Kanami is a rock goddess. Not just how good she is but how she "feels" it. And dam is she FAST!
Agreed, I just wish, especially after listening to ‘From Now On’ reviewers would acknowledge Kanami’s skill, Akane’s impeccable timing and drive, Miku’s consistent contribution (how far she has come - wow); and of course Misa, Misa, Misa exceptional skill as well on the bass (I think it was mentioned once or twice). The group are exceptional musicians (Saiki included).
I've said it before, but I really think Mincho has some form of synesthesia. She seems like she feels and sees the music around her in a more intense way than us "normal" humans. How I wish I could experience music the way she does.
Thank you two for doing another reaction of BAND-MAID. I believe they are musicians' musicians.
BAND-MAID and Gacharic Spin are my favorite Japanese bands when it comes to musicality. You never know exactly what you’re going to get from them song to song.

They have four songs that were written and released as instrumentals, and they are all fire. "Onset", "Don't be Long", "Without Holding Back" and "From Now On". They always play one of them at half-time of their shows, to give Saiki a rest--and then they just cut loose and you realize how insane they are. Kanami is often overlooked in discussions of top shredders, but she shouldn't be--she's a beast.
They also have several videos that are commonly called "White Room Versions" which were originally songs with lyrics that have been remade as instrumentals. Very good stuff to listen to and hear things that went unnoticed with the vocals in place.

When I say they are best live, I suggest you check out their performance at this summer's Lollapalooza Music Festival in Chicago. During their one hour performance that day two songs stood out. There is a two song clip on UA-cam (It's not blocked) of "Dice/Hate?" that has gone totally viral. During "Dice" there are sols by Misa, the bassist, and Kanami, the lead guitarist, but during the interlude between "Dice" and "Hate?", Akane, the drummer, kept pounding the drums and made a seamless transition into "Hate?". During "Hate?" there is an epic call and respond duel betweem Misa and Kanami that went on for a while. IT'S AWESOME!!!!!

That guitar and bass duel at Lollapalooza was epic! The camera and video editing was less than stellar though.
@@ALAN_COX Yeah, the camera work sucked but at least a person got to see Misa Misa Misa wailing away for a little bit. Kanami is a crazy woman when she plays, I love it.
It would be normal to wonder "but can they pull this off live?" - let us save you the trouble - yes!!! Made the hairs stand up on my arms.

There’s a pun to be made about how much Band-Maid ripped, but the Japanese group goes even harder than that. Fluctuating between hard rock, aughts nu-metal, and pop rock, each member of the quintet is a virtuoso in her own right with more than a decade of practice in Band-Maid alone. They lured curious onlookers into the fold when highlights like “Domination” and “Don’t You Tell Me” got huge reactions from the crowd, but it was the bass solo-versus-guitar solo duels mid-song that got the biggest cheers. This is what those guys in Guitar Center think their ridiculous riffing sounds like. Turns out it’s done best, and most effortlessly, by women in black-and-white maid dresses and frilly hair-pieces as they smile ear to ear. -N.C.
From one musician to another, you are right that instrumentals are usually boring. Because few artists are capable of writing a song without words. Kanami Töno is one of those few who can. “Onset” would be my next recommendation because it will drive home the fact. You may expect a similar feel, sound or theme? You would be wrong. It is another completely different story than “From Now On.”
Band Maid is a musician’s band. Like Rush and Tool before them. They reward those of us who listen to music on a much deeper, soulful level

You make an excellent point, as a lot of songwriters think of lyrics in conjunction with the composition, which is sort of a natural progression. But Kanami has the ability to subdivide her compositions so it works both ways almost effortlessly. I know she pretty much composes everything on piano to start, maybe that makes a difference ??? But what REALLY makes it work to perfection is the band working together with no egos and the only aim is to make killer music. And when Kanami has two people in Misa and Akane to look over her compositions in order to fit the power trio, it's just heaven. And Miku has developed so well as a guitarist that she is an amazing bridge between everyone else.
They drop these instrumentals now and then ❤

Great reaction guys. Good request from Gregory. I love this instrumental, and their other instrumentals. Well lets be honest I have not come across a track from band-Maid that I don't like. No holding Kanami back here. I thinks she often reigns in her "Mincho" mode to suit the song especially when there are vocals, but it is nice to be able to see her cut loose occassionaly. Her and MISA trading riffs on Hate at the Lollapalooza festival is fantastic both of them letting it rip.
During concerts they use instrumentals to give their lead singer a break.
You guys need to see Dice And Hate from, Lollapalooza. They also have another instrumental called Onset. The live of that is awesome! Thanks for reacting to this. Love it!

Yes, the Maids are quite extraordinary musicians, but they have something more, they create music that catches the human ear. I'm an older guitar player, but in all my years I have not been able to create music like these ladies. It's almost other-worldly.

Good review. FYI, Band Maid has recorded several instrumentals. The more recent “Without Holding Back” and (from the early days) “Onset” are their other instrumentals that you should check out. As things stand, “From Now On” is my favorite…..at least until the Maids release their next instrumental.
Seen this song twice live, and it's Epic. My favorite time was still at "Aftershock", the moment they started this song and it was broadcast on all the screens around the festival, you could feel the crowds everywhere moving towards their stage.
Holy hell... I had not realised that. I got myself set up in front of their stage early 🤣. All I can say about that set is that 30 minutes was NOT long enough. So awesome.

There are many "White Room" (instrumentals) Band Maid videos that are exclusive to their DVD/Blu Rays. Many of those videos have been reacted to on YT, Po! Btw, I've seen Kanami play this at AfterShock in 2022, first time live in the US. It was good, but a little rough because they were getting used to lives again. I was holding my breathe then. But now she does this song to perfection, i.e., HoB Anaheim.. Looking forward to Yoko-Ari and ramen in 14 days, Po! 🦍🍌

Thanks for doing this one. I think it's become my favourite instrumental, at least among studio tracks. Live I'd probably still go for Dawn by Asterism. But there's such an epic quality to "from now on". As impressive as Kanami's guitar playing here is all the little touches she adds in the arrangement.

Other awesome Band-Maid instrumentals include Onset and Without Holding Back. Band-Maid instrumentals showcase the members' musicianship, but they're still songs, with melody and a purposeful progression.
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 I witnessed this song performed live three times with this MV quality in Tokyo & Kawasaki and dropped my jaw three times 😲. I believe so did many of American audience in their recent two US tours. This song has been normally played in the middle of the setlist to give Saiki, lead vocalist, some break. They played this song, however, as opening at festivals and in Guns N' Roses concert in Japan as support to the legendary band. Yeah! they showed off their skills and talents to the audience who knew nothing about the girls in maid outfit on the stage. I felt as if I heard them screaming "Hey guys! Listen to us and open your eyes wide! We are not the persons that you think ! Salute us!" 😄

I am surprised that you two were not aware of any instrumentals by Band-Maid. They have several and they use them live to give Saiki a break from singing. A couple of them that you should check out are Onset and Without Holding Back. Try the live version of Onset. You won't be disappointed.

They have Four (4) instrumental tracks. Their first Instrumental is "Onset" it was originally written by Kanami for live performances only, not included on any album.. If you want to see it on UA-cam it's a live performance recording you need to watch... but that live video became so popular on UA-cam they have decided to include the other instrumentals as extra tracks on their albums going forward.

Thanks Guys! Every time I hear Band Maid, I'm happy. I've seen them twice live and I am saving money to see them again. I hope the both of you get the opportunity to see them live. Everyone says Band Maid is best performing live and I agree 100%. They are incredible musicians and the world needs to see more of them.

If you like instrumental, you should defnitely try ASTERISM. 3 piece band and this guiztar, bass and drums are awesome. I would suggest Unravel ( from Tokyo Ghoul ) or Church.
Really never heard something like this before from such young guys. Hal-Ca was about 16 ( and younger ) when she played guitar in a quality which not many can do.

How about somebody new - Rolling Quartz "Fearless" They are Korean (and Not Kpop)!! You'll love the singer.
