    SO glad we bought our class C in fall of 2019 (2020 model) with legacy Ford V-10. They were dealing on motorhomes then with no crazy shortages.
    My go-to mechanic works on small transit buses with the Ford V-10. He said they are very reliable, easy to work on and time tested... the engine production lasted 20 years for good reason.
    Installing Noico and Kilmat is a MUST for sound insulation... small motorhomes are brutally noisy!!

    I just recently had the chance to drive 2 26 foot Uhauls recently from Summerville Georgia to Pelion South Carolina. The old 6.8 was amazing as far as hauling weight and getting the job done but the 7.3 Godzilla one had almost equal weight in it. And was much quicker off the line and had better performance overall. The only downside was it actually drank more fuel than the 6.8 v10 but I would loose a couple mpg without issue having the extra performance the 7.3 provides plus it sounds better toting a load!

  • @Soulessdeeds

    As a former diesel mechanic who had to work on RV's. Do not buy one with the radiator in the back. If you must have one of these then at least find one with a radiator that faces the sides of the RV. If mechanics need to access the engine in the back and the radiator is in the way. You will have to pay for the rear end to be disassembled and the radiator removed before the techs can even start on the engine. You are looking at allot more money in the repair just from man hours on jobs that will most likely already be expensive to begin with.

  • @randr10
    @randr10 2 роки тому +2

    I think in an unloaded pickup truck the 6.8 will probably be almost exactly the same, but with a vehicle this large and with all the weight it's moving and air it's pushing, that's where the 7.3 is really supposed to shine. I'd be interested to see a side by side fuel mileage test on these pretty much identical vehicles with the two different engines.

    • @rysterstech
      @rysterstech 2 роки тому +1

      I would go with the 7.3 as it won't have dpf issues not to mention higher fuel prices. The gas engine doesn't have the torque that the diesel does but the gas engine will outlive the diesel in the long run

Also, you didn’t mention anything about the stability comparison between the two rigs going along the interstate when a big rig comes blowing by. I have a new 22 MH very similar to the tested Baystars and the Ford F53 chassis is a handful. Requires 100% concentration to keep it centered in the lane and rough roads are a nightmare. Cover these items in the future which is what matters to campers traveling long distances. I’m looking at having to spend substantial money on aftermarket parts just to make ours driveable.

    I have a Ford V10 motorhome. Its a great engine but its a real gas hog. The only thing I don't like with mine is the 5 speed transmission, a few extra gears would be so nice.

    I bet you could buy a decent used big rig, extend the frame and custom build the living space for those prices. Plus you wont have to wait 3 to 9 months to get warranty work done. Big rigs are made to go millions of miles and have commercial parts. More reliable than any consumer vehicle.

    Bravo! Love this V-10 vs V-8 comparison. Motorhomes are trucks and this is the premier truck channel. Hopefully we will see a few more motorhome videos in the future. A head to head 0-60 and 1/4 mile drag race would have been awesome. Perhaps in another episode.

    We’ve owned both also.
    V10 = 6.75 MPG
    V8 = 8.3 MPG
    The V8 has a slide and is 2.5’ longer.

    Noticed that you reported the tow rating. Most dealer reviews will state the hitch rating instead. That is dishonest. You did t right.

  • @kevinvoyer5053
    @kevinvoyer5053 3 роки тому

    Ok Andre’ they are nice, look good, have decent room and comfort. BUT now that you have driven one, even though I’m not sure if it was loaded for camping yet. I hate them for two great reasons, the first is no matter how carefully you pack all your stuff away, they are ALL RATTLE TRAPS! That make so much noise of all kinds going down the road, especially after tens of thousands of miles pile up. The second is who want to drive those lumbering death traps around? Only the very best are built to roll over and be safe in crashes! For me? I’ll take a nice pickup an tow a nice travel trailer around! Then if anything happens, you are not at the mercy of any one of the over booked hard to get into mosey reputation RV Dealers you must go too! Instead of the dozens of Chevy, Ford or Ram dealers all over! That goes for mechanical issues with a truck, but both with the Motorhome type of RV!! At least when your trailer has a trailer issue, you can drop it off and still either drive home, or to a motel, that you still need to go to in a taxis!

    • @paulrodrigues9603
      @paulrodrigues9603 3 роки тому

      Just pray that you don't need to bring it back to Mercedes for anything. And some "authorized Sprinter dealers" can't get them into their building so they send you packing. How does Mercedes let them be a Sprinter dealer w/o an adequate service center.

    • @cmcconn100
      @cmcconn100 3 роки тому

      The Mercedes only has 188 horsepower. The towing capacity is also much lower. The price makes up for it as it's WAY more expensive.
