My first love had a Croat mom and a Serbian father. Her brother settled in Croatia. I met on a cruise and it was like past loves from another age reincarnated. She settled in Florida with her son who wasn’t the reason we broke up. She didn’t know she was with child until a few months later and decided to mistakenly stay with the father of her child who left and didn’t show up until five years ago. What’s funny to me is my great grandmother and my great great grandfather were from Ukraine, which o only learned a decade ago. Short story long we still care about each other but she lives 6000 miles away and I found someone else. But I’ll never forget my “soulmate”. I wish she hadn’t gotten pregnant until a month later with yours truly. Funny how time unfolds. She was the best thing about that year. I let her live her life and talk to her brother just to say hi. I don’t want to impose directly. It’s not diplomatic. It’s away to let her know I still care. 🙏🤍
I went to UC Berkeley back in the 1980s. I took a class in Folklore from world renowned Folklorist Prof. Dundes. Prof. Dundes said the a culture's folklore tells you more about the society than the official dogma.
What a great discussion, maybe one of the most important so far, thank you Stephen Douglas & Jonathon! Understanding russia’s methods of psychological manipulation is crucial to combatting & dismantling it… the west is so far behind the ball but hopefully it’s not too late if this information is widely shared & understood
I unsubscribed from a lot of channels after the election. I decided I need to keep Trump out of my living room and my conciousness for my own mental health. It's poison just like what Putin spews. But I'm keeping your channel.
So when Putin rambles on about what His people pumped into Western Culture, the Trump points out that those same things are bad.... Do you even know where your mindset comes from?
I am telling my fellow dudes about this new movie I was told to watch about some women dressed like little red riding hood being abused by 'the big bad wolf'. I think it is called The Handmade Tail. I guess it is supposed to help us figure out the struggles women go through when trying to kill their little girls asleep in their mother's womb and mature thoughtful people try to stop them.
I've cut off pretty much all analytics and most of the news after the elections. it was pretty much ripping the better part of me off, because i valued me being informed very much, and always strived to broaden my understanding of the world. but it all shattered. first, because US was always considered an example, a beacon, a leader of so called "free world", a land where things are better and wiser, a place that can unite us, be the global police. turned out, it's a nation of r*tards, an ideal consumers, people who value an ignorant but confident show far more than intellect, prejudices over values, traditions over progress, short-term gains over long-term common good. its backwadness will result in the death of an entire western civilization. and would Europe come to the rescue? nope - too busy worrying about their own comfort. and, heh, who would be the victor in this situation, who'd bring the most advanced civilization to its fall? some great power armed with alien technology? a rotting corpse of a russian empire - one of the most pathetic and barbaric entities the world has seen in centuries! that's so hysterically hilarious and endlessly sad, that it's just ripping the heart out of my chest. and secondly, it's a question of my country's future: the only chance for positive change in Belarus would be seizing the moment when russia start to collapse on itself after the defeat in Ukraine - it'll be preoccupied in itself, fighting hundreds, if not thousands, feudal wars between its ranks, too busy to project its influence over its neighbours, support their puppet pro-russian regimes. if Trump forces a stalemate, russia won't be damaged enough yet, it won't collapse, and our window of opportunity will be lost for god knows how long. and with that future ahead of us (or rather, without any future), why bother getting myself up to speed - no matter what i do or don't, nothing'll change, at least not for the better. not in this generation. so, "ignorance is bliss", as one said. and you know what? my mental health is already improved. but is (relative) happiness worth living as a dumb ignorant f*ck? as of now I'm still undecided - maybe not living is a better option.
This video is pure gold.... weaving together the personalities, the geopolitics, and even tying in the psychological and bringing in the fatalist mindset of certain Russian authors...... this is absolutely some of the best stuff on UA-cam. I love Silicon Curtain....
Except he's a coward who deletes all the contrary comments. A coward like Zelensky who can't stand any opposition so he outlaws it. This channel is an echo chamber of neo-con chickenhawks.
Donald Trump can increase the production of oil, crash the price of crude, Russia NEEDS 70$ a barrel to balance the books and last time, under Trump oil was 40$. So Trump could end it that way.
I think the best moment for me was when TRUMPUTIN addressed the UN about how good HIS Presidency was and the ' WORLD ' LAUGHED AT HIM !!!! 🤡🤭🤣His REACTION was PRICELESS , " I DIDN'T EXPECT THAT RESPONSE " !!!! ONE OF HIS FEW honest comments !!!!! 🤔🙂😏😉 SLAVA UKRAINE ! 👍🏿 👍🏽👍✌🖖🇨🇦🍁🌻💛💙🇺🇦
I'm not sure I agree with Vlad's opinion today. People who don't support specific brands, such as those who use child labour, are entitled to vote with their feet and veto the brand. This is normal. You don't have to hang around to negotiate, nor should you have to. It's a choice to abandon the brand. Also, 'engagement' is two-way, and there are other media alternatives. People who don't have a Facebook account don't have one for a reason including, but not limited to, an intense dislike of the brand.
Nothing to "turn on." Trump and America doesn't owe this little grifting troll anything. Trump will simply put America first, which means Zelensky's grift will end and the Ukraine will go back to what it's been for hundreds of years, part of Russia.
They broke the law, they are here illegally, there is absolutely no comparison... due process... due process is filing the paperwork, going to your court date, getting the proper paperwork.. theres a reason an overwhelming majority of americans support this policy.
Interesting information from this guest. I like the way they describe the fact that the Russians over reach. The downside with the fact that it is likely that given the Ukrainian attitude they will prevail is that in the mean time there is huge damage and suffering
@@liameoin5416 While I fully agree that the brits were the "stick" that was stirring the pot in Ireland you can beat your boots that the Soviet Union had a hand steering that stick.
Lol, that's some hardcore revisionism. If anything the KGB supported the IRA, but they didn't start the thing, That was hundreds of years in the brewing, even before the Reformation.
@@liameoin5416 as the grandson of a republican patriot who assisted during the 1920's (& served a bit of time in Mt. The size of USSR and todays RU's security and info apparatus (it's really one unit in a hybrid form that no other country has anything remotely similar to) is truly hard to grasp, around a million actual professionals, and millions of other minions helping. It is frankly the most impressive info-operations network in the history of humanity, AND it's actively trying to literally take down the entire basis of western civilization, i.e the freedom & joy of love of life (& each other) itself, as seen in how the politics of individual self-agency came to be, through the Englightment period of euro history., etc

Johnathan. Do you know how I could start to find an interview with a Russian historian from 20 (or so years ago) that I watch on TV. The historian told the interviewer how he had been hired by Putins Govt. to rewrite Russian School history books. I remember it because of just how ashamed of what he had done he seemed; he was full of remorse, even while he was explaining how he'd done it. It was probably Panorama, World in Action or Newsnight?? I can't be sure but, who best to contact to find it? Thanks.
@@grantg9324 Please don't be facetious. It was probably on an otherwise unremarkable program for the time, on British weekday TV, from a long time ago; of course I've looked for it but there are professionals who do this kind of work and Johnathan is well connected in the UK MSM world so I thought I'd ask.
Anna From Ukraine just finished the part two of her anti-propaganda six parts series "Russian literature is FAKE!? How the Kremlin uses it for war | BIG RUSSIAN LIES #2" I'll watch it right after this here.
Ukrainians seem to look at government and heroes similar to people in my own country - Australia. There's a healthy degree of iconoclasm - but with some humour. The Brits share it to some degree too. The idea of taking the mick out of authority. The US have never had this and have always had a more reverential attitude to authority.
Years too late. The war would be over if Biden did that earlier and delivered the aid approved by congress. The war has been so mismanaged. Nothing changed that makes striking Russia now any different than a year ago. The restrictions are lifted now because Biden just feels like doing it.
Incredibly useful discussion guys. I am amazed that some of these conclusions I’ve worked out by myself, but you guys are pro, and decoded a lot more of this “book of disinformation “ that seems to be used all around the world
"Don't you cross my bridge or I'll eat you. Said the giant with a terrible roar. Please don't eat me sir 'cause I'm tiny. And my brother's right behind and he weighs a great deal more. So the giant let him pass and he sang this song, I'll just wait here 'till (I can't recall the names) comes along." 😁
I am only 8 minutes into this video and I already know I’ve found what I’ve been looking for- as an educator, artist, art historian, student of history and archaeology, and someone who co-taught biblical archaeology, I can see where you’re going with this already. I read Jung and Campbell as well as having a knowledge of mind control experiments, cults, brainwashing and the way propaganda works. This campaign waged by Putin has been brilliant. So has the Heritage Foundation/MAGA campaign. Trump’s campaign was able to hit each section of the population in their own information bubble algorithm with targeted propaganda tropes that appealed to their specific archetypes and myths. They found the vices and sins they would appeal to them or that would tweak the hate and fear in those bubbles and they played into that. The crypto bros got “crypto will go to the moon and we hate crypto regulators I’m firing them all” and the MAGA moms got the “save the children from the pedophile libs” targeted myths about the election platform and the state of the nation. Someone would be demonized. A hero’s journey type narrative was created where voting for Trump was always the answer and the voter was made the hero of his own fairy tale by saving America from “the other _____” I’ve been trying to tell people this since 2015. History repeats itself because humans forget so quickly. 😢 I’m very interested to listen to this and hear possible solutions and if you agree with my assessment so far. I want to stop this from happening. I don’t want to live the future as a disabled female artist in a fascist America. It’s ugly where we’re headed.
@ thank you. I watched it take my father before he passed and now my uncle. He blocked me the day after the election for questioning him “as a man” and his choice of information sources. It’s breaking my heart to see how propaganda uses algorithms and feeds into human fears. It’s a psyops game that cults, religious leaders and politicians use because we’re easily manipulated. Humans are story tellers. It’s how we build community. We’re not sophisticated enough to tell fact from fiction in this digital age. I’m truly scared for the future of America because neighbors live in very different realities based on what media they consume. My neighbors could very easily believe I’m sacrificing children or hiding immigrants or a danger to them strictly because of what Facebook propaganda tells them. Elon controls X so who knows what he’s saying. It’s a scary world.
@@reneemcgowan3409 Yes. Starving old women in rags fossicking about in fields to find anything edible or healing were witches casting spells and flying on broomsticks. Guilty and ugly. An absolute corker of a session Jonathan, I love all that lugubrious stuff involving Dostoevsky, Wagner, Gogol and Goethe!! The lovely associations your subject made about the 3 billygoats gruff crossing the bridge with the narky troll scaring them off - I used to have nightmares about a troll coming out of my wardrobe when I was a young child 45 or 50 years ago and do you know what? Despite my immense capacity for introspection, I had never made that connection between perhaps that story and my nightmares although believe me when I say that my provincial (albeit, in fairness professional) parents werent exactly of delicate of sensibility when it came to the sort of material they would read to me and my even younger brother 😂😂😂 Little Red Riding Hood with the granny eating wolf who then dragged up in the old woman's apron and bonnet the better to disguise itself, the Boy who cried wolf, all manner of Æsop's Fables many of which are quite "a lot" for a seven year old - and of course the absolutely terrifying tales of the mercurial (and therefore even creepier) Baba Yaga and her cottage on chicken legs deep in the forest who would eat children and boil their bones and gnash her iron teeth when angered! You REALLY can see all the undertones of that, particularly I believe the further east you go and by the time you get to Siberia, you're well away from the pious, icon kissing, rosary bead clutching ladies in veils crossing themselves and genuflecting autonomically and well into ancient crones in layers of mismatched patchwork shawls and scarves surrounded by tchotchkes - animal skulls, rabbit feet, dried flowers, kitschy brass charms and all manner of smoked glass "crystals" and woollen dollies and a knack with tea leaves who for a ruble will tell your fortune and find you a mate. I KNOW it's deeply unfashionable to denigrate other cultures and not to "value them" differently but equally. Sorry, but I can smell the filthy hovel from here and I KNOW they can't help it that they've lived as close to the poverty line as it's possible to be without falling into the abyss - no better off than a 19th Century serf - or frankly a 16th century one. And all the concomitant disadvantages that abject poverty brings - lack of education, lack of healthcare, lack of access to the law all massively exacerbated by the endemic, crippling corruption. But when does it reach the point Jonathan, where enough is enough? We still had the tail ends of rationing in the mid 1950s - no wonder we took to rock n roll of the rest of that decade and the sex and psychedelia and freedom of the following one. And we'd only had 15 years of it with only 6 of those actively at war - and of those 6 only perhaps 2 or 3 where the Luftwaffe bombers, German artillery firing at us from the Continent and the V1 and V2 rockets were sent in. About a decade ago I had an eye procedure at St Thoms's and getting the 155 from Westminster Bridge Road, I fell to talking with an elderly but sprightly woman with whom I exchanged glances due to my wearing of a very prominent eye patch bandage which I duly told her why and of course then the ice is broken and as we both lived in Streatham we had a good 25 minutes or so to really get going and it transpired she had lived there her whole life and of course that proved irresistible to me and asked her everything i could think of about her experiences and even now Jonathan I'm getting goosebumps remembering what she said. But this is the thing, Jonathan - despite the "we're all in it together" and "Long live the King" and baking "apple" pie using swede and making gnats' piss tea by using the bag 17 times and all that codswallop - Jonathan the country was hacked off with it. A MUCH duller story than the aristocratic Churchill's glamour and patriarchal stolidity and the Army's derring do - is the fact that the Labour ministers did an astonishingly good job of keeping all "the machinery" of a country going - hospitals and schools - even seminaries - on top of the Almighty task of ensuring there was enough food and clean water - and all the million other things to keep us in the ring with Jerry. No wonder Labour got in after it was all over because the country had bloody great holes in it that needed organisation, order and a boring methodical approach that Churchill would have been bored to death with. Why mention all this? Because over the years we have changed, reacted snd adapted. While Russians seem stuck in a loop and sorry but I just dont believe it's because of all the propaganda. And btw, after the IMMENSE privation, Churchill was deadly serious about attacking the Russians after the Germans capitulated - now come off it - if Churchill saw the danger 80 bloody years ago, we should have seen it all along. I know Stalin was still on the throne and history tells us things were surprisingly good all things considered during the Krushchev years - but ANYTHING would have been better so it hardly counts and of course "better" is all relative - while we were running around in Minis and MGs and Jags, Russians had outdoor toilets and a bike - if they were lucky. And while Sergei of the Ushanka Show talks winningly about his rather charmed life (ironically in the then Soviet Socialist Republic of Ukraine....) most of that is a) because his dad had a comparitively good job and did his fair share of wheeling and dealing and b) because by the 70s when he was growing up, you COULD buy a more cosmopolitan range of goods c) there was no instant media like today so the Communist party COULD realistically and reliably fill the country with pride having won the space race and got nuclear - power gen and fearsome bombs - but even then Jonathan you can see the creeping rot the underlying knowledge that the system was creaking - and a sort of psychological cancer ate away at anyone with a few connections and was in the know; essentially that most all of their science and tech was stolen - like the Chinese today. And the fact the quality of life of the average Russian has been so low for so long just makes it all the more incredible to me not that they haven't risen up and demanded change. Vlad Vexler has rightly spoken of EVERY heartbreaking opportunity the Russians have missed - it's just agony. But at the same time, that would just not be tolerated by Brits. For Christ's sake we had a mass uprising in 1381 already that while ultimately repressed, put the fear of God into the top brass and while whether the Peasants Revolt created the change in social conditions or merely sped up what was already happening is moot - but the point is Brits were already boisterous and ballsy by the bloody 14th century - no slaves were we. And I'll be honest, I was somewhat surprised to hear you didn't "get" the jokes having failed to appreciate just how deeply that "everything we touch turns to shit" schtick runs with those bloomin' Russkies. You can see it from HERE. There's a CHILDISHNESS that runs through the core of Russians - a sulky, pouting resentfulness that so WANTS to be loved, admired and INCLUDED - but like the unpopular kid at school, if you're just not likable, you're unlikable and it doesnt matter what you do - in fact tryjng to be nice makes it worse and that gets to people. It's less "clues" - more bloody great signposts that have been pointing to the crapulous great smelly heap of a country, perceiving its European neighbours' distaste for decades - centuries in fact. Even the pilot of the Tu-144 "Konkordski" who was demo-ing the plane at the Paris Air Show mid 70s - having seen Concorde do a stately and fairly dull pass with no barrelrolls or loop-the-loop - like a bratty kid (and I can just HEAR the Python-esque cod-Russian accent) "You wait to see what WE can do" - thinking him and his team were gonna blow the tits off everyone present with their "superior" jet - and of course stuffed the fucking thing and - GAAAAAHHHHD this is just so Russian - killed more people on the ground than the incompetent arsehole ended of his own people on board. Again, exactly as you and the nice Irish fella said "everythjng they touch turns to shit" - but the real significance of tbat is that while they havent been given the intelligence to do anything about it, they've got just enough to know they're subpar. They KNOW they're great, awkward lunks. It must be CRIPPLING to know that you have to cheat at everything to make your mark and have no real way of persuasion about you - it's my way or off to the dungeons with you. No wonder they're angry, confused, resentful and aggressive. It's all right there in front of our eyes Jonathan - with Putain that son of a whore right up front. Vladimir Kara-Murza would be brilliant, I'm sure as next President of Russia once the current one has been flung from the Kremlin walls - but there's just NO WAY the mindset of enough Russians will adjust enough - and QUICKLY enough - for the poor dear heart to have the FAINTEST chance. I'm sorry but i think Russia's gonna have to disintegrate and reform into smaller states like it all did in 1991. And I dont think the USA has the power to stop that and neither will it do anything whem China takes over much of the Far East which it is ITCHING to do as a nice booby prize - bubbling with oil and with bedrock made of platinum and diamonds - but that's a WHOLE other story..... Brilliant - loved this, it was RIGHT up my straße!

The Handmade Tail.
I think it will be the opposite Putin is weakended by the events in Syria

I'm not sure I agree with Vlad's opinion today. People who don't support specific brands, such as those who use child labour, are entitled to vote with their feet and veto the brand. This is normal. You don't have to hang around to negotiate, nor should you have to. It's a choice to abandon the brand. Also, 'engagement' is two-way, and there are other media alternatives. People who don't have a Facebook account don't have one for a reason including, but not limited to, an intense dislike of the brand.

A hero’s journey type narrative was created where voting for Trump was always the answer and the voter was made the hero of his own fairy tale by saving America from “the other _____”
I’ve been trying to tell people this since 2015. History repeats itself because humans forget so quickly. 😢
I’m very interested to listen to this and hear possible solutions and if you agree with my assessment so far.
I want to stop this from happening. I don’t want to live the future as a disabled female artist in a fascist America. It’s ugly where we’re headed.
That's a very astute analysis of the Trump MAGA campaign.
