She was around 36 during this show I believe. There are a number of English subtitle interviews. The most complete is a three part Sohyang interview that has a lot of shots of her at home with her family.
She is an amazing gospel singer.
She always touches my heart and makes me cry. She's a pure and lovely person who comfort wounded peoples mentally and physically.
I'm a Buddhist but truly love her and respect her sincere faith in God. She looks like an angel.

Thanks for the wonderful reaction. Sohyang has so many phenomenal performances but to me, this one will always hold a special place as I discovered her for the first time. There are many great singers who can indulge and amaze our sensory functions. Sohyang, at the other hand, can often serve as an answer to our spiritual calling. Her voice somehow finds the missing hole in our soul and helps us fill it with comfort and gratitude. Her stage here touched my heart in ways that cannot be described in words.
Sohyang actually comes to the U.S. from time to time for different reasons. Occasionally she would give concerts in some form, typically on the coasts.
There are interviews of Sohyang on line, and as David Hill already pointed, there is a series of 3-part interview of Sohyang under the title "Sohyang - Life Story Pt. 1/2/3" that provides some great background on Sohyang about her gaining fame, family life, as well as her health challenges. You can learn a great deal from them. This interview took place maybe a year or so before this performance of "Bridge Over Troubled Water."
Many wonderful Sohyang performances remain to be explored for you. I would however single out two for your consideration:

We all wonder if So Hyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she's from another planet or perhaps an angel come down from Heaven. We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. She does all the musical arrangements herself, teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks four languages. Korean, English, French and
Vietnamese.
Let me catch my breath. OK.
She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. But this left her without the ability to have children so she decided to dedicate her life to being a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer and has refused recording contracts from the biggest corporations in the world. She only wants to sing for charities, churches and while doing missionary work. David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton and others have all travelled to Asia to work with her.
She contracted hepatitis B from a blood transfusion during her cancer surgery and it clings to her to this day. Because of this she is prone to catching pneumonia but has sang perfectly while suffering from it in her live performance of "You Raise Me Up" before Shane Filan of Westlife on South Korean TV. ua-cam.com/video/te_L9ofhUt8/v-deo.html She has asked those who love her singing to pray that God keep pneumonia away from her, she has suffered from it on so many occasions. Imagine how she must feel with this coronavirus floating around everywhere!

She decided to enter a televised singing contest called "King of the Masked Singers" in 2017 and won six consecutive times, which has catapulted her into international fame from the performances being posted on UA-cam. Apparently Oprah Winfrey saw her on UA-cam and showed her to David Foster, who then contacted her and went to Japan in order to work together. She could be an international Super Star if she wanted to be but has decided that it would ruin her spiritually, quoting Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death." So she does not pursue fame or fortune and actually has no social media presence whatsoever. What can one say about such a person? She is a literal Wonder Woman! And we need about a billion more just like her!

So I took a look at her sing the song you and your son just featured and I was completely blown away! How can anyone be a better singer, performer and human being? I am just about without words to describe how much I like her. I wish she would come to Calgary to do a show. She does come to the US and Canada for concerts but it not easy to know when, because she doesn't have any social media platform at all. There is a fan club on Facebook though, so if you join there you will probably be more informed than we are used to being. I'm glad you two get as big a bang out of her as the rest of us do. She is a really uplifting person and we need many, many more of them!

welcome to Sohyan's world. lol. Well, since i have seen her TV performance, I can't stop watching performance over and over. Recently, she joined "Begin Again Korea" TV music show. There are many remarkable performances as well. One of her performances, "I will always love you" got 4 M watching views within a month. although it doesn't have her signature high tone, her interpretation was second to none and exceptional. You may watch her performance too.
The first song I ever heard from Sohyang and I've been hooked ever since. Watching you guys just mesmerized by her, even after all the other reactions you've done of her, brings back those memories when I couldn't believe what I was watcing, that such a performance was possible.

The one that I love the best was her doing her face reveal at the end of her run on King of mask Singers, but sadly it is no longer up. There are a couple of reactions of the clip still up if you want to watch them. It's not that long and is the best clip to show her personality and humour.
She has gone to the US, she has sung at churches. Won't now with COVID of course, let's hope this madness ends soon.

I recommend that you see the reaction to So Hyang by one of the best vocal teachers on UA-cam (John Henny Vocal Studio) who explains her technique in very simple terms; he feels that she is one of the best female singers of all time. All vocal coaches think she is technically flawless, while singing with emotion. She is the queen of the mixed voice. You can clearly see her gospel roots, singing to people who may be experiencing difficult times and bringing you to church (see the background).

She is 42yrs old at the moment but she was 37 yrs old when she did this performance,i think she's got the 'benjamin button thing goin on where the older she gets the younger she looks!..it is so hard to find out anything about sohyang to the extent you have with dimash & many of the interviews she has given on TV seem to be on the same channel(I recognise the hosts) which I believe is a christian based channel in korea but she did quite a long interview once that I believe was in 3 or 4 parts discussing her time back to when she was at university & all the fashion faux pas etc,how she met her husband,gettin married,her ill health & her music career & how she chose to stay out of the spotlight & of course about god.they also showed her at home cooking for the family & around her apartment etc. I did manage to find this with english subs which I will send on to you when I locate it. And as I recall, to my knowledge,there seems to be only 1 non korean,not associated with the christian church,that managed to get a decent length interview with her,& again I think that was split into 4 parts but that contained the footage of how it came about & how he actually got to korea & the build up to him finally meeting her,but once again I cant at this moment recall his name but will forward it to you when I do, and he was a turkish musician & record producer who was a massive so hyang fan. There was a 3rd person there who acted as translator but he did understand odd words in english & every so often so hyang would say something in english(she speaks english fluently but she initially learned her english by watching disney movies).she did spend time in the states early on with her CCM band & accidently ended up working on her technique a little with a guy called seth riggs who I believe was michael jacksons vocal coach. This interview is again available somewhere with english subs but its not the easiest thing to find, things like this are so rare for so hyang but she is a really private person,which is the opposite of what she gives you of herself when she's on stage.its midnight here in england so I will get this stuff to you tomorrow(my time).

The song was “Never Enough “. She was sitting in a very large chair and very still throughout the song. I have come to find out that was an isolated event and was not a usual performance!!! Love her!!!

Have to be honest this is my least favorite of her Immortal Songs performances. She's on the very edge on a few of those belts and I suspect they had to do a little post production work as none of her subsequent performances of BOTW have ever really matched this one for pitch. I mean it's obviously still great but I just prefer her a little further from the limit than she was here which is why I love her Begin Again material so much.

Do you mean that here So Hyang was at the top, at the limit of her vocal power and that is why she has not been matched by another presentation of this same song? the format of the program demands it, Begin Again is much more intimate and less demanding, even so the vocal perfection in both makes unnecessary post-production work. You just have to see her sing in churches, it goes beyond her best known performances
It is her most reacted performance with over 600 reaction videos(much more if you count the ones taken down from copyright strike) and always ranks in the top 3 if you go do some research on her fan pages where they rank their top 10 favorite So Hyang performances so only few people agree with you about what you said.

BTW she hit it big about 7 years ago but didn't sell her soul in LA and came back to Korea. If you want to see a prime example of what happens when a great artist becomes "sold" look at shikira before and after her US debut. Two different people.
