    So Impressive. The finish and the execution. I got cold sweats watching it let alone doing it. Gonna wrap my tank panels on XSR900 after watching this. It’s going to be easier prospect than this but no doubt tense. Thank you for a brilliant video.

    I was going through the same pain with my tank. After wasting 2 complete sheets, I asked a friend to help me out. We heated up the tank and the vinyl and streched it over the tank holding the vinyl from two sides. That worked out very well, although the detailing still took quite some time

    • @bremerd_de
      @bremerd_de 5 років тому +1

      The brushed design looks really great - I#m thinking of starting all over using that stuff.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  5 років тому

      Totally agree. The effect is well worth the faff! I’ve seen a few videos of folks enlisting a friend or two and doing the heated sheet-stretch method and I definitely think thats the best way to get a good start.

    Great job on your tank wrap Version 2! Suggestion for you pinstripes? Try Matt Black instead, and reduce the thickness down to 3mm. Reckon that'll look sharp, finishing off the brushed steel additions nicely. Looks much better than the carbon 👍

      I totally agree chaps. Matt stripes would certainly fit the style a lot better. Thinner would be more subtle. Not sure about the coloiur though. I have no other real colour accents to match up with. It's a monochrome moto!

      Think I will Andy , you make it look very easy and I’m certain it is very tricky, but it’s trial and error I guess, it’s just deciding what colour as I have a white tank and black frame so not so sure, maybe a bit of carbon to go with the pipe or gloss black panels 🤔 the haircut soots you sir, I’ve got a teapotone look and love it, I’d look like a potato without a beard , don’t know why mine fell out, maybe from being indecisive about tank colours and rubbing my head to much 😅

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  5 років тому

      Hahaha! I think that ironically it might have been the stress of vinyl wrapping that caused mine to fall out!! Definitely trial and error though mate. You'll either get a feel for it, or you wont. Just expect the first few attempts to go slightly sideways and then if they don't, you're winning!

    Since you become kind of expert, can you give a little advice?
    How bad is peeling vinyl after a few years?
    I have Bmw r1200gs adventure 2008 and planing to cower tank and front peak with army green matt vinyl. It is pretty easy job because i have onli top of tank to cover.
    My main concern is that i have sticker gs1200 on tank and need to put vinyl over that stickers. It is factori sticker but not under paint.
    If y cover that sticker do you think it will be possible to take vinil away one day without lose that stickers

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  5 років тому

      It all depends how well its prepared and applied. I did a shoddy job on my versys with cheap vinyl and after 2 years the edges were all a bit curly and lifting. Yet I’ve heard of folks having pro jobs that looked like new after 3-4 years. I don’t think you’ll have any trouble with the stickers though. They’re most likely clearcoated over, if they came from the factory.

    I constantly hear and read, that the VINYL WRAP protects and saves the vehicle's paint job.
    How can it adhere well enough to the paint beneath (adhesives) without causing damage? Particularly when parked under the sun's intense rays and heat?
    Just leaving BLUE MASKING TAPE on my RUSTOLEUM CAN PAINT JOB for about 3 weeks was sufficient to cause damage to it's once glossy smooth surface.

      @AndyManCam  Рік тому +1

      The longer you leave it on, the harder it is to get off. But the products usually have a max time recommended before it should be removed. I’ve never had any issues and the paint always looks like new underneath. Modern adhesives are simply magic!

      @kevinbell1138 correct. I guess all bets are off with aftermarket. Although the paint was fine on my Honda CB1000R and that was the softest, cheesiest paint I’ve ever seen.

    Looks very nice AMC, your getting very good at this game. (Little advise, use the knifeless tape on ALL cuts, even if it can't be seen. With a blade you can cut through the paint and undercoat, which can in time let water get to the metal resulting in rust).

      Sadly not as durable as the real thing obviously. I've already scratched it in a few places getting on and off. Might be a finish that needs regular refreshing, or perhaps even a clearcoat on top.

      I totally disagree! I’ve painted some stuff and unless you’ve got the perfect space and conditions, it always looks home made! With vinyl wrapping, i can have a new color every season and then return to stock whenever i want to. Plus doing it yourself, it’s far cheaper. 30-50€ and the tank has a whole new look. The Honda CB1000R is about to get it’s first vinyl re-style.
