    Cheers Fupabox, changed out the fluid in my 100k mile ML 270 CDI today. Could have been the original fluid although it was a yellow / black colour definately the original filter and gasket though. It took about 3.75 litres to replace what I emptied out. Car runs a lot smoother, had been having issues with torque converter slipping when accelerating in 4/5 gears. it's not perfect but a huge improvement. Thanks for your guide, it certainly gave me the motivation to get the job done. All the best, Mark.

    The drain and measure method works every time and I’ve been using that method for years and never had a problem when refilling the transmission.

    I am so happy you made this video, I have been trying to decide if i should do a fluid change. Everybody keeps giving me mixed answers, Yes its a good idea or no it will make the transmission start slipping. I think they assume when i say change fluid they seem to think i want to flush the system but i want to do it the same way you did it. Just drain the pan & replace what came out with a new filter.

    Hi fupabox, you have to watch for your transmission now, I changed oil & filter on a 98 E320 with 180k km that had original fluid in it and in 3 days had the filter plugged, So if you hear a whistling sound don't panic just drop the pan and change the filter. I had to do it 3 times until the transmission oil got cleared from all the crap in it, first time when it happened took the valve body apart, but didn't find anything in it, i guess the filter does what it supposed to do.
    Also watch for RPM fluctuation, i still didn't figure out what it was, i had the rpm going up and down +/-100 rpm on low throttle (i suspected the throttle body or the TC lock-up clutch), but eventually it cured itself.
    Looks like new fluid washed all the deposits in the TC and around the transmission case.
    Good luck with this car.

      Thanks for the awesome advice. Just pointed me in a good direction as to what might be making the noise in my moms car, not a merc but the transmission makes a whistling/ high pitch whine when under a bit of load.

      More of a problem if the fluid looks very dirty and hasn't ever been changed. youre just mixing really thin (new) fluid with thick cruddy (old) oil, which is a bad idea and can cause your transmission to slip

    MaxLife is a wonderful ATF, I use it in everything. The 722.4 actually seems to like it as well. But you'll see people debate it's "specification" for 722.6s on forums until the cows come home. It works very well in the 722.6. At least Mercedes still gave you a dipstick tube, with the newer cars (from any manufacturer) the lab coats, IR thermometers, bubble levels, etc come into play.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  6 років тому +1

      yeah people debate it for sure .. A Benz specialist I completely trust , says it is what he uses ..so that's good enough for me . The whole temperature/fluid volume difference is why I decided to do it this way . If the new and old fluids are the same temp, and as long as the level was good after a long drive the night before..then the only thing needed is to measure .. worked perfectly..no thermometer lol .No labcoat either :)

    Just did this job today, encountered the same issue with the drain bolt being stripped and torqued to an absurd amount. Believe it or not, I managed to break it loose using a cheap Black and Decker screw extractor set, #5 bit. Totally didn't expect it to work but it was between that and dropping the pan full of fluid, new bolt in and all good now.

    Hey there FB. Gettin any decent weather yet? Anyway I want to change the oil seal on the final drive(differential) on the 97 C230. The manual says it is too complex and requires it to be taken apart but from what I can see u take off the flex plate mark and unscrew the main diff nut then pry out the seal and replace it. Being extremely careful to put the nut back where it was. Then Advance site says that the diff flange must be replaced new bolts ect. I replaced the front crankshaft seal no problem there so is there a big deal or is it easier than shown to be? Maybe time for new flex plates anyway TY

    I have a 2004 ML320 so basically when adding Transmission fluid just fill fluid in the tube in back of engine? I was thinking you had to pump transmission fluid underneath into pan but I like the fact just pour transmission fluid down the tube in the engine. 😊

    Question. Just a regular old oil change on our ml430 tonight. The oil filter holder thing broke into 2 pieces, well actually 3 the cap is separated too, the bottom shaft part I just left in there for now and changed the filter and other o rings and put it back, good to drive for a bit until I can replace the whole assembly?

    • @fupabox

      honestly not sure on that one ..it may not be doing much filtering but there will be new oil in the engine. I would be worried about a piece separating and blocking the oil draindown to the sump

    Hi Fupa ! Saludos desde Argentina ! Thank you as always for the content and help ! Im gonna do this on my 722.6(c280 w202 m112). So right now i discovered the atf is low by checking it with an DIY oil dipstick. If i emty the pan, the filter and let it drain just like you did. It would be right saying that if i put the same amount of atf that you put in the transmission gonna work for me? Lets say i take out 3,2Lts.. shuold i go right to 3,8Lts(you put 4Lts) and start using the car to messure at right temperature? Im gonna have to use Valvoline MaxFife for this trans. Hope the mixing of this with wathever my trans atf have inside dont fuck it up jajaa You are like a mercedes heaven beautiful gift. Thanks a lot.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  6 років тому +2

      It's best to measure the amount that comes out .. It can be different depending on the temperature outside. Just make sure the new and old fluid are the same temperature, and you will be fine . After replacing the same amount that came out , drive 10 minutes and check level. Likely need to add a tiny bit. I've done it this way for the last 2 years , and it's always needed a bit more added once measured after the warm up. Odd

    Good afternoon brother. I'm so happy you made this video. I did not know I could use the Valvoline Max life. Is it the same for the 2002 ml320? It's a coincidence that I was just looking into buying the febi trans fluid. Also I was thinking, maybe to try and get that bolt off for next time you can buy a very cheap torx socket and JB weld it to the bolt and try to take it off that way. Thanks again brother.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  5 років тому

      i haven't done a vid on the upper dash wood strip, but I can tell you its held on with screws from under the dash .. You remove by popping the right passenger side end (3-4 inches from the end ) out toward you about 1/2 inch or so .don't pull too hard... use a plastic trim tool or popsicle stick to wedge the end out ..there is a toothed stud that pops into a hole at that right end .. .. then slide the whole strip towards the right and it should come out straight back towards you

      I was told by a dealer mechanic that it was unnecessary as long as you changed the fluid once in awhile ,you would be getting 70% new fluid every time . In a transmission designed to be filled for life , the 60-70% replacement was more than adequate .

      Sounds like the Key isn't being recognized by the computer any longer . You can give this a try .
      Key out of ignition , remove negative ,then positive battery cables (in that order ) then take the 2 disconnected cables and hold the ends touching each other for 1 minute ( be sure not to touch the battery posts with the metal cable ends while doing this )
      After the one minute hook up the positive cable only to the battery ...insert the key into the ignition with out turning it . just insert it and close all doors (make sure theyre unlocked so you can get back in ) then hook up the negative cable to the battery. The car should recognize the key now . Fingers crossed . Let me know if it works
