    PART 4: Accessories & their Functions @03:09

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Oven Toaster Griller (OTG) are generally used to prepare dishes like pizzas, tikkas, kebabs, cakes, biscuits, roast papad, cheese toasts, bread toast, oil-free rotis, parathas, baked vegetables etc.
    OTG are available in different sizes -20L, 28L, 36L, 46L etc.
    An otg is usually provided with 3 shelves or racks and 3 knobs to adjust the temperature, heating positions and time.
    1. Temperature control knob - To adjust the temperature of the oven. The maximum temperature that can be set is 250 degrees Celsius.
    2. Function knob- There are usually 4 heating rods provided in an otg, two above and two below. The function knob is used to select one from the 6 heating options. They are : upper heating, lower heating, both upper and lower heating, rotisserie with upper heating, and rotisserie with both upper and lower heating with or without convection.
    Convection Function- Get the perfect texture and browning on kebabs and more with the convection function that simply ensures perfect results.
    3. Time control knob - The time control knob is used for setting the time. The time can be set according to the dish that you are making.
    E.g. while cakes take 25 to 35 minutes to bake, cookies can be baked in about 15 to 20 minutes or less. The maximum time that can be set in most ovens is 60 minutes.
    The regular accessories provided with an otg are a baking tray, a grill rack, a crumb tray, a tray handle, skewers, rotisserie spits and a rotisserie handle.
    1. baking tray:This can be used for cooking or roasting fish, chicken, vegetables, etc and preparing pizzas, pita bread and puffs. You can also use this tray for heating food. Another vital use of this tray is that you can place it in the bottom rack of the oven when you are grilling chicken or vegetables in the middle rack or while using the rotisserie mode to cook Tikkas and kababs. This will help in preventing juices from the chicken from falling on the heating rods below.
    2. crumb tray: This is usually placed at the very bottom of the oven to collect any crumbs or pieces that may fall off during a baking or grilling process. It can be removed and cleaned.
    3. Grill rack: Cake pans, cookie trays, muffin moulds can be placed over the grill rack or large slices of chicken, fish, etc can also be grilled by directly placing them over it. Alternately, the grill rack can be turned upside down so that skewers can be placed over it to grill kababs, chicken, paneer, etc.
    4. Rotisserie spit: The rotisserie spit is a long rod which is used to grill whole chicken or make tikkas and kababs in Tandoori style. It rotates and hence the food is evenly cooked on all sides.
    5. Tray holder: This is used to remove the hot grill rack and baking tray from the oven.
    6. Skewers : The skewers can be used to prepare kababs, tikkas, grill small pieces of chicken or cubes of paneer and vegetables. During the grilling process, the skewers have to be turned once in a while to ensure uniform cooking.
    7. Rotisserie handle : After using the rotisserie spit for grilling, the hot rod can be removed from the oven using this handle.
    With the given accessories, you can make puffs, pizzas, and grill or roast chicken and vegetables but to bake cakes, cookies, etc there are some cake pans and moulds that are necessary to be bought.
    preheating : Before we bake something, our oven needs to be heated to the proper temperature (specified in the recipe.). It can take 10-15 minutes to reach the right temperature. The act of turning 'ON' our oven and letting it heat up to the right temperature is referred to as "preheating".

      Thank you so much for all your appreciation. It really means a lot to me. Any heating elements or rods (including oven rods) are made with NICHROME, as it has a very high resistance and high melting point. Due to it's high resistance, when current goes through it, produces a lots heat, that can be used for cooking or any other purpose. Hope this will be helpful. Best regards 🙏

    Temperature mentions on all OTG seem difficult how do you precisely look at a 160 or 170. I use an oven thermometer but because mine is new I need to keep checking every 5 mins for doneness. Also, any tip for overheating issues?

    • @science_sir
      @science_sir  3 роки тому

      Priya you're absolutely right about the markings. We can use the approximate value, oven thermometer is the best solution for precise measurement of temperature and u already have it. Priya, if u feel or thermometer shows overheating, use the temperature dial to reduce the temperature during baking but trust me few differences won't change anything a lot.

    yay this is the same oven i got new. however my heating rod became Red only once in the beginning of preheat and then stayed black. after i spoilt the bun recipe i tried tandoori paneer and chicken was cooked well but i didnt get a crisp coating at all. even tried pizza and the edges didnt brown for me. should i get the oven checked?

    • @science_sir
      @science_sir  5 років тому

      Not at all, your oven perfectly fine. You are absolutely right about the redness of the rods..its perfectly normal. To get the charring effect we need to place the Chicken on the top rack (close to the upper rod) for the last 5 to 10 mins. Hope that will work for u..

  • @rinyshibu4322
    @rinyshibu4322 4 роки тому +2

    Sir i am planning to buy a microwave convection grill..according to your view point which one is good for baking cakes and grilling..is mictowave convection grill or OTG

    • @science_sir
      @science_sir  4 роки тому +4

      If u already owned a solo microwave oven, there is no need to buy convectional microwave oven separately, it that case go for a convectional OTG as it's cheap as compared to the convectional microwave oven. ( Cost of convectional microwave oven is about 9000 INR whereas same OTG cost 3000-4000 INR)
      But if u do not own any microwave oven till now, then u can definitely go for convectional microwave oven.
      The performance of baking for both convectional microwave oven and OTG are almost same as I have both and I have used both for baking. Hope this will help you to take your decision. 🙏
