I built a carousel in my shop for my small shop. Absolutely hated it. Tore it apart and built flip top tool holders. Nope, going back to putting things back on a bench. What work for some doesn't always work for others. Looking forward to the next video.
Something I found very useful is the Shop Planner found on the Grizzly Tools website. Go there and scroll to the bottom of the screen. Click on Shop Planner. You can specify the shop size and then drop Grizzly tools that resemble your tools on to the plan. There are many more things that can be found and added such as benches, cabinets, and carts. When placing my table saw and miter saw, I needed to allow for indeed/out feed space and this planner was terrific at this. Give it a look.
Okay Sam, I understand your goals but I went BUG-EYED when I saw your benchtop tool carousel! Stopped the video, found its construction video and bookmarked it. Now I need to cogitate a bit on items to include and where to locate...whilst I finish this video. So much to consider!😁🧐
I have the same problem small work space and I am doing the same thing right now with trying to optimize production flow. Can’t wait for the next one Sam.
If you extended the countertop to the door opening, it appears the drill press would fit alongside the new plywood cabinets. You could push the new cabinets to the left as well to make more room if needed. Love the vids Sam!
Hey while ya still have the truck! Could ya go over the bed build?! What was all included into it and what you would change if you did it again?! Thanks
Sure, I'll try my best to shoot a video on it for you. Not sure if it will be this channel or the Green Acre Homestead channel -- probably Green Acre Homestead. Thanks!
Use a rev-a-shelf mixer lift to make a cabinet for your drill press. It can stay out of sight until you need it, then with a pull of a handle it can be at the height you want it for working. Check it out here: www.amazon.com/dp/B00VI79OOM/
Man... the first video of yours I watched was your shop build, I build cell towers for a living but I’m just getting into wood working on the weekends. Off topic sorry.... anyways man, I’ve really enjoyed your content.
Are the cupboards above your new bench on French Cleats? If so, you could just bump them a bit further into the corner to make room for the drill press - if not, why not remount them onto French Cleats? With 20/20 hindsight, you could have made the bank of 4 doors into 2 x 2 door units, even if you didn't have enough ply to fill in the ends at the moment you could just put some cloth tape over the division until you find some at Roadside Recycling. Anyhow, for the moment I second the advice from several posters - make a roll around stand for the drill press to sit on, it can sit in the doorway to the storage area until you need to get in there then roll out of the way. I would have put the Rigid sander towards the middle of the room as that will let you work on much longer pieces without hitting the end wall. I'm looking to build a tool carousel based on your design. I will be using concrete formwork ply for the top - it has a low friction plastic laminate on both faces, no voids and usually at least some of the plys are hardwood, not just plantation pine, and nylon wheel casters which should cut down on friction - not sure if I will use fixed or swivel casters, swivel casters will tend to make it only want to turn one way. So far its planned to hold a light duty bench top drill press (I have a 17" floor standing press but its overkill for a lot of jobs), a spindle/belt sander like your Rigid and a Worksharp sharpening machine.
Hey Sam. I've come to the same conclusion in my small shop, and am in the middle of reorganizing and moving my benches all around so that I can line up my stationary power tools for better access. It is a daunting task to say the least. LOL. Also, Love the channel... and the beard. From one bearded brother to another... Haters are gonna hate, but a good beard lasts forever! LOL!
I hope you're getting a CNC and I also hope that you show those of us that want one, but are intimidated, how to actually use it. Fingers crossed. That is a pretty Boss looking beard, gotta admit.
Extend the tool bench, with a lower tier, to the corner. Since you have to add support to the end of the bench anyway. Place the drill press so the top sits beside the upper cabinet. Sure the twirly turny rotator thingy might stick out into the walkway a bit but learning to avoid walking into it is good practice for keeping the observation skills and reflexes sharp LOL None of us are getting any younger you know.
So im new to your channel and I was watching and thinking 🤔 "would it be wierd to compliment the beard, is that the key to this man's success?" you go and address every thought i had in your closing haha. I love your channel and I think im gaining the confidence to upload my own progress as im new to woodworking! But seriously, is the A1 beard game your secret bro?
Hey Sam, really like the channel, I'm all in subscribed and all. Here's an idea. You can make that scroll saw a channel give away for someone else's small shop.
Other than a deep corner, I really don't see a good use case for the carousel in a designated wood shop. Perhaps if you had a sharpening station or a bunch of small mounted hand tool jigs?

You have got to love those Multi-Tools as they can get you of a lot of tight spots when other tools (Sawzall) don't quite make the cut.

Sam you do the simplest thing and make it fun. You are something else, I'm waiting to see what's a coming.
I love your sense of humour, I laughed out loud at least 8 times. Thanks! :)
"Hey bro ,what's up." Love the honesty, can't wait to see what your getting

Thanks for sharing! I had forgotten about this resource!

I love my scroll saw.
Funny and honest, love it 👍

Looking forward to it Sam! Keep the videos coming.
Thanks! Will do!
another quality video...thanks Sam
Glad you enjoyed it

I'm eyeing that space at the end of the counter top for use still. Not sure if Drill Press will go there, but something needs to. :)
Sam I would move that drill press over to the right just past that cabinet
I also enjoy Workshop Tetris.
Strong beard man! By the way, you can “temporarily” store that scroll saw in my small shop! Lol.

The base of old tool carousel would make a good drill press table at end of counter. Adjust to height you need. Portable if you need to move it.
Can the new cupboards move across to the left to let you lift up the drill press?
I was wondering, when he built the cabinets, why he spaced them away from the left wall.
He lost about 7 to 8 inches.

How about a drill press cabinet on wheels?

That is awesome!

Two of my favorite places to get lumber are Roadside Recycling & Dumpster Lumber Co., you can't beat their price's. 😀

You will not be disappointed then. ;)

Hey Sam, great content! Keep up the great videos! You're getting a CNC aren't you?
Love the lights. Where did you get them at??
From Amazon. :) I really like them, too. Even sent some to friends as gifts and they enjoy them too. amzn.to/3oDTAr1
That time you come back to put the ear muffs on... Hahahahaha well done

Welcome aboard! I have not idea if the beard is the key, but will take anything I can get! :D
Sounds like a cnc is coming soon😀
Hey Sam, really like the channel, I'm all in subscribed and all. Here's an idea. You can make that scroll saw a channel give away for someone else's small shop.
I'm not against that at all! No clue how much it would be to ship that thing though...
*_Give us a hint Sam!!!! Let's play 20 questions!! I will start. Is it bigger than a breadbox?_*
What's a breadbox? 🤣
@@zapa1pnt It's what they ship your bread in.
Is it smaller than a refrigerator?
Ditch all three Sanders and get a 2x72 belt sander
Man you love that light, don’t let your wife see this! 👍🏻🇬🇧
Other than a deep corner, I really don't see a good use case for the carousel in a designated wood shop. Perhaps if you had a sharpening station or a bunch of small mounted hand tool jigs?
Do I see making Christmas ornaments in your future?
I'm not sure... those are tedious to make! I've tried (and failed) at a few over the years.
You made some, last year I think, with cedar rounds with names on them.
So sweet!
That cubie could really use some shelves or some other projects for storage. Could end up in a good video
Looks like sams getting a CNC
Cnc machine?
Yeah, I have to say that the cutting of the counter top was like 2007 Brittany! 😆
If you were closer I'd be interested in the scroll saw.
Looks like a redraft of you original plan is in order. A few more measurements for sure.
I would love to take your scroll saw off your hands lol. I am a newbie wood worker and am trying to (on a small budget) build up my tool arsenal!
It's still here! :) Some have said to do a giveaway but shipping would be outrageous I'm sure.
Why not separate the cabinets. Place the drill press between them
Do a giveaway for the scroll saw.
Agreed!
👍
Dust collection system!! Did I get it? 😉
That will be included in that spot, but isn't the primary "thing" :)
Hey bro - I like the channel. Beard is looking good, whatever.
You should do a give away and sign the scroll saw?
Totally not against that, wonder how bad shipping would be...
New cnc magic
You make me laugh, I know "gotta love me" you little dinosaurs. lol
That is a cool tool idea too bad you have to get rid of it
I think it is a CNC
Funny video just shaved all of my beard off wife said i looked like santa claus why not use that lumber to put shorty the drill press on be safe
Shops are never done. They're always a work in progress somehow.
Did you say you have "too many tools"?. Your tongue might just catch on fire
I've been buying tools for a few years now and wasn't aware of one. I guess I'll be getting one pretty soon.
Jeremy Fielding would lament with you - his carousel is gone too now...
Man i literally built the same thing and u tear it down lol
Sorry! LOL But hey, it did work great for me for two years... you may love it! I sure did until just now. :)
Dust collection!
It's a Tardis, then you'd have even more space, or a toilet cubicle. 🙄😆
You're getting a CNC ...!!! Really? What are you gonna make? Over and over and over ....🤣🤣
Looking forward to it Sam. Keep the videos coming!
Thanks! Will do!
