you can use a hot glue gun and make zig zag patterns on the bottom of the soles so that you have more grip :)
A better way would be to press the soles of the shoes on something like a plastic net mesh with large holes, or chicken wire while it's still semi-wet. That way, the texture is 100% integral to the shoe.
as the friction and pressure would make the hot glue flatten.

K0ester I'm not gunna say for sure hydro dipping would work but I work in a paint store and almost all the caulking we sell now days is paintable.
I really want to make these! I'm thinking about making a mold of some inserts I have to support my arches (the current design is flat-footed). I feel like the silicone would very easily hold up to the pressure and would support my foot without being too hard. This sounds like a ton of fun!

Give it a paint job, smooth down the rough texture on the surface of the “shoe”, and it will be looking great. 👌
I don't think anything sticks to silicon. I don't think silicon sticks very well to cured silicone. Sadly paint would just flake away, without pores and texture to grip to. Paint has to absorb into something to really stick.

You should try putting a silicon nose cone on a randomizer rocket and seeing if it removes the need for a parachute.
I will totally use proto putty as insoles for my shoe so it is not as flat and more comfortable maybe, might try it out!
Try "gluing" fabric on the outer surface to make them more stylish, maybe even glue on some soles from an older pair of shoes for traction.

I was thinkin the same. Instead of placing it on paper to get the bottom shape, put it on a bed of legos (since he has those) or something similar that has texture to it. Could probably even use a piece of wood bark that's large/flat enough

The lego test would be reason enough for any parent to try this to avoid feeling lego to the foot.
So next you just need to form the sole of the shoe over something not flat... like an imprint from another shoe perhaps?
