I adopted a 5 year old Cane Corso female, and the shelter wanted to reinforce to me that I would have to pay to return her, she was returned twice.....and it ended there. I've had her for 3.5 years now - and she is the BEST most beautiful dog ever. I took her to a trainer because she weighed more than me.....but I am the alpha, and she is the BABY!! Adopt don't shop!!!!

I adopted a pitbull from our local shelter. Brought her home, she ate windowsills, holes in the wall, the futon in the room. I ordered all natural dog calming pills from Amazon. She was able to calm down nicely, and is now a goofy love bug ! Smart as neck which is probably one reason she was so stressed ! Great dog, all she needed was stress free help. Don't take on the dog unless you are really going to "rescue" them. I am loved !! ❤❤❤❤❤

We adopted a dog from a place that had a whole large litter in one small run. They warned us that she always would escape. They told us to keep her locked up. When we got her home we thought we had made a mistake. She was going crazy in the crate. We live on a farm so we decided that we had to let her go and let the chips fall where they may. We had her for 12 years. She never left our farm on her own once. She was one of the best dogs we have ever had.

I adopted a Chihuahua. The shelter gave her a chip, spayed her and did all the right things. Thanks, guys! But they didn’t tell us, Ginger had been returned to the shelter 3 times, and so nervous about being abandoned. My husband is a mechanic so was test driving a vehicle. He just scooped her up, put her in the vehicle and drove down the road. Ginger started shaking and threw up. Come to find out, she thought he was taking her back to the pound. Now we know. We put her in and harness her up and talk excitedly about where we’re going and what she will get to do. Lots of love! 💖

My son adopted a rescue dog who had been adopted as a puppy, then returned to shelter three years later (we don't know why, but it was a few months into Covid). To say she had abandonment issues is an understatement. She recognizes the expressway the shelter was off of and is always a nervous wreck when we drive on that stretch.

He sleeps in my bed when he wants and has bad social anxiety since we Lost his brother when they were 9 week's old .
There highly intelligent. And alot of people get them and I don't Care who says thing's happen.

My very abused 10 YO took almost 8 mos to even want to sit w/me on the couch. Bit everyday out of fear.
Once that milestone was passed, things went much smoother, a lot more quickly.
Unfortunately, he got a rare, aggressive cancer from lack of neutering (I had it done, but was warned it could be too little, too late) & Vet care. He was given just 2 weeks, but made it 3 mos! His fighting spirit never left, even trying to attack the Vet!
We take solace in knowing that poor little dog finally knew what it was to be loved, not beaten & what a dogs life should have been.

My dog has been through serious trauma and will still charge me due to his guarding nature. He's 90 lbs and was a difficult situation to deal with initially.
After 4 years, I can't imagine my life without him and he's an amazing dog. Like all people, each dog has something about them that is unique or may require extra time/training. It's absolutely worth it

We have experienced the same thing with our rescue. We loved her from the beginning but she took a bit to trust us. She still has some issues but she is so much happier and that is all we wanted. We got her in January 2020 which turned out to be great timing because we were all home all day as she got more comfortable. Three years later, she is now great with us (most people) but she has some problems with anxiety and can be aggressive with other animals. We just work around her issues and treasure her. If we had just reacted to her behavior when we got her and returned her because she took extra time and care, we would’ve missed out. Everyone, people and animals, needs an adjustment period to recover from trauma. Thank you for supporting animals.

A crate trained dog has a refuge, their own bedroom and will be far less distressed when they visit the groomer, travel by aeroplane or anywhere in a crate. It is also a safer way to have your dog in the car. If you can’t see beyond you own human experience of crates maybe you aren’t qualified to own a dog

Rocky, I have to tell ya... this episode made me cry. I could feel the pain that that big, beautiful puppy was enduring after being returned to the shelter. All he wanted was love.. to love & to be loved. I cried because he was given back (like he wasn't able to know someone ELSE didn't want him) and I cried even more when he was adopted by that family. I pray they love that big boy with everything they have cuz I know he's gonna be giving them even more than that. Thank you for all you do.

3 years ago I went to my local shelter to shop for a dog. I was introduced to a 6 yr old pittie mix that nobody wanted. We were placed in a room so we can get to know each other. She was all over me like a cheap suit when the lady from the shelter came into the room to see how we were doing. Abby did not leave my side, she was asking me in the best way she knew for me to take her home with me. She's been with me since that first meeting. I believe she picked me. In the 3 years we've been together, she has never done anything wrong in the house and when she thinks she has, she apologizes in the cutest ways. Abby is my 4th shelter dog and every one of them have been sweethearts. Abby is now in training to get her certificate to be able to visit nursing homes and children's hospitals.

I was just trying to get him out to play, he was so anxious, but he needed love. I looked in his eyes and with sarcasm said “ oh I don’t like you” and gave him a kiss. his big puppy eyes stole my heart. I fostered him, foster failed. He never left. He indeed picked me. He is spoiled rotten.

These animals know where they are and what's happening. Logan has tears in his eyes. Poor baby. I rescued my baby from the shelter. He had so many issues. He was horribly abused. He even had food aggression. It's been almost 3 years and he has come such a long way. He went from food aggression and attacked me the first month I had him, to now free-feeding and sharing a bowl with his brother. I'm so proud of him. It really does take a special kind of patience to help these babies work through their issues and let the dog come through that they really are.

I have a cattle dog x corgi. She was abandoned in an apartment, and then returned to the shelter three times in a year. She looks like a little teddy bear, but it's a working beast. She's hard, and a one person dog who demands partnership rather than a "master". She's the best dog I could want, but it took months with for her to learn to allow herself to love. Now she glows with love and trust.

I rescued two pit bull, Sharpae, and Dachsund. They were under 2 weeks old and didn't even have their eyes open good. They both had Parvo and one had an ulcer on her eye. But they were so bonded. I got them up to the point that they were healthy and ready for adoption and they would scream when seperated. I tried to explain that they were so bonded that they spit in their crate with their laws around each other but the rescue facility said they don't adopt siblings out together because it causes behavior problems. Well, it wasn't a foster fail, it was an adopt success. They are both with me, a little over a year old and happy, healthy, and very interactive. Completely blind he escaped and walked 40 miles back to my house and made it safe BLIND. We kept him until we moved to the states from Europe and gave him to our neighbor until he passed a year later from old age. Completely healthy. His name was Djeki. RIP best friend.
