I will say, any fan of this show will not judge you if you do cry or get angry reacting to it. For as goofy and funny as it can be, it really holds no punches when it comes to darker emotions either, or the trauma we inflict on each other. I've personally cried at many, many episodes, that's why I love this show so much..
Yeah, i often had the same emotional response, specially when watching stuff about Bojack and his mom. It's kind of a really bad trigger for people who've felt hopeless about their relationship with loved ones. That experience of loving someone and yet how speaking to them can leave you just, destroyed, in minutes, it kind of drains you of hope about human experiences for a second. Like, "if my family can be this horrible to me, what about the rest of the world? who can i expect better from?". Even though it's entertainment it leaves you kind of _suffocated_ for a bit. It's kind of easy to spiral from that... but to me it helps to remember this is fiction, and even though it evokes *very* real things, people both in this story and in real life are capable of so much love and good. Even though nobody's perfect. Even if they've suffered. Sometimes *because* of it. And even though we might be damaged and feel for Bojack's dispair, we can all heal. We take a breath. We choose to believe in good people. We take a breath. We get hurt. We are helped by others. We share pain, we make mistakes. And we breathe, and are patient, and the problems are still there, but little by little facing them doesn't feel pointless. We are patient. We breathe. And we heal. There is hope. (ok maybe i needed to calm down too just from watching those clips but yeah, the point is, i get it.)
I always get excited that new people watch this series, but often forget that some parts will hit too close to home and hurt us in reality. I wish you guys strength for the episodes to come and hope that good things and growth come out of the struggle.
Group hug for Imon. We love you gurl. Your the bomb. You { and Abi } are two of the best, funniest, most thought provoking UA-camrs in the business. Don't ever let anyone tell you different.
Parents that don’t support their children are sad, parents that go OUT OF THEIR WAY to put their children (or anyone) down are actually disgusting. Thank you guys for always being so open and honest and thoughtful with these discussions, especially with how hard they get with this show. And Imon (and Abi of course) for what it’s worth, your channel and reactions are a similar escape for some of us and we definitely appreciate it! ❤️❤️❤️
I don't think that what they were going for in the intro was that Bojack didn't hear what Secretariat had to say. I think the point is that the shitty situation with his parents made him completely fixate on that sentiment and made his life revolve around it. 'Always keep running forward and never look back'. Those words became became his mantra, his lifeline, the inspiration to keep pushing forward. But sadly, every fuck up that would potentially cause some self-reflection (biggest example so far being him letting the Horsing Around execs ruin Herb's career and him completely shutting Herb out of his life and ignoring his existence for the next 20 years due to the guilt that ate at him) would be brushed aside with Bojack moving on immediately, without any attempt to fix things or to reach some understanding/closure. I think it better explains Bojack's attitude and his outlook on life throughout the entire show. He never learned how to stop running.
I think Raphael Bob whatshisface even said that during that scene Bojack was focused only on what Secretariat was saying to the point where he loved by those words (or something like that it's been awhile since I read the article). It was from an interview done recently, I'm sure you can find the article if you look hard enough
Yes, that's what they were going for but I feel like you wouldn't know that he actually heard it if they didn't tell you. It's not that obvious the way they did it in the show.
This is one of those shows that will stay with you long after you finish it. I almost feel like I was a whole different person before I saw Bojack. The show is sometimes hard to watch because it gets so real but it might be the best thing I've ever seen.
One (seriously, there are so many) of the great things about this show are the recurring themes and callbacks. In season two, look at all the different ways "What are you doing here?" is asked and answered by all the characters.
I had an incredibly abusive mother, she wasn't as openly cruel as Bojack's mother Beatrice because she was smart enough to know that if she said anything like that any of us could have told somebody about it, so she always purposely worded her cruelty in a way that would sound like she was only a little bit strict if we told other adults. We still had a handful of interviews with Child Protective services, but she detailed horrible things that would happen to me and my little siblings in foster care if we were separated and alone so we were all too scared to tell the service agents anything bad.
God that sounds horrible and I'm sorry you and your sister went through that. And ouch some parts hit too close to home. Especially about being too scared to reach out for help because of what she said. Reminds me of my own parents. It all just...sucks so badly when this happens to you, you know?
Your reaction at 15:40 is very honest, thanks for sharing it with us. Bojack Horseman is a very deep, psychological drama (spliced with bizarre, hilarious comedy). It cuts very deep and takes most viewers to some very dark places at times - but it's also strangely cathartic ! I happened to - strangely - always feel better about life and myself after watching Bojack Horseman, at least after the initial downer moments wore off. It seems like it might have the same effect on you - just don't stop watching mid-season (this goes for any season).
Bojack Episode one intro talking to Charlie Rose about Horsing Around: "it’s not Ibsen." Bea talking to Bojack after watching the show in this episode: "it’s not Ibsen." He internalized her criticism as well :c In the beginning of this episode I think Bojack did hear Secretariat after turning up the volume and sitting closer, internalizing his message. By the way Secretariat was a real life racing horse. He was the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years and one of the fastest Horses ever. He even holds world records.
SPOILERS (Season 6 Episode 16): In case you never noticed, the play BoJack is directing in the max security prison is Hedda Gabler... which is actually from Henrik Ibsen. When later mentioning this to Princess Carolyne while they dance, BoJack says "I mean, it's not Strindberg...", and while this is open to interpretation, I personally asume it kinda implies that no matter what he did (even Ibsen), it was never going to be good enough... ...and does indeed show the internalizated criticism from his mother that you mentioned.
I’m so glad you are both watching this wonderfully sad, deep, hilarious show. You are taking it seriously and actually discussing it at the end and it’s so nice. The emotions this show evokes are wonderfully real. So glad we can share it with you!
the sneaky thing about bojack is the silly animation and anthropomorphic world allows them to tackle very serious and very deep topics. you think it's some wacky cartoon but then quickly realize it's wayyy more. just have some tissues there moving forward. lots of laughs coming too though.
We love you, Imon! This show will get very, very emotional. But we appreciate the genuineness with which you present your worldview and relate your experiences.
There is going to be allot of crying with this series... because it just keeps getting tough to watch as it progresses but still an amazing rollercoaster of emotions ahead
Incredible discussion on this one guys, I get how draining it can be to discuss some of the themes of the show but I always appreciate the approach that you two take. One of the absolute high points of this show for me is how plainly they portray those tough emotional moments and relationships. I'm so glad that you started watching this one
Man, yeah. This episode stands out to me still a year after I watched it, just because Bojack's mom is so horrible. I'm sad we didn't get that first scene in full, because it's maybe the most terrible thing I've ever seen written between a parent and their child. There's so much genius comedy writing in this show, between the animal gags and the crazy wordplay and the little tiny things that pay off in huge ways eventually, and that first scene shows that the writers are just as incredible at coming up with the most horrible scenes they can without needing to make the show violent or zany. It's just cruel, and it all works together to make this show fantastic. And I haven't gotten far enough to know for sure, but I'm pretty sure that Bojack's dad is dead. 22:00 She did apologize, though. Not for being a bad parent, but giving birth to him at all, creating him as "broken", as she sees it. The way he is, in her mind, is a result of both who his parents are and how he was brought up; it's both her fault and not, because while she did provide him with his genetics and his upbringing, in the end, he was destined to be messed up no matter what simply because of who he is. She's just terrible. lol Looking forward to the rest of the season. It gets pretty insane.
I never really thought about it in those words but hearing you say his mom can never say sorry or take blame really puts in perspective the way Bojack handles stuff. When it comes to him, things that have to do with his mom hit the hardest for me too. I hope this won't be too hard for you both in the future, great video as always
I’m struggling with this situation and these feelings at the moment so Ik that hurt. It’s completely okay to feel that hurt and to be angry at seeing it inflicted on others. The deeper issues of this show is what makes it so amazing and so real to me. I still haven’t finished it myself but I’m more than happy to finish it with you guys ❤️
You know this feeling after watching this episode? Fun and enjoyment with sadness sprinkled through, and that hammer of misery at the end? Yeah, get used to that (with this show, at least...I hope to god no one has to go through that IRL, or as little as possible).
Even though this show is a Masterpiece, I have a difficult time telling people to watch it b/c of how hard it can hit you at times Shoutout to you two willing to be vulnerable takes incredible strength
Gosh, such a great series. I don’t want to spoil things but let’s just say the show is really fantastic. So glad you’re in season 2 now, glad you’re sticking with the show! Keep up the work with the great videos
Stay strong and great genuine reaction, this series will hit close to home for you and alot of us but please stick with it, one of the best pieces on mental health that's out there
Imon, I was crying along with you. I’ve seen this episode before, but it still had me crying frustrated tears, and then with the discussion afterwards... This is the kind of show that will reach into the deepest parts of you, so don’t ever feel ashamed for being vulnerable (even if you do feel you want to cut some of it out). I don’t want to scare you both either but...buckle in for another season.
Thank you for being so open about the abuse you grew up with. I know from experience how hard it is to get the words out, how painful and frightening it can be to think about and say. I think what’s different about this show is how honest it is. It doesn’t sugarcoat it but it doesn’t make people cartoon villains either; it’s just as real and simple and complicated as in real life. That makes it more triggery, but IMO it makes it more cathartic as well.
It's been about 7 years since I've had depression and about 2 years into it I saw Bojack Horseman and it helped me A LOT. Maybe it helped me kind of "materialize" emotions better that were so hard to distinguish when you're mind feels filled with so much fog and ambiguity. I think it's really cathartic and it probably resonated with a lot of people. I love this show
16:08 "Imon exceeds my expectations, and is a very valuable person." Repeat it in your mind as often as you like. Really let it sink in to the old subconscious, because it's true.
It’s fun to track how frequently for the rest of the series BoJack says the line, “What are you doing here?” It pops up way too frequently for it to be accidental.
I love that you're watching this show and digesting it as a story and not an 'animal cartoon'. The beauty(/horror) of Bojack is how human, and real, and *hard* it can be - because that's how life is. We all have our own trauma and hurt that we deal with in our own ways and this show puts it all out there from start to finish (and straight from the horse's mouth!). There were episodes where I was just as broken (or more) afterwards and... it hurts, but there is value and growth in feeling/dealing with it and 'moving ahead'. I'm watching with you until the end.
Hi, Great Reaction! I always felt that the end credit song just gets you at moments like these. Do you think you can add first 5 seconds of song in the next reaction?
imon relate to this episode so hard. As someone who has been under toxic parenting ,I feel so warm to see someone actually care enough for people growing up like us. people under terrible parents are usually hard to find friends or fit in society, cause it's hard for us to trust anyone, or the void of having parents recognition is always there.
As someone very stoic (who also realizes this is gonna get buried and unread), it's alright to be emotional and feel empathy. We need all types in this society, and I appreciate when people can be healthily empathic. There's nothing wrong with crying.
Beatrice’s call was actually incredibly helpful for Bojack. He can actually begin the real work of change as opposed to the phony “change” with no healing/addressing his past.
Hugs to both of you. And do your best with this show because it will continue to hit you in your soul and will get you to reflect on your life. This is an amazing show and I'm glad you're both reacting to it. Stay strong
The idea that Butterscotch was also put on by Beatrice is a fun angle, and definitely something that is reasonable to wonder about at this stage! But oh boy, it's quite funny to hear when you've actually seen Butterscotch
First episode of season two and Imon has been broken... This is gonna be a wild ride. This shows touches a lot of different things that happen that leave some scars so is totally understanding. There are a couple of episodes that I cannot watch without going totally numb and sad afterwards
Awww, Imon. I wish I could reach through the screen and give you a hug! You just keep living the life you want to live, you have fans no matter what 😁👍
Here we go, it only gets deeper form here. One thing about Bojack is they give even the worst characters layers, this is just the beginning. It gets so much more emotional. Love you guys!!!!
Great reactions! this is it, this is the show we want people to watch so bad because it's so good, it is kind of a masterclass on trauma and morality so it's hard to sell but it is so worth it, thank you guys!
Not to mention it's such an absurd premise and the first couple of episodes feature animals having sex with humans. Little off putting out of the gate, but holy crap is it incredible once it gets going.
That scene when Bojack is with his mom in a restaurant after the show feels... very familiar. The way she talks and complains there is a lot like my mother.
I can relate so much with the mom situation. My mom thinks everything I like is evil in some way, that the way I am is not her fault because I'm an adult now so it's all on me and not on the 20+ years of hell I went through living with her. Her thing is basically " Well I only traumatized you half as much as my mom traumatized me so be grateful!" Never says sorry, never takes criticism.i even took out a loan for her in the beginning of Covid to help her stay afloat and now she says she's not going to give me money for it any more! Dropped her from my life and i honestly dont know if I'll ever let her back in.
Been waiting to say this since probably episode two but now that you're on 2x4 (I think for patreon) you've probably realized that season 1 was the lightest the show will get.
I think it takes a lot of courage to pour out like that and I love you guys for being so real
I will say, any fan of this show will not judge you if you do cry or get angry reacting to it. For as goofy and funny as it can be, it really holds no punches when it comes to darker emotions either, or the trauma we inflict on each other. I've personally cried at many, many episodes, that's why I love this show so much..
THIS
If anything I think fans would be shocked if they DIDN’T cry at some point, I’ve watched this show through like 6 times and I cry every damn time
Abbey and Imon: How deep does this go?
Me: I don't know, I am still waiting to hear the rock I dropped down the hole for days.
*old man comes out of the shadows* aaaa... i remember when i droped my rock... that was 50 years agoe now...

Bojack struggled with the scene cause he was already pretending being happy, he was always acting being happy
I don't think that what they were going for in the intro was that Bojack didn't hear what Secretariat had to say. Actually I think I remember reading that the writers did mean to show that he didn't hear the whole thing. I could be wrong however

It’s okay y’all Bojack is gonna give many of moments where you’re gonna cry. Cause it’s hits like that.
That scene of the call.... I feel how my hearth broke... Is not like " hey! Im like Bojack!!" But that scene fit so hard....
The answer to the crossword is Cukor
This show does this. It mixes all you emotions together and by the end you dont know how to feel. Beautiful reaction and commentary.
This is getting really good. Hope you guys can update the bojack series more quickly in the future!
Season 2 (specifically episode 8 imo) is when this show goes from good to GOAT level and it doesn't let up for the remainder of its run
This episode made me cry.. this reaction making me cry..
imon relate to this episode so hard.
As someone who has been under toxic parenting ,I feel so warm to see someone actually care enough for people growing up like us.
people under terrible parents are usually hard to find friends or fit in society, cause it's hard for us to trust anyone, or the void of having parents recognition is always there.
Oh god. Just wait til y’all get to season 4
That’s what I’m saying!😭. Beatrice’s storyline in particular...fucked me up.
Hey i know y'all are busy with the other shows but just saying that no one will complain if you start watching 2 bojacks a week lol
You misspelled the number 7.
@@Kaemonarch hahaha yes!
Sending virtual hug to Imon. 💕
And in Imon emotional reaction we see why this is one of the best show, have a hug girl!
Don’t worry, with Bojack, it Hits you hard sometimes.
You guys are so sweet and I love your discussions :) don’t be afraid to get emotional, especially not with this series haha.
Aww great reaction. This show gets even better as it goes. cant wait.
That thumbnail 😭 painful but enjoyable show, glad you like it tho.
First episode of season two and Imon has been broken... This is gonna be a wild ride. This shows touches a lot of different things that happen that leave some scars so is totally understanding. There are a couple of episodes that I cannot watch without going totally numb and sad afterwards
"Yeah well, it makes me feel better."
Awww, Imon. I wish I could reach through the screen and give you a hug! You just keep living the life you want to live, you have fans no matter what 😁👍
Probably the most underrated Bojack episode. If not top 3 most underrated
Love the video Imon Nation and ABI Nation stay motivated Dream big 1 mill on the way
So much respect for imon, keeping it real in the discussion
Here we go, it only gets deeper form here. One thing about Bojack is they give even the worst characters layers, this is just the beginning. It gets so much more emotional. Love you guys!!!!
Prep yourselves. This. Will. Get. Sad.
I can't wait to see the reaction to when things actually get heavy
Imon's tears made me tear up for some reason, Bojack will have scenes where they will hit too close to home as you said Imon...
Imon send you a hug through the phone 😞 keep you your head up love.
Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to seeing your continued journey with Bojack. Subscribed.
"You're [you].
There's no cure for that"
Every time I revisit that line it feels a little more fucked up
That scene when Bojack is with his mom in a restaurant after the show feels... very familiar. The way she talks and complains there is a lot like my mother.
Gets better, gets darker, gets real.
You guys should do two episodes a week like y’all do with Better Call Saul. The episodes are really short.
This show is a masterpiece
What’s crazy is that Bjojack is like 50 years old and his mom still treats that this.
Glad to see this show continuing.
Get ready for more of those episodes that just fuck with your emotions
Been waiting to say this since probably episode two but now that you're on 2x4 (I think for patreon) you've probably realized that season 1 was the lightest the show will get.
1:41 *sad Sulu noises*
I can't believe I never spotted Turtletaub on the floor like that lmaooo
the one u hate will be the one u can relate... there is no bad man in this world
