The sound of Glass breaking startles Mia and Ethan. Mai looks down seems red spot on shoulder as he touches it. Ethan gasps "mai get down."
Shocked pikachu face mai gets down crawling under table with Ethan. Silenced gun fire rains through the house as ethan asks if mai is ok just as a flash bang comes through the window and all at once a loud wood shattering sound is heard. It's the front door being breached. As soon as the gun stops Ethan looks to see bright lights and 4 or 5 men charging into the living room.as the table is flipped over and Ethan is struck and pulled away from mai. He sees the out line of a man with a 50 cal. Handgun point it at mai. As Ethan gets his vision back he sees mai on her kness. "Ethan?" Mai said panting and scared. As a flash comes from the muzzle "NOOOOO" Ethan screams. Elbowing the man holding him as the man unloads his gun into his wife. Ethan charging the man only for the man to grab him and take off his mask. "Damn it, ethan your not suppose to be here." even in Ethan frenzy he knows that voice and what's more Rose's crying getting louder every fleeting second. "What? What the fuck chris? Why? Ethan asks. No sooner get his question out a soldier comes around the corner with rose exclaiming to Chris "sir we got her." Ethan sees red and his grip on Chris tightens. The fuck you do. I'll kill you for this you son of a bitch!" Ethan stearing at chris wild eyed and panicked. Ethan goes for chris gun."STOP God damn it Ethan I'm sorry it had to be like this, just claim......." chris says as his commerads hush toward them. All the sudden Ethan drops to his knees not even about to hear what chris is saying to him. Pain shooting though is whole body. A soldier gun butted Ethan in the back of the head twice. Ethan falls to the floor unconscious. Shit.....just realized idk where to go with why tf chris would take them all straight to mother crow bitch.....

23:30 Honestly, "Where's Rose?" "Why are you doing this?" "What's going on?" and "What the hell is that thing?" are all extremely valid questions at every point in the story.
That's what I was thinking
Now an actual thing I'll point out is this so in seven he has momments that felt unrealistic. Like the jack line and the whole part where he finds an officer and acted like he was about to turn in an assignment late and not like he was kidnapped and the final act forgot ethan isn't a super hero. But the first half he atleast sort of felt like he had a tough act to not seem like he was weak or to boost his confidence and it slips when he is in danger. Which tbh is probably being charitable to ethan but still its best i got.and when it's focused in the horror he was realistic in terms of reaction but the problem with Ethan is if you remove the obvious reactions any person would have or the tough guy act he has almost no character he is the ordinary Joe who loves his family dude.
Eight had less one liners and he has the right to be confused and whiney it's just he doesn't have a charater he is just generic outside of that at best and at worst he is bland

ethan was so cool in 7 because he was an ordinary guy who was forced to roleplay a badass. but that scene when you first get the pistol after being attack and he says "okay, fine" is his coolest line

I remember when Re7 came out, one of the criticisms that people were giving it was that Ethan was a bland protagonist because he didn’t react to anything that was going on. This was probably why they had him react to literally everything in 8.

That and the lack of enemy variety were the only complaints I’ve personally heard about 7. I never heard anyone say it was too scary.
@@asianafghan131 yea, 7 had a really weak final act. Poopy boat section with the same old goo enemies you’ve been fighting for the past few hours, a boring mines section shooting gallery that’s not visually interesting, and a final boss that might as well have been a cutscene. Village improves upon all of that.
The factory introduces new enemy types, the Chris shooting gallery section looks visually interesting with how chaotic the village is compared to when you first arrived and the final boss isn’t a glorified cutscene where you just stand at the back of the map and shoot at a fleshy wall monster.
@@spengebabswagpants6768 Resident evil 8 is far inferior to 7. The mold may have gotten old but they were far more freaky than the enemies from the village. Resident evil 7 accomplished what resident evil 8 couldn't, and that was to actually be scary
@@tastycookiechip The mold monsters were really well implemented in the basement, but by the time you got to the boat section, you’ve already murdered dozens of them, so they kinda lose their scare factor and end up being super predictable. At least 8 and 2 remake introduces new enemy types to keep things interesting, imagine if every single enemy in dead space was a regenerator, It would have gotten stale after a couple of hours despite it being terrifying initially.
My biggest problem with Ethan was that he didn't have the same level of one liners that he had in 7. God, I love that chainsaw fight.

i think its pretty reasonable to ask a lot of questions when your wife just got murdered, your baby kidnapped and you're suddenly thrusted into a gruesome fairytale world where you have to go on a quest to save your daughter
exactly! the man is fighting werewolves, vampires and robot-zombies to save his daughter who's been chopped into pieces and stored in flasks. I find it quite believable he wants to know what's going on.
You all seem to miss the fairly obvious point - he's not able to make any inferences, or learn anything from context clues like the actions and explanations of other characters, documents that he reads, or the environment. He never puts two and two together. He just keeps encountering clues and explanations and going "Duhhh... Wot?". Act Man was right - it's genuinely like he's high the whole game. Or he's just a moron.

I liked Ethan in RE7 because his lack of reaction was funny and when he did say something it was badass because he was just a normal guy. I liked Ethan in RE8 for his constant reactions, and his absolute unending determination to save his daughter even after he found out her BODY PARTS were SCATTERED IN GLASS CONTAINERS. I think I like Ethan because he’s a ridiculous “character”. Even with the overreactions, somehow he still came off as nonchalant in RE8 which I enjoyed. I do like the detail of Ethan learning how to properly use weapons for self defense in RE8, that was cool. He’s like an extreme parody of a person. That’s why I like him.
I always assumed that he was just like that cause he was a molded and because he only had his memories but technically he ISNT Ethan. He's a clone of Ethan. Kind of like White vision with his memories. They are interchangeable but one comes before the other.

Ethan sacrificing himself at the end makes sense cause he was decomposing anyway might as well go out like a hero saving his family and Chris and his squad
And he was holding Chris back from escaping with Rose because he was wounded and couldn’t move fast enough, so for me it made absolute sense. If he had stayed with them, they wouldn’t have been able to escape from the Mutamycete (or whatever it was) on time
I was looking for this comment, he died when the megamycete died. That’s not a plot hole at all. When it was destroyed his mold body fell apart.😊
Okay but why did he need to carry the remote detonator closer to the chaos? All he was doing was MASSIVELY increasing the chances that he would fall and become unable to finish the job. Just let Chris - the man who has much greater odds of survival and will know when safe distance has been established - hit the button.
Ethan hits the button because someone on the writing staff though it would be "cool". It makes very little sense.
Chris and his team could have found a way to put Ethan back together. The BSAA might have had samples of the mold. Why not give Ethan a little dose of it and he'll be good as new?

There's no one in the RE franchise that gets more injured (and walks it off) than Ethan does. And that's why we love him! I think he's a fantastic character
Chris literally punches boulders, and Leon has had way more intense near death experiences. And this is on top of them having personality. Ethan only walks out it off cause of BS mushroom powers.

Miranda is surprisingly a difficult boss to beat in Standard mode. I died many times. Better conserve ammo for final boss fight.

@@ishitrealbad3039 on village of shadows even with the infinte ammo STAKE maxed out, miranda is still super difficult because of the amount of goddamn hp she has. it took me SEVERAL phases with the highest dps weapon in the game to kill her along with like 6 healing items
i was playing in standard mode and to my surprise all the bosses are very easy to beat unlike RE7. the journey to pursue each boss a very challenging but once you met the boss its otherwise.
Miranda ridiculously for final boss was very easy to kill. Before playing this game I thought Lady D is the final boss. IMO this game didnt do justice to Ethan (they put Chris for cover) and Lady D because they’re using her too much for marketing end up she is the first one got killed by Ethan.
i played on standard and took no damage i just used a rifle and killed her quickly, it was a really bad boss
I find it hilarious that Ethan gets his hand chopped off and puts it back on and never asks “what the heck is wrong with my body.”
The dude already experienced that shit a lot in Resident Evil 7 and has probably come to terms with it at this point. That, and... well... the fact as to what he is in Resident Evil 8.

Happens twice in RE7. Hand and a leg reattached. He's used to it by now. I started laughing at all the various hand-torture events. It really felt like capcom took the complaint that ethan's hands kept getting mutilated in RE7 and turned it into a running gag in 8.
In re7 he's made to believe the healing potion is doing it

At the end, Ethan acknowledges that he is slowing down Chris and Rose, as soon as he takes the detonator from Chris, the bridge breaks in half (from the megamycete) which shows that they probably would have all died if Ethan didn’t take the detonator because he was slowing them down. Also, I think that because he found out that he had been dead since re7, and that he was mostly made of mild, he might have thought it would be better to actually die
Ethan is already dying as they leave, you can see him slowly turning into that stone shit. Even if he had left with them, he would have died almost (if not) immediately.

There is no reason Ethan needed to take the detonator. HE is slowing them down, the detonator is not. It weighs like 2 pounds. Taking it closer to the chaos just massively increased the chances it would fail to work, or that Ethan's body would fail before he was able to hit the trigger. Chris should have kept the detonator because a) he had much higher chances of surviving until the button could be pressed and b) he would know exactly when himself and Rose had reached a safe distance.
It's just a contrived, silly action moment. It's bizarre to watch you guys defend this.

RE5 was fun as fuck if you had someone to play it with.
Not to mention its story and lore actually has some value to the franchise, but who cares about the origins of the progenitor virus and whatever happens with Wesker after CV, skip 5 amirite 😆
im playing it solo and its still pretty fun. i dont see why people complain about Sheva AI all the time i havent had any issues so far in the first 2 chapters

30:25 honestly though not telling Ethan because he didn’t want him involved is definitely something Chris would do. This is the guy who is relying on Leon to continue the Redfield lineage despite the fact Jill loves him
My understanding was that they couldn't trust Ethan because they had no way to know whether he had been compromised, hence the entire reason they kidnapped him in the first place. Why the hell else would they take Rose and Ethan, if they genuinely thought they had eliminated Miranda. I think it's honestly reasonable to withhold information from Ethan after they had just discovered Mia was basically replaced by a body snatcher.
The way Ethan reacted to Chris shooting his wife was as if Chris took the last pizza slice of Ethan's favorite pizza toppings. If you look at the behind the scenes of the game though, the voice actor actually reacted a lot more angrier and more believable. I dont know why they changed it.

I don't think it was impossible for him to be stabilized, even if it wasn't, it would have been more organic for him to die on the helicopter saying goodbye to Mia and Rose than just blowing himself up to look cool.
Ethan was a bit cooler in RE7.

I just started to play this game and one major difference was Ethan’s personality, he was kind of a bland character in Re7 and having him be more aware of his situation makes Village better, also the fact that you can craft Shotgun Ammo now basically makes you OP

he's still bland as fuck, his face is never shown and he blurts out one liners thinking he sounds badass all the time, when they are just corny and cringe
Just played through the game, and fairly certain the reason Ethan stayed to pull off the explosion at the end was because they said this Village was the source of the mold from RE7, they also said that the mold was the only thing keeping Ethan alive at this point, meaning that when they destroyed it Ethan would have died anyway. Which is why he stayed. So there ACTUALLY WAS a point to his sacrifice at the end.
Not necessarily since Jack was still alive after the mold was destroyed in re7 and rose was still alive at the end of 8. Ethan sacrificed himself cause he was gonna die anyway and didn't want to hold everybody back. Miranda took way too much out of him during their fight and when she ripped his heart out. The only big story hiccup I found in 8 was why Miranda split rose up in the first place. I guess it was to test her fortitude while also ensuring the death of all the other four lords via Ethans hands.
@@thesnatcher3616 I suppose, the storylines of Resident Evil games and the internal logic that they operate by are not always consistent or even sensical at times lol. I think that was simply for gameplay purposes so Ethan would acquire something from each of the lords as he/you defeated them but if you think about it, why would Miranda split up Rose in the first place? Why do that and give a part of Rose to each of the lords to begin with? When her goal was to perform the ritual that would resurrect her daughter Eva. Which she probably could have performed in the amount of time it took Ethan to go from the crashed car to the Village. It doesn't add up, but hey the story needs to happen and it the gameplay has to be tied into the narrative somehow so that's what Capcom went with I guess. Add to the fact of Chris' needlessly hostile and secretive behavior towards Ethan. Again didn't really make sense but the story needed to happen and that's what they chose to make sure that it did.
@@MrDueltube Chris thought Ethan might have been infected as well and didn't want to take any chances. But he later owns up and says he probably should have told him anyway. Not to mention there was probably a want to not bring up old memories of the events in re7. Ethan himself did not want to be in a situation like that again(his line in Luiza's house after escaping it for example, he says "WHY the FUCK is this happening again"). It was Chris's failed attempt at damage control that didn't work anyway cause Ethan still ended up in the village and tried to rescue his daughter on his own. And he acknowledges that. Was it a bit stupid of Chris? Yeah. But that was sort of the point anyway so that didn't bother me much either. But I get your complaint. Re8's story isn't some masterpiece but I thought it was a fun engaging story with a compelling beggining and end that integrated nicely with the stellar gameplay/level design. It did what it needed to do and the actual lore behind the village itself is really interesting. It's great fun to try to piece everything together and see how it all applies to the larger story at hand, which was sort of how re2 worked. Honestly, my biggest gripes was the fact that while the gameplay for each section was solid, Moreau and Donna just didn't say or do as much as they could have. I'll give Donna a pass though cause her background lore is arguably the most interesting and she's supposed to be this quiet mystery lady that communicates via Angie and the hallucinations, but Moreau really should have gotten more time. His section overall felt really short and the buildup just didn't land as well as it could have in spite of the good boss fight. He barely has any lines of dialogue compared to Heisenberg or Alcina and he doesn't even have a good excuse for it like Donna.
@thesnatcher3616 Yeah, no, I get what you mean. Before playing it, Village to me looked like a great game, I was very excited. An almost Van Helsing vibe mixed with Resident Evil, improved combat from RE7, and absolutely jaw-dropping graphics. When I finally played it a few months back, I found all of those things to be true, yet it still wasn't quite the game I hoped it would be. The story is solid enough but feels a bit sloppy, and some spots do feel rushed, which robs them of the impact they could have had. Even if there are in-game explanations for Chris' behavior, it still was stupid to me personally. Mother Miranda, as a main villain, too fell flat as she has very little development and that weird retcon that she was the one who inspired Osweld Spencer to create the Umbrella corporation and the Umbrella logo is actually copied from this ancient Village too is just odd to me. Guess they are trying to tie these newer RE games (7 & Village) to the rest of the franchise. I get that, but I think there were better ways. It may sound like I hate the game, I actually enjoyed it quite a bit, but these issues dragged down the experience for me. So after having played them both I prefer RE7.

I think the most common "problem" people had with RE8 was the fact, that the castle portion wasnt the entire game or in general relatively short, despite it being so heavily (and solely) promoted.
Replaying RE7 I noticed that the Baker estate is only about 1/2 - 2/3 of the game; but it didnt seem to bother people as much, likely because the promo material never made it seem like it will be the only part of the game; while they did do that with the castle and Lady Dimitrescu in RE8.
Just a note about Ethans Death:
He was gonna die anyway. He lost his heart. His body was falling apart if you look at his hand. He was a dead man anyway and only got back up from the lost of his heart through sheer willpower and determination. That’s why he sacrificed himself.

@@rear5118 Chris was carying both Ethan and Rose. They needed to escape, Ethan realized he's going to die anyway and made a smart decision to let Chris escape with Rose.
I don’t think he realized the mold that’s keeping Ethan alive came from the megamycete. So if it dies so does he.
RE4 worked for me for the same reason half life 1 did. The first part of the game keeps you starved of supplies just enough to feel some survival horror pressure, and also to make you feel hopeless against the horrors of the unknown. It establishes the threat well and forces you to think creatively with positioning, shooting molotovs and lanterns to thin out the numbers, and use the enemy's own traps against them.
The castle section is sort of a puzzle solver with a lot of backtracking and "arena" sections. It also rewards exploration and backtracking with treasure and weapons. Again the gameplay and the setting fit together perfectly.
Then by the island you're in a power fantasy action film, loaded with ammo and overpowered guns. It's all the more rewarding because you remember being bullied by these guys in the village section and then get to dish out payback. It's like Luke in return of the Jedi. He got his ass handed to him for 2 movies before he got to be a bamf.
In other words, the quality of the game goes down as soon as you leave the village.

I honestly don't agree at all with the surprisingly wide spread notion that RE4's quality goes down after the village, because many of the best and most creatively designed arenas and boss fights take place in either the castle or the island. When it comes to the atmosphere? Sure, I can totally see that, but the gameplay stays consistently great until the end, imo.
If you think about it, that cutscene where we first meet all the villains perfectly summarizes the game:
- Heisenberg and Lady Dimistrescu steal the show
- The other two mostly fill up space
- Ethan tries (and fails) to deliver a sarcastic one-liner, because everyone loved it when Leon did that in RE4
- Miranda intervenes only at the very end to remind everyone that she's the boss, technically
Mother Miranda splits rose in for pieces so she can test how strong is she as a vessel by reconecting in megamycete
The fat man merchant is such a quirky, worthwhile addition to the game. He’s such a great friend to Ethan with a whimsical aura of mystery surrounding him.

im 50/50 on Ethan's dialogue, his bewilderness about wtf is happening seems not out of place.
However, they missed the opportunity to make him more of an alpha.... like he's been through a lot in 7 and no dialogue was give in the sense of "oh shit, here we go again".
Like he as a character should know what he is capable of and than he has a chance. But they sort of pussified him a little, it was as if the writers/devs completely ignored Ethan's character development in 7.
Kind of like as if he was written for an entirely new audience, people who didn't play 7.

Ethan is an alpha dude. Just because he doesn't make jokes about bingo and punches boulders doesn't mean that he's weak. Ethan was an average Joe thrown into the Baker house, which was extremely traumatizing. After he gets Mia out of there his primary focus is to safely enjoy his family. Then "Mia" gets shot and Rose is kidnapped and basically butchered. Ethan was given some military training when he got relocated after RE7, sure. But that doesn't equate to him being like Leon and Chris that are apart of larger organizations, having way more experience/extensive training and can call for backup if needed. Ethan is constantly outnumbered and facing enemies larger than himself most of RE8. And some of them have freaky ass abilities, plus he's all alone. He ain't got no S.T.A.R.S. coming to save him. He's under the impression that the people who were supposed to be protecting him killed his wife and took his daughter. And the only thing keeping him going was the slim hope that he could save his daughter by collecting all her body parts somehow. Writing him the exact same as other RE protagonist just doesn't make sense given who he is and what he's been through.
Don't understand why male protagonists need to be badass "alphas." What makes Ethan stand out from the rest of the RE characters is that he's a normal dude who is completely out of his depth. We already have the badassery with Chris Redfield in the game, anyway.
@soap_bubbles If we're portraying men then I think a masculine portrayal is best. But masculinity doesn't have to be like Clint Eastwood style everytime. A man's actions speak louder than anything. And Ethan to me is as masculine as it gets even though he's more on the humble or normal side.

Perhaps Ethan, instead of developing into a badass, becomes more distressed because he has PTSD or gets anxious and worried because he has a child to look after? Not everyone responds to trauma in the same way, and frankly it gets boring seeing the same "Clueless guy to total badass" transition. We've already had this happen to both Chris and Leon.
In my very unnecessary opinion I actually like Ethan a lot in Village, sure he ask a shit ton of questions but I don’t mind them at all, I think my deal is that after Re7 I’m just sort of happy to play as someone familiar and knowing the shit he went through the last game made me love the consistency he has with bringing up the events from Re7, so for me I like Ethan. I know a lot of people don’t but it’s just my opinion on why I can still like a character others can see annoying, which I do see the reasons and even understand them, so yeah thanks for taking the time to read my view of Ethan Winters and I’m glad I got to see yours.
Ethan is great, I'm glad to get away from the old characters and play someone with some consistency between the two games like you said. Top tier protagonist in my mind.

The story feels generic like B-movies with a interesting premise and characters are interesting but they get no screen time.
A lot of feels rushed, my only wish was that Capcom had given more time to developers.
Ethan is generic do-gooder character with no third or second dimensions, but I do feel bad for him and I feel personally blame Mia for a lot of events that happened.

I agree though that many portions feel a bit rushed. I really would've liked to see the fishing village done well, have some freaky fish-people, innsmouth style. Beneviento house could've lasted much longer especially since it's the only "scary" section.
Ethan is a better protagonist than most people give him credit for. I don't get the hate. Every other protagonist in the series is just "action hero do-gooder," Leon is one of the most popular and he has the depth of a puddle. Ethan feels more grounded in reality, he pulls off the cheesy "don't really care" attitude (the one-liners are so bad they're good), and the explanation for his insanely strong ability to regenerate isn't forced and ties in well with RE7. They revealed what made him so strong, and immediately kill him off afterwards, which I think is the right move. I honestly believe, and this isn't to sound spiteful, that most people dislike him simply because he isn't part of the "original" cast. If he had existed before Resident Evil 6, I don't think he'd get any hate.

Funny enough, I feel like Ethan had more badass one liners in 7 than in 8. Like, sure he didn't talk much, and didn't seem to react a whole lot, even when he literally loses limbs, but when he did speak, usually is was cool. I do agree with you on 8 wanting to take itself too seriously. Part of that could be that 7 actually managed to strike a good balance between being cheesy, and knowing when to take things more seriously (especially with Jack's speech to Ethan towards the end of that game). 8 seems like it wants to have the same story structure as 7, but with 4's gameplay loop. It wants to have a sincerely good story, but it also wants balls to the wall intense action sequences, with a rouge gallery of villains you must defeat. Like, the premise of 8 is fundamentally ridiculous, but the writers want you to take it so seriously, and that's just way too hard to do.
Though it seems like in general with this current era of RE Engine RE games, it seems like they are trying to take their stories a little more seriously. REmake 2 nails balancing the tension with some camp, REmake 3 seems to go in the more cheesy action flick direction, and I haven't played REmake 4 yet. So I can't comment on that one lol
I guess what I'm trying to say, is that where early RE games put way more stock in the gameplay, the remakes, along with 7 and 8, want to be interactive movies almost.
Today I beat this game. I had so much fun. The horror and suspense was great and the action just damn good. It had everything and I really enjoyed it. Great game.

Ethan is the average Joe not having a clue what’s going on and looking for an answer making him much more relatable in a sense we are asking questions aswell whereas Leon is the big bad chat who cracks jokes In life threatating moments.

From what I remember, Ethan's mold body is a result of Evelyn from RE7. Its stated in game by Evelyn's shade when Ethan revives that Ethan actually died during RE7 by daddy Baker and that Ethan has been dead for years now. Now if you read the notes near the end of the game, you would know that Evelyn was created using some of Mother Miranda's DNA so by proxy, Ethan was created by Mother Miranda.
Its pretty safe to assume that Ethan began to crumble at the end because he killed off the source of the mold that created him and without it, he was on borrowed time hence why Ethan said to Chris after the fight "We dealt each other the final blow." This is why Ethan chose to stay behind and trigger the switch. He likely didn't want to see Mia grieving for him as his body disintegrated before her.

mia we see at the beginning is miranda. who knows when the switch-a-roo happened? maybe she suggested moving to a country or a province near the village with the castle to Ethan herself, thats why their place of residence is so close to the castle; okay, we established that the castle is relatively close to where the beginning of the game takes place
now, for the second part, why exactly did the truck crash so close to the village: a) who cares? b) the crash happened because miranda started acting uppity and busted out; maybe she sensed like "oh shit we are driving near the castle, time to start bustin' out" and thats how she did it

I think ethan is a great protangonist. Hes no leon or jill but he is compelling and i like how the story wrapped back at how much abuse he can take.
I played RE 4 in VR on my first play through and I didn't think it was scary. I think them taking out the OG mechanic of having to stand still while aiming/shooting definitely took away the suspense.

I just love the use of classic monster style enemy. Lady D is obviously a stand in for Dracula. Fishman is a play on swamp thing. Heisenbergs army is literally an army of Frankensteins monsters. Then you have werewolves everywhere all set in a classic monster village. If 7 was texas chainsaw massacre, the 8 is a universal monster homage and I love it.
Almost all of the monsters in RE8 were inspired mid-europeans horror stories. Lady D is obvious reference to Elisabeth Bathory, And Heisenberg is a nod to father of electro-magnetism besides Frankenstein Soldat monsters.
Now I kinda want the next re to be inspired by the thing or invasion of the body snatcher

I think the Ethan lines were made for him to sound more like a normal dude. The difference between Ethan and the other characters such as Leon, Chris, Jill, etc is that Ethan is not a badass. He is afraid, he doesn't want to continue, he still can't overcome his Louisiana trauma. While the others act more badass and determined. He is a normal dude, and a normal dude would ask a lot of questions to himself (be it because he genuinely asks the question or just to keep his sanity in check since he is lonely most of the game). When he is with other people he talks more (at least from what I got), and it made it feel more human. NOT more likable, but more human.
I could see that working, but I didn't have a personal connection to Ethan because of the perspective and bad dialogue. The whole "Normal Guy" think would be a breath of fresh air for Resident Evil
I think even if your not trying to make a badass dude, the constant pointing out the obvious and the overly cheesy one liners and all that doesn't add that grounded relationship of a normal guy with a love for his daughter that he's trying to save her despite going through some shit.
@@TheActMan I couldn't agree more. I believe Ethan was their attempt at a "Normal Guy" protagonist but they kind of butchered it with poor dialogue and some weak voice acting. From the way 8 ends it looks like Rose will be the next face of Resident Evil which I'm excited for. However, her having powers means they're probably going back to having a more badass main character. The story of 8 feels like its purpose was to give them a clean slate. Resident Evil 9 will probably be something completely new, kind of like how 7 was.

The only problem is that the whole "Normal Guy" aspect is kind of moot at this point. It's a tactic that can only be done once, as the character has adapted to the situation by the end of the game. Ethan, having seen and experienced all of the shit in RE7 including but not limited to: having numerous limbs chopped off and reattached, watching a guy blow his own head off only to come back twice, seeing his wife turn into some freakish monster and try to kill him over and over again, fighting a giant horde of zombies mutated from random people, having to kill a giant tentacle monster with a pistol, etc... You can't really have him do that again in the next game.
Re7 was too scary? Isn't that the point? Imagine if water parks start removing pools for being too wet. It's incomprehensible.

They explained why Rose was severed in four pieces. Reason was to test her regenation. Then Miranda gave the pieces to the lords to test Ethan and ultimately kill all the lords using Ethan.
And second point. This game didn't reveal that Ethan has regenation powers, it was revealed already in the 7. This game revealed that he was dead from the beginning, he wasn't human anymore. He is just mold with Ethan's memories.
Thank God someone said it.
It's scary and also sad that Ethan is dead and there's a mold form trying so hard to keep his legacy going, without even realizing that it itself isn't even the real Ethan. A tragedy in both equal parts sad and disturbing. The story has a lot of issues, but I felt that the bit with Ethan's regeneration powers was pretty straight forward and the twist about Ethan being a mold form came out of nowhere and hit real hard. That's how you subvert people's expectations.
Is that why he decides to kill himself in the end?

The reason Ethan went in to sacrifice himself in the end, sure, Chris's line wasn't true at all. But Ethan was gonna die from the death of the Megmycete anyway, he didn't just have regenerating abilities, he was literally a molded, just an exact human replica. Therefore, Mia would've just had to watch him crumble to bits after destroying the megamycete.

@@Deathmare235 Mia wasn't Molded, from what I read. Eva liked her, so she gave her the regen abilities among other stuff while breaking her mind for control. Ethen was killed by Jack in the beginning of 7, and Mia convinced Eva to bring him back with the promise he'd join as a servant, like the Baker family. But he resisted her mind controlling effects like Zoe did. And now that the thing that created Eva, and all the other monsters, ie: the Baker Family, Lady D, Eva, etc was destroyed, Ethan would die too.
@@shockmazta3116 also to add some more info for anyone curious. A molded, like Ethan is essentially a reanimated corpse. The Baker family and Mia were alive when they were infected. We see Mia and Jack get cured in 7 and they go right back to being normal people, if Ethan got cured he would die.
There was no way for Ethan to survive this game given the enemy.

@@nathangothan601 the Souls series are some of the best made games ever made lol. Ppl die a lot because of how well made the enemy AI is and how polished and technical they are, especially the bosses. Elden Ring is the best modern game ever made imo.
Ethan’s regeneration ability was finally at its end after his fight with Miranda that’s why his hand turned into dust and without his regen he would of most likely die anyway since he died three years ago so choosing to go out with a bang and take out that witch bitch for trying to take his family away from him.
Yet None of the enemies in the game act like your dead, nor does Lady D react when drinking dead blood. Why would Jack infect Ethan if Eves goal was just to kill you? They added this twist last minute to give it a false sense of meaning.
@@masterzombie161 I mean the bioengineered mutamycete in RE7 probably doesn't discern who it wants to infect lol. There are no other humanoid enemies in RE7 because there were no humans in nowheresville Louisiana to begin with. Here in the VILLage, every person became infected, which is why there's so many. Remember how Zoe almost died because she got infected too? Everyone in the vicinity got infected, only the cop was probably eaten by the infected Bakers, while the ship people probably got absorbed by Eveline?
As for why big mommy milkers didn't detect the mutamycete in Ethan, it's probably because it was such a different strain (the bioengineered E-001 variant) vs. the original, untouched variant from this village. It's probably also why none of the enemies detect you as infected.
That being said, it makes no sense for Ethan to kill himself like that. Even if his regen was gone, he could still get a heart transplant? Maybe get some world-class treatment from a BSAA hospital? Some kind of artificial heart at the very least - it's Resident Evil, anything's possible lol.
Though I can't say I'm gonna miss Ethan _at all_

Ethan was actually dying at the end, even his regeneration was failing and he was calcifying, so dying to blow the thing was like just a way to die faster.
I never really understood why it starts failing at that moment. Is there an explanation i’m missing?

@@cosmokicksass I think it was failing much earlier - when his heart got ripped out. He kept going on pure andrenaline rush and after everything, well, the andrenaline was gone, mission accomplished and so the determination faded.

Ethan was slowing down Chris and it was getting dangerous, and since he was going to die anyway he wanted to offer himself as a sacrifice.
@@cosmokicksass Just before Ethan wakes up outside the village, he has that vision of a fight he and Mia have - he assures her that Rose will be fine, but then Mia says something to the effect of "I'm worried about you". I think even she knew something was up at the time before all this insanity went down. That said, all the stuff going on in the village probably sped things up.

I’m pretty sure the reason Ethan killed himself in the end was due to the fact that he was dying. The mold was barely keeping him alive at that point.

I think they should allow the enemies into the save areas if you hang out near the door kinda teasing them. They should be able to pull you out of room at least.
