I’d insulate everything. Air gap insulation is not efficient enough. Since the attic already has insulation it would make sense to blow it in the walls as well since there is no air flow in the attic space… to your point I’d also use rock wool Underneath the floors to reduce foot sounds.

@@kerriuttaro6153 they were people discussing this topic a few comments up, throughout the EU it’s more common to make brick houses with concrete foundations. Usually the shape of the attic differs depending on the climate. I remember my dad always joking when seeing me watch renovation shows in tv that omg these Americans make paper houses 😂 (of course the US is huge, many different climates, many different construction techniques, but you definitely see more of these wood frames there than in Europe).

That second door onto the porch is actually very common in some areas. The idea is you don't have to leave by the front door to sit on your porch. It seems redundant, but people seemed to like it. In some cases there was no access to the porch except through that "extra" door.

My niece has been renovating her house for several years. One day, she pulled off the plaster and lath in a bedroom and her boyfriend, my brother and Molly hung insulation and dry wall. You can't just cover it up with baseboards and expect not to get bugs and moisture in the house through the gaps?! How does that get covered properly and sealed or is that going to happen from the outside?

MaCenna - you are so patient - after all the work you did making the measurements etc as clear as humanly possible to ensure they get it right - The fact that they didn't get the dimensions of that doorway where the french doors will be going correct with the information RIGHT NEXT TO THEM is just something I will NEVER understand about contractors and the crazy errors they tend to make!! Boy oh Boy! the incompetence continues to astound me! But your positive spirit is why you will prevail. I suppose it's a lesson in patience and there are certainly worse things. It's nice to see you so excited. The thoroughness with which you have shared your vision really makes it so exciting to watch your dream come to life!!
