I love Trevor's perspective in his interviews but when he asked that they remove 'plus' from models, I melted. I am so very supportive of this! If I knew a fashion magazine would have racial diversity and body diversity I'd buy it. Add some older models and it is everything it always should have been.
I never thought of the plus size thing but yes, thank you trevor, I appreciate you or your writers asking that❤️

I think that was one of those things you become aware of once you’ve talked to models in the industry. Plus size is a category to the model and fashion industry, it isn’t the norm and is still sectioned off from everything else because having plus sizes is seen as a bonus not a bare minimum.
It’s nice to see that, out of view he is listening to every type of person.

@@amehka5416. My maternal ancestors were of west African ancestry (Guinea-Bissau) and I disagree with your reply here's why. The term "African Americans" relates to the descendants of Africans brought to the Americas and the Caribbean, hence the term now used to describe our connection; diaspora. Moreover, the term "Black is racist in nature when used to define a people as if they have no origin, history, or culture. We,(those who accept our lineage beyond enslavement) are more than a " color' that has meanings in opposition to the Caucasus" white" people. This gentleman stated why his representation matters and how he's using it to create a more equitable representation of women, particularly, the women of our culture.

Ghanaians more than any other Africans have a level of self love and pride that means they far more willing to stand up to racism and oppression because they do not have an inferiority complex. Even colonial Europeans centuries ago talked about how hard it was to manipulate Ghanaians and deemed them the smartest of African peoples. Ghanaians came up with the first concepts of black power and pan-Africanism and it was Ghanaians descendant slaves that started revolution in Jamaica, including Marcus Garvey and Suriname. And Ghanaian tribes even defeated Britain at the height of imperial power. It is that self pride is why Ghana has one of the most stable and successful societies in all of Africa and you can see that typical Ghanaian self-love and willingness to stand up to racism in Edward
Right on the money but it's more so about the Ashanti people who are also the largest ethnic group in Ghana.

In an industry about ranges of beauty that represent and interact with the entire populous and effect pretty much everyones perception it’s a commercial area facing alot of difficulty adapting. The interests behind all of the beauty industry that can be resistant to adaptation are varied and deep seated even when traditionally they can also lead an effective charge on changing stereotypes. You always see alot of that charge in a space that’s harder to even think of getting it through. For alot of newer people (or smarter ones) the push for adaptation seems to be sink or swim and that can polarize the entire area. Mostly for the sake of money. I feel like there are a great many representations which are being pushed in fashion and beauty than industries which should have nothing to do with aesthetics at all, but people who work in the background of beauty have nothing to do with it’s face. Still, our face should represent our background and our background should be composed of everyone. I believe adaptation can sometimes necessitate adoption. There are people out there who fit the moulds you’re looking to fill, but it is hard to make them come to you when they might not even think they have a chance or if they have no way to get to you. You have to make them know they do have one and that even if they’re not a perfect fit in one spot, there’s probably somewhere else they are and you can’t necessarily wait for change to come to you. You have to recruit. Opportunity is supposed to knock. When I look on the magazine shelves I see more representation now than I ever have and you see leaders really trying to push for the idea of sustainability too. Big money and big problems, but huge impact.

Hi Trevor, would love to see a video from you on the “racist” backlash to Rings of Power. I have watched many consumer reviews since its release and the complaints surround pacing, bad dialogue, and an unfaithful adaptation of the work, not the inclusion of brown people. Why are fans being called racist?
And also, why is it racist to whitewash a character but not to blackwash? Racism is on the rise in the white community, but I feel it stems from being unfairly called a “racist” when white people raise the same complaints as black people and the blackwashing of canonically white characters and not from any feeling that black people are somehow lessor.
It is easy to understand that coloured actors need more opportunities and I agree with that! But what about coloured scriptwriters? And costume designers? And directors? Can Hollywood start creating more original stories that feature diversity from conception? Instead of remaking old stories and blackwashing white characters? This sort of thing is generating racism, not correcting it. And Hollywood used to make new stories, market them well, and get millions of dollars for their efforts.
Wow did anyone notice how quiet the audience got when Ed said he wants to see black people given more opportunitys in all levels of the fashion industry. Not bc they don't agree, but since his response specifically only included people of color they just weren't as excited. TheDailyShow might need more diversity in its audience. Wonder if Edward felt deja vu after recalling his experience of being sat in the second row?
