Also I just gotta mention, one thing that's always stood out to me is that Nala is the very first lioness to charge in to fight after Scar confesses to murdering Mufasa. She really was ride or die! I was absolutely obsessed with her as a kid lol

The voices in this film are incredible; starting with Mufasa (James Earl Jones, who was the voice of Darth Vader among another epic roles), and Scar (Jeremy Irons).

I think that was a major difference between live action and animated Lion King. The live action focused more on people who could sing but not great at voice acting imo. But animated had great voice actors who only need them to be ok at singing and then edit it later.

"The Lion King" has many details in common with "Hamlet", the famous novel by Shakespeare. For me, it´s the best animated film ever, with one of the best OST ever composed (by the great Hans Zimmer). ALWAYS touches my heart in some scenes. It´s a truly masterpiece.

    • @kahlareacts
      @kahlareacts  3 місяці тому +5

Yes, but I’m so glad Simba got a happier ending than Hamlet. Also, Hans Zimmer is AMAZING!

@@kahlareacts Alright, a fellow Hans Zimmer fan in the flesh. It’s crazy to think on 2 things. 1: it’s been 30 years since this film came into existence and still holds on strong to this day. 2: Although he has done many scores before it, this is the one that marked him as an astonishing composer for winning an Oscar for it. Very ironic that he won his second one in Dune, considering that he made many more memorable scores in most movies that we can think of since then. Nevertheless, because of that, he has earned his place in the grand pantheon of musicians for the ages. Therefore, “Oh, I just can wait…” to see him perform his music live in my hometown next weekend. What a time to be alive!!!

It doesn't matter how many times I've seen this movie, the scene where Simba finds Mufasa dead in the gorge always gets me in the heart. Especially the fact that Scar gaslights Simba into thinking it was his (Simba's) fault and Johnathan Taylor Thomas' line delivery.
Also, I am very glad they cast James Earl Jones as Mufasa. As much as I respect the actor, they almost cast Christopher Walken.
Side note: Some of the character's names have meanings translated out of Swahili
    Simba: Lion
    Nala: Gift
    Mufasa: King
    Sarabi: Mirage
    Rafiki: Friend
    Pumbaa: Slow-Witted
    Zazu: Movement
    Shenzi: Savage
    Banzai: Skulk or lurk
    Taka (Scar's original name): Waste
Timon (His name actually comes from Greek): Respect or Honor
Side note: i love your lipstick

I will always have such a soft spot for the Disney Golden age of broadway musical style films that the late 80's, early-mid 90's gave us. Lion King well deserves its place at the top of that plinth.

🎶 "Yes, our teeth and ambitions are bared... Be Prepared!" 🎶
Fun Fact: The best-selling home video of all time, with more than 55 million copies sold to date.
Lion's Roar Fact: Frank Welker provided all the lion roars. Not a single recording of an actual lion roaring was used because the producers wanted specific sounding roars for each lion.
Method Actor Fact: While recording the scene where Simba gets pinned down by Nala (Niketa Calame-Harris), Jonathan Taylor Thomas was hit on his back to make it sound like he had just gotten the wind knocked out of him.
Royal Connections Fact: This is the second film in which James Earl Jones and Madge Sinclair perform together as an African King and Queen. Jones and Sinclair were also King and Queen of a fictional African nation in Coming To America (1988).
Music Enthusiast Fact: A few weeks before the film opened, Sir Elton John was given a special screening. Noticing that the film's love song had been left out, he successfully lobbied Jeffrey Katzenberg to have the song put back in. Later, Can You Feel The Love Tonight (1994) won him an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

For various reasons, I didn't see this movie until I was 18, so there's not really a nostalgia factor for me, but I can imagine it would have hit differently for me as a kid. In any case, it's thoroughly enjoyable as an adult and I'm with you on the soundtrack. Hans Zimmer is a genius.

References to other movies, in case you don't recognize them: when Jeremy Irons as Scar says "You have no idea," both the line and the delivery echo his most famous line from Reversal of Fortune, for which he won his Oscar. And when Pumbaa says "Are you talking to me?", followed by "They call me Mr. Pig," he is echoing Taxi Driver, followed by In the Heat of the Night. Does anybody know any other references in this movie that I didn't recognize?

You know, after re-watching this film as an adult, like a few years back, I realized why a lot of bad guys, in real life, don't get caught. It was what was mentioned in the reaction review, it's the manipulation and, plus, letting others doing the dirty bits of the job, so others can't link it directly to the person who was the master mind.

Fun fact, Jeremy Irons' voice gave out halfway through recording "Be Prepared", so the second half of the song was recorded by Jim Cummings doing an impression. You can tell by how he sounds noticeably more gravelly toward the end. Still, I never would have noticed if someone hadn't pointed it out to me.
Suggestions for animated movies, eh? Hmm... ParaNorman, Kubo and the Two Strings, Tokyo Godfathers (a great Christmas movie), Song of the Sea, The Hobbit (1977), The Last Unicorn, The Flight of Dragons (more James Earl Jones), Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro

The Lion King (Simba) vs Kimba the White Lion. Similarities: Both cartoons are lions cubs coming of age. Their fathers were murdered. Scar is the villain in the Lion King and Claw is the villain in Kimba the White Lion. Hyenas in both stories who are henchmen to the main villains. Simba and Kimba both have friends who are mandrills and birds. Simba's love interest is Nala and Kimba's love interest is Kitty.

    The great James Earl Jones.
There are similarities between his deliveries when Mufasa appears for Simba and when Vader interact with Luke.
Vader: If you only knew the power of the dark side, I must obey my master!
Search your feelings, you know it to be true!
Join me and together we can rule the galaxy as father and son!
Mufasa: You are more then you have become!
You must take your place in the circle of life!
    Remember who you are!
You are my son and the one true king!

Great reaction. I never want to say a movie is a perfect, but if not, The Lion King is about as close to it as any movie can get.
If you're looking for more animated movies, I always recommend "Your Name." It's one of my top 10 movies period, not just animated. It's a movie from Japan released in 2016. It's a little difficult to describe without getting into spoiler territory, but it's about two young teens learning to see the world through each others eyes. Most definitely recommend. And the dubbed and original subbed version are both great.

Amazing rewatch! I really would love to watch or rewatch the rest of the franchise! I’d do it in this order: The Lion King, The Lion King 1 1/2, The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride, and The Lion King Live Action. There is a tv series called The Lion Guard, which follows Simba and Nala’s second born Kion as he becomes the leader of the Lion Guard and protect the Pridelands from their enemies; it takes place during The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride and not long after its ending. Also here’s some trivia; Hyenas are actually part of the feline family and a clan of hyenas are led by a female. Also in the original storyline, they actually had planned for Scar to find Simba besides Mufasa in distraught. Scar would pick him up by the mouth and attempt to kill him. Only to be interrupted by Sarabi and the lionesses, and they would’ve thought Scar had saved him. Simba would grow with Scar being his adviser. However, the production team thought it would best for him to run away in shame, so he’d be more humble and actually grew up from his carefree life style to take his place. 🦁👑🖤💛🧡❤️

Such a beautiful reactor, and one of my favorite animated films. Hard to believe it's 30 years old this year. I love the songs Be Prepared and I Just Can't Wait to be King. Aladdin is also a great film, that came out a couple years earlier (1992). WALL-E is another great, slightly more recent (2008) movie you should watch. You should also check out some of the old classic Disney animated films, like The Jungle Book (1967). I'm a big fan of claymation stop-motion animation. Two movies I'll recommend are The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), a great movie for Halloween, and Coraline (2009). However, the master of claymation is, by far, the British writer/director Nick Park who's released a series of four Academy Award winning Wallace and Gromit short films. Together, they would make a great reaction video. He's also responsible for Chicken Run (2000).
