I have a 99 400. The guy I bought from said it's had the cam but still has manual decompression lever and makes a ticking noise all the time. Could my ticking be the decompression valve. Yours didn't sound like mine but I didn't see u installing a decomp plug. Thanks great video
I didn't install the plug I left the lever in the head but removed the cable and the control on the handlebars. Usually the ticking (almost like a diesel) is due to the valve clearance being excessive, I hope this helps

I have a silly question, I always thought the bigger cam lobes added more power by allowing more air to flow through the valve? That's really interesting that their using a smaller cam lobe, Did you notice a difference in power?
Thanks my man your the man I am following from now love yer man,8 years she's been in my shed ignoring her but now she's getting done, sounds bad lol inspiring you are great work keep it up my man 💪 love from Suffolk England 🇬🇧 ❤️ 👍
Hello I have a 2002 YZ426 and I just bought a hotcam. Is it going to be the same shim size that you used. If so what shim size did you use? Thank you 🙏
No, the shims change case by case, every tolerance is different bike to bike, you have to measure the gap and pick the right shims for your specific bike
@@AlbesADV, Hi, what's the valve clearance required for hotcams camshaft? Standard is 0.25-0.3 mm, what is it for the new one? The package of Hotcams includes this information? What gap did you left in there? I am not asking what shims, this varies from engine to engine, but what gap is needed for hotcams? Thanks and nice video!
@bogdanbelciu6242 Hi, Hot Cams uses the same clearances as the factory spec's. Intake .10-.15, and exhaust .20-.25mm (.004-.006 and .008-.010"). Cold engine. 👍
@@AlbesADV I've seen later a video where the guy shows the paper from Hotcams, it is 0.2mm. I am talking only about exhaust - because that is the one we all want, with autodecomp. In the manual I have for WR400F the exhaust valves clearance is 0.25-0.30
Hey, I have a question for you. I just purchased an 01 Yamaha yz426f. It's starts up and runs. I let it idle to warm it up to do a compression test. I noticed it started to leak coolant from under the engine. So I shut it off and installed the hose to test compression, finger tight because there's no way to get a wrench on it as it's in the well. I held the throttle open all the way and kicked it as to start it. After 5 or more times the Gage read just under 90 PSI. How bad is it? And is it possible the hose wasn't tight enough it leak out? Thanks for any help you can provide
Hi, the compression test on this kind of bike is not very accurate, you could do a leak test but you need the appropriate instrument a compressor etc. If you are able to kick the Kickstart without pushing the decomp lever then you have a problem, if not, then most likely the bike is fine, ride it, enjoy it and before you know will be time yo re-do the top end and put new piston rings ✊️
Yes and it goes from the handlebars to the right side (front corner) of the cylinder, take a look down there, I wonder if the previous owner installed auto-decomp cams
So there are no levers other than the clutch and brake. I took a look and I'm not seeing any cables or where the cable would connect down there. I recorded a little vid is there anyway I can send it to you maybe you can tell me what you think?
On the clutch side there should be a short little lever for the decomp, but if you don't have it maybe the previous owner installed the auto decomp cam. Can you upload the video on Instagram and tag me @albesadv ?
@@AlbesADV thanks for the quick reply just got done with the vapor and ur video super helpful i might try to do the cam later just cz it gets tiring getticg kicked by my own bike hahah
You have this ability to make tasks which seem impossible really doable. It's awesome!
Thanks, it's mostly patience and stubbornness mixed together 😂👍
I just did this on this bike. Your video was really helpful. Thanks! My god what a difference the new cam makes!
You made that chain fit seemlessly

I did, just a little more power, it's not quite the size of the lobes as much as the shape, but that's way too technical for my simple brain 😅

Thanks Lou, Buon giorno anche a te 😀👍
I have wr 426 f Yamaha. Planning to pup cam shaft that has a automatic decompression release. Any lead? Link?
Great vid. Did you check clearance after putting the cap back on?
Yes I did 😀👍
@@AlbesADV Was there any significant difference?
Do you mean in power or shim wise?
Hey I love your videos! What is the brand of the ted mechanics stand you use to stabilize your dirt bike?
So did you use a 450 cam or a 426 cam. I want to do this but not sure what to order. Any direction would be helpful
I used a 426 cam, I'm not sure if the 426 and the 450 have the same cam, but when I ordered mine, was specific for the YZ426f
Thank you
Sir good day. Can u give the exact product link .

Can you tell me we’re you got the cam and shims plz
I got them on Amazon, there should be a link in the description 👍

@bogdanbelciu6242 on my maintenance manual for the 426f says 0.20 to 0.25 for the exhaust side
Did you remove the decomp lever and install a plug in the engine? Thanks
No, I used the decomp lever as a plug and removed only the cable and the lever on the handlebars
I bought hot cams for mine. but where u buy the auto de compression?
Hotcams makes a version of the exhaust cam with decomp already on it, I don't think you can add the decomp to the cam after the fact
Would this process be the same on a 2002 yz250f?
It might be all the YZ of that year are very similar

Do have to drain the oil
No
Broooo this helped sooo much
No problem 👍
I have the same bike what size Shim you you i have a 2001 yz426f I'm putting a hotcam in it
It depends different bikes have different tolerances, you gonna have to measure it. Look among my YZ426f videos, I have one on how to shim the cams 👍
Hola buenas, el subchasis de la yamaha wr2003 le vale a la yamaha wr426 del 2000?
no se, lo siento
What year is the bike? I got a wr426 from 2001 and I don’t got a aluminum subframe like yours
It’s a 2002
Wym all 426 have metal after the 450 had aluminum
I worked on 2 different 2002 Yz426f and both had aluminum subframe, the main frame was metal but the subframe is aluminum
Yours is probably painted blue...MAYBE & Should be aluminum. But then again this is a YZ NOT a WR...
hello
i want to install yz cams in my wr 400 do i need both cams or are the intake cams the same on both bikes
Hi Felix, sorry I'm not sure
How long did it take you to finish?
Start to finish about 3 hours
good video!
Thank you 😀👍
So since the cam is smaller was there a power difference? Is it still a 426 or?
More power, the cam doesn't change the displacement so it's still 426cc
@@AlbesADV thanks for the quick reply just got done with the vapor and ur video super helpful i might try to do the cam later just cz it gets tiring getticg kicked by my own bike hahah
Lol, I ear you 👍
@@AlbesADV Are the cam lobes smaller, or just the shaft?
The lobes are not as wide, but just about the same thickness, if I remember correctly
Do you have to replace both cams
No, you can do just one
What shim did you use?
Hi Fernando, if you are talking about the shim size, I don't remember, I've done a few YZ426f and they are all different.
Will need to run the cam im worh mineral oil and not let it idle below 3k rpm light trail ride let cool and change oil
Is it the same process on a 2001 yz250f?
If it is 4 strokes, yes
can you help me where do i get it for my wr400f 1999
They are hard to find, try to search part #4002-1IN for the intake and part #4035-1E for the exhaust
Where do you get the shims for the cam?
I got mine on Amazon
@@AlbesADV What size did you end up using? i got a whole box of shims coming and id like to cancel out some of the guess work lol
It changes from bike to bike, depending on how much they wear out
Where’s the tuono videos ? We need more
Coming soon, today I'll install the exhaust, the Patrons should get it in 2 weeks and 2 weeks later for everybody else 😀
