It's backfiring because someone has shortened the factory exhaust I done the same to mine and it does the same thing to fix it you put a 50 pilot jet in and it should fix it but just wanna say mate you done a top job rebuilding it keep it up champ 🤙
Yeah 08 09 they came standered with the short muffler with restrictive screen I'd be getting a slip on muffler check it's got no exhaust leak and checking the jetting the backfire isn't normal
And it's definitely not going anywhere near as hard as it should be a good running stock bike would go harder definitely something wrong with it and I think the clutch is slipping
I have been watching all the videos and I thought of you today when I hit 80 miles per hour on my YAMAHA Cs5.....Im 68 years old and still kicking Bikes butts......I was Louisiana Motorcycle Racing Champion back in 1974....Its so nice to see a young guy having so much fun and working so hard....unlike a lot of snowflakes I see on the net
Colton that doesn't matter that was just the bolt that holds the basket to the splines. That wouldn't cause the clutch to slip the plates not gripping hard enough is what causes it to slip.
Glad to see you got your $500 bike going. I just picked up a Honda CRF450r for $300 It is also in when you pick up a Dirt bike cheap and make something awesome out of it nice job golden guy. And keep up the good work.
I have an 08 and I love it! I had an 07 and I liked that one so much I bought the 08. Awesome motor with useable power everywhere, I can wheelie the shit out of mine effortlessly! Great work my friend you’re going to love her!
I hope you never lose that excitement from the first test ride of a new build. When you do, may as well find a different thing to do. Thumbs way up bud!
mx118racer the exhaust cam is 6 degrees off because he is using a stage 2 intake only Those cams are made to run in pairs. It is way down on its potential
Yes bro love it I’ve got the same bike about to feature on my channel after I get this ktm done these bikes have so much power well done for getting it finished god bless and safe ridding mate
I’ve been loving the dirtbike videos but be carful Mason, I wrecked my dirtbike Sunday and broke and dislocated my shoulder and I broke my toe. Be very careful but I’m happy that you could get her going!
Hate to be bad news carrier. But. That bike still is not at potential. Hot cams are degrees different. And running only one instead of both is like running with your choke on. It will run. But should be matched with the stage 2 exhaust cam
The carburetor is lean. Richer by going up with the main jet. Also you needed to adjust the intake valves according to your cam. That’s the proper way of doing it.
Bike seems to be running really good. For sure needs to be re-jetted and mess with the aircrew and needle clip adjustment. That would get rid of the bog and back fire
You guys are right, I realized that I have to be very careful with the cam caps. Never use the bolts to seat the cap, that's how shit gets warped. I got lucky.
@Jake Kirk ya its really not a big deal itll be fine. Long as you dont tighten them down with it threading them in is fine. I usually thread them in quick with a long ratchet extension and the socket, that way i can feel any resistance on the bolt, i also use a drop of oil for easier threading in and out if need be again.
Just FYI you didn't overfill the fuel. On 450s the engine makes so much heat and are mounted so close to the tank that once it's been running for a while it literally boils fuel in the tank.
450s r bad bitches lol had a crf450r when i was 13. I grew up on bikes to big for me my whole life but i rode that 450 constantly with buddies all over the place. We all beat on it but i beat the hell out of it. Would stand up in every gear with just a brap of the throttle. Loved that bike! Good job getting the yzf going ive wsnted one for along time
Yeah clutch sounds like it's slipping and the backfiring isn't normal I'd be putting a slip on muffler on it cause the standered ones are very ristictive and with the hotcams it might be messing it up so do that and if that don't change anything make sure there is no exhaust leaks check the jetting and set the air mixture screw properly. Definitely something wrong cause a good running stock 450 would go harder than that.
Well going from a 2-3 Hp Suzuki OR50 to a stage tuned 450 4stroke motocrosser is one he'll of a leap in performance, take it easy dude get used to it gradually.
@@Pankoek69 not starting an argument. He'll learn when the engine shits the bed. If he realizes beforehand, right on and congrats to him. And as a senior high school student I can say that it's practically like that in schools now anyways.
I should be studying but I’m going to watch this instead
This is studying 😎
I need to do 2 weeks of paperwork that are due in the morning but here I am lol
It's backfiring because someone has shortened the factory exhaust I done the same to mine and it does the same thing to fix it you put a 50 pilot jet in and it should fix it but just wanna say mate you done a top job rebuilding it keep it up champ 🤙
The 2008 and 2009 come stock with the short restrictive baffled silencer.
Between the hanging idle and backfiring I woulda rejetted it before I rode it

Nice work ! Glad u enjoyed it,. sounds like the clutch is slipping a bit ?
Probably would have been a good idea to check the valve clearance again since you went from a stock cam to a stage 2
Well done m8 you stuck with it. Your showing lots of skills to get there awsome so happy for you enjoy the bike
Glad Xmas came early for ya, holy torque on that spark plug though, I cringed.
Adjusted the clutch it’s slipping alot when you get on the throttle
For sure I didn't notice you picked it up first after watching it again it's 100% slipping
I was looking if i was rhe only one who noticed
Billy Bush for real that’s slipping if he thinks he felt power he ain’t felt nothing yet when that clutch bites right hehe
yeah i dont think he got close to 55 ft/lb when he first put it on
Colton that doesn't matter that was just the bolt that holds the basket to the splines. That wouldn't cause the clutch to slip the plates not gripping hard enough is what causes it to slip.
It’s nice to see people like you that actually know what they’re doing and learn when you are doing this
Good on the guy who donated the money for the cam shaft.....you have came so far from when I first started watching your videos
Welcome to the 450 team man!!! Enjoyed your video. It must be a really good feeling fixing it yourself.
So much persistence very nice my man.
Don’t use pre oiled filters without adding some extra oil onto the filter. They never come with enough
Glad to see you got your $500 bike going. I just picked up a Honda CRF450r for $300 It is also in when you pick up a Dirt bike cheap and make something awesome out of it nice job golden guy. And keep up the good work.
How did you get a 450r for 300??
Great when a project comes together! Great series! 👍🏍
I love your videos and you did a great job building the bike and early congrats on 50,000 subscribers and keep on doing what your doing

🙌 and that is why I love my YZ450 . I had the same reaction when i first got mine and i still behave the same way when I take it out.
Hell yeah man, good job. Hopefully a track day coming up before it starts snowing.
I hope you never lose that excitement from the first test ride of a new build. When you do, may as well find a different thing to do. Thumbs way up bud!
Yes i'm so happy bro, this was my fav project on channel! Can't wait for you to ride that beast!
I think that clutch is slipping a bit . Should easily lift the front wheel on tarmac in 2nd . 3rd . 4th .
mx118racer the exhaust cam is 6 degrees off because he is using a stage 2 intake only Those cams are made to run in pairs. It is way down on its potential

Is it a DR650?
Wicked my friend keep up the good work
Happy you figured it out man 4 strokes are scary

congrats, best feeling is riding your machine after fixing it

I had the 07 yz450f. I had to buy stage 2. And made sure they were the same. Those years are touchy. He'll learn lol
Six pack charger I’m surprised they sell them individually lol
Dang bro I really hope this channel gets bigger because it’s awesome
That’s how it is done. It takes never giving up to be a success.👍
And after you get it dialed in you most likely won’t let go that’s what happens to me on my YZ450F.
Great job mate sounds and ride fad well done you getting better at this . Top job
Favorite channel on UA-cam.
Congratz man, this is awesome.
Deselaration pop's, check intake valve clearances. A new excelarater pump will make a big difference.
So glad he got an air filter
Great job you got it running did you ever get the video of my bike I’m trying to right now
Never got the link to the jet assortment in the first start vid but congrats on getting it running
Awesome man! Always enjoy your videos!
How’s your fifty doing? Not to mention the cafe?
We love 💕 you! the guy 😐 gold guy !!!
Your builds and videos rock brother !!!👍🏼
You have excellent neighbours put up with your awesome shenanigans 🤗👻
I have been waiting for this! Keep it up my man!!
Man I have been long awaiting to see this! If you need some trails and stuff to test that beast out hmu!
Sounds Great! The back fire is short exhaust!
NICE!!! Not sure but sounds like you might have a bit of clutch slip
I heard it too
@@kooxy73 yeah seemed to rev fast but not lift as it should especially on bitumen
I miss my old yz450, i now have a tt250
Kinda early been waiting for this video

Good job my dude! Salute to you!
Yamahlube made cased the clutch to go out of my 2019 250f. Not suggested to run it
How do you know it was caused by the yamalube?
Music to my ears😍
Hell yeah brother!!!
My heart hurts every time you use powertools for any of the engines bolts
@Jake Kirk The main problem is bolting one side down, tight or not.......
You guys are right, I realized that I have to be very careful with the cam caps. Never use the bolts to seat the cap, that's how shit gets warped. I got lucky.
Never fear !
Gold guy has the touch ! Magic 👍🏼

Nice work. Now do a Supermoto build on the bike :)
Well done dude .
8:00 most lucky moment this year! :D

Good work mate 👍
Enough torque on the the spark plug?
That's what I was thinking, he was swinging off it 🤦♂️🤦♂️
NICE RIDE BRO!!!
Welcome to the blucru !
Great content, need more !
well done man. major respect

Good job brother
Bravo gg well done! Sounds lean.
Congrats man
Sound like youre clutch is sliping when you gave it some gas while driving it
Did you put in just a hot cam intake cam ?
Well going from a 2-3 Hp Suzuki OR50 to a stage tuned 450 4stroke motocrosser is one he'll of a leap in performance, take it easy dude get used to it gradually.
And it sounds lean that’s why it’s backfiring and why it overheated so quick and boiled over
Hope he knows those bikes don't like to sit and idle has to keep air going through the radiators
Enjoy your ride i like it alot
If you fix your slipping clutch, that thing is gonna have twice as much power my guy
great job!!!
fckin mad handles the valve cover
I just now restored my yz250f that sat for 10 years mind checking it out
Nice work
go up one step on your pilot jet to get that popping out of it
Its running lean. You should increase the jetting. It would stop backfiring
Some one mentioned adjusting/checking the intake valve clearance. This might help
Mate, there's a ring on the bearing of the cam that holds the cam in place. Looks like you forgot to switch the ring over from your old cam..
Just let him learn from it.
Let him learn from it by not saying a thing.. I love that idea, they should try that on schools and stuff
@@Pankoek69 not starting an argument. He'll learn when the engine shits the bed. If he realizes beforehand, right on and congrats to him. And as a senior high school student I can say that it's practically like that in schools now anyways.
I think your clutch is slipping a bit edit after watching more it’s definitely slipping but good job rebuilding the whole motor and having fun
Wow cant believe shes a big beauty...
Check value gap with new cams
Does the header get red hot
Adjust clutch it’s slipping, might have to put clutch plates
You need new clutch discs bro also a new handlebar the previous owner had been in a pretty serious crash
You should also examine the frame a bit
If it’s popping you’re valves could be out of adjustment
Now do a running from the cops video
Nice bro...
The burn sounds dry, I would play with the jetting, go bigger
Duuuuude!
I might be wrong but I think the timing still is off one of the cams is off by one tooth
