    If you like the lore, the GC Prime has the better version of it for 1 key reason. The Chozo call Samus a "hatchling", it's a small detail but immensely important and it made no sense at all to remove it. The Chozo consider Samus to be bound to them by blood, so much so that they basically call her their child. Taking that away just doesn't make sense.

      I forgot about this but that's a cool point.

      The Tallon IV Chozo have no idea what's happening on Zebes as they intentionally isolate themselves. They should have zero personal connection to Samus, so the Entrusted One rewrites make far more sense.

    • @BlondeBarbarian
      @BlondeBarbarian 4 місяці тому +1

      @@AICW this. Also calling her a hatchling is corny as hell

    • @samy29987
      @samy29987 2 місяці тому

      @@AICWYou are assuming that the Chozo on Tallon IV never communicated with any of their own species in the galaxy, like ever. Yes, they lived in their own ways, but we just don't know the full story behind their colonization and all the details in how they lived beyond a few hints here and there that they just wanted to live peacefully and connect with the world around them. But thats all we know.
      Maybe they knew about Samus, perhaps Zebesian Chozos contacted them, perhaps they learned about her upbringing from other sources. We just don't know.
      Both the entrusted one and hatcthling work imo. It comes fown to preference.

    I definitely understand the different feeling gamecube gives you, it's way different than the remaster. I'm playing Echoes right now and it is WAY more immersive on the original aspect ratio and controls, even to the point where I could feel genuinely frightened exploring dark corridors. Everything feels so grounded and real in how Samus controls, and positioning feels way more strategic

    I felt that the tank controls felt different on switch because the GameCube controllers has the little divots in all 8 directions making it much easier to hit the direction you want to hit. When I first played it on switch I wanted to use the tank controls and had to plug in my GameCube controller for it to work best with me

    • @crywolfplays
      @crywolfplays  4 місяці тому +3

      Yeah that's a really good point, it's almost like the game is super old school in the sense that there's sort of 8 primary directions to move rather than the super fluid controls of the remaster dual analog.

    This is a great video I had the same feeling too
    I was first introduced to the Metroid series thanks to the shadow drop of Prime remastered (I wanted to play Prime so bad when I used to watch my cousin play the Trilogy right after the direct I bought it, played it and fell in love with the series. After I finished remastered I decided to get dolphin and play Prime 1 and I noticed a lot of differences which did make it feel more heavy compared to the more fluid Switch version, getting used to the controls took me a bit of time.
    I too also want a remaster of Prime 2, imagine seeing Sanctuary Fortress.. :o

      This is awesome, I'm glad you got to play both and it's an interesting perspective to start with the remaster and go back to the original. I agree sancutary fortress would be the best biome for a remaster, torvus bog would be cool too, I talk about these in my Prime 2 remaster vid :D

    Metroid Pirme was my first Metroid game. I got it when i bought my gamecube for a half decent price in December 2020. Took me a few months to get into it but man it didn't take long for me to play the rest of the series from there. I always suggest Prime to my friends or any new switch owner. The game has aged beautifully. No rose tinted glasses on me. I played it when i was 18, never touched a metroid game before that(unless if you count Brawl), and played the game completely blind. I never even knew the game existed at all until i played it

    I do greatly enjoy the heavy claustrophobic feel of the gamecube prime games. I kinda go back and forth whenever I do my annual trilogy playthrough.
    A change that the remaster has that I think drastically changes how it feels to play is the fact that you are forced to do a triple burst of regular shots before a charged shot on the power beam. In every other version its a singular shot followed by a charged shot. But each subsequent charged shot can be pre charged. I honestly hate the burst fire function. I vastly prefer the manual fire of the other ports.

    This is such a fantastic and fresh take especially that 4:3 argument (never crossed my mind), which is so rare to find on UA-cam nowadays. My only critique is that I found no issues with the strafting. It’s a mechanic that takes time to master and appreciate over time with experience and replay.

    Nice video. I haven't played Remastered yet but I'm glad to see someone talking about this sort of thing. PrimeHack is generally my preferred way to replay nowadays if I'm just looking for a relaxing stroll through Tallon IV, the GameCube version is a close #2 for all the reasons you stated.
    Plus, the original has the most interesting and mult-ifaceted movement in the series thanks to dashing, l-jumping, and r-jumping. Not enough people appreciate these little minor things when it comes to remakes. Like there are so many games where I fully agree with the masses that the remake is way better overall, but sometimes the little intricacies get lost in the transition.
    I've only played Metroid Prime through on Switch, but this was still fascinating to watch because I doubt I ever would have noticed these things. When I tried playing this version in 2013, I was too put off by the controls to get very far.

    I found that the new twin stick controls made swapping beams and visors uncomfortable the whole play through. Same with firing off super missiles and the jump button. I had to swap literally everything including the Y axis and beam/visor controls before the controls made sense. This was a process that wasn't immediately apparent until I started picking up the different upgrades. The biggest letdown however, is definitely the diamond ABXY pattern vs everything orbiting around A. Would I go back to Gamecube controls? Probably not, but it was hard to relearn what I already knew. That being said, I'm still a pretty staunch advocate for the GameCube controls for Prime 1 and 2. The Wii waggle controls from Prime 3/Trilogy never felt natural to me. In fact, turning was even harder having to pan the pointer to the edge of the screen. The free-lock felt pointless because I still had to aim after locking on. The thing that is great about Prime Remastered is that they give you more than enough options and you will totally figure out how you want to play.

    • @crywolfplays
      @crywolfplays  3 місяці тому +1

      I agree the controls of MP remastered take some modifying to get them to feel right, I almost made a video about this. I also swapped the beam/visor controls, you switch beams all the time vs visors so I don't get why that's not the default. I also switched the missile button. Personally I also like to remove the Helmet from the HUD and lower the opacity, I find it a bit distracting and it blocks too much of the beautiful environment. I'm really glad they included so many customization options.

  • @ImB4k4

    Apparently the thermal visor was designed to take advantage of specifics in how the Gamecube rendered, which the Switch couldn't efficiently emulate. For similar reasons, they had to remove dynamic light sources, so your beam no longer illuminates dark hallways as it travels down them. There are some really good interviews about this: ua-cam.com/video/0oiIm5Ymu6s/v-deo.html for dynamic lighting, ua-cam.com/video/KX-9M2kiz9k/v-deo.html for thermal visor

    I'll admit that I'm spoiled and primarily play the prime games with pc controls using Primehack these days, it feels good to control but you can definitely feel the game was designed around a slower and more deliberate control method. Enemies whose mechanics are designed around your lock-on, which is most of them, can either be cheesed insanely easily or just refuse to work properly unless you actually use lock-on.

    I think we would all benefit and it'd help heal the world a bit if we went back to Metroid Prime and played through on the original GameCube. It'd help us remember a simpler time, when gaming innovation was going strong.
    It'd also help us remember that the GameCube controller memes have gone too far and it's time to recognize that those controllers were great, and it's for reasons like you're describing here. Every major console controller after the GameCube stuck to some boring design. What would a kid choose between a chubby corporate Xbox controller, a sci-fi wannabe PS5 controller, or a goofy purple colorful GameCube controller they would choose the GC every time.
    Hopefully Prime 4 can capture some of the essence of this simpler time and take some of the "corporate" out of this beloved industry. Perfect video.
