I crate-trained my dog until he was 1yo. When he knows all of the house manners and has no separation anxiety issues, he is free-roaming in our house.😅 but the crate is still there, the door opened, and he is okay to be crated on command. He is 2yo now 😊

I've always crate trained my dogs. Its not cruel and here is the undeniable proof. A proper crate trained dog uses it as a den for well being and enjoys hanging out in the crate at times. One NEVER penalizes a dog by making them go to the crate for punishment. That's crate training 101. Also I've never needed to close the crate door after that 6-12 month period.

I am wondering to see if you may have anything that might help my pure bred female Pomeranian of 4yrs. She's been licking/biting her paws & her back quite a lot, she shakes her head & is also eating grass now. I'm not sure what would be the right product to give her. It might possibly be a yeast problem or even an unhealthy gut.
If you could please let me know ASAP, that would be amazing!!! Please consider providing your email.🙏 Thank you so much for your concern.🙏❤

I totally agree with the crate NOT being overdone and for punishment. I have always used crate for when I have younger pups that are not trustworthy free roaming while I’m gone for few hours. I leave crate with door open, bed inside, so most of my dogs go into cage on own free will to nap and just simply have a personal safe area. If we use crates as a punishment or only when we are leaving them alone…they sometimes think of it as a prison, imo. Thanks Rachel!

First, I totally love watching your videos. They are very informative, and actually reassuring in the respect of my puppy’s behavior is not unique, and many other people experience the same issues I have. That being said, I am a first time dog parent. My puppy (Border Collie (mix)), was only 4 weeks old when I got him. Mother was hit by a car. I was hoping you would do some content on raising prematurely weened puppies, and some guidelines. An example might be the use of treats for training and other considerations these puppies might require, being so young, and removed from mom so early.

I am a mother of two human babies also, and completely agree in the concepts benefiting our pets that live indoors. I have never seen any of your videos before but share in every concept you have shared. They absolutely need a space that belongs to them in the house. I would add that some animals like bathrooms. I dont like it.nid rather not share that space. But she finds it really comfortable because of the tile. So we must use our hearts and consider the emotional needs of our pets. Sometimes they choose locations that may require you to adapt. That concept is exactly the same as parenting. As our kids get bigger they sort of help themselves to your space and forget your a person to. Our dogs require relaxed spaces as do humans.

I love to train so, I always had well behaved pups. If one had to be kept separated because of being spayed / neutered or injured I kept a baby gate to close my bedroom off for resting thats were their beds are anyway. Thats were they go when they want to relax anyway. I guess to each their own.

Dogs are individuals. I too have had many dogs and never crated them, until I got my current rescue. She's very comfortable in her crate and sometimes goes in to sleep on her own with the door open. She sleeps in it at night and with a bone if I need to go out, because she's happy and safe there. It's her place.
It started when she first came to me after being abandoned at a Walmart in the middle of the night. She was traumatized and it made her feel secure. She also needed a big orthopedic surgery and there was a several month recovery time. She is a confident, bubbly, dog now, who flies around the dog park, but she's still happy in her crate. (and the couch, big chair, and every other place between me and whatever I'm doing = ).)

When I brought my foster home from the pound, he had lived in a cell for 8 months, and was rubbing his fur off because of being closed up for so long. He was 14 mo old and not yet potty trained. He peed on my rug the first night and again next morning, but I interrupted him the second time and took him outside to finish. I started giving him praise and treats when he let me know he had to go outside. He has not had a single accident since.
I leave the door open to his crate, and even leave treats inside. He NEVER goes in on his own. I did have to leave him in there once for 1-2 hrs and he was tearing it up when I got home. I have been training him to wait in the car for short periods and he's done very well. I have even left him home alone uncrated for up to an hour, and he did not do any destruction. If I have to leave for several hours, I'll just take him to doggy daycare.
Crate training is awesome, but because of his personal history of living in a pound for so long, it's hard for me to see it through. He was crated as a very young pup when he went through obedience training, but the 8 months in a cell afterwards took its toll. He just wants to be by my side. ❤

I think 6 hours is WAY too long to keep a dog imprisoned in a crate.
The only times I crate my dog is after I bathe her for like an hour while her her coat dries and I may create her if I travel with her to visit friends / family and there is a large gathering at the or if someone visiting is afraid of dogs. Even in such instances, I would not create her for for no more than two to three hours.
If I go out and have to leave her home alone, I installed a baby gate if for some reason I don't want her to have access to the entire house. She is also pee pad trained (from when I used to work from the office) so she doesn't have to sit there 4 hours with a full bladder for hours until I get home.
