The Cane Corso, otherwise known as the Italian Mastiff, is the descendant of dogs used by the ancient Romans in warfare.
For centuries the dogs have been kept on farms and used as catch dogs for cattle and swine.
They have also been used for boar hunting and to guard property, livestock, and the family home.
The question arises : What It’s Like to Own a Cane Corso today ?
In this video we invited an owner and also an expert of cane cotso dogs, the Jason Corey. We hope you enjoyed the video.

When I was a boy there was a neighbor family who owned a Cane Corso. His name was Rocky. Their property had no fence and Rocky was never chained. Rocky liked children. We would peak around the corner of their garage, make sure the owners weren’t watching, and then call Rocky. He would accompany us from morning until late afternoon when we returned. Whatever house we stopped at for lunch, that mom would also set out food and water for Rocky. He was definitely the most intelligent and responsible member of our small gang of good natured miscreants. The great thing about having Rocky with was that the older boys in the neighborhood who normally bullied us for fun would take one look at Rocky, shut their mouths, and go about their business. He was the ultimate bully deterrent. So, yeah, I agree that this breed, properly trained and socialized, can be like a guardian angel for kids….

Never even heard of this breed before until my pugs and I were lucky enough to meet one at our local park and befriended the owners. Drogon, as he is called, who looks similar to Bruce is the most beautiful, gentle, loving dog I have ever known and gives me dog envy every time I see him. The way he adapts his play from playing to a large husky to cuddling a baby frenchie and my pugs (who adore him) is bewildering to watch..

The Presa Canario was also originally a war dog but mine thought he was a pussycat and let all the little puppies chase him and the small kids cuddle him. He was also highly protective of the family. Sadly, as is with all large dogs, he only lived to 10yrs. I will always remember him!
This breed originally comes from the Canary Islands while their origin goes all the way back to the Roman Empire times. The Presa Canario breed was developed in between 43 and 89 AD. In the initial years, this breed was seen fighting along with the Romans during the Roman Conquest of Britain.

Lol! I own a Corso and they really do have a mind of their own, it's hard to walk them outside because my dog gets so excited that he runs dragging me with him when he sees other humans. Corsos are really handy when you are a woman or someone of target, the Corso makes you feel secure and others that are targeting you have fear because of the big dog.

My accountant has 2 corsos - 1st time I met them it was a "get to know" experience. A little scary as these were trained to be drug dogs by DEA. Next time I went to their house, they remembered me & we have some great vids of them dropping toys at my feet & me not being able to conduct business because I was being pulled around their house to play. Now we are best buddies.
One of my moms bfs had a “king cane corso Italian mastiff” he was a puppy so he was extra crazy but the sweetest boy there ever was. Truly a beautiful breed

I've owned 3 cane corsos in my life now. Owned two through my twenties and they lived great lives. Got my recent Cane Corso and a Golden Lab. Gave the golden lab to my cousin because she was too hyper, jumped on my four year old, and kept chasing the cats. My cane corso is great with the kids and cats. I've realized I'm not really a dog person- I'm specifically a cane corso person.

I saw one in person for the first time a few days ago. I've had 8 GSD's in my adult life, the last two passed on about a year ago. My grief is about over, I'm slowly getting to the acceptance stage. Thought about getting another, but now I've taken a strong interest in the Cane Corso. I've got a million questions, which I'm sure I'll have answered, but my main question is how long do they live? I don't think my heart can stand me out living another gift from the God of my understanding. Sounds crazy, huh? That's ok, those that "get it" will understand. 💔
My Cane Corso lived to 12. I fed him raw foods, vegetables, fruits, meats. He was ready to pass at 9. I changed his life from dog foods and he turned into a puppy again. Lived for another few years!
I was lucky enough to have one as a kid, they're super gentle with kids, cats, and other dogs when socialized properly! I miss my Hera R.I.P.

@@dante6806 true!! My chihuahua is super sweet, she loves people, bring all her toys out when we have guests, I trained her not to bark all the time, she does bark at dogs but briefly and never barks at people. It took a lot of patience and time to train her as a puppy.
I love watching how Bruce Wayne kept inching closer to get more cuddles. Bruce Wayne is definitely a lap dog and he deserves all the snuggles.
Also, if you are trapped in the desert without water and you have a cane corso, clearly you can get water just by holding a biscuit in front of their face and collecting the drool. So refreshing.

I have cooked for my Black Lab for years,started with my Akita/Retriever when he got old and some chicken thighs,sweet potatoe,lil brown rice and cooked brocolli or sprouts. The fat in the dark meat keeps her coat shiney. All in moderation,no salt.

Kenneth Hedden Same here. My border collie was so picky and always having stomach issues so I started making her boiled chicken with pumpkin purée or rice, etc. and it progressed from there. Idk why it’s not a more normal thing. Every Sunday I literally throw a chicken into a pot of water while watching tv, then rip it up while watching tv, and mix some w dif things each day lol. For her morning meal she has a medium bowl of healthy kibble for her teeth mixed w fish oil (or else she gets itchy skin... plus, she weirdly LOVES anything oily so I don’t have to hide the oil and can just dump it on top... two meals a day... plus vitamins and probiotics.... and she’s a perfect weight and healthy girl! It’s not that serious.

I had a Dogue De Bordeaux. From the best breeder in the UK. I spent 6 months training him from a puppy. He was incredibly loyal. Well trained. Sadly people still reacted excessively. Picking their dogs up. Picking children up (causing the child to cry as if there’s something to be scared of. Now they just have a kid afraid of big dogs). Asking if he was a Pitt bull. People are clueless.
He got a few nips from little yappy dogs people have on extendable Leashes and dress in jumpers and hats and just let them bark at anything that moves. I always thought owning a dog should be like passing a driving test. God I loved him. Lenny. If I ever got a dog again. It would be a cane corso. More trainable. Slightly less drool. More muscular. And black. So cool.

We had a rottweiler for 9 years before she passed. I remember getting training done with her and was asked 'what's harder, am hour of taxes or an hour walk?'... I said taxes obviously.... the trainer said 'exactly, the dog is no different and mental stimulation is more tiring for the dog'. Solid advice.

My cat has successfully trained me and/or one of my daughters to wake up and watch him eat at 5am each morning. That's all he wants then he let's us go back to sleep.
If we try to resist we get paws 🐾 to our eyelids, then a paw in our mouth, purring nose in the ear etc

@@thegnome9529 He really is a sweet boy. He just doesn't Iike to ever be alone. He was an abandoned cat from my father's neighborhood. His previous owners moved away overnight without telling anyone and left him behind. My daughters and I watched him trying to befriend every human being who walked by. Many people would ignore him or kick him away. We decided he needed to be home with us. Now that he's a house cat once again he wants to be with us all the time. He sits on the side of the tub when we shower or bathe and waits for us. If we go into a room and shut the door he will cry and try to reach his paws under the door until we let him in. If we have to leave him home alone for a while he greets us at the door as we walk in purring and happy. Maybe he has abandonment issues, but I'm not sure if cats think that way.
Either way we don't mind spoiling him because he's such a sweet, snuggly, playful yet very needy kitty..

No dog is born dangerous. If they are raised with love, they will be loving dogs. If they are raised to attack and hate, they will do so. Thank you for showing that corsos are just as loving as they are raised. I have a chihuahua who thinks he is a pit bull, and a pit bull who thinks he is a lap puppy. We love them all!

I have a male honey Corso. He looks massive, aggressive and when he barks he scares the sh*t out of everyone but I swear, he is the most loving and peaceful dog I've ever had. The only time he hurt me was when he jumped on me asking for cuddles...still, not he's fault

Actually he feeds his dog raw! When you feed your animals raw, they tend to have smaller , less frequent, and less smelly stool. it’s because their guts are absorbing every nutrient they need and getting enough moisture, whereas with kibble there is a LOT more waste to dispose of.

We used to have a Cane Corso, he was one of the best dogs ever. His previous owner beat hit and didn’t feed him. But we was rescued and we adopted him. He was scared for almost everything. But when he knew you he would cuddle with you. He sadly passed away last December. He wish he was still here.
He deserved better. I'm glad he was loved till the end after being rescued

Sorry you lost your mate. We have an English Mastiff who was badly mistreated by a previous male owner, so he had major aggression issues with unknown males coming onto our property. After a couple of years of proper love and care he still looks terrifying when he barks, but he's just a big gentle giant who wouldn't hurt a fly. His name is Fawn but I call him my Smol Bear.
Beautiful pupper 🥰 This guy is literally gorgeous and is such a gentleman. If I ever get a house with a large backyard, and quit working 12 hour shifts, I'm definitely getting a Cane Corso.
I have a 14 week old cane corsa he stands at 15cm, he’s my bady boy, in England we don’t dock there ears or there tails, there is no American cane corsa, it’s 1 recognised breed globally, my puppy is k9 register and has the best training but don’t forget the playtime he loves to play, wouldn’t be without him ❤❤

I saw this dog breed yesterday across the neighbor's house and he got out. Fortunately, he was smart enough to stay in their front yard. Apparently, my dad recognized that it was the neighbor's dog and he phoned them. My dad informed me the last time he saw their dog (last year I think), he was small. Now the dog is massive like the one that's seen on this video.

Exactly!!! My Cane corso is from the time i brought him home scared from all, small dogs, big dogs, noisy children, some people, trash bag.. and i really think i did great socialization, but this is just his temperament. He is listening good but scared from lot of things.

Cropping dogs ears -which is what he has done and is advocating - is completely needless and dangerous. It’s irresponsible, idc how nice and knowledge this guy is - 0 credibility.
@@selty I wasn't commenting on the cropping of the dogs ears or tail, and maybe I should have been more specific about that because I in no way agree with doing that. What I was commenting on was how he has trained his dog to be a well behaved member of the dog society, and also how he encourages people to not go out and get a Cane Corso unless they seriously know what they are doing. I'm lucky to live in the UK where its illegal to dock a dogs tail or crop their ears, unless its for medical reasons, and I will never agree with it for cosmetic purposes. Hope this cleared things up 😊
@@selty but I also don't feel the need to give my opinion on him having already done it, in part, because its already been done, but also because I know it is legal in the US. So unless the guy posted a video talking about it and telling other people to do it, I wouldn't have commented on it otherwise 😊
He's great! Jason Corey on youtube. I watch all of his videos and he's a really responsible dog owner. He really goes above and beyond.
@@selty As far as I know he hasn't really talked about it that much. There are a lot of myths about the "benefits" (like supposing they get less ear infections because their ears are more open) of cropping and docking and it's possible he's bought into it. I think it would be interesting to see a study on docked and cropped vs. natural dogs.
