Do you remember the scene in Steel Magnolias when Daryl Hannah says "My work tends to be too poufy when I'm nervous!!!!"
That's me, always, on my first video of the day. I made this bigger than what I intended and didn't finish out the back cause I had to make 5 more videos that day. So forgive me.
The great thing about using a Lomey bowl and foam is that you can make it at home, then affix it to your vase at the venue. REMEMBER THE GLUE STRIPS!
Also, make sure you put extra water in the bowl, and keep refilling especially if you're using hydrangea! Hydrangeas are heavy drinkers, like my Aunt Blanche.

Gorgeous ❤️
Absolutely beautiful 😍
Thank you!
Love it!!!
Beautiful ❤❤❤
Thank you! 😊
Perfect 😊
Thanks 😄
I would like to create this with silk flowers. gorgeous
You can definitely do this with faux flowers, such a pretty idea!
Flowers is perty.I always thought that.
This is tall centerpiece, I think they will look perfect if background is the wall.
You are amazing. If I do this 2-3 days before my wedding will it be fresh? Do they need to be refrigerated?
The hydrangea would not get enough water, unless you put the foam/lomey down into a deep bowl full of water after you made them to hang out in for two days. It's tricky because foam can does give hydration, but not enough for them to last 3 days, make sense? If you have access to a large cooler that is great but a regular fridge would probably be too small.
@@amymccord6480 thank you so much
I love this, planning to use it for my wedding in August. Would the 6" Lomey bowl work with a 4" Vase?
t is flour that has been weighed out to 150g then used in this case unleavened bread with a leavening agent which makes it in fact leavened bread ..I ask unto my inquisitive human companion what is time itself? Is it mearly a product of our apelike minds processing the world around us and attempting to make some sense of in all..what is flour? If the grain of wheat is never broken and milled does that still count? Does a man standing in the road at 6am screaming into the sky covered in his own fecal matter have any thing less to offer this particular bread recipe than a fully trained French baker?..we may never no the answer life is just full of these conundrums I hope this clears up the issue you have faced or any other issues you may have in your day to day operations peace ooouuuutttttt
GORGEOUS!!!!!!
I've watched this video twice and I'm saving to watch later.
Are you a professional florist? I've been noticing on UA-cam videos that the professionals use the green floral foam where as others use white styrofoam balls. Is there a real difference?
Yes, I am. The foam is Oasis Wet foam for fresh flowers...it soaks up water to keep your fresh buds alive. Styrofoam works great for silk flowers but fresh would die pretty quick. Hope that helps!
Also, one other tip....if you're doing these centerpieces on the regular I'd suggest wrapping the foam with floral chicken wire and secure the wire with zip ties. It creates a better 'cage' than the tape and it's more sturdy.
This is amazing!! I was curious as to about how long it takes to make one centerpiece. I’m trying to figure out if I do this for my October wedding if I could do it in the morning.
Thanks in advance it’s absolutely beautiful thank you for posting this 😄
Large arrangements like this can take a little bit of time, so we wouldn't recommend waiting until the morning of your wedding to start making these. 1-2 days beforehand, green out the arrangements and add your hardier blooms. More delicate stems can be added on the morning of, like the hydrangea. To keep the foam hydrated, pour water through the flowers using a small watering can and give the blooms a good misting with Crowning Glory!
Thank you so much!!! I know a lot of us appreciate you answering questions and all your other videos. As a bride on a budget you’re so very appreciated. ❤️
Absolutely beautiful! Question, would my 6” opening on a vase work with a 6” lomey bowl or would I need a bigger bowl size?
Great question, I had to go measure and try it out myself first! Ok, so rim to rim the Lomey is exactly 6''. I set it on a 6'' vase and it sat down in it without falling inside. I think it would work just fine, but my personal preference is a 9'' Lomey on a non-tapered vase.
Check out this video where I just talk about mechanics for tall arrangments: ua-cam.com/video/wg4zog2Bw_8/v-deo.html
Such a beautiful arrangement! How long do roses and hydrangeas last using oasis?
Complicated answer: A lot of it depends on the temp. The colder it is, the longer it will last. If it's in your house, around 70 then you can expect the hydrangeas to last a good day, and the roses will last about 2 days. Its important to rehydrate your foam daily and you can also extend the life by using Crowning Glory Fresh Floral Spray. When foam is down in a vase with plenty of water, the above rules don't apply...it's when the wet foam is sitting in a shallow design bowl with little water. Make sense?
Looks awesome. Would they be fine if I did them the day before my wedding but didnt refrigerate them?
Of course, you'll just want to make sure that your bowls are max full for they hydrangea! In the summer, I'll set the arrangements into the Pyrex dish full of water so the foam stays submerged.
I’ve watched this video about 20 times!!! I love love your videos!
I need to assist my sister with her center pieces. I purchased everything you have on the list! But I need you opinion please :) Can I do blue and white Hydrengeas, pompons, lemon leaf, Eucalyptus, Baby roses, gerber daisy. Do you think this is too much? If so what do you recommend? We are ordering the flowers from Costco. Thank you soo much!
Hello Shooshi! We have another video discussing tall vase mechanics so make sure to watch that, it'll be super helpful!
So hydrangeas you'll need to place in the foam the day-of or they may get wilty on you. You might want to go with roses, carnations, poms/cushion flower, and greenery if you want to build it the day before. Gerber daisies aren't a great choice unless you intend to wire them, as their heads will droop.

Your tutorials are so good. I have watched this video multiple times. My client is someone who purchased the amazon stand with a 9" opening trying to save money. She wants to DIY or me to DIY. What are your thoughts on an 11 1/2 " Lomey bowl? I would really prefer her to go with a tall glass cylinder for stability or pay for the better stands.
Thank you so much, Alyssia! I would have her bring the amazon stand to you, plop a Lomey on top with something weighty in it, and shift it around to test the stability. If you feel it's gonna be a shitshow and set you (and her) up for failure, you can explain and show her this and then opt for the tall cylinder.
I had to learn over the years to give boundaries with clients to protect my reputation and protect them from themselves. If I felt something was going to be a fail I would simply tell them no because when it doesn't work out (no matter how many warnings and disclaimers you give) they will ALWAYS blame you in the end and want a refund. I hope that helps! XXXX, Amy
Brill!
So gorgeous will the recipe you give fill out the back as well?
Honestly, I would take the recipe given and just cut the stems shorter. I didn't do this because I needed long stems for my second video of the day. If you want it the same size (without cutting stems shorter), then I'd add about 3 more hydrangeas and 3-5 more roses.
Thank you for this helpful video. I have a question, I am creating centerpieces with a 14” x 5” glass vase, what size of lomey bowl should I get?
I think a 6'' Lomey would work perfectly! I always have over-hang, and that's ok!
Hi, I'm creating a centerpiece with only red flowers and greenery. Which flowers would you recommend? By the way, your work is beautiful.
Wonderful!!!! This is the recipe I would use if you're wanting something around the same size: 1 bunch of salal, 1 bu of leather leaf, maybe some Italian ruscus. Then I would back-fill with 8-12 red roses (Freedom, Red Heart, or Black Pearl), and 8 red or burgundy carnations.
Hello love your work, would I still use fresh floral foam for artificial flowers as well?
Yes, but you can use dry foam instead! It's easy to find at the Hob Lob or Michaels.
I love this! How far in advance can you make this without the flowers wilting since they are not directly in water? Thanks!
The day before, and make sure you re-wet the foam the day of and keep the florals in a cool location. Hydrangeas are what makes this tricky because they are so water loving! You could make it smaller, double-down on greens and use football mums, roses, and stock without the 'hydrangea issue'
how many of each flower did you use'
Hi, thanks for the tutorial. I am inspired! Also, I was looking through your links to find the double-sided tape used to stabilize the plastic dish to the top of the vase, but I didn't see it. Perhaps, I overlooked. Please help with a link to that product. Thanks in advance.❤
Thanks for the kind words! You can use some of this tape, which works great!
www.amazon.com/dp/B07VNSXY31?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzflowermo-20&creativeASIN=B07VNSXY31&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.1WXU1ZP3RE1NM&ref_=aipsflist_aipsfflowermoxie_asin&th=1
Could I make this 2 days before with some peonies and ranunculus? Are they as finikey as hydrangeas? I seriously love your videos and site!
You can make it two days before if the foam was placed in a vessel of water. Ranunculus may be too short-stemmed, but you could always tape it to a skewer and add a water tube!
Miss. McClure tulipina
Love this! My questions: If I’m using faux flowers for this, do I still need the wet brick? Does the brick show from underneath?
If you're using all faux flowers, they won't need a water source so you'll stick with foam made for faux flowers!
Great
Thank you!
Hi can you make a video for submersible flower centerpiece with floating candles please :)
Great idea! And yep, that's tricky because those suckers like to float!
This is beautiful. What size vase are you using?
Thank you! This was around a 5" diameter.
Beautiful. How do you transport this to the venue?
Hello Dina, you transfer the Lomey Bowl Arrangement on its own, and then once you get to the venue you'll fill the vase with water, apply floral clay/putty or a glue strip to the lip of the vase and attach.
They are a hassle to do, so for DIY brides I only recommend making around 5 of them. =)
This is gorgeous with that much oasis. How far in advance would you make these with the hydrangea being so thirsty?
Hydrangea are big drinkers! We recommend making these the day before the wedding or if you'd like to get a jump on arranging, create the base of the arrangement with greenery and your hardier blooms and then backfill with the hydrangea on the day of the event!
I want my centerpieces this big (maybe bigger) what’s the floral recipe? Do you recommend chicken wire? I was looking at the dusty blue and cream mix on flower moxie.
Nah, dawg, it will only break your heart!
If you want it bigger, then I'd recommend wrapping the foam with chicken wire so it doesn't break apart. I have a video discussing tall centerpiece mechanics that you need to watch. Also, I wouldn't recommend doing over 5 of these if you're DIY'ing. They are kinda a pain and I don't want you feeling overwhelmed on your wedding week.
For the recipe, I'm not sure what blooms you want to go with, so I'd probably do a Custom Design if I were you! See links below:

I am trying to make my centerpieces with hydrangeas and white roses for my wedding. I bought 20" trumpet vases, any advice on what I should use to hold everything, loomey trays and the oasis? Any help would really really be appreciated.
Trumpet meaning the really skinny ones, also called Eiffel Tower vases? Those are tough due to stability reasons. I recommend using a straight foam bouquet holder OR gluing a stick onto a Lomey Bowl!
Thanks so much! If I can return them do you recommend a different style vase? I want the easiest way possible :)
Questions for 30 roses , a couple Veronica , statis , will the plate hold it or it should be the bowl plate ?
For that amount of weight, you want to get a Lomey Bowl and use a foam cage or wrap your foam with floral chicken wire and secure with zip ties. Reason being, the weight of all the flowers will break apart the foam if it's not encased or reinforced.
Lomey Bowls are a thick, heavy plastic and can hold extra water for hydration purposes.
If I wanted to do no greenery - just hydrangeas with leaves, roses, peonies, ranunculus (around 30 stems) would half a brick be enough support?
Nope, you would want to wrap the brick of foam in floral chicken wire/mesh and zip tie together. Or could buy a medium floral foam cage. The foam by itself would break apart with all the weight so you'd need reinforcement. XOXOXO, Amy
Did you dip the hydrangeas in alum or anything before putting them in the foam?
No, but I have in the past I think it helps a little. Hydrangeas don't love foam, but you need'em to get that full, round look so you have to put them in last minute when the foam is not in a vase of water.
Are you using the UGLU Oasis adhesive strips? If not - which brand would you recommend?
I am, but I think glue strips from Hobby Lobby works just as good!
@@FlowerMoxie thanks!!
Lovely flower arrangements. Can you list out the flowers and foliage used in this arrangement?
I did in the video, you may need to pause it! =)
So will this recipe only achieve half of the round arrangement shown? I was confused whether it ended up one sided. TIA!
Ha, sorry about that. The recipe will fill out the entire thing front and back if you cut them a bit shorter than I did, I just left my stems way too long which makes the circumference larger than what I had for my recipe. Videos are weird and you just have to go with it, lollll. In real life, I would just cut them down a little bit.
Do you happen to know how much of each item you used? Like how many stems of hydrangea, roses, Lemon Leaf?
It's listed in the video, you just have to pause it! =)
Beautiful! Where do you find your bowls for the top. ? Where the flowers are?
Those are standard design bowls called Lomey dishes, and we sell them on our supply site: diyflowersupply.com/search?q=Lomey
@@FlowerMoxie …Thank you!
Beautiful!!! How would you go on about transporting this? I am opting for going for this arrangement but with artificial flowers. The thing is that I need 20 centerpieces and the flower top is quite big!
The best way to transport these is to fold down the back seats of your car and carefully lay them in! You might want to grab some friends who have larger SUV's to help, but nestling them in tightly together will help prevent a lot of shifting in transit!
@@FlowerMoxie thank you for your share. Side note for beginners: We pre-tape vases and transport them in the cardboard box they came in. We place vases on tables, fill with water, and then attach lomey dishes to the tops at the event. It's easier to transport and way less of a headache. If they have a desired "focal view" - use a chopstick with a post-it on it and it will remind you exactly where your front is. The fit very well in my SUV like this. Good Luck to you all!
Can this be done with artificial flowers x
Yep!
where did you get the green oasis? can you link it please
You can often find it at Hobby Lobby or Micheals, or on Amazon. www.amazon.com/Oasis-Pack-Standard-Floral-Bricks/dp/B00GO4W2S4/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=wet+foam+floral&qid=1582209392&sr=8-4
Hey Flower Moxie, where in the world do I find the glue strips? I’ve been looking for months and haven’t had any luck.
Look up Zots glue strips or dots! They have them in the craft section at Hobby Lobby or MIchaels....or Amazon!
Amy McCord thank you!!!
What are the dimensions of the vase? Thank you.
Beautiful! Was it double sided tape?
Double sided tape is a type of tape that is sticky on both sides instead of only one! We like to use a stretchy kind like this one: www.amazon.com/Removable-Mounting-Multipurpose-Transparent-Automotive
It's removable and allows you to secure your arrangement to the base securely!
What is the name of greenery you used? I know one is eucalyptus. Thanks
I used Salal, also known as Lemon Leaf. It's a hardy green that gets good coverage, but since I made this video, I really love Leather Leaf more!
What would that greenery be called? I’m making artificial arrangements and want to find the most realistic greenery
The greenery is called Salal or Lemon Leaf!
How many stems are in the greenery bunches?! Helppp‼️ Thanks!!!
Unfortunately, they can't quantify greenery by stem count, they do it as a 'growers bunch', so it's more by weight. Unlike roses or ranunculus that have specific stem counts.
If you take a peep on our website you can see the bunch sizes as we take them in-house and hold them against our body to show scale. For this tutorial, I used one bunch of Salal and one bunch of Seeded Eucalyptus.
Hello! Are these jumbo hydrangeas? If not, what diameter are they?
They're not the jumbo variety, but they are the premium ones. I can say they came in huge, which isn't the norm. Typically they are about 25% smaller. I'm not sure of the diameter, I'm sorry!
Where can we purchase a similar vase and lomey bowel?
The vase is from Hobby Lobby, and you can find the Lomey bowl online. Flower Moxie will begin to sell all floral supplies and select vases within the month, so keep an eye out!
what adhesive strips did you use?
Oasis UGLU adheasive, but glue strips from a craft store will work just fine!
Hey there. Sorry if this is a silly question, but why do centrepieces generally use foam or chicken wire? Why cant I make a bouquet of flowers and put it in a vase with water? That way I can make the centrepieces ahead of the wedding
Also this is absolutely beautiful 😍😍😍
Not a silly question at all! Using any of these methods you can make the flowers ahead of time. Some styles of design, like this tall centerpiece, need to be done in separate pieces, to make them easier to transport and so they're not soooo heavy. However, depending on the type of vase and design you're doing you can absolutely just use a cool container and fresh water!
Hello can you provide a list of items you used to create this look?
The supply and flower list are at the beginning of the video, you may need to pause it! =)
What tape did you use?
Green Waterproof Atlantic or Oasis Floral Tape! Don't get the clear, I find it doesn't stick well.
can you link where you got all your materials?
We sell supplies now and carry everything I used in this video: flowermoxie.com/pages/supplies
What artificial flowers should I use?(:
I think faux roses and hydrangeas would work great! You could mix up the greenery, too. If you want to make it more life-like for an event, consider using real greenery like salal and mix in the faux!
What size and height vase are you using ?
I think it's a 20'' cylinder vase!
Where did you get those bowls from? Is that any clear tape?
The bowl is called a lomey design bowl and we sell them on flowermoxiesupply.com! They come in several different sizes depending on what you're using them for. There is clear floral tape but it's generally not as strong as the waterproof green/white kind. We recommend using the clear tape if you're working with a clear glass vessel where you won't want to see the mechanics of floral foam or chicken wire.
Where can you buy the small clear bowls?
I would google 6'' Lomey Bowl, and many places sell them!
I found mine at hobby lobby. 1.49 a piece
Jessica Sanders what aisle?
@@livelovehope28 it was on front wall by floral department. It is right by all the clear cylinder vase.
Jessica Sanders what were they called at hobby lobby? I am having a hard time finding them sold individually.
What are the dimensions of the bowl and vase?
It's a 24x4'' vase with a 6'' Lomey bowl! All of those hurricane vases are about the same in size, and you can find them at Hobby Lobby. =)
Thank you. Will it work with 17x5" vase and a 6" Lomey bowl?
Yup! Totes!
where I can buy stick tape???
Amazon, just look up 'Waterproof Floral Tape". The green works better than the clear, fyi. =)
how tall is the vase in the video?
I believe this vase was between 20-24''. Thank you!
Is this Jumbo Hydrangeas?
Nope, just our premium ones!
Where can I buy those plastic bowls?
They're called a Lomey Design bowl and you can find them on our Supply site at diyflowersupply.com/collections/vases
beautiful but unstable, based on my 30 years of flower design. without a counterweight at the bottom, it looks like it would tip over. Also, the small and shallow amount of floral foam used to hold the flowers at the top doesn’t seem adequate to me. I don’t think flowers that heavy would stay in place. I absolutely love the effect as photographed, but transporting it might cause it to tip over and the foam crumble.
These are all great things to consider when creating a tall stemless centerpiece and we talk about all of them in another one of our videos! Ensuring that the tall cylinder, or tall vessel you will be using is filled with water, helps to stabilize the arrangement so it doesn't tip over. Also, having the sticky florist putty or glue strips attached to the rim of the container assists in securing the lomey bowl. This all needs to be done on site at the venue, for ease of transport as well as to preserve the integrity of the arrangement. We make sure to tackle all of these issues in another one of our tutorials solely dedicated to this, cause there's a lot to consider when making one of these!
ehhh...did you spell-check your instruction before publishing?
Ha, probably, but spelling has never been my spiritual gifting! Did calling me out publically make your day better? Nonetheless, I hope my tutorials help you with your floral project. Best, Ames
70 dollars
As long as you don't get too heavy-handed, you can stretch that product!
Way too fast. Slow down.
We have real-time videos, too. =)
You lost me at $60-$70 per vase 😮
Big and tall arrangements like this take a lot of product so are definitely more expensive. A professional florist would mostly likely charge between $250-$300 for a tall vase arrangement like this! Lower vases such as bud vases or small compotes will definitely bring the cost down!
Also, this was about 6 years ago so prices are def higher. 🥰
What are the dimension measurements for the vase?
Why does she fill the tall vase with water, when the flower arrangement is designed in a dish with foam, it will not bring up front the vase. So it serves no purpose! I'm a professional florist, so I know! Unless she wants the water in the vase for the look of a vase full of water!
Correct, the foam and lomey bowl are serving as the water source. The water in the vase is meant to be decorative as it wasn't preferred to have the vase be empty. We hope you found the basic construction of this stemless centerpiece vase helpful and informative!
