streets are so clean… being from india, I might relate the scenery being similar that of himachal or shivalik ranges (except infrastructure,i have never seen so tall buildings in the mountains) but I appreciate how clean and neat the streets are. Not a single spec of plastic. That would never be possible in India.
It is beautiful and there is so much history here. Where I live in British Columbia, Canada the cities are so much younger. The beauty and feeling of any building 1000 years old impresses me very much. Thank you for sharing.
my new fav channel! love the way you just "go-for-it" with these adventures!! the drone shots are wicked & your so good with people; the music selection really fits the mood too!!
Keep doing what you do and you will be a great success. I'd like to thank you for visiting and filming all the place I will never visit - You gift me with a wider perspective of China and the world. And that must be a good thing!
Humans, when not trying to find ways to hurt each other, and instead focused on creating and innovation, continue to amaze me - like build a town on the side of a mountain perched over a giant river. Amazing
As a foreigner and a fluent chinese speaker i missed my old life as a student in china. Nowadays i go to china very frequently for work but onlu to major cities. i really missed going to smaller cities. Always had problems with understanding local people and not surprised sometimes you had the same issue as well hahah. Lovely video thanks a lot
The more videos I see about "hidden" China (rural areas, cities that aren't tourist traps, places that are off the beaten path) the more China reminds me of Appalachia. Maybe its just because I live in Appalachia but really these little mom and pop shops, people living precariously on the mountainside over a river, a nice lady giving away food when she doesn't actually get business, the openness and friendliness of people, the pride of the local history, the attitude about "eh natural disasters happen you just get used to it", even the look of the place all reminds me of where I live. Its so funny seeing such similarities between regions and people on opposite sides of the world.
Like West Virginia right, people would say oh, man from the mountains. when it come to the US,people always come up with NY,LA balabala, but these areas are the real places for the majorites
Oh definitely😂it's just people living their lives, nothing different between countries...if u think this way. It's just people did what they could to survive the earth's different environment😢
It's funny you mention that--I'm from Malaysia and I watched a few videos about Appalachia and many parts of it reminded me a lot of rural Malaysia! I think the world has a lot more similarities than differences
@@TooLittleInfo That's fantastic! Malaysia seems like a lovely place as well. Hopefully one day I'll get to visit these places I've been watching videos about and experience their culture for myself.
I live in West Virginia and was thinking the same thing. This city reminds me of a much larger Welch, WV or a Charleston, WV if it was smashed more against the mountains.
American Christian here. Thank you so much for showing us China. I wish I was still young and not sick. I would love to visit those out of way places, especially this city. I'm thankful for my life, so don't think that I am complaining. I'm happy you make it possible to see China. Thank you
This is your best video. Narration, along with the subtitle, kept me engaged and informed. The filmography was pro level and could easily be from any travel channel. You are personable, and your interaction with everyone you meet makes me feel like a foreign friend right there, tagging along. As a foodie, I want to eat everything. You said that you don't have good enough English to describe the food in China, yet every food you have shown us is perfectly described. As a tourist, this felt like a true adventure and made me want to add this city to my chinese itinerary. Great job. 💞
I really enjoyed your video! As an American, I am wanting to learn more about China and its geography, and real videos from Chinese residents like yourself are so much better than the ones produced by foreigners, which often seem faked or staged. I appreciate the authenticity!
Wow, this series is really showing me a whole new China. As an American I only get exposed to the culture and people of the big cities in China. Apparently, as it is here, people are more polite and welcoming in smaller cities. This is really eye opening and changes my mind about visiting.
It's great that you communicate with the locals and get a real sense of what a place is like. I've been seeing videos of Yanjin the past few months, but never with this much local insight :)
For me, as a european, it is so interesting to see China filmed by a native blogger!...I probably never make it to China and it is very difficult for me to make a picture of this huge and obviously beautiful country. So thanks for showing us arround!
Even from the first view, i fell in love in this place. Close to nature, not too modern and not too cosmopolitan like. Yet still not too rural and a great place to visit. I’m sensing some oldies and nostalgic vibes just from watching this video. I’m gonna go listen to some Ghibli studio music right after this. The feelings damn.
Wow, such an interesting place! Thank you for posting this. I love seeing you interact with people. Everyone seems so normal, just like they used to be in the Russian province. Looking from Russia it's great to see that somewhere normal life still goes on! The kids were supercute!
@@ekaterinasergeyeva453 Wow, I see, thank you for sharing. Arrested over such a small thing, and reported by a stranger! It sounds stressful. Sad how quickly things changed, or maybe it was always there. Stay safe!
As Chinese people see few foreigners, they could also be more shy or suspicious of them. I think the Chinese, in general, are friendly and hospitable because they are happy. They live in harmony and do not need to compete day and night for mere survival, so they do not tend to see others as someone who can take something away from them, but rather someone who can show them something new and different.
What an incredible video! I loved the format, the way you explore the city, engaged with the locals, as well as getting an insight into how life is like in these remote regions. I would love to travel to places like these myself, but I find it so incredibly hard and stressful when you can't communicate. However, videos like these aren't just travel videos, they are so much more, they are windows into a completely different world than our own, which most people can't/won't travel to. They are snippets of history, with beautiful stories and photo. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole video, subscribed and I know I will get excited whenever you post anything new! A massive thank you for your hard work from Sweden. 😊
the fact that China is a huge as a country and not as many things are shared through internet as other part of the world makes me want to visit there to have extreme journey like you do...
It's not that it's not shared, China is always portrayed in a negative way by Western media who tends to nitpick negative topics about China like the US does. It's all government propaganda and I'm sure China does the same to the US too.
Thank you for delivering such an awesome video. I lived in Beijing for a couple of years during the 90's, but I still love the people, culture and language, China Rules.
I have no plans to visit China anytime soon but I absolutely love seeing all these hidden gems. It has always seemed like such a unique and beautiful landscape and it’s so neat seeing all the differences. I also love listening to them because your voice is so peaceful 🥰
i watched an old documentary 20 years ago about Hunan(Yunan) when goods are transported via steel cable across a ravaging water current . some hogs , small cattle drowned . nice documentary . for your info UA-cam this is the best documentary i have viewed so far .
This is one of the most obscure destinations a person could go to. Very interesting place that many people will never see in person. Thank you for sharing that part of the world in Yanjin, Yunnan.
Yan, i love all the food you picked. Especially the steam buns, rice cake with herbs, and the leaves wrapped sticky rice food(?). The kids are curious and confident looking, and everybody just seems so relaxed in this place. Lovely!
Wanna hear something curious? I'm from Mexico, born and raised and this reminds me of some parts of Mexico SO SO MUCH. It's amazing, all the food on the streets, we also sell potatoes and corn like that. The little Tofu place looks like any modest "Loncheria" in Mexico. I love it
@@noahmcdarby5417 well... yes. but also there's a culture that comes with poverty and being taken advantage of by the rich. humans in poverty tend to react the same way and band together in the same way. It's interesting to see that across the globe we can see ourselves and our homes reflected even if we've been exploited and abused by the rich or our government, there's still life and hope and love at the basic core of humans that won't go away. human greed is the same across cultures but also human resilience

I always wondered what goes beyond the border, beyond the himalayas in China and looking at these videos I get a glimpse of that. Love your videos, love this Chinese girl's spirit of travelling.
my parents often say we should go to visit china now before it gets too expensive to go. i hope you get to glimpse china for yourself one day! so amazing that you live so close just by the border, but the border is a natural border of huge himalayan mountains! how cool is that
I want to visit all these places, but what prevents me is the lack of means Thank you for bringing this to us . 💓💓💓
Thank you very much for this. I'm Brazilian and study China since I was 13 years old (66 now). I hope I could go on a long trip in 2025/2026 throughout China. I'm sure I would need a very good guide and structured planning! Thank you again for your outstanding work in showing China.
Welcome to Dali😁
So admire you for your learning Chinese for more than half century!
Come back soon.
I wanna go to Liangshan Marsh, even if it's a mockup and a tourist trap. :P
The China of 9 years ago is not the China of today. I'd recommend you wait until the CCP has been deposed, before going back.
We have seen Yanjin through several travel vlogs but this is the first time we got a street level visit. The baked potato and tofu looks delicious.
I'm so thrilled you're travelling in my mom's province, Yunnan is not that famous among foreign tourists but is totally worth it. This place will forever hold a special place in my heart ❤🥹
Shhh I want to gatekeep it 🤫
我好想要去云南旅游,但是太远了哈哈哈。 大理和丽江都看起来很好看。我还没有去过中国但是我喜欢学习中文

Great video, thanks for showing a view of rural China that's so unknown here in the West. Also I love how you show how ordinary day-to-day life is in China, it shows that people are basically the same all over the planet 👍
Ivo, the more you travel, the more you realize people are not basically the same.
There are literally millions of kids every year being sold by their parents, and the vast majority of these are from several African and Asian countries.
As a Chinese I love watching these videos too. I want to travel all over China.
@@earlysda i have to agree with you on this one, in Amarika, they hate anyone who is different, never mind hate, they go all the way out to destroy any nation who refused to live like Amarika.
This really shows how big and diverse China is. It's more like a continent of different nations than just one country. 💖👍

I love the tempo of this video. No rush. Every frame is full of joy. Thank you for your work
I have been in China for over 10 years and never knew it existed. Next time I am in Yunnan province I will try to visit thanks to you. Always enjoy your choice of music.🌹
Amazing. I just stayed in Beijing for 4 years.
" Not many are aware - there are 687 cities in China " 🤔
China 🇨🇳 it’s amazing ! Beautiful country and friendly people. Every time I come across to talk with Chinese people always a very friendly conversation they are very open. 😊
Greetings from the United States. I recently found one of your videos on my feed, and this one today. As you were walking through the streets of Yanjin, talking to people, it confirmed thoughts I have had for many of my 59 years...that no matter the country, or the politics of that country's leaders, regular people are all the same. We want to live our lives with our family and friends. Thank you for sharing your videos with the world.
Thank you :)
Hi, Iam from Nagaland (Northeast INDIA 🇮🇳) I have been to to China once and it’s a beautiful place, stayed in Shanghai , wished I could visit more often, hopefully our China-India relationship gets better soon so that people can travel more frequently.. love your video .
感谢祖先在1000年前亲切地接待了唐玄奘。
I am a city person.l travelled to many countries in my younger days as back packer . Yes ! A very different landscape development. Love from Malaysia.❤
Even though you say it's remote and less developed. The city is so bustling and lively with people, it's incredible.
It has improved with some infrastructure. It’s already busting in some parts of the town, so I can’t imagine how busy it will get if the high speed rail and other connections becomes more accessible.
It's so wonderful to see nice people are everywhere to be found on our planet. Thank you for your video's. I hope your channel goes viral.

Thank you taking us here, Incredible city, beautiful, hectic and peaceful at the same time. 🙏🏼
China continues to amaze me! Never thought there’s are small cities like this…most interesting!
Hi. It's a village
这个作者的视频中最吸引人的是那些自然纯朴的人们,他们在忙碌的生活,认真过好自己的每一天,努力让自己的人生往更好的方向走。
The school kids are so adorable! I hope this city will eventually enjoy the China’s development and the people will have more comfort.
Yan, thank you so much for taking us to see unique places, unique food etc.
Wish you find all the joy in doing these video. God bless.
I'm a Korean who lives in Taiwan. 你的視頻很有趣也很好看。謝謝英文說明,我覺得Yanjin蠻特別的城市。
In the video, you can see a boat floating past below the bridge - there is a pole with a net at the end to fish out any rubbish.
Living in Australia is almost straight below china a bit yet hard for me to see these places so you doing these videos helps me. thank you.
What a very dramatic setting for a city. It's like something out of a fantasy film.
Wow, what wonderful coverage of beautiful China. You’ve expertly explained China’s phenomenal growth & shown it’s timeless culture. Looking forward to many more please🙏🏼 .. From a Londoner who has worked & visited China, with many Chinese colleagues & friends over many years 🇬🇧
Thanks a lot!
I am glad that you included the transportation part of the journey in your video. To me, that's part of the fun. In my opinion, China probably has the best public transport system in the world. You can get to almost anywhere in China with public transport. Some of them probably illegal, but it gets you to where you want to go. Keep up the good work.
Yes, very good transportation in China.
Exactly,and it's safe.

I've been fascinated with this city for years, ever since I saw pictures of it. And I have always wondered what it would really be like. Thank you!
Wow - your channel is really bringing back so many memories of wandering all over tiny interesting places around China. I miss my single days.
I always wanted to see around China, especially the least visited cities and villages. So thank you!
Yan's channel will reach millions, she is really down to earth and making you feel as being actually travelling with her. Excellent work!
It is beautiful and there is so much history here. Where I live in British Columbia, Canada the cities are so much younger. The beauty and feeling of any building 1000 years old impresses me very much. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for enlightening me on this part of China. It is incredibly beautiful. Cheers from Australia. Great video.
my new fav channel! love the way you just "go-for-it" with these adventures!! the drone shots are wicked & your so good with people; the music selection really fits the mood too!!
Keep doing what you do and you will be a great success.
I'd like to thank you for visiting and filming all the place I will never visit - You gift me with a wider perspective of China and the world.
And that must be a good thing!
哇哦!I've seen pictures of Yanjin before but seeing it in this video is incredible!
Great video as always!
Thank you so much for the wonderful video. It is like myself traveling in the interesting old city
You are the best tour guide ever. I love how you interact with all of the local people and show so many small details of local life and culture.
Fascinating video. Thank you for bringing us to an area in China which is so less travelled.
as an engineer, i have my respect to the people who built this place.

There is actually a word it.... Poverty
