Motorcycle Carbon Fibre Vinyl Wrap - Fairing

  • Not happy with my bikes plasticky looking silver paintwork, I decided to cover it in plasticky looking silver Carbon Fibre effect Vinyl! Trying to create a more 'heavy' utilitarian look with minimal cost or permanent painting I turned to eBay for my materials and took a day off work.
    At a cost of 12 Euro and a days faffing, this is the result!
    The red tape that I used to cut the vinyl is called Wrap-Cut. You can get it here: amzn.to/2XrwckN
    Or 3M has their own version here: amzn.to/2zVVeiY
    Follow me on Twitter: @andymancam
    The final video was edited Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13.

    Great effort, it's really good to see close up footage of wrapping the different angles and edges, which a lot of these types of videos lack.. The tank and fairing look amazing well done.

      @AndyManCam  8 років тому

      So right!! There were moments where a large area just laid down so easily and it felt great. Then a corner would take 50 tries and an hour to get flat!! That flossy stuff is absolutely brilliant! Makes any hack (like me) look vaguely professional!

    this helps coz I just finished attempting to wrap the bottom left fairing of my ninja 650 and they're almost the same as the Versys but I took the fairing off. big mistake. keep it on the bike and it's a lot easier. I failed wrapping it twice hahaha. try again tomorrow.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  7 років тому

      Oh yes. I considered taking the fairing off to make it easier. But it definitely helps to leave it on the bike as you don't have to hold it still! I hope the second try worked better!

    • @mitchellward5739
      @mitchellward5739 7 років тому +1

      It was all terrible. It was all too hard. I've watched all these people wrap in carbon and matte colors which are easier because it's thicker and easier to mould around edges whereas the colour I chose is thin and not very resistant to heat when applying. So my bike is still undergoing wrapping 4 weeks into it as it's just way too hard.

    • @HeroofSomething
      @HeroofSomething 7 років тому

      I am taking the fairings off but will have something hold them up from the center so I don’t struggle as much. I sort of don’t want to take them off but I feel like it will be more of a hassle leaving them on and having to move things around and worry about the bike in general.

    Andy Man, May I ask you if you can guide me on replacing the headlight bulb to an LED bulb I got, I think that I need to remove the whole front headlamp, any ideas?

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  8 років тому

      +morun29 I guess that entirely depends on the type of bulb! If it won't fit in through the H7 hole in the back then sadly yes! Luckily I've made a video about how to dismantle your headlight! 😂 Also beware of creating an illegal headlight as many of the LED bulbs create dangerous and dazzling patterns as the reflector is not designed for them. Something to bear in mind.

    • @morun29
      @morun29 8 років тому

      Is a high quality LED bulb that doesn't burn people's eyes but is a little difficult to reach low bean so I rather to bring down the headlight. Do you mind show me the url for the video you made?

  • @morun29

    I like the end product cuz you made a great job, but I dont love the vinil, did you consider to take the parts to a water transfer printing (I know is more expensive but it looks amazing)
    By the way, have you ever consider selling that versys to get a new one? I love mine but always think is an old model considering the new one looks sick!

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  8 років тому

      I'd consider the hydro dipping route, but sadly I just don't have the cash to spend more. It was just to be a quick bit of a change for not much money.
      I think if I sold the Versys, I would consider something else. I don't think there is enough of a difference between the old on and the new one to justify the cost. As long as mine is still working!

    • @morun29
      @morun29 8 років тому

      I think I will like to do a couple small plastic parts with hydro transfer eventually.
      I will like to buy the Honda Crossrunner or the amazing new africa twin :)
      But you are right, my versys works just fine, is a good bike

    would it be easier using a nylon spreader to chase the bubbles out?

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  8 років тому

      I tried last time and found that due to the texture on the carbon the spreader snagged and creased the vinyl more than I liked. Also I felt more in control with fingers. Not to mention it stops you from overheating the vinyl. If it doesn't burn your fingers, it won't harm the vinyl.
