Chewy I've commented 100 times on your channel but I wanna let you know that I'm now a 2 stripe white belt since starting back in March this year. It's the best thing I've ever done
Hey Chewy, what kind of advice would you give to someone who basically trains every 6 months in a different country? I find a bit annoying to be fair, after I get familiar with the gym and the coaching system, I have to move to another country because of my work...dont know how to approach this in order to actually get a good progress in my bjj.
I don't train BJJ, I'm a huge MMA fan but your videos have a real engaging way about them and I always watch your videos even if I don't train or I have never trained and I am not thinking about training but congratulations on finding a way to engage with audiences on the level that you do. Look forward to the next video. Also I learn so much from your videos so who knows, maybe I would be good at BJJ. But I'm worried because I've dislocated my shoulder in the past will this be a problem? Keep up the good work.
I am a 225 lb blue belt and what ive wanted to do is incorporate more wrestling based techniques/submissions into my game as well as learn better ways to set up jiu jitsu combinations
Hey Chewy! I have a question. I have been training in BJJ for only 6 months or so but I have been training in martial arts for most of my life (I am 35). I do not think I am anything special but I find that I am picking things up quickly since there are so many similarities with other training I have done. However, I am having an issue with training partners. The majority of classes that I can attend tend to be either brand new adults or children (12-16 year olds). The problem I run into is on the rare occasions whenever I do roll with someone roughly my size and experience, I feel like I can't get anything to work. I do my best to only use technique when I roll with smaller or less experience to avoid getting lazy and relying on strength. How do you recommend I bridge this gap so I can best utilize these smaller or less experienced training partners so I dont get smashed going against other people? Thanks for all the videos you do!
Love your videos, I get a lot of good input from them, I just earned 3rd stripe on my white belt... At same time I tore my ACL in a free roll match at the end of class. I tore my right knees ACL 8 years ago and probably gonna do same procedure of using graft from my quad to replace it. I don't want to quit, and I certainly don't wanna stop trainin in this since it compliments my black belt high levels in traditional Taekwondo. What advice, during and after recovery, would you suggest I focus my training to give better protection of my knee joints. It popped during a takedown attempt with my opponent's leg wrapped over mine and planting it
Question: Is it possible that I'll always stay a white belt and never make it to a blue belt ? (I train 3 times a week, I'm 32 years young, male and I had injuries in my ankle which slow down my pace started JiuJitsu just before Corona and now since 2 weeks I train again)
Chewie do you know how you can get someone to relax when rolling. I find that when I roll, especially if I’m doing well or see a submission within reach I NEED to go for it and I truly cannot get myself to not exert a ton of strength to get to it. This makes me only able to do like 2-3 rolls before I’m utterly gassed
@@serious_g 3 stripe white belt been training around 2 years on and off. I’m definitely more relaxed when I started, but I want to be able to just flow roll and chill but it’s not possible for me lol
Chewy (or anyone else), I’m concerned my prof has given me a stripe too early based on bias. I started training 2 weeks ago and have attended maybe 5-8 sessions. In my most recent session my prof gave me my first stripe. I wasn’t expecting it at all. I believe that it is a combination of me and my prof getting on really well and the fact that I’m moving bjj schools soon, and he gave me one out of good gesture. Does anyone else think 2 weeks is too early to get a stripe? Or has anyone else been awarded one this early also? Etc.
Not normal at all for people that go to my gym 3 to four days a week normally get a stripe around month 2-3. But the first stripe is sometimes given to some people quicker if they bring a lot of grappling skills before bjj I.e. a wrestler that gets several bjj submission moves down. Maybe that’s they case idk.
@@jacobfreeman5054 hmm interesting. My gym seems to be a bit odd then. Including myself, I’ve seen multiple promotions from people that have only trained 2-3 weeks and it’s not like they’ve been going every day or anything like that🤨
39 yr old Blue belt here. I keep losing superfights. I train and train. Literally 6days a week 2 times a day. I've won ibjjf matches but fall short in sub only superfights. My tech is lacking surely any advice?
How do i ask a question? Im not a tall person (175cm, 5"7), but ive got a rather stocky build, wide shoulders, thick arms and legs (been lifting 4yrs now), but because of my height and body size, my limbs arent long. What would be ideal positions/submissions for me to work on? Im okay with being a one trick pony. Id rather perfect a small number of movements, positions, submissions, etc. Rather than be shit at a lot of them
Yes! And once you get more comfortable with the position you'll starting seeing all the subs and transitions that stem from there. I worked on front headlock a ton and in my match with your student Jeff i semi successful employed it. Jeff is just a stubborn son of a bitch and wouldn't let allow me to do much more than try to hold it and not die.

I subbed a blue last night as a white belt. He did not like it at all. Fkn sook. I was stoked. I’m loving this sport.
Thank you, Professor, for the excellent advice! Blue belt in Chicago.
Chewy looks like he's filming from the most comfortable nuclear fallout shelter in the Midwest
😂
Love seeing the recent videos…we want more lol.
These videos are so helpful! Thank you for such great content!
Great video! I needed to hear this

Gah daym. Chewy has a quarter of a million subscribers. 😳
What are some good stretches and exercises to do outside the gym

Bro. I feel that 😂 I get so excited and just launch at max power for about 3 seconds and lose all my energy and can't go on much longer after that.

Also let go of your ego trying for a new position you may get caught trying to get to this positon. A lower belt may catch you in your effort.
I just find something I think is cool and drill it a bunch. Then I get smashed 100 times on my way to pulling it off in live rounds but who cares
