Duncan’s Entrepreneurial "Theory" Really Winds Piers Up | Dragons’ Den

- Husband and wife duo Vini and Bal Aujla founded Vini & Bal's - a range of chilled Indian curry sauces with a rather short shelf life. Freshness is the guarantee on offer but Piers and Duncan clash over the entrepreneurs' previous business venture.
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Oh my God I remember that. And didn't he fire the two clowns who gave him 79% of their business? lol

12 weeks shelf life for a fresh product like this is very good
I thought the same tbh. I'd be happy if I bought it with 6 months left to go I would be happy 🤷🏾♂️
@@djspark191 firstly, 12 weeks is 3 months, not 6.
Secondly it's 12 weeks shelf life. You're not buying it on the first day after production. It takes at least a couple days for it to reach the stores, then it needs to be moved to the shelves to display. Then it sits there for maybe 8 weeks before you buy it. You get maybe a month before it goes bad if you're lucky

The reason the 'big players' in a space don't tend to make a product like this is that it competes with their own existing products that have a higher profit margin. It has nothing to do with consumer demand - and exactly why we need businesses like this thinking about things other than perpetual financial growth.
What ur fave sauce ?
Not quite.. The big players actually "rebrand" or simply buy out smaller companies like this without calling it the big brand name. Think Kellogs, Nestle, P&G they own it all in every niche, without you knowing they do.

@@BrownBrown270 where did you hear this?
The reasons why fresh Indian sauces are not stocked up on super markets :
People love making curries and to play with spices and herbs trying to create their very own recipe or recreate a traditional recipe but with a twist.
If they feel like eating curry but don't feel like cooking, they order a take away from their favourite Indian place.
They use jars of curry to store I'm the cupboard to use as emergency food to cook maybe for the kids after a hard day at work or just simply to use as quick meal. So shelflife is very important.
why is it different in case of Italian saucers tough?
@@vibovitold you find fresh Italian sauces because although it's easy to make a simple tomato sauce for example, it's seen like a sort of emergency food when you don't know what to cook or simply too lazy to make a sauce. Again , making a curry it's like a pleasure for people.
@@vibovitold because the type of people who historically cook fresh are not cooking Indian food, they're cooking classic european food. Thankfully this has changed somewhat now.
I would love to have this in my supermarket. Would be a go-to whenever I need some time saved.

But the deal from Piers was actually a great deal and 30% is very reasonable.

its hard for me to say without the business experience, but we hear alot about supermarket shelves, being very competitive, and yet when you go to a supermarket, they have an Argos in them, they have shelving that is more of a visual display, than the standard racks. It could have actually been the pressure of the den or even tears of joy that they had got an offer for their sauce.
