Not only is he scaring every musician in the world to death, he has the balls to make the video really entertaining and even funny when he checks himself out soloing on trombone. Like the young Jacob Collier from England, Morrison is a freak (in the best sense of the word) of nature. Leave a little talent for the rest of us, man. The only thing I don't know for sure is whether he wrote the chart, too. Anyone know?
That's gonna be me one day. I'm already recording all of the instruments on my songs. Need to get back into brass though... Haven't played brass since Sophomore year in high school.
The lead alto player sounded great, but the second tenor player needs to be replaced. PS, anyone know who that was on 1st trumpet? He really carried the section.
you know, I was actually thinking all the 1sts need to communicate more on articulations. They should practice together more to help each other understand one anothers style better.
If this were the early 60's Morrison would be a household name. Just loving this amazing artist . Makes me just want to shout and live live live live .. So many great players out there with real taste and chops, waiting to be discovered . YIPPEE!
It is most unfortunate that we will not be able to ever hear this band "LIVE". This would be a tough stunt to take on the road. Great commitment to the craft and musicianship Mr. Morrison!
I love the detail how the stage lighting misses the baritone saxophone - a classic! :D And yes: Great, high-end work, much fun to listen to and to watch - thanks!
> Love his tone. Not to dark not to bright just perfect < I second that ! Plus this recording and video are superb .... this project should carry Mr Morrison from stardom to super-stardom status in no time especially considering the present day power of youtube, facebook etc. .... kudos to JM. !
James "The Superman of Jazz" Morrisson has so much talent it is ridiculous! He can play pretty much every instrument at a stupidly talented level! I wish I had a fraction of his talent.
I have played trumpet and piano, so at least I know how reading music of transposing instrument, at least a B-flat instrument like trumpet and tenor sax. But James Morrison could also do so with alto and bari sax, which is E-flat instrument, and also reading the bass clef with trombone. I think that's also incredible skill to be able to sight read music for different instruments, and that's also a great skill along with ability to play the instruments.
Wonderfully enjoyable big band sound. lovely ensemble sections with fabulous solo runs, and all played by one man - amazing without being too deep in jazz terms. All credit to the drummer too who plays just right.
The song is called Zog's Jog, and it was the test piece one year for a jazz festival in Australia that James Morrison hosts. I never played it, but I remember hearing it :)
And so a meme will be born! This is already reached George Collier, only a matter of time until it reaches the rest of the internet, and all the better for it!
This man must be an alien, there has never been a human that I ever heard play like this man in my life of 79 years, and a former trombone player who in 1957 told John Coltrane, some day I'm going to articulate playing like he did on my Favorite things.Well I didn't get there.I truly believe James could. I tip my hat to you.
Astounding accomplishment ! ... congratulations Mr. Morrison ... hard to decide which solo I like best but I am leaning toward the trombone ( I play trombone so I must be a bit biased ) ...headed over to iTunes thanks ..great project ...wishing you continued success and as a good friend used to say ... 'may the bop be with you and the boogie too' :o) ps ...surely this makes the Guinness Book of World Records right ? JAZZ JAZZ and more Jazz BTW did I mention Jazz love it !
At the Wangaratta Jazz Festival a few years ago he did a concert with the pianist Joe Chindamo - at one stage Joe Chindamo got out his piano accordian with the comment it was the only instrument he could play that James Morrison couldn't!
to those asking about the lack of 'more' Jeff Hamilton shots in the video.... Jeff wasn't actually at the video shoot, James just shot some 'wild' footage of Jeff in L.A. and then Thomas Zeller put him 'in' afterwards. This meant they could only use a very few shots that would fit with the track musically.
Get you a girl who looks at you the way James Morrison looks at James Morrison.
Trevor Gagnon owo so true
This comment killed me
ded, abosutely ded
Hell yeah! Xd
Rotfling on the floor laughing
this is possibly my favourite musical meme
george collier wassup
One man and a drummer, I always knew drummers weren't real people lol. Fantastic performance
When will you?? Do so quickly
at the end the camera just pans over to an audience full of james morrisons clapping and cheering
Peak.
Would the real James Morrison please stand up?
:u
Meneer Menerenson tell me :

I think he did write the chart, yes. And YES +1 for Jacob Collier.
i would like to see them both playing together
That's gonna be me one day. I'm already recording all of the instruments on my songs. Need to get back into brass though... Haven't played brass since Sophomore year in high school.
Lol yeah should only take a couple of weeks and you'll be on par
Jamss did write this chart, based it on Ray Noble's Cherokee
id like to see a live concert of this
That can be done with computers and projection, they did it with Natalie and Nat King Cole.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 nice one
The lead alto player sounded great, but the second tenor player needs to be replaced. PS, anyone know who that was on 1st trumpet? He really carried the section.
yea james morrison was really good, and i agree that james morrison wasn't on his best
PS: 1st trumpet was James Morrison
@Barak Dosunmu good eye, everyone keeps saying 1st trumpet is James Morrison but he's actually James Morrison
😅🤣😂
you know, I was actually thinking all the 1sts need to communicate more on articulations. They should practice together more to help each other understand one anothers style better.
James, my favorite parts are when you give yourself the look of mutual respect and joy at the beginning of each of your solos. ;-)
Dig. :-)
+Dennis Mitcheltree , me too, so realistic.
The (so far) 25 people who have 'disliked' this.... whatever you're smoking stop it now as it's clearly doing you considerable damage.
na they aren't smoking anything they're just jealous
Boy, I agree. It might have been better if the 25 people could share what they didn't like about it.
well its 69 now
i thought this video was going to be boring (because i have to watch it for a home work assignment)
now i cant stop watching its so good tbh
It's the standard YT troll 1-2% dislikes.
Little do we know there are actually just 16 James Morrisons
I know! It’s like he totally cloned himself!
the person who recorded this did a very good job. not only is the music well performed and catchy, it's fun to watch as well.
absolutly
That moment when you realize James Morrison is in every thigng better than you.
even typing :)
@@CarlyWaarly Haha yeah I wrote this comment when I was in grade 9. I think I am more eloquently spoken now. ( English isn't my native language)
Yes, he is like asian kids
probably not though because if you are this good in something you are probably overcompensating for being weak in other areas
Nothing, and nobody compare to him. He is THE allround Jazz-Genius of our times.
Unbelievable, but true!
Mali Song Yes, Thomas Gansch said that he only knows of two people that don't need to practice, and James Morrison was one of them
If this were the early 60's Morrison would be a household name. Just loving this amazing artist . Makes me just want to shout and live live live live .. So many great players out there with real taste and chops, waiting to be discovered . YIPPEE!
Love this guy. I wonder if he'll let anyone else in the band
I'm loving how the other James Morrisons smile and groove with the solos played by James Morrison.
I love the way he admires his own trombone solo!!!
Bruh Morrison is just a different breed
Good luck touring this show!
It is most unfortunate that we will not be able to ever hear this band "LIVE". This would be a tough stunt to take on the road. Great commitment to the craft and musicianship Mr. Morrison!
James did a good job with the cornet solo. (Along on the trombone) he still sounds beautiful.
A remarkably talented musician and with a great sense of humour. I loved his work with the Doors. This really lights my fire.
Jame's trumpet solo is so amazing at 1:31, i cant stop rewatching it
James' you mean
Fuck that sounds, clarity of the trumpet is amazing!
This is why I love James Morrison... He is not only a technical master... HE IS FUN!!!
I love how James Morrison is just vibin' with James Morrison.
I love the detail how the stage lighting misses the baritone saxophone - a classic! :D
And yes: Great, high-end work, much fun to listen to and to watch - thanks!
You have to be a natural talent to be able to do that. I play trumpet and a bit of piano, but I can't imagine playing so many instruments
The small touches like looking up at the version playing the solo, and having two different alto saxes is just amazing. Great song and recording
Человек - оркестр. Суперское звучание, получила огромное удовольствие. спасибо.
Amazing!! Came from George Collier's transcription
I love him enjoying listening to and watching himself play his solos. Great stuff.
> Love his tone. Not to dark not to bright just perfect <
I second that ! Plus this recording and video are superb .... this project should carry Mr Morrison from stardom to super-stardom status in no time especially considering the present day power of youtube, facebook etc. .... kudos to JM. !

Great God given talent. Great job James!
He has the sweetest sound i've ever heard I love it so much'
Now perhaps, all you "cats" will realize just how difficult drums are to play. Tee hee..Thanks Jeff Hamilton. James is a monster.
"I stick to music." -James Morrison
I have played trumpet and piano, so at least I know how reading music of transposing instrument, at least a B-flat instrument like trumpet and tenor sax.

I love when he looks at the other while playing solo :D
Clearly, this guy went though the talent line several times. Wow. Congrats to Jim!
Truly remarkable. James is one of my heroes. He personifies talent and hard work. I have seen him live, and he is entertaining as well. Outstanding!
i just want to watch this all day
I really love the parts where James Morrison is watching James Morrison solo 😂😂

Very sweet trumpet sound.
nâo entendo como têm alguém quê nâo gosta desse Belo músico e esse arranjo dê cheroki.
