I lose so many times in fighters that my mindset has turned to: "Hey that's a sweet combo. It's so cool that I can't be mad at being at the receiving end of it." Or "Damn. That's a lot of counters, they already have me downloaded -good on them!"
Bottom line, they have the W, they're obviously doing something right, and I can't be mad at their play when I should be mad about my play.
If I lost, the only thing I could do is just learn the habits my opponents have and use that as a starting point.

Excellent advice man, that mentality really is everything. Funny that reddit dude mentioned the post was inspired by recently installing SFV, because I'm typically solid in the willpower department, but something about being new at the game, stomped 9 out of 10 times, got me polishing my seppuku knife.
Only thing I could maybe add to this is to try a different game. SFV made me mad on a level I hadn't felt since childhood gaming, and that was while being matched against people on my level. Melty Blood, however, I can pretty much never find anybody on my C-Rank level, I'm almost exclusively fighting A+ and S Ranks, but I have a great time getting my ass kicked. If I can pull off a single round on these dudes, or even just have my oki game with Kouma's grabs be effective enough that I can tell they get frustrated before kicking my ass, I consider that a victory. Play that same dude enough times, pay close attention, and you might even snag a full victory. Strive and KOF XV are two other games I can have a great time getting curbstomped at, so that might be something for anybody stuck and frustrated to consider.
Great video, wish I could download it into some of my friend's heads so they wouldn't quit on me so quickly. Got my subscription 🤙

This actually was something I need to hear. Like I've trying to get better at fighting game that I want to get better at and while I know I don't put win ahead of learning I think unintentionally when I do go in play online or sometimes with friends, I feel like a little bit of that mentally my mind just goes back to "focus on winning" While I try to use everything that I know I think I panic in my mind that "I need to get this W" and a lot of the time when I get washed I have a good time with my friends and don't worry about it but after a while I ask myself " Damm, Why haven't I still improved" and it like a week or two since we last play but I get it takes time. And sometimes when we play, I sometimes I get a compliment or two during the games as my friends notice that I've improved or learn and I'm ngl it feels good sometimes when you might not realize you improved but your friends or sparring partner does which keeps me going and sometime, I need to tell myself "I might still lose like a lot of games but I gotta keep going and put learning first, then winning second sometimes especially if you're getting into a different fighting game your still getting the hang of "

Man, I have been playing fighting games for years and feel like I've never improved. It started off as "im gonna get better and beat this opponent" to "Oh I lost, that's expected. I'm just bad" Its gotten so bad one of my best buds mentioned not wanting to play fighting games with me anymore when its supposed to be for fun. I'm not sure if this was mentioned but I have trouble separating the fun from being competitive. What would be a good way to do this because yeah I wanna get better but it hurts seeing that my mindset is slowly pushing my friends away from wanting to play fighting games with me.

for me the struggle is that 1. i am just bad at games and especially precise inputs so i tend to get frustrated even just practicing combos, i am literally unable to complete any combo 2. there are pretty much no players at around my skill level left 3. just getting hit with combo after combo unable to do anything every match is not fun and its hard to figure out a way to prevent that and also execute it because theyre so far above my skill level

see my main issue is i can only play randoms and the times im free to play it can sporadically be people way above or below my lvl. and all my friends dont play fgs so no training partner for me
(granted i found some same lvls but its like 2/10)

    • @DaikenFGC
      @DaikenFGC  2 роки тому +3

You can only play randoms? Sounds like you just need some FG friends! I’m sure there are plenty of other players around your skill level that are also looking for training partners for the games you play.
But also it’s nothing wrong with just playing random people as it gets you the experience vs characters. One thing I always say is for people to play people who are “lower skilled” in MU’s they are trying to learn. These are the players that will hit you with a gimmick you never seen that a higher level player wouldn’t try due to the risk. But knowing it exist early on can prevent you from getting hit by it when it really matters!

People are getting salty because when they lose because they *assumed* they were better than their opponent. Then losing feel like an injustice and triggers anger in their brain. They just need to be humble and accept the opponent can be, or even better, that he *is better.* Then, it's ok if you lose, because he is better and if you win, you know you improved yourself...
The worst case is people losing and still believing they are better. If you lost the game, you ain't better, period. Whatever noob strategy your opponent use, if you can't predict and punish it, it means you have a lower level than the so called noob/monkey you are trash talking about...

I've been playing SFV since the Beta version and got a relative success in my local comunity. And not by a longshot I'm a newcomer. I've been playing competitively since 2012.
Played Abigail Main since his release. What bums me out is that almost ALL of the other characters got this very neat stuff to work with and Abigail has lite a slightly different V-Skill 2. His core issues weren't addressed and his Anti-Air game is non-existent. Let alone the new V-System killed his both V-Triggers. I feel I reached my peak at 2018, when it was Season 3.5, when Abigail got seriously and justly nerfed (Abigail S3 was a Monster).
Since then, the nerf hammer fell HARD, like REALLY HARD, while my chief competition got steadily buffed. I'm not a Tier Whore, I'm a Character Loyalist, but since Season 4, this game is eating me away. Seems like the only thing I have to do from now on is to play ûber lame, eat pressures like a champ and think 90 times each move I make, meanwhile, Bison gets buffed to the point of no return.
My closest friends often tell me my most fatal flaw is my temper, and there's the catch. How to change my approach? How can I muster the PATIENCE to train properly this game again? How can I NOT doubt my every move in a match? How can I keep my cool when my character basically has a toothpick against a pantheon of bazooka wielding Navy Seals?
