It might be a good idea to show this game to KuruHS as Split Second is one of his favourite games and he said he would love to see something like that again. He just started the 2021 edition of his yearly Racing Marathon on Twitch and played Split Second today.

Might need to expand the game to at least a few tracks, 3 or 4 might be enough. Although its a very, very good strategy, since as far as i know hes the only Racing streamer Who does enjoy split second a lot

Looks like an ambitious game, and you have made a lot of progress towards it. As someone aspiring to be a game dev, this is amazing to see.
I would go one of 2 ways.
    1. try to get more attention on the game and your team. For example, I saw your comment on Whitelight's video on "Split Second". I bet if you commented there and managed to get a pinned comment, or him to talk about you, even on a community post, you would get a lot of gamers and enthusiasts to back your project. This would mean increased attention for all of you, for good (Monetary backing in early access purchases, and constructive criticism) and for bad ( People will be following the development closely, and start to get impatient. That you may make you feel that you have to rush the game, and will only spell doom). It is a hard thing to balance, but great way if you want to dedicate completely to the project.
    2. Wait it out for some time. Develop smaller games to finance this huge project. Plus you can experience more and find new tools to work with that may make it easier on you to develop "Close Call" later down the line, while also working on other viable products.
I feel there is a lack of a good arcade racer, in the way of the old "Burnout" games. And i've seen a lot of big passion projects get stuck and later abandoned due to burnout, (Pun not intended), Rjiig's acceleracers game comes to mind. Whatever you do in the future, I wish you success my friend. It's been a pleasure to witness the love and care you have put into this game.
    cheers

the comment above you (Mikołaj Kuliński's one) talk about kuru, who just play split/second less than a week ago, keep that in mind because kuru have split/second in his favorite racing games, good luck I really hope that you can finish the game

As a SSV superfan, you have my respects. It may not be a triple A super 4K HD blah blah blah game, but you got the spirit, and that (Hopefully) will get you somewhere great.

Bless you, buddy for doing something like this. I'm a huge fan of Split Second and for a few weeks I've been working on some music for menus and racing inspired by it and Full Auto 2 and I'm super glad I'm not the only one that wants more of this kind of stuff.
I really hope this project goes well and gets the attention that Split Second didn't and also because I really love crazy racing games like this! I'm rooting for you guys.

Although I might not be able to offer support in any way, I want to see this passion project gets more recognition and maybe you might be able to get more help that way. I would assume you would have tried to spread the message that you are making this game by now. Hopefully you are able to get more manpower behind the team to finish this project. 👍

Love this!!! Maybe talking to UA-cam channels about indie games could give you more visibility to earn some coin to keep that momentum going, I think about smaller versions of car games channels like slaptrain for example or blackpanthaa and keep growing slowly but continously you hear what the community likes and needs and that’s key to succeed in this gaming industry

This is probably a dated representation by now, but I'm excited to see how this game will turn out. My current two gripes that I can tell just by looking at your gameplay is that the cars seem generally too slow (which would likely be fixed once more fleshed out tracks are started) and you seem to still be using Unity's legacy render pipeline, which has a distinctly pale look that I don't think looks fitting for this kind of game. If you haven't already, I would recommend you update your Unity version to the 2021 LTS version (which will be easy if you already use Unity Hub) so that you can take advantage of the newer features and have your game be a little more optimized in general. Regardless, good luck to you and I hope that this will look much much better in the next 4 years or so

I thought I heard you say you were able to get into the code of the original game 🤔😅? I was only able to get into the meshes and partially the tracks.
After some long delay, I've picked up my project again. Needed a new computer, as my laptop couldn't handle what the newer Unreal Engines had to offer. Seems like we're doing the same, but with different approaches and elements/design.
Although Unreal makes a lot of stuff easier, it's still a learning curve (since I don't have a game-devlopment background).Hardest thing seems to be using simulated physics and turn them into arcade-handling.
    Small steps.
    Cheers.

    • @DethKwok

@@DethKwok Yeah, there are so many methods/techniques to 1 thing, it's already a bit time consuming to figure out which one works best for you. Currently I'm trying to find which method best suits my workflow, so that later down the lign, if I need to create new things or levels, it goes much quicker.
I first want to establish my own base, with what I think a spiritual successor of Split Second should be. I've got some ideas that I first want to roughly work out, see if they are possible to do. You probably also know how ideas seem good in your head, but once you work them out, it isn't really what you thought it would be.
And also get a bit more accustomed with Unreal Engine, which I'm liking quite so far. Certainly since I'm a graphics designer with 'low level' programming skills (I come from webdesign and databases programming), so their whole Blueprints thing really benefits me. My problem areas are when there is need for more in-depth programming and sound design (I think).
Once I got my base, we can look at if our views can blend together to make a coherent game we are all satisfied with.
Btw, are you the one that contacted me some year ago via Facebook? I'm not really active on social media, as they tend to get in the way of overall moral.
Social-media like FB tends to bring me down, as I just want to communicate with people without them noseing or interfering too much into your (personal) life. Good old trusty emails or 'external' chat is generally more relaxing.

@@DethKwok I have a Discord. Haven't used it much though. On my laptop, the Discord app drained a lot of the resources (to a point where Unity was unusable). Maybe my new computer can handle it better.
My name on Discord should be the same as here on UA-cam.
I'm currently working on my environment and also making sure it also works in VR (so the feel of speed and scale in VR).
