Thank you for not starting the video with a long introduction about what your doing. You are like the only one who has ever done that. Just get straight to the point. Awesome!
I actually bought a $500 subwoofer, but because I watched your video, I did not know there was a fuse that was easy to access.. so I checked it and it was out, bought a new one and my goodness it worked. Thanks, I will still keep it and put it in my son's room.
I had a situation and I am offering this additional information: I could not get sound out of my sub and I tried every hookup. Until I realized my receiver has volume adjustments to each individual speaker, L,R,CENTER,SR,SL,SUB. Remember to check the the SUB volume is not off or all the way down in the settings of the receivers menu/mode options. Good luck.
if you set the subwoofers on diferent phase positions they will cancel each other out, the phase switch gets usefull when you want to place the sub behind the listening position(to match the front speakers phase or if you have one in the front and one in the back(in this case you must reverse the back one only)
Hello, the setup for high level input was not clear for me. In case I have a stereo integrated amp - how exactly do I connect the sub or 2 subs to the amp provided that I want to keep the main speakers powered from the amp? Thanks
how can i connect my twice sony subwoofer using the black red cable ...??

I have an old 50 watt kenwood powered sub with these connections. If i connect a 2.0 channel vintage amp to this using speaker wire does it degrade the signal going to the speaker and/or become the main amp driving the speakers instead?? Meaning I can't or shouldn't use the volume on the amp for example?
So if I only have a single coax cable out from receiver and no LFE, I thought I could just plug it into either left or right input on sub. I need to buy a splitter?
If you connect to the speaker cables. Does that mean that there will be 2 sets of wires for left and right. So u will connect 2 wires into the stereo left hole.... 1 set goes to the sub left and 1 set goes to the left speaker. Then the same for the right? I don't have 4 speakers outputs from the stereo you see....?
hi alright so im trying to do that also. i have a sub with the pos and neg on each side x2. i also have a separate speaker that has a pos and neg port. i have a cord with a pos, neg, green, and white all in one cord. how do i connect the speakers to it? or is this what you are saying not to do? i dont know if i have to have a pos and neg going to the speaker and then back to the sub with Another cord. ? please reply thx. if you dont understand my question its all good. thx though :)
I've added a turntable into the mix via phono box into analogue inputs. Sub doesn't get the low level signal, any solution? All digital sources are fine. Only has one pair of inputs and speaker terminals on Wharfedale sub. Thanks.
so if you have an amplifier with just a left and right output you can connect a subwoofer with speaker wire from the left and right straight into the subwoofer ?
Yes. Even Tape or Phono out to the raw cable connection will work. If you have clip input and RCA terminals on the subwoofer, you can use both for greater volume, like sub out on the amp to the RCA in on the subwoofer, and speaker out on the amp to clip input on the subwoofer. Any such combinations will work. Disconnect the power to all components before connecting or you might blow a fuse that is often mounted inside the subwoofer.
Hi I have a integrated amplifier 2.1 but my subwoofer has left and right output speakers on the back my question is if I want a 3.1 can I connect the center speaker behind the subwoofer using one right channel output? Does that make sense or it will sound awful? Please explain? Thank you.
I have a two channel receiver with A and B speaker selection. Currently I have two floor tower speakers on the A channel and I just ordered two matching subs. Does anyone have recommendations on how to connect the two subs? Should I run 1 tower and 1 sub on A channel and the other pair on B channel or should I run 2 towers on A and 2 subs on B?
Help please 😣. I just bought a Jamo sub 200 second hand with some connection us yours the sub is working but no sound from the speakers I was wondering is I need a receiver to connect the speakers thanks
Another silly question... Would you mind to tell me if there is any possibility to connect the subwoofer of the Logitech z906 system to a receiver (Yamaha RX-V373)?. Thanks a lot in advance!!
I have a question sir,i hope you help me..i have db 502-12 amplifier 1500 watts and 550x2 speakers, and i want to install an subwoofer..how many watts of subwoofer can set up to my amplier..i hope you help me sir
not sure if any of you could answer this but is it possible to connect a subwoofer from a shelf system to a receiver somehow? Receiver has sub out just not sure how to connect since the cable is different. Maybe it's not possible.
Low Frequency Effect, it's a channel dedicated to home theater bass effects that use it in 5.1, 7.1 etc. the .1 is the low frequency effect channel, the advantages are that movie soundtracks use that channel individually in sound mixing for bass effect.
But even if I'm not using the LFE port I'm still getting the bass, or the "low frequency effect" even if I'm still using rca or optical. I'm just guessing better sound quality if you use a coax into that LFE input?
Low Filter Envelope. If you change the the slope of the Envelope, it will cut out upper "dubby" frequencies which can sound somewhat unpleasant to some people who say it sounds "boxy". Others like to have a flat scientific response.
@@esa2236 It the low frequency channel, so any frequencies below a set point will be sen there. That point is controlled by the receiver automatically or through the filters on the receiver or SW. Always yield to the receiver which may disable the SW crossover anyway when its plugged in. Another reason why LFE is preferred. Save the coax for your TV. The SW uses a single mono RCA and sometimes XLR.
The subwoofer needs a source, so you can simply run wires from another speaker which is close to the subwoofers location, or run wire from the receiver directly to the subwoofer.

can anyone help I'm clueless when it comes the these things. my subwoofer had an l & r input which I have connected to my TV. but still can't figure out how to get it fired up tried going through tv settings and can't find nothing
hey there, i have a question my uncle gave me a vanderbach hrs-805 home theater. the subwoofer is the receiver, everything pugs in there. it doesn't have any bass it sounds loud but no bass why? i just pluged it with a aux calble. Also on the back it has a 5.1ch input colored holes which are like for the speakers, it has 2000 watts it suppose to have bass but it doesn't can you help me solve my problem?
I want to connect a subwoofer to an old HK AV receiver with two Energy speakers already attached. But it'll be STRICTLY for audio (turntable) no home theater. How can I properly connect it so the bass sounds natural and not boomy? Thank you so much.
I have a Onkyo receiver that only has one subwoofer output that is strictly a bare wire connection (uses a small clamp where the bare wire is inserted for negative and positive). My subwoofer only has this type of connection for the "high level" with two channels and uses an rca type connection for the other one channel. How do I go about connecting this? Should I strip one side of a rca cable in order to connect it to my receiver?
I understood that you double connect from the OLD stereo amp 1- to the usual left/right speakers and a 2-new connection on the same amp output into the "high-level input" from the Subwoofer, right? (This question is repeated NNN times in here without a clear question and an answer), cables should be same size i guess. Since your subwoofer does not have "high level out" i guess it is the only way, Right?
I have the Yamaha rxv673 and it has a sub 1 and sub 2 but it is RCA cable both colored black no left and right. My sub has speaker wire connection (red and black) only. These won't connect? I used a splitter it didn't work. If it won't work what sub do I need to get? Please help.
I tried the conversion kit but that didn't work because it needs to be powered so I've been just using an older receiver with the speaker sub out until my old sub dies then I was planning on buying a new sub to work with the new receiver. It's an older unit so it doesn't have the new stuff like Bluetooth and AirPlay/wifi but with this sub it kicks ass so for now it works but it's just a pain having to use cables to connect to music.
Yeah I've been trying to hold out as long as possible on that because not only does my old sub sound great but a sub is not easy to decide on and impossible to buy online if you care what it sounds like. But mine is starting to cut out sometimes :(
When using this setup can you still hookup speakers to this channel , or do you need to sacrifice the outputs. does the sub only uses a signal from the wires ? , i have a HQ-HT DIY sub and can't use it. So i want it in my car. ( power converter etc ) . but i want to know if i split the rear channels and connect them to the rear speakers and sub will it still work . or do the rear speakers only get half the power ?
On a 2 channel system, instead of running another speaker wire from the same speaker out, to the subwoofer, can you just run a speaker wire from the speaker to the subwoofer?
Where do you put your high level input cables on the reciever ? In the front (Left or right ) Center output, or the surround inputs ? I can`t find a subwoofer input fitting those cablers. Only RCA, but my sub doesnt support that.

I have 5.1 system of Philips. Bass not fine which is 6.5 inches. Can i cut the wires of subwoofer and install subwoofer such as 8 inch or more in another box? System is 96 watt. Can i connect passive woofer replacing inbuilt woofer of the system?
so, when i use the HIGH LEVEL input cable, where should i take the source from my receiver? from the sub out? or should i connect the wires to the L & R speaker output from my receiver? clear this put please ..
I have a question....i recently purchased a tube preamp with 2 audio outputs. one output will be dedicated to a tube amp with a pair of 3 way speakers. The other audio output i want to use to run another tube amp to run 1 subwoofer...i do not want to use the subwoofers integrated amp because using them would defeat the purpose of the tube amp and it's sweet sound compared to ss. I have been looking for passive subwoofers but mostly all are powered. Now my question is.....can i run my tube amp to the speaker inputs of the subwoofer without using the integrated amp of the subwoofer????or would i still have to power the subwoofer using it's integrated amp???
So I have left/lfe then right/line in my klipch synergy 12 sub. So my receiver has subwoofer out and I let my receiver control the cross over. I have my amp cross over at it's highest setting so it doesn't mess with the receiver doing the work. I noticed when I have both lfe and right/line I get more bass vs just using lfe by itself. Everyone says just use lfe and turn the crossover on the sub all the way up. Why does it sound better with the 2 plugged in vs the 1 but everyone says just use the single cable? I'm a little confused
On my receiver only has one subwoofer out signal I use. I just plugged it into my lfe connection on my Klipsch R12SW subwoofer. Can I use that one rca subwoofer cable and put a y splitter on it to hook it up to the left/right input on the subwoofer?
By using both left and right line inputs you're raising the DB level up by 6 giving the illusion that it's also better, it's equivalent of raising the DB level in your receiver by 6 DB's
Yes, If you increase the ds's on your receiver to +6 while using both rca's inputs (+6) then you're basically raising the db level up 12db's on your sub (6db + 6db). Hopefully that helps clarify things a little for you.
Have a question: If I use the "Surround Back/Zone 2/Bi-Amp" output on my receiver YAMAHA (RXV6A) to Bi-Amp the front speakers, then can I connect the Music cast to surround output!?
So my amp has a sub channel with only two outputs a positive and a negative, how do I connect this to the subwoofer, and it’s speaker wire not rca or lfe.
Hi, this is very informative video and thanks for sharing. I have one question though that I am trying to ask and have no got my answer clearly. I have been using the option three for connecting my sub woofer through the red and black speaker in puts and out puts and then I use just once the option for hook up cable in to red and white ports. Does it make a difference in sound if we use the connections to Sub woofer using the "red and white cable ports" OR using the "Red and black spring clipers", Thanks.
Thank you for not starting the video with a long introduction about what your doing. You are like the only one who has ever done that. Just get straight to the point. Awesome!
+Michael McDonald I agree with this comment!
plus no crappy music
I know, I cant stand that, Some intros are so long with loud techno music.
My front speakers do have sub woofers in them. Why would I need another sub woofer
Agree! Direct to the point yes thank you.
Clear, concise and comprehensive tutorial. No rambling. Thank you sooooo much.
Finally a great video to understand everything about subwoofer connections.

Dude you know how hard was to find this simple but yet so helpful channel?? Thanks
You’re the only video I found that explained the difference between LFE RCA and L R RCA, with reference to the frequency knob. Thank you!
12 years old video but none of recent video could beat your video, very helpful thanx a lot
Excellent!! I've been watching so many videos but no one like this! Finally, got all my Qs answered! TY
oh MAN thank you!.
You explained everything a lot better than my klipsch subwoofer's manual!
Now I know what everything does, thanks!
*short, sharp breath*
Immediate explanation.
Love it.
Nice. Thanks for the vid. Just picked up a Subwoofer someone was just tossing and really didnt know how to hook it up. This helped a lot.
Thank you very much for your video. You really answered all my questions regarding the subwoofer setup. Please continue with your excellent work.
Very well explained.
I was clueless before this video!!
THANKS FOR THE INFO.

The only video I found that is very helpful ❤❤. Thank you.
Very helpful, having purchased a used sub with no manual. Thanks!!!
Thanks a bunch. I was unaware not using the frequency dial when using LFE (until now)
LFE means low frequency effect, it's a channel in movie soundtracks only, not used in music 2 channel stereo.
Finally a video easy to understand thanks
Thanks. Well explained and concise. Just great for newbies like me.

Great videos, I see most of the subs nowadays use the RCA inputs/outputs
Thank you. Man, just got a dcm tb1212 at Christy's auction for twenty bucks!!! Dual 12 inch subs!! Thing is ridiculous!!!

Help!
If i buy bic america f12 sub
And bookshelf speakers how would i connect them
The bookshelf speakers would be through speaker wire and the subwoofer would probably be through a single RCA also known as a coaxial cable (lfe)
Have a question.Does the bass control on my receiver affect the sub out or just the speaker outs?
It does
I've added a turntable into the mix via phono box into analogue inputs. Sub doesn't get the low level signal, any solution? All digital sources are fine. Only has one pair of inputs and speaker terminals on Wharfedale sub. Thanks.

Need I use in high level inputs both Channels? And with any impedancy ?
I don't quite understand.. Would it work if I would just connect the woofer with the left/right channel on my reciever, or can it damage the woofer?
My amp has LFE and speaker connection.
Would it be better I use the speaker connection +- so I can use the frequency dial as well ? Thanks
how do i install new amp for my home theater subwoofer any help will work video possibly unhooking amp and re install??? thanks

front left and right chanel
The only thing I ask is which one would you prefer and which one would deliver the best quality out of the three
The quality would be identical, but the volume might vary. I connect both raw cable and RCA for better volume.
Can I Bi-amp the subwoofer???? I would like to use two subwoofers with my bookshelves speakers. One sub-woofer for each channel. Can I do it safely ?

so, when i use the HIGH LEVEL input cable, where should i take the source from my receiver? from the sub out? or should i connect the wires to the L & R speaker output from my receiver? clear this put please ..
+ΓΙΑΝΝΗΣ ΓΟΥΖΟΥΑΣΗΣ i got the same problem..
Now my question is.....can i run my tube amp to the speaker inputs of the subwoofer without using the integrated amp of the subwoofer????or would i still have to power the subwoofer using it's integrated amp???
my home theatre sound no clarity
How about my receiver? It doesn't have a audio output. SONY DVD HOME THEATRE. I want an additional sub if possible
By using both left and right line inputs you're raising the DB level up by 6 giving the illusion that it's also better, it's equivalent of raising the DB level in your receiver by 6 DB's
yes but if you raised the level up by 6 and plug it in you are still up by 6 right? I'm lost sorry
Yes, If you increase the ds's on your receiver to +6 while using both rca's inputs (+6) then you're basically raising the db level up 12db's on your sub (6db + 6db). Hopefully that helps clarify things a little for you.
Have a question:
If I use the "Surround Back/Zone 2/Bi-Amp" output on my receiver YAMAHA
(RXV6A) to Bi-Amp the front speakers, then can I connect the Music cast
to surround output!?
Yes you can.
So my amp has a sub channel with only two outputs a positive and a negative, how do I connect this to the subwoofer, and it’s speaker wire not rca or lfe.
Can you do all 3 of them??
Hi, this is very informative video and thanks for sharing. I have one question though that I am trying to ask and have no got my answer clearly. I have been using the option three for connecting my sub woofer through the red and black speaker in puts and out puts and then I use just once the option for hook up cable in to red and white ports. Does it make a difference in sound if we use the connections to Sub woofer using the "red and white cable ports" OR using the "Red and black spring clipers", Thanks.
