I'm so happy this man was in my life.. through his movies.. "The Thing "and
"Escape from New York" will always be part of my childhood, (I'm 46 now). And I will always be SUPER GRATEFUL! Can't wait for Escape in 4k coming next week!

Halloween is the movie that for me got me off my ass and had me start making short movies thanks mr Carpenter for inspiring me.

The only director to scare the ever living crap out of me, as a kid - and fascinate me as an adult.

John is a genius and set some standards that would be eventually regarded as « normal » in today’s movie industry

Why wasn't John carpenter given the keys to the kingdom like alfred Hitchcock? I don't understand how anyone can see escape from new York and the Thing and not realise he's a genius. Unbelievable

I believe my first intro to John Carpenter was Big Trouble in Little China, I believe I was 9 or 10. It was in my opinion a perfect movie, u had a buddy adventure with Supernatural Martial arts action, a green eyed princess needing rescuing. Like the quest adventures of old, told in modern day

Thing I like about Carpenter is just how normal he sounds. Not "Director-y" at all. True genius.

I think it's interesting he says he hates writing. I always felt the films he wrote were his strongest work, or at least his most memorable.

All you people in the south should keep an eye for these conventions, because sometimes John Carpenter shows up at some of them

The only person from Hollywood that I'd get a photo and autograph, if I get the chance.

John Carpenter always feels bothered when he's interviewed.

He casually mentions that one of his first films was made with Dan O Bannon. Dan created the Alien series! He also worked on Total Recall and Heavy Metal. Man…Carpenter is a legend and like Kurosawa and a few other legends they rubbed shoulders with other big figures in the industry. What escapes me is why and HOW can someone with Carpenters talent ends up not as rich as many of the actors that he worked with? My guess is that he was bad with people &/or had poor business sensibilities….

I am worried for John. He seems quite frail in interviews lately.

Lol Kentucky is the mid West.. he makes it sound like he's from the deep South lol. I live in Indiana... So I guess that makes me a southern man 😂

Kurt Russell was the John Carpenter stock player. (He was also the Disney stock player). Unfortunately without John Carpenter or Walt Disney Kurt Russell's career was never as great (though I like Unlawful Entry and Dark Blue). I thought Kurt Russell was somewhat wasted in The Thing, as he had a role any Tom, Dick or Harry could play. He was given a meatier character in Escape From New York. The Thing remake I don't think was quite as good as the first one. The biggest mistake with the Thing remake was turning all the main characters into complete morons.
