I've ridden shock pads since I was a kid. I've never had a problem with my hardware loosening up because they absorb sooo much vibration. You can feel the difference in your feet also.

I thought shock risers were a gimmick for a long time. When I bought my current setup I tried a set, they definitely smooth out the ride.

      What size are them wheels

52mm with a pair of high trucks (Venture preferably). I never rode bigger than 53mm. The shock pads are only there to soften the ride/keep my bolts from rattling.

Get the rubbery small risers, same size but not hard plastic. Less vibration and smoother ride.
    Little to no wheel bite.

Bought my kid a nice setup for his Santa Claus gift skate and added the independent 1/8 risers.

The pop does change. It probably requires a bit more effort, the angle will be steeper and the pop should be ever so slightly late. Assuming it doesn't get too steep, then yes it could pop higher. I don't think you should hang up more easily actually, because that's mostly a technique thing. It happens without riser pads too, depending on just technique. And these couple of mm in height shouldn't matter too much.
When it comes to feeling less connected to grinds, yes that's true. Using riser pads will definitely 'feel higher', because it is. It takes some getting used to.

Good review. I’m considering running 58’s on 9.5 Slappy trucks. Would you go 1/4 or 1/8?

I have to use risers. I’m a thicc boi so not using them limits me to like 52mm wheels at the most.

why not consider shockpads? same thing just one is a jelly plastic. helps with vibrations and with impact

i would never skate without riser pads. they increase the distance between the wheel and deck so you can run your trucks looser, turn tighter and not cake it from wheel bite.

Never used them but I'll give it a shot I'm only 5'6" and always thought the extra distance for my foot to travel to the ground would throw me off

I'm 5'7 my setups 9.25'' deck 58mm wheels and 1/4'' risers. I have no problem flipping or popping it higher. It just take you some times to adjust

Where as others would say they are nothing more than just another riser, and do nothing for actual impact.

They do make a difference. I only skate street and the spots here are super rough and they definitely suck up the vibration. They don't do much for impact, but they do smooth out the ride a bit.

I skate mid trucks with 54mm wheels, no risers, but then one of my friends has high trucks with 2 sets of risers, there is like a 1.5ft difference in height between us
