I grew up in Maine, 13 miles inland from Portland, in a nine room, three story Colonial in the 1950s and 1960s. What a life that was! A covered bridge led from my grandmother’s property on Windham Hill to my first home, a log cabin my father built after the war, before we moved to Gorham.
Yup! In the 1950s/1960s I grew up in a three story Colonial w/barn. The house had nine large rooms, two sewing rooms, huge pantry, and large backyard garden (13 miles inland from Portland). What a life!!
Mt. Washington is the only place in the world to record snowfall in every month of every year over the past 200 years. It also recoded the lowest windchill ever recorded in the US last year at -108.4 degrees Fahrenheit.
I've been to 40 US states and the first time I went to Vermont I was so amazed at how beautiful it was. It's still my favorite state. I remember just driving along not even knowing where to go and came up over a hill to this place called Lake Willoughby. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing and it was in Vermont!
Impressed by your father attitude 👌👏🙏, not so many people at his age are choosing to enjoy 😊 outdoor activities. Glad to see families, really appreciate the beauty of our natural environment. ❤❤
Thanks! You and Pops are wonderful companions on the journey. I’m home bound taking care of my 97 yo mom, so I really enjoy your videos, I like your interaction, interesting places, food, beautiful scenery. I was so excited about the Norman Rockwell museum. This is a bucket list trip for me. Thanks!
You cannot ask for a more beautiful place to go then New England in the fall or even in the winter beautiful beautiful place they say West Virginia The New England is the last stop because it is heaven breathtaking God really gave us a beautiful place to look at thank you for sharing this with us❤And yes I am a subscriber😂😂
Thank you somuch guys for showing us the very beautiful places on earth, which located at New England USA. Like me always watching you guys from to far away country which Philippines. And i'm very nature lover, im soo very appreciate of what you're Doing guys. just enjoy ur day always guys..always watching you two from Pliippines. hope you notice guys. and im sorry my English hope you two are understand. thank you guys..😃😃
This brings back memories. 30 years ago I lived in Pittsfield and have been hiking on Mt. Greylock many times. Was fun to see the Red Lion and Rockwell museum again also.
Am I the only one that keeps hearing “this one time, at band camp…”. I enjoy the videos and learn a lot. I wish I could have done this with my father although my late wife and I did get to many of the places they go to. Cherished memories.
Laying sick in bed in the rainy Netherlands, your video's are the perfect medicine. Much respect to you and your pops. Already looking forward to the next one!
I appreciate that what you said about the tour buses. Having one single vehicle of tourists instead of like, 30 individual cars clogging up the roads is ideal in my opinion. Especially for those who can't afford a car/driving or are disabled, it gives them an opportunity to go on a trip like this. Amazing video as always!!!
I’ve lived here my whole life and it took a couple of Canadians to come down and do it justice! Well done!! Also, 2022 foliage season was one of the most memorable in the past ten years, so you definitely nailed it.
Epic trip! You lucked out with CLEAR SKIES ON Mt. Washington!!! Its in the clouds like 300 days a year. So glad you enjoyed our lovely state of NH, but Vt and Maine are awesome as well. Loved loved the video. We got alot of good layghs watching you and your dad. Thankyou!!
I loved watching your video adventures there in New England. I am native Southern Californian girl but lived in New Hampshire for 10.5 years, I would like to give you and anyone else some suggestions if you visit New England again for Fall Foliage. First I will say New Hampshire has the most gorgeous Fall Foliage sights, though everyone always says Vermont. I suggest the southern drive across both states. For Vermont drive route 7 that you start on from eastern NY turns into art 9 as you drive east over the Green Mountains. You will drive through historical towns like Hoosick, NY Bennington and Wilmington, VT and over Hogback Mountain! That is one beautiful drive! Then you take Rt 9 and continue on into New Hampshire. Visiting Keene, NH is a must! Now to me the drive from Keene on Rt 9 all the way to Hillsboro,NH is one of THE MOST breathtaking views of Fall Color! Then drive south on the 202 and it will take you to beautiful small towns like Antrim (where I lived), Bennington, and Peterborough,NH. And since you love hiking try hiking Mount Monadnock! Just a suggestion
Love the genuine moment at 36:43. Never take any of those moments for granted with family. Life is precious and too short. I love your videos Josh. No matter how lengthy your travel videos are, I enjoy watching every minute of it. Thanks for letting us come along on your adventures. Never stop uploading new videos.
I used to live in New England until I moved to Florida, the foliage is the one thing I miss. Of course, I also don't have to worry about the cold winters that follow.
Josh, your Daddy is just the nicest man! I hate to say it, but he needs to be in every video you make. You guys are such a good team! That is so rare and natural! It’s real and it shines through ❤
New England is beautiful ant time of the year. Fall is my favorite time. Live in Md. My late husband and I used to go camping up there. New Hampshire and Maine were our favorite areas.
Lived in New England almost 30 years.. and have hiked a dozen of the 4k footers up in NH multiple times over the years. If I got bored on a weekend, I would just drive up to the Kanc and overnight in north Conway. The Cape -- aka Cape Cod -- was my second choice. Great memories! Will probably make my way back there someday and play out my innings.
One view after another was breathtaking. The video quality was off the charts. Loved the time lapse as well. I dont recall watching any video on youtube that was so beautiful from beginning to end. You have inspired us to take that trip someday (using your guide to help us navigate of course). Thanks Josh and Pops!
I have been to all those places numerous times, and it never gets old. Each fall we do what we call the loop. We live on the south coast of Massachusetts, and we travel west through Rhode Island and Connecticut then up north through the Berkshires to Vermont and then east through New Hampshire and Maine. The Rockwell Museum is a must stop, one of my favorite places anywhere. We head back from Arcadia down east along the coast through Boston and then back home. For the most part we travel back roads taking our time. Since I retired, we have travelled all over this country, but I must admit fall in New England is the best. Thanks for posting.
Thank you so very much for letting me tag along on your epic trip ~ what a wonderful way to experience the fall colors! Tell your Dad I think he has a wonderful singing voice!!
I love your father/son road-trip videos…you do a great job, but I am in love with your dad. What a cool, amazing, easy/going man. Great job singing too…you are blessed to have such a dad..and I’m sure he feels blessed to have such a nice respectful son! Keep up the good work….
I enjoyed yet another of your Roadtrip with Pops videos. We followed most of this route a couple of weeks ahead of you in our RV. Fall colors were just starting when we arrived at the end of Sept. We missed the Flume hike that looked incredible. I am a covered bridge guy too and really enjoyed the Covered Bridge Gift Shoppe that is actually ON the bridge. Stayed at NFS campground across the street from the Albany covered bridge. You didn’t miss much on the Ben & Jerry’s tour. You can’t take photos anyway. Stayed in the Berkshires, but not a Norman Rockwell fan. Did the Alice’s Restaurant Massacree pilgrimage in Stockbridge and nearby Great Barrington instead (Norman Rockwell’s studio was upstairs from Alice’s restaurant). Did a tour of the Trappe family lodge that included a welcome by a Trappe family member. Did the Cog railway too commemorating 50 years since I climbed Mt. Washington in 1972 while my family drove up and met me at the top. Picking the last trip of the day for the sunset was a good choice.
If you ever watch Alice's Restaurant again my dad was riding his motorcycle in the racing scene. He used to race with AMA. When they are stopped and lining up near the end of the racing scene, my dad is the guy with the #1 plate.
My sweetheart your in my neck of the woods.. I’ve been watching your for over two years!! I love ❤️ you guys and my darlings at 60 years old over 40 years of hiking climbing you are taking me on hikes I could probably never do ??!!! I am so impressed with you!! And Dad is very Hant!! ❤
My husband and I are taking our 3rd road trip using your video as our guide. We tell everyone we meet about your UA-cam channel.thank you so much for doing them and a shout out to Pops for adding Dad humor.
I loved your video. I was born in Massachusetts and spent much of my life in New England including 19 years in Maine. Now I live in Israel and one of the few things I miss are the Fall leaves.
May I just say " WOW" .....how breath-taking is that!!! I just joined your channel and love, love, love you two!!! What a great Father and Son team!!! Keep them coming as you are stuck with me!! Have a great week-end everyone!!!
This is the reason i like New England. Especially small towns. Best routes to get to VT are Rtes 7 and 8. Nice bridges on Rte 100 and awesome views. Have traveled these roads many times. Cabot Creamery used to have a small store in S. Londonderry. Post covid that's no longer there. Love this video. Haven't been able to go anywhere since 2019. I really miss it. I live in CT so it used to be a weekend camping trip. Thanks for the ride.
Very nice video of the area. I’m a native NYC-er who moved to western MA about 20 years ago. I was surprised that you flew all the way to JFK to start a drive through New England, as the drive from JFK to get north of NYC can take over an hour, on a good day. LaGuardia or Newark airports would have been better choices, assuming you wanted to start from southern New England and work your way north for the sake of the video. For those planning a trip, though, avoid the NYC-metro area altogether. It’s not part of New England, and why deal with the hassle? Good alternatives are flying into Logan airport in Boston, or Bradley airport in Hartford. Also, in re leaf viewing: the vibrancy of the colors can vary from year to year, so be aware of that. New England weather is very changeable, so bring layers. Inland, in Sept-Oct, temps typically range from the 70s during the day to the 40s at night (Fahrenheit). Mt. Washington is more extreme, of course. Colors will look much more vibrant on a bright, sunny day, but New England can be gray and cloudy in the fall. If it rains, though, the colors can look more intense. When the sun comes out after a rain, you’ll often be able to find a rainbow or two. Watch local weather to get the leaf-color report in season, which tracks peak colors. Some New Englanders may get a little grumbly about traffic and tour buses during “leaf peeping” season, but ignore that; our economy benefits a lot from visitors and fall tourism, and most New Englanders appreciate that. Thanks, gentlemen, for visiting.
Those trains run on diesel fuel which explains the high price of a ticket. I Live about half an hour from the Kancamagus highway and my son and I will drive it early in the morning at least a half a dozen times through the spring summer and fall. Your video here with your father made me realize just how important it was for me as a father to be doing these things with my son. You are short rant about the tourist buses on the kangamangus highway completely changed my point of view on them thank you for helping me pull my head out!
I live an hour south of the Whites in Concord, NH. It's always so much fun to watch other people's perspectives of places I've been going to my entire life. NH is stunning in October, no question about that! So happy you and Pops enjoyed your visit!
I was eagerly waiting for a new full length release, as a non-american these give me so much insight into how beautiful american scenery can be! Amazing stuff.
I'm so glad you covered some of the beautiful areas of Connecticut. I lived there for most of my life, and autumn was my favorite season. Usually, the leaves peak around October 18-25, in S. Connecticut. Kent Falls was one of my favorite places to visit. The hike up the side of the falls is pretty cool!
Glad you made it to New England. I’m from Maine and have been to most of these areas many times. Your videos are always thorough and show some of the best things to see. October brings all the “ leaf peepers🍁” to these areas. ❤
We were up there the same time with a similar route. Acadia/Bar Harbor, Salem, Cape Cod, Providence, Mystic, and then Sleepy Hollow. Really beautiful time of the year!
aww I love that you are going through this beautiful experience with your father. I used to travel with my mother. nice memories. you should have come to the Catskills. come visit me with your father.
I appreciate how much nature you show. I live in Australia and plan on coming to Alaska next year hopefully May. I also would love to see iowa and vermont. I am not so keen on driving in America. Or travelling by greyhound bus. 😂😂 I am still researching how to get around without joining a tour group. Your travels are great. And enjoyable to watch.
We are so blessed to live in beautiful New Hampshire year round. Glad you enjoyed yourself and come back anytime!! We appreciate your business and happy to share our great history. Alot more for you to see here. Come back soon. We live right down from Lincoln NH. Best colors ever!! Not Vermont..New Hampshire!!
Love your videos and channel! Your point-of-view comes across as much more humble and down-to-earth than a lot of other travel vlog / influencers I see. Perfect and very well done! I really enjoyed the Route 66 video as well, and the Alaska/ Denali trip. I also appreciate all the good snack tips! 😮🙌🏼
i agree. the route 66 trip was wonderful. as an Englishman it's so refreshing to see two guys so passionate about their country. great to see a man and his dad
Beaver Pond is a great hidden spot. Years ago it was just a small dirt pull over with nothing else around. When you stop by there later in the day before the sun sets there is no one around. Also a great spot to see the clouds roll down the mountain into the water.
I love “ traveling” with you and your Dad! Thanks! I agree with you about Sabaday Falls.. I was there in 2015, and seeing your footage brought back great memories!
Born and raised in New Hampshire, it was fun to see it through your eyes. Next visit, I suggest the longest covered bridge in the U.S. It was the longest in the world, for years. It's a western NH covered bridge called the Cornish-Windsor Bridge connecting Vermont. Also, near St. Gaudens National Park. It was the home of a famous sculptor. Lincoln sculpture, etc.
I love your channel! I live in NY's Hudson River Valley, which you saw a bit of when you stopped in Sleepy Hollow. You may enjoy a fall foliage trip here in the future. I think a road trip of upstate NY would be fun. People hear NY they automatically think NYC. There is so much more to NY than NYC. The Hudson Valley, the Adirondacks, the Finger Lakes,, Niagara Falls.. I've been to the Norman Rockwell Museum and I'm about 2 hour from VT so I will have to check some of these places out! I love that you travel with you dad. Makes me want to take another road trip with my dad! Whenever I want to take a trip somewhere, I just have to watch one of your great videos! I share about your channel and videos on Facebook. I look forward to supporting your channel in the future. I was watching Rt 66 videos when I stumbled upon your Rt 66 trip.
I often forget how beautiful New England is because I've lived in New Hampshire my whole life. But you really should have rented an RV instead of staying in hotels. Thanks for coming!! If you think sabbaday Falls was beautiful you are to try Lost River. Next time check out the old man in the mountain and Lake Winnipesaukee.. this pass cold spell Mount Washington just hit a record low of 109 degrees below zero wind chill. Lol
Its very beautiful, and thanks for sharing. I love anything like this, especially nature in all its hues. Pretty spectacular coloures..if I were there I would need more than 2hours for sure, and if I were an artist 🎨 I would paint it to canvas, but I'm not, so would be sure to take photos and see whilst there if some poetic words sprang to mind..if not then I would diary it! Luckily there are tons of beauty spots back here, and I have written poetry about, but have to be in a specific and nostalgic mood/mind frame to do so! What I love about antiquity as in Historical places is capturing how the ancients saw such places and getting the energetic vibe of such places..this is why I guess I love historic sites. One American place I love in particular is Salem Massachusites and for a specific reason! Thanks for sharing ..
All I wanted was a cozy fall video to play in the background while I was studying…but this, my friend, I couldn’t ignore! Lol! You truly captured the essence of autumn with all the footage you took during this journey. I especially loved the bonding time spent with your dad. He has an awesome singing voice. It definitely has inspired me to do the same with my dad considering how much he’s been requesting to do a road trip lately. So, thank you for such a beautifully done video.
Wonderful video - it must have taken hours to put everything together so seamlessly! My daughter and I used to take roadtrips together but now she has babies so I have to travel vicariously through youtubers like you - well done!
Your New England video is by far the best i have seen. You not only captured beautiful sceneries, but also provided practical information, such as traffic, parking, and other attractions. The tour buses also gave me a tip of an option in addition to driving. Thank you for sharing!
I LOVED your video- thank you! We were unable to do a fall foliage trip this year due to family health issues, so watching your video was the next best thing! Thanks again!
Great video! Being from New England, we've done a lot of these many times, especially the Kancamagus Highway and Franconia Notch. I'm no longer living in New England and miss the fall foliage! Thanks for highlighting some of the great places up there and bringing back some wonderful memories 🙂
1998 a friend and I flew to Portland, Maine, and rode our bicycles back to Western Washington, sea to sea. Unfortunately we had a disagreement our first night in Maine and I took off the next day by myself. Because I wasn’t in shape yet the Kanc almost killed me. Started in Conway and coasted into Lincoln. At one point I crawled off the side of the road and lay in the bushes while the flies and insects had their way with me. My friend had the bug spray. The next day she caught up with me west of Lincoln and we continued our trip. It took us two months and we rode 3600 miles. By the way I was a 58-year-old great grandmother.
You are almost 83 now ? That was an awesome trip for someone almost 60 yo. Glad you and your friend caught up with each other. I wouldn't have wanted to do that trip on my own. In a car, yes, by bike no.
@@djg5950 yes you got the math right. I continues long-distance bike riding until I was about 64. I could ride 100 miles a day and often camped by myself.
Wow! You captured some really spectacular color and views -- as good as and even better than many of the still photo portfolios I've seen of New England fall foliage. And to lighten the commentary you and Pops play off each other just like the terrific team you are. Thanks much for this amazing hour of entertainment and visual pleasure.
You've got a good eye for this. I'm not a pro myself, but you know what an audience is looking for. You don't let shots overstay their welcome. And I like that. Keep the pace brisk but not too fast. Good job.
This has definitely been on my bucket list! I lived in Arkansas for a year, and Fall colors there are supposed to be Top 5, but I really want to see Vermont someday!!!
Thanks for your great video series. We live in Connecticut and I see most of the places in this video and are glad that you and your dad are enjoying it as much as we do. You might want to do Cape Cod sometime because there is quite a bit of sailing and fishing history. Thanks again and be safe
What a wonderful show!! I just love traveling and sometimes I’m just too busy to get away. However, you and Pops can take me there and that’s incredible!! I just recently found your channel and it’s just splendid!! I have really enjoyed every episode you and Pops have journeyed together and that’s epic. I wish I could’ve had that experience with my Dad. Cherish this time and experience since it’s so very special and the memories will last forever!
What a wonderful road trip & we didn't have to fight the crowds or hunt for parking spots - appreciated that. I never did go to New England on that count - not keen on crowds, but it certainly is very beautiful - you got so lucky with the cog railway and Beaver Pond - just stunning. Thanks Josh & Pops! Hard to beat that trip.
Great video! I agree that staying in Lincoln is a great option, but I would also recommend considering the Mount Washington Valley, which includes the towns of Conway, Bartlett, and Jackson, New Hampshire. From there, you can easily access the Kancamagus Highway (Kanc) via Bear Notch Road in Bartlett, as well as Crawford Notch, which is near the Cog Railway. Pinkham Notch is also a short drive away and offers spectacular views and access to Mount Washington trailheads and the auto road for those who want to drive up to the summit. Additionally, there are many more lodging and dining options in the Valley, which can make it feel less crowded during busy seasons and won't need to eat Macdonald's twice in one day!
Jose your voice is so calming it hypnotizes me. I love the road trips you and your dad take. This is my very favorite utube channel 🎉
Wow, thank you! 🙏
New England is stunning.
I love how people from the west coast just aren’t used to older homes! My house was built in 1767, next time you come I’d be happy to show you guys!
@Derrick Bridges Only if you live in Europe, it's not.
Cool. My house was built in 1898. I thought that was old.
The town I grew up in has whole neighborhoods with houses built in the 1600’s! New England has some amazing history and old homes for sure
Great when can we go over?
Yup! In the 1950s/1960s I grew up in a three story Colonial w/barn. The house had nine large rooms, two sewing rooms, huge pantry, and large backyard garden (13 miles inland from Portland). What a life!!
Sometimes I forget how amazing the content on this channel is. Well done Josh
Very kind of you to say, glad you liked the video!
@@ThroughMyLens not kind, truthful amazing 😍🤩
Josh is the boss!
Also...I don't catch every one, but I love your content...been watching your stuff since it was just Cali.

That was great! The fog in the early morning hours when you hit New Hampshire would be a photographer's dream.
Merci beaucoup pour l'histoire de New England Fall Color road trip❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Millions of blessings,

The entire East Coast was once covered with trees. When the Pilgrims landed there were trees everywhere.

In a word…New England is Beautiful! Compliments for the beautiful report.🍁✨🍻
As a Vermonter? Yes. The colors here are spectacular this time of year-- but give it another week or two!

Thanks for watching the videos for two years, really appreciate the support! !
My husband and I are taking our 3rd road trip using your video as our guide. We tell everyone we meet about your UA-cam channel.thank you so much for doing them and a shout out to Pops for adding Dad humor.
This is my favorite video on UA-cam now. Spectacular Josh and Pops. Thank you for sharing it. ❤
I loved your video. I was born in Massachusetts and spent much of my life in New England including 19 years in Maine. Now I live in Israel and one of the few things I miss are the Fall leaves.
Incredible footage and Incredible views to behold! Hopefully we can get a 2023 Fall Episode! I can binge watch this all night.
So awesome!!!!! I want to do this with my Mom!!! The colors are everything! 😍
May I just say " WOW" .....how breath-taking is that!!! I just joined your channel and love, love, love you two!!! What a great Father and Son team!!! Keep them coming as you are stuck with me!! Have a great week-end everyone!!!
Excellent Video !!! I feel as if I got a FREE Trip to New England just off of my cell phone !
New England wow !!!
You are your dad are the best, so fun and kind!
Thanks for making this video! I’m from NE, Connecticut. I am glad you enjoyed your trip!
I am still researching how to get around without joining a tour group.
That trip is awesome. Been thru that area several times. Love the area but have never been in fall. Must go.
Beaver Pond is a great hidden spot. Years ago it was just a small dirt pull over with nothing else around. When you stop by there later in the day before the sun sets there is no one around. Also a great spot to see the clouds roll down the mountain into the water.
That beaver pond moment is really nice
The right place at the right time
I love “ traveling” with you and your Dad!
I loved, loved this, I cant travel and this has always been on my bucket list, thanks so much, gorgeous
Thanks. I was in New England in 1981 & 1983. With the help of your video, I'll try to retrace my steps. BTW, your Dad a great tremolo voice.
Literary road trip, absolutely! Love your movies. Always feels like home watching you and your dad go on road trips.
Lol
Fantastic place for visiting and photography 😊
It is such a beautiful area and I wish i was able to paint it as well!
Awesome content. Thank you for taking us to a trip to New England. The autumn colors are amazing 😊
I LOVED your video- thank you! We were unable to do a fall foliage trip this year due to family health issues, so watching your video was the next best thing! Thanks again!
Fantastic!!! Love the Beaver Pond footage and of course the White Mountains in the fall. There is no other place like it.
Great video! Being from New England, we've done a lot of these many times, especially the Kancamagus Highway and Franconia Notch. I'm no longer living in New England and miss the fall foliage! Thanks for highlighting some of the great places up there and bringing back some wonderful memories 🙂
No problem, glad the video brought back good memories!
Your Dad is the coolest!!!
Love traveling along with you!! I am amazed at all you do and see. Thank you!! Love ya, Pops! You too Josh!
I love how this channel has gone around the country not just the usual …but when you came to New England through my hometown … Omg 😊❤
Good job.
I used to climb Mt Greylock if you looked at it from my front yard there is a rock formation that looks like the side view of an Indian head
This has definitely been on my bucket list!
I lived in Arkansas for a year, and Fall colors there are supposed to be Top 5, but I really want to see Vermont someday!!!
You would love it, such a great spot with lots of natural beauty and hiking!
That was brilliant. Thank you for bringing the beautiful nature to our desktops. Cheers
