Holy mother of... !!!! That stretch series she does at 0:57 is insane!!! 🤯😳🥵 The strength and flexibility it takes to hold her upper body weight like that and she does it so fluidly! As much as I enjoy seeing acrobatics on beam I love seeing the flexibility and artistic strength movements even more 💙
That's why I'm glad they took that system away. It was very biased imo and it only seemed to favor a few. There MANY moments where gymnasts should have gotten a perfect 10 and didn't like Betty on beam. I also think Dawes on floor deserved one and Shannon miller
Well for this routine she didn't stick her landing on the dismount. So a 10 would be impossible with proper scoring (I know they gave out a few ridiculous 10s mind you).
I think it was both her leaps which weren't optimal, and that she rarely/almost never stuck her dismount. Granted some more favored gymnasts by the judges got some imperfect 10s in this time.
She always had such beautiful lines, great flexibility, shows off some upper body strength, and high difficulty. Other than a little more amplitude in her leaps, she was pretty much perfection on beam.
Great athleticism almost always includes superb technique, which the most decorated WAG has. Don't confuse grace with a biased European standard of beauty. Now, I personally don't like the reining WAG's feet (wide & flat), but it's how she was created by God, so I can't hold it against her based on European standards.
I wonder how good Betty could have been with better coaching. It seems like the Karoylis were just doing one-size-fits all training during that quad. Betty needed someone to personalize her training the way Khorkina's coach did.
Good point. Maybe she would have had less injuries as well. Karolyi pushed his athletes so hard (perhaps unnecessary)and that type of training was not one size fits all as you said. I know that she was advised by doctors not to compete in 1992 due to an injury. I want to say it was a back injury. But she went ahead of course.

Many athletes, not just gymnasts and not just children, compete with injuries, including broken bones. It's the price they pay for their dreams. They would have lifetimes of regrets had they not pursued them at any cost. I guess I'm a lucky one. My parents would not let me.

we have this camp at my gymnastics it’s called all in camp and she comes to it every year to help coach us. She’s so nice
B & M coached the heroes of my childhood. Kim Zemeskel along with the rest of the early 90's team were my perfect afternoon lol
