God is for worship, as basically God is all encompassing, anything in life one can go to it, while private temple is a place to remember where your family came from and has been, perhaps to expect where it will be in the future. One goes there once a year. In a crisis, it is mostly to mobilize everyone to work for the common goal. The word, "worshipping" was used by the missionaries who didn't have the concept of any relationship with their ancestors formally in a temple. Anyway, the better translation should be "respect", instead of "worship". A private temple is for paying respect to ancestors.
The whole city looks fantastically planned and laid out. And so clean compared to British cities. The streets in the UK are literally covered in chewing gum, cigarette butts and weeds.

They are just normal people living their lives like anywhere else (they arguably live better than most!) This is truly educational and much needed. Yunnan and Sichuan are two of my personal favourite provinces in China.

Lukas gdp doesn’t equal to the quality of life. There are other small Asian countries that have high gdps but they have poor infrastructure, no good education system, health care etc. in China I can say with confidence that most people have a house to live, have no problem getting around the country due to the great metro systems, can afford schools and hospital bills easily. Streets are clean. Parks are beautiful and everywhere. You don’t need to live in Beverly Hills to enjoy all the amenities the city offers. if you think gdp is the benchmark for quality of life, ancient China has very high gdp. But do you want to live in the past?
As a native of Yunnan who has wandered in the US for 20 years, I was shocked about life change in a small city like this in Yunnan. Very different from what I remembered. Thanks for your camera and the brain behind it. The change in big cities in China is expected. But the improvement in living quality in the countryside is unexpectedly fascinating. P.S. The street art is awesome, better than some of these in Chicago.

It seems like you just chose the destination randomly then bought a train ticket to go there to see what does that place really like, that's super cool. A lot of places means nothing to a lot of people, especially the tiny lesser-known cities. But these places means a lot to you, to us audience as well, it's so nice to see how is their life like in tiny cities instead the fancy people in cities like Beijing or Shanghai. Yes, I found it on a list of high speed train stations close to Chengdu and got a ticket without knowing really anything about it , never heard of the place before . I like surprises 😄

Dude the amount of people out interacting at night and the activities they are doing is just mind blowing. Here in Canada most people just stay inside or at most go out to restaurants, but that is about it.
Well, you're describing the atmosphere in small cities, but Canada also has a few large cities with a more vibrant lifestyle and night life. I presume that you're comparing with medium sized cities (which is true, most medium sized cities in Canada are quiet) but it is definitely different in Montreal. I can't speak for Toronto because I have not been there since maybe 6-7 years and every time it was for a private political event and I only stayed 1 or 2 nights. However I lived in downtown Montreal for 9 years and it is very dynamic in every hour or the day/night. The pandemic has slowed things down a little bit but this summer was almost normal (except for tourism). People were back outside gathering in parks and in the streets and they are very social. I remember even in the middle of the pandemic in January/February there were random people gathering in a park, a local DJ was coming with his sound system and they were dancing on a frozen lake (because bars were closed). I was surprised to see the police not giving a fuck about it while it was clearly in violation of the Quebec government's decree.

As for the social credit system, again culture matters and most Chinese would a great with sorts of consequences for bad behavior. China is not the West, different society, different values, different culture. Actually there are a lot of obscure cities or towns even Chinese people have never heard of in high speed railway routes. Some of them are the least developed ones. The government built stations there to help boost local economy and alleviate poverty.

I've never heard of Weixin either! I like the impromptu walks and paths you took, with no specific destination and filming all the quirky things along the way and the people as they go about their daily lives. So many places to explore in China, and looking forward to more of your adventures!

I had visited WeiXin once about 10 years ago, not to the city though, to a close by village having a big power plant planned. Honestly I didn't even know before watching your video that WenXin is this big. I always assumed it was a tiny county city of maybe 50,000 population. I still have strong memory from that trip the eggs and pork from their countryside are the most tasteful ones I ever have. 100 times better than what we normally get in city grocery stores, and even better than the "organic" or "grass-fed" ones. It's been over 10 years, not sure if still the case. You can try going to more remote area to try.

@@johndrumpf9888 In Europa it is relatively safe to go out at night, but not every where. In the USA I will be really careful going out for a walk at night and definitely avoid come anywhere close to certain blocks. In China, I feel safe to go out any time and anywhere.
@@netterdrachen1687 The USA is a big country, parts of the US have a murder/violence/crime rate lower than Europe. Also, not everywhere in China is safe (I used to live in China), there's a lot of property crime in Shenzhen for example. Anywhere where the violent crime rate is ~1 in 100,000 is fairly safe. For sure, China has less murder and assault than the US, but Americans are not staying indoors at night because they're afraid to go out, that's an absurd claim.

Life is good. I really like this "tiny" city. Entire Springfield MO is half of the population of this "tiny" city. It is nice to see people who are so friendly to American.
I believe it is called Beautiful Countryside Movement. It’s been going on for so some years. Gov gives subsidies to renovate dilapidated old houses, and facilities, parks, etc for a village to make it more beautiful and comfortable
I've been Yunnan once before, such a beautiful place and I love it. Some people seem rude in the video. However, they are not malicious, but just ordinary citizens of small places who are curious and friendly.

Yunnan is my favourite province in China. One of my favorite days was riding an e-bike around Lake Erhai, by Dali. Not an apartment building in site, just traditional architecture, people in their traditional clothes, going about village life, beautiful mountains surrounding the majestic lake. This is the China I came for, not the light shows of Lujiazui or Chongqing.
Thanks Katherine for uploading this video to enjoy .... and also feel jealous of the pleasant and simply lives of a small town. I have been to only 3 towns in Yunnan, Kunming, Lijiang and Dali. If my age and health allow me, I would be on another trip over there once the pandemic is over.

When you think of China you always image over crowded city's, pollution and massive amounts of manufacturing going on but they have some of the most beautiful and unique wilderness areas in the world. I'd love to go there one day.

Love your video of the China we don't get to see from MSM here in the US. Your Mandarin is very good. These rural areas off the beaten path remind me of my hometown of 猴屿 village in 福州. There's a similar Buddhist temple and many natural caverns in the mountain in my hometown and there a huge Christian church on the mountain nearby as well.. Haven't been back since I left as a child in the late 80s. I'm sure it has been totally transformed. Very nostalgic to see how my hometown have transformed into. Keep it up. Hope to see a a vlog of my hometown someday.

Yes, it so sad ... I couldn't play on the streets or parks in the west because it was too dangerous, even if i lived in one of the wealthiest part of the capital. Is so heart warming to see that places like this still exists
Dude the amount of people out interacting at night and the activities they are doing is just mind blowing. Here in Canada most people just stay inside or at most go out to restaurants, but that is about it.

Well, you're describing the atmosphere in small cities, but Canada also has a few large cities with a more vibrant lifestyle and night life. I presume that you're comparing with medium sized cities (which is true, most medium sized cities in Canada are quiet) but it is definitely different in Montreal. I can't speak for Toronto because I have not been there since maybe 6-7 years and every time it was for a private political event and I only stayed 1 or 2 nights. However I lived in downtown Montreal for 9 years and it is very dynamic in every hour or the day/night. The pandemic has slowed things down a little bit but this summer was almost normal (except for tourism). People were back outside gathering in parks and in the streets and they are very social. I remember even in the middle of the pandemic in January/February there were random people gathering in a park, a local DJ was coming with his sound system and they were dancing on a frozen lake (because bars were closed). I was surprised to see the police not giving a fuck about it while it was clearly in violation of the Quebec government's decree.

That is the case all over Asia. The economy is hardly facing a Slowdown compared to the rest of the world, and that's in taking consideration aggressive lockdown measures for covid. As for the social credit system, again culture matters and most Chinese would a great with sorts of consequences for bad behavior. China is not the West, different society, different values, different culture. What they have is many hard-working well-educated people, lots of savings, a disciplined and organized governing system focused on development, and internal Unity that suppresses populist self-aggrandizement. Anyone with a brain can see that China has the better future.

Actually there are a lot of obscure cities or towns even Chinese people have never heard of in high speed railway routes. Some of them are the least developed ones. The government built stations there to help boost local economy and alleviate poverty.
I'm still stuck in a city where we're still in lockdown mode. I envy you. The way you could travel around to so many different beautiful places freely, it makes me very very jealous.

I had visited WeiXin once about 10 years ago, not to the city though, to a close by village having a big power plant planned. Honestly I didn't even know before watching your video that WenXin is this big. I always assumed it was a tiny county city of maybe 50,000 population.
I still have strong memory from that trip the eggs and pork from their countryside are the most tasteful ones I ever have. 100 times better than what we normally get in city grocery stores, and even better than the "organic" or "grass-fed" ones. It's been over 10 years, not sure if still the case. You can try going to more remote area to try.
I'd interested in tasting those eggs and pork once in my life.

They do the same thing to cover some of the public facilities in some of the American cities too. What I like China is that it is very safe place to live and travel only few countries in the world can match.

@@johndrumpf9888 In Europa it is relatively safe to go out at night, but not every where. In the USA I will be really careful going out for a walk at night and definitely avoid come anywhere close to certain blocks. In China, I feel safe to go out any time and anywhere.

Also, not everywhere in China is safe (I used to live in China), there's a lot of property crime in Shenzhen for example.
Anywhere where the violent crime rate is ~1 in 100,000 is fairly safe. For sure, China has less murder and assault than the US, but Americans are not staying indoors at night because they're afraid to go out, that's an absurd claim.

I've been Yunnan once before, such a beautiful place and I love it. Some people seem rude in the video. However, they are not malicious, but just ordinary citizens of small places who are curious and friendly.

Yunnan is my favourite province in China. One of my favorite days was riding an e-bike around Lake Erhai, by Dali. Not an apartment building in site, just traditional architecture, people in their traditional clothes, going about village life, beautiful mountains surrounding the majestic lake. This is the China I came for, not the light shows of Lujiazui or Chongqing.
Thanks Katherine for uploading this video to enjoy .... and also feel jealous of the pleasant and simply lives of a small town. I have been to only 3 towns in Yunnan, Kunming, Lijiang and Dali. If my age and health allow me, I would be on another trip over there once the pandemic is over.

Love your video of the China we don't get to see from MSM here in the US. Your Mandarin is very good. These rural areas off the beaten path remind me of my hometown of 猴屿 village in 福州. There's a similar Buddhist temple and many natural caverns in the mountain in my hometown and there a huge Christian church on the mountain nearby as well.. Haven't been back since I left as a child in the late 80s. I'm sure it has been totally transformed. Very nostalgic to see how my hometown have transformed into. Keep it up. Hope to see a a vlog of my hometown someday.
