John Carpenter's The Thing is an exceptional film due to it's directing, comradery between actors & charismatic Kurt Russell, but mostly because "special effects" were mastered to the extreme. No CGI, just great film making.

@Brandon Loves The Movies I can't speak about his attitude during comicon conventions or anything like that, I never saw/heard him in those situations. Now, given the disrespect and condescending attitude from critics early on, I can somehow relate to a passive aggressive attitude.
John notoriously hates the Hollywood system and everything around it. He hates promoting his movie and doing all the PR circus. He wants to let the movie speak for itself.

I always get the impression that John Carpenter hates doing interviews. He always seems irritated. (for the most part)

I suspect he's fed up with being asked the same questions over and over.
