Bishop Robert Barron: Living as the Image of God: Created for Joy and Love

  • Description:
This talk will be an exploration of the extravagant biblical claim that human beings have been made in the image and likeness of God. Our likeness to God is revealed in our intelligence, our hunger for the good, our creativity, our freedom, and, above all, in our capacity for relationship. In living for the other, in giving ourselves away in love, we most resemble God, who is love.
    Speaker Bio:
Bishop Robert Barron is founder of Word on Fire Catholic Ministries, rector of Mundelein Seminary, and host of Catholicism, a groundbreaking, award-winning documentary about the Catholic faith. He received a master’s degree in philosophy from Catholic University of America and a doctorate in sacred theology from Institut Catholique de Paris. He has published numerous books, essays, and articles on theology and the spiritual life. He has appeared on several media outlets, including NBC, PBS, FOX News, CNN, and EWTN. His website, WordOnFire.org, has reached over 3.8 million people, and his weekly UA-cam videos have been viewed over 9 million times.

Being a seminarian of the Catholic church, i feel so much inspired by Bishop Barron. I pray that as i discern my call to priesthood, God may endow to me a gift wisdom, Knowledge, understanding, and most of all the gift faith in God so that i may also evangelize and preach His Word like Fr. Barron. Lord i Pray.

To my understanding we go to mass to receive Jesus, not so much for adult catechism. We get to experience the divine and the world come together with the Eucharist, that's pretty neat.

Excellency, I recall the movie "Oh,God" with George Burns portrayed as God. The main gist was a cute story of a girl who was having trouble making her father(Denver) believe she spoke to God. I was first somewhat miffed that anyone would take the lofty role of God. But then seeing Burn's humorous but carefully collected portrayal, then I was pleased. The writers did not think the message, that everyone should change to think more of God, would stand the ages, but to me it did and does. How appropriate for our times, and increasingly will those words plead out in our times. Burn's was the best choice. He was public about his failure in his marriage promise, was remorseful, and showed the world how to properly remedy the situation. The implications that are religions are equal aside(typical these days), I think we have a good PG14 movie for general audience.

Denise, are you serious? I mean, really really serious? George Burns portrayed as God. Hollywood? What's wrong with you people? Hollywood? Man, ... I just don't get it. They portrayed God as an old man, smoking cigars. Do you think Jesus will come back as an old man smoking cigars? Girl, come on now, read your bible. God is nothing like Hollywood.

To calm down about this "mouth-to-mouth" analogy, might it be thought of as a type of first aid, but instead of physical, it being metaphysical and spiritual, namely mouth-to-mouth ressusitation of the soul? That being when you use your own breathing apparatus to sustain the life of another; by the way, wouldn't that be akin to what He did in reference to breathing the breath of life into man at the beginning of the species, pray tell, at least according to that book?

But I bet most people don't know this but no where in the New Testament or the Old Testament was Mary ever worshipped! Can you find me a passage pls? Thank you God bless! Have a Great Day! Are you saying that Catholics worship Mary? They don't - they honour her as the Mother of Jesus (and because Jesus is God, she is the Mother of God). She is our role-model and we ask her to pray for us. Only God should be worshipped - check out that Catechism of the Catholic Church - that is what it says. God bless.

    • @daniellion5289
      @daniellion5289 7 років тому +1

Ok then, where in the Bible does it say that she would intervene on our behalf? Didn't Jesus have brothers, therefore not a virgin. Mary needed a Savior as we all do. " My spirit rejoices in God my Savior." (Romans 3:23 KJV) “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Does this verse exclude Mary? God is not confusion, Satan is Master of confusion, the catholic church is confusion. The catholic church man-inspired traditions deviates from the Word of God. Catholics in general do not read their Bible out of laziness, therefore choose to be lead by mafia lords, pedophiles, homosexuals, idolators, lovers of flesh, lovers of money. Catholics have a short memory. God, creator of billions of stars and knows each one by name, knows your heart. When Adam blamed Eve for his fall, and Eve blamed Satan, both Adam and Eve were without excuse from God's judgment. Catholics will be without excuse for their indifference in seeking HIM. You do not fear God because your leader does not fear God. Pr 9:10, "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." Catholic choose to adhere to man-made wisdom foolishness. Jesus is your only GPS to God. Seek him, read his Word, maybe start with the Book of John. You may think yourself as a good person, and probably are, but you were still born in sin, and so was Mary. God loves you, but you have to love him back. Upon your last breath, would you rather have Jesus, the true and only Salvation, or Mary a born sinner as you and I, or one of your saints sinners. Mary was blessed by God as she was chosen by God for his plan for our salvation. The Word does not make her sinless. She is not part of the Trinity. She cannot intervene for you. You rosary is powerless and blasphemy. Mat 6:7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words". God is not confusion, Jesus himself tells you that repetitive prayer is babbling to him and will not be heard. Jesus taught us how to pray, Our Father.... Does he mention Mary? John 14:6 "Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. How clearer can Jesus be? Not through Mary, not through your saint sinners, through Jesus ONLY. Eternity is a long time. Find a Church that will share the true Gospel and leave this satanic Judas Goat.

Okay if Jesus had blood brothers, born of Mary. And we all know that there are the laws of Moses where the nearest of kin would take the responsibility of his father, brother, cousin, as we exemplified in the book of Ruth, and the Pharisees mention it when they try and catch Jesus with a trick question. Jesus comes back with, we shall not be married in heaven, but shall be as the angels, am I right? So, in John 19:26-27 (When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home."
Why would not one of his brothers take care of his mother, but leave her in the care of merely a disciple of Christ?

And brother, the Catholic Church goes deeper into scripture than any protestant can imagine. I used to believe as you do, and God blew my mind, for I thought that Catholic Church was terrible, for the same reasons you do. The church has an abundant wealth of knowledge of scripture, and the fullness of the Christian faith. It truly is the Church Christ founded here on earth and no other church can make that claim, and have history back it up. It is a historical fact, that Christ founded the church. Just think for a second, When just left he didn't say, "Go and preach the Gospel, making disciples of all nations. Baptizing them in the name of The Father, The Son, and of The Holy Spirit... and by the way, here's this book." Sacred scripture was not written as they followed Jesus, but decades later. Finally the book we call the Bible wasn't put together until the late 4th century. the books we have in scripture were not the only letters written. there were people in different cities, in different church's, at different periods of time. how do we come to put our faith in this book that calls itself inspired? is there an inspired table of contents saying these are inspired and these are not? Because as I'm sure you know, there were Christians who didn't think books like Revelation, Hebrews, 3rd John, we're inspired, how do we have such great faith? I'll let you know the truth that the Pope infallibly declared that the 27 books we have today, The books of the new testament. The Pope is the one who said, "these are inspired, and these are not." And we have the book we call the Bible today.
Now I'll tell you, you can make a list of objections that you think, "prove" the church false. But the church has multitude of answers for your questions, just ask.

Some think we are made in the image of wolves and act like wolves. Others think we are made in the image of dogs and act like dogs. But most seem to think we are made in the image of pigs. Which is why this paradise planet lifeboat has become a polluted pig pen.
The truth is that we are supernatural mystics made in the image of Love (god).
With the right training, we can transform misery, ugliness and conflict (hell) into joy, beauty and hatmony (heaven)... like Merlin turns lead into gold and Jesus turns water into wine.

  • @cbooth151

Robert Barron speaks of the image of God. But, who is God according to Robert Barron? In one of his videos, Robert Barron said: "The claim that God is love is the ground for the trinity." He adds: "Within the very being of God, there is a play of a lover [the Father], the beloved [the Son], and the love that they share [the holy spirit]." In other words, Robert Barron is saying that the Father, Son, and holy spirit make up the same "one God." As the Catholic Athanasian Creed says: "We worship *one God in trinity."* So, according to Robert Barron, the "image of God" is the image of the trinity. But, where does the Bible make such a claim? Answer: NOWHERE!! If it did, then things would get rather awkward. For instance, take Col. 1:15, which says that "[Jesus] is the image of the invisible God."
So, if God is a trinity of persons, then, Jesus, who is only a part of the invisible trinity [God], is the image of the invisible trinity [God]. But how can one person be the image of a three-person deity that _includes_ Jesus? Maybe one day Robert Barron can explain this mess. But, don't hold your breath.

    • @wickedhenderson4497
      @wickedhenderson4497 5 років тому

Too much oppressive hierarchy... and then when it comes to the theology: you make romantic love and procreation the central concern. That is a central concern of the worldly. The Godly know that romantic love transpires quite prolifically and needs no spiritual encouragement. Christ called us to show real benevolence to the poor, to the afflicted, to the sinful provided they showed reverence and cooperation because Christ sees the value of all the souls entrusted to his reign. I am sorry to have the duty of voicing dissent. 'Peace be with you'

No, the rosary beads were given to men by Mary to help men to pray to God.

I feel sorry for your sons and daughters who will fall prey to your pedo priests.
and when that happens...... I really doubt hoping peace be with you is anything appropriate.

When you mentioned that most of the cases are from homosexual priests only....without supporting those homosexual priests that are good and decent people..... you are being homophobic.
You should know that there are many homosexual priests are good and decent people. Instead your church....based on the ideology spread by Church Militant Vortex... many of you took this chance to ferret out these decent individuals who never harm a child.
Pedophilia will go after children... let it be boys or girls. Matters is that due to church's regulations the priests have more access to young boys as girls...who were fortunately under the care of the nuns.....
Which is why most cases victims turn out to be boys.......And if these pedo priests were able to get near a young girl......they will not miss this opportunity to satisfy their lust.
Hating your type of Catholics is kinda easy and a must.
You only intend to spread your ideology as you destroy the beliefs of others.
Your core intention was is and will be not to get along with others.
So give me a reason and not an excuse why we should get along with people like you and your bishop...who demands others to t0olerate you while you do not tolerate us.
By the way... if I am to rant and hate a person or an organization.... I have to know what they do and say.
listening to Barron's and Vortex presentation is a must for me to know what you really are and what you will be.........
and after so many years..... I have to admit that lay Catholics that seldom goes to church are more likeable.
And as for Bishop Barron....and his fans.....you guys are a disappointment.

How did I missed the point about you all being anti-gay when your bishop is against same sex marraige?
How can I be anti-catholic when I am dating and banging one now.
      To be direct....
      I hate you all.
You are a dissapointment to this planet and even your God.
You all failed to see the problem that your organization is corrupted and need to be fixed.
You all still believe that your priests bishops and Pope represent your God so they call the shots.
It is easy to call anyone anti-catholic when that individual point out your crimes and filt.
Do you have any idea that it was is and will always be people like you....... that make that give your God a bad name?

The creed is a list of what a catholic believes. Jesus says give to Cesar what is Cesar's and give to God what is God's. Basically, follow the laws of men to be safe in man's world, but, follow the creed to be a Catholic Christian. Men's laws were originally based on those 10 commandments. God really rules your soul and body's lives.
