By the way, their lead vocalist is fantastic!
"Don't You Tell Me" live at Yokohama please Mr Triple R. 🙋♂️
Following Gary's recommendations are pretty much mandatory - FYI.
I concur, it's a great introduction to the vocalist Saiki because she's absolutely on fire in that one, and also it's not every day you get to see a petite Japanese woman absolutely in control of 15,000 people.
Got to agree on this!
Yes, I highly recommend it. The tone quality is excellent, probably my favorite production from them. Yes, this rendition of the song is way better than the album version. Especially the vocals.
Darn. I should have said "You don't have to tell me!"
Hi, I'm 65 and have just discovered Band Maid in the last few weeks, and have become obsessed, they are that good. The best videos are their official live videos, fantastic musicianship, incredibly tight, and I dont think I've ever seen a band that is so full of life and sheer joy! Must see's just for starters - Domination - Freedom - Play - Onset
Hi Victor, If you love BAND-MAID as much as we do & are as nice as most of the community is then the Maidiac fam welcomes you with open arms.🤗

Without Holding Back is another fantastic instrumental…..

I’m 57, former rock guitarist and vocalist, and I assure you that Band Maid is the most fun and interesting band to come along in a generation.
From one old cat to another, trust me, “Don’t you tell ME,” official live video is the only choice for your second serving.
Yes, good suggestion.❤ That's their most recent live videos from the 10th anniversary concert in Yokohama. And it's a good one, of course 😅
One thing I hear all the time about this band that is hardly ever attributed to hard rock is the word FUN.
72-year-old Led Zep fan here and until a year ago LZ was my favorite band and has been all these years. Haven't liked much new stuff in decades but discovered BM a year ago and am totally hooked! The quality of their material and their skill on their instruments is what grabs you first but then when you start to learn about the members and all the stories you absolutely get sucked down the pigeon hole. Their entire world is about the music and their love and affection for their audience and each other. It is incredible, serendipitous that these five young women all fell into place and fit together so well, and continue to push each other to greater heights. And we are all reaping the rewards of their work, some of the best rock music made anywhere today.
A big difference between a Hooters and a maid-cafe is that a Hooters has a theme of sexiness and a maid-cafe has a theme of cuteness. In the West, cosplay as a maid usually consists of a woman wearing a sexy maid outfit at Halloween, but maid-cafes are not about sexiness: instead of showing boobs, like a Hooters, they have cute young hostesses speaking in cute voices, putting cute designs on your food, doing cute performances of some sort, and playing cute interactive games with customers. Band-Maid's live performances likewise include some time for cute interactions between band members and the audience, led by Miku (the member who once was a maid-cafe host), and the band has been known to refer to their songs as "servings" (as if something delivered at a maid-cafe).
thx for the clarification. i'm new to this :)
I am 71 yrs old and I have been in love with this band for several years now. It has been so long since I have heard music this good. This is great rock/metal or whatever you call it, all I know is it is damned great! These women can really kick it. I hope you listen to some of their live performances such as "Domination" and "Freedom' and then some others such as the dual video of "Manners" and "Black Hole" - a two for one. I got to see them live in Salt Lake City this past summer and they are even better live. God what a concert that was! In my old age I am once again finding joy in listening to music again thanks to Band Maid. Nice to have us relics find something new worth listening to! I loved this reaction and I love that you enlarge the screen and that you turn up that volume. Well done sir and glad to have now found and subscribed to your channel. Join us Maidiacs and give us more of them.
Thx for the kind words... and more Band Maid to come!
It's great luck to have found Band Maid. They have a large catalog of high-quality stuff you can't go wrong with. You might try the latest video release on their UA-cam channel - Don't You Tell ME (Live) 🙂
Everything in my life is filled with Band-Maid ❤❤❤❤❤
2:35 The "Band-Maid Smile!" They have an uncanny ability to make everyone smile! Yes, they have a singer, a very good singer. You'll get tons of recommendations, all different. Pick one. I'm partial to *"Dice," "Manners, "* and *"Blooming"* but really any will do.
It's great to hear Lovebites fans recommending Band-Maid and vice versa. There are so many great bands in Japan, Asterism is one. Hal-Ca is young and a beast on guitar, and so are Miyu and Mio. There's Gacharic Spin, Hanabie, Glim Spanky, Nemophila, Fate Gear ... so many!
Welcome to Band-Maid! Yeah I would suggest Don't You Tell Me (live). Live videos are really where Japanese bands are at the top. Also, just a quick note, most maid cafes are not as salacious as a hooters here (there are those you can find though) for the most part it's just like going to a theme restaurant here. They wear the outfits and have a character persona, but also have performances they do while you're eating, most places have a stage where the maids sing or do a dance routine, it's almost like dinner theater, just a fun way to enjoy a meal.
thx for the clarification :)
Been lucky enough to visit Miku's old maid cafe.. @home_cafe in Akihabara. And got to sit in the seat which appears next to and just behind the Maid in the opening scene of the "Afterlife" MV.
They have 130 songs over 11 years. All are good. Throw a dart. 🎯
65 yr old metal head. They’ve reignited my ❤ for Rick and roll. They have over 100 songs. Enjoy the journey.
Band-Maid's rhythm guitarist, Miku Kobato, worked at Maid cafés while attending college, taking singing lessons, and auditioning at talent shows, hoping to get her "Big Break", eventually "winning" an Idol contest. She was placed in an Idol group: a trio of similarly short girls that their talent agency named "Lil Cumin" that sang cutesy pop songs and danced. They put out a single that bombed and the group broke up. Miku then went to another talent agency and pitched "Band-Maid" - a rocking maid band whose cutesy maid look would belie their hard rock sound - a concept Miku called "The Gap". ...and so the adventure begins.
"From Now On" is just one card in Band-Maid's full deck. These ladies have recorded over 100 songs and they have learned from experience. They just become more awesome with each new release. I've been tracking Band-Maid for almost three years and I have come to expect to be amazed whenever they release new material. They rarely disappoint.
Band-Maid - Band-Aid? Yes, I am certain that Miku Kobato intended the name of the band to be a pun. It fits her sense of humor. She has been the primary lyricist for the band and her lyrics include English-Japanese homophones, puns, Freudian slips, and many other clever poetic devices. Her lyrics are in a dense but beautiful combination of English and Japanese that oddly makes the most sense when left in English and Japanese. Read the translations and you will see what I mean.
BAND-MAID are such a precious commodity that they're listed on the NY stock exchange as being more valuable than gold....probably.😏
Na, da ist uns wohl wieder jemand in das Netz für Masters and Princess gegangen! LOL! Wir haben übrigens heute hier Sonne, Gary! Sonne! Kennst du das Wort noch? 15° plus! Etwas typisch Hamburger schwindlig, aber war ein gutes einkaufen heute! Grüße, Ben❤😂 Siri, das Wort heißt windig!

Band-Maid are a top tier rock band. You've only scratched the surface of Japanese rock/metal. There are 100's of Japanese pop/rock/metal bands. Some of my favorites - Lovebites, Band-Maid, Aldious, Mary's Blood, Trident, Unlucky Morpheus, Asterism, Raglaia, Nemophila, East of Eden, Anthem, Galneryus, Hagane, ArkRoyal
A "Maid cafe" is essentially a themed restaurant.
Thank you for the wonderful response. I'm an 80 year old old rock fan. I took a long break from rock music, but when I found these girls, my passion returned. I think this group's playing ability is currently at the top level in the world. The most amazing thing is that Kanami, the lead guitarist, has composed over 130 songs, and there are no bad ones. She is truly a genius. Singer Saiki is also a great singer. No matter what you listen to with this group, you'll enjoy great music.
Agree with all that you say especially Kanami, she truely is a genius

Band-Maid best hard rock band
I'm a 52 year-old rock and metal fan who discovered Band-Maid in 2018, and after a couple of years of denial, I finally had to admit that they're the best band I've ever heard. How lucky we are to witness them in their prime.
Two songs that you should react to are "Thrill", the official music video, and "Don't You Tell ME", the official live video. "Thrill" was the first video of the group and saved the band from being disbanded. The song was played on a J-Rock station in the U.S. and received 2 million likes in two weeks. The management company decided, with that success in the U.S., they needed to keep the group together. After over 120 songs on 9 albums and EPs, Band Maid played "Don't You Tell ME" during their 10th Anniversary Tour finale at Yokohama Arena this past November. The two songs display the growth of the band over that period (especially Saiki Atsumi, their lead vocalist). I'm 75 years old and have seen many rock bands in my life, from the iconic :Cream, The Doors, The Byrds, Led Zeppelin, Rick Darringer, Kansas, REO Speedwagon, Allman Brothers Band, etc. to the not so well know and I have been inspired to love rock and roll again.. The talent, professionalism, and cohesiveness of Band Maid is amazing! I think you may feel the same way after you review a few of their videos.
thx for the tip! let the dive into the rabbit hole begin!
Dear Mr. Relic, we Madiacs call jumping down the rabbit-hole "jumping down the pigeon-hole". The reason is that Miku Kobato, the founder of the band (she wears the red rose on her head) refers to herself as a reincarnated 810 year old pigeon. She ends all her sentences with Po. She considers that as pigeon speech. She is one of the most energetic, funny, and delightful spokesperson for any band I have ever seen. She is loved by all Madiacs.
@BillHallisey - I'm of the same time period as you, maybe a little older, but you are right on the mark. They are rapidly becoming part of that class of talent. I don't know if you remember the female rock Fanny from the early 1970's, they had the same effect on me that Band Maid has had now. They say good things come to those who wait, and they are finally here.
And a thing about the maid outfits, Scott: as Fans and Maidiacs know, Miku -- the 2nd guitarist, lyricist, founder and who worked at a maid cafe -- wanted to show that everyday working "Kawaii" girls dressed as maids in high heels while having fun and smiling could rock as hard as any guy band sweating it up in their hip, poor tortured artists "outfits"... and by showing that contrast (the Gap), it would generate interest, which it so successfully has done! It also represents Woman Power (Equality), which is an important theme with the Maids.
Now they show up as Maids for all band business and interviews, etc. and have created a long-lasting, unmistakable, visual band brand. Very cleaver, Miku. Your diabolical plan for world domination is working, Po! Of course, none of this would work if their music and stage performance wasn't at such a remarkably high level. Band-Maid is considered by many of their fans and Maidiacs to be the best hard rock band in the world - maid outfits and all! AND one more thing, Scott -- Band-Maid is not a play on Band-Aid. ;-)
lol about the band-aid thing :) i had a feeling i was totally wrong about that! :) thx for the background. i'm excited about my new rabbit hole!
@@RockandRollRelic It’s a pigeonhole as you will discover on what will be a joyful journey, po!
@@RockandRollRelic And I'm excited to see more of your great Band-Maid, The Warning, Jinjer and Lovebite reactions and remarks, Scott! Oh, Wait! You haven't done Jinjer yet. Hum... Check out "Pisces" live studio.
It may be good that you started with an instrumental, to avoid the distraction of lyrics you can’t understand. But wait until you hear SAIKI and KOBATO sing. Three recommendations for establishing a better perspective:
1. Start with their first video: THRILL
2. A quintessential concert experience from 2020: DOMINATION
3. A 2023 stadium-sized live serving of a song from their latest EP: UNLEASH
I discovered Band Maid because they came up on my The Warning feeds. I was blown away by their musicianship. I saw them live last August in Chicago. Kanami has become one of my favorite guitarists, since Michael Schenker. Saiki their lead singer is fantastic also. They are a treat live. They have so many good songs, but probably to go to next are the live versions of Domination or, my favorite, Dice.
Check out the youtube video of when the warning met band maid at the aftershock festival.
@@glenmartinez5158 I have seen that many of times. It would be killer if they toured together in 2025.
Just turned 70 .Have been into Japanese rock / metal scene since the 80's . BAND MAID is a top tier multi genre band . However as great as they are musically this group of misfits are just as fun off stage .
Saw them live and will see them again . Remember the Jimi Hendrix Experience .
Japan has a wealth of outstanding music talent
Go back to THRILL - MISA has 2 Jimi Hendrix stickers on her bass. They are there because her mother really liked Jimi Hendrix. Thanx Mom!
This is payback for giving us Leonid and Co.
Miku Kobato sold the idea of the band to management. She has a will of iron and is way into the kawaii ethos of Japanese culture ~ cute. So a maid cafe provides the experience of having a maid who calls you Master (or for a lady Princess) and serves you food complete with a magic spell cast at the table. Miku is a force of nature. Maid outfit with wings. Red rose on her headpiece. She is s PR dynamo! Selling tickets by hand. Tirelessly promoting the band. I've often commented the you could drop Miku in the middle of the Sahara with a kazoo and she would still become a rock star.
Miku fired herself as lead vocalist because her voice is somewhat unsuited for the music the band wanted to play! She learned to play rhythm guitar AFTER forming the band! She is the principal lyricist.
Before moving to Tokyo she worked 3 jobs to save enough money to fund her move plus singing lessons.
You ain't seen nothing yet! 10 plus years of proper rock and roll. Domination LIVE is a gateway performance but I am going to suggest Don't you tell Me LIVE just released from their 10th anniversary concert in Yokohama. Welcome home Master!
🐦pigeon believer😊👍❣️
Thx, Chris. I'm excited for this new journey!
I'm 62 and, after kicking off with Sabbath in 76, I spent the next 20 years enjoying a LOT of live Rock and Metal, from A(nthrax) to Z(eppelin). Then I gave up on the genres after seeing too many 'new' copies of older bands and not a lot of originality (Slipknot was probably the last original I saw, at the end of the 90's). Then, in 2016, I discovered the treasure chest of all-female or female-led, Japanese Rock and Metal bands. While I consider Band-Maid to be THE best Hard Rock band on Earth and think they are the biggest, brightest jewel on top of that treasure chest, there are many bright, shining gems in there too. Apart from checking out more Band-Maid - especially live, as in their latest release from a week ago, DON'T YOU TELL ME, live from last Nov - I'd have to recommend you have a look at the incredible musical skills of Asterism (especially their In Studio session version of CHURCH), Lovebites, Nemophila, Babymetal, Hanabie, Otoboke Beaver....the list goes on and on. I haven't looked west since 2016 (apart from The Warning, 3 sisters from Mexico who have Rock all sewn up....and I've got tickets to see them in April, here in Wales, UK.)
Thanks for the reaction. You can't go wrong with Band-Maid, because they are that good in everything you hear from them. I'd suggest their latest official live video "Don't you tell ME".
And yes, please listen to ASTERISM and be blown away, too. Incredible talent! Songs "Dawn" or "Church".
❤❤❤❤❤🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘Hell Yeah !!! BAND-MAID is a band that deserves your attention the vocalist is awesome so I cannot wait until you hear her. interesting choice to do an instrumental as a first listen
"Other bands in this Japanese ...world." You have NO IDEA what you've gotten yourself into. This is my BY FAR favorite band in the world. I'm a 52 yr old disaffected 80s metal head and they (along with other Japanese bands) have reawakened my musical essence. I do stuff for this band I would have NEVER thought I'd do for ANY band. Including traveling the country, and starting a UA-cam channel dedicated to them. It's wild but BOY is it a blast. Just wait till you get to hear them live and with the singer Saiki.
Amen
Best band in the world 🤘🎎🔥🔥🔥🔥
Welcome to the pigeonhole, po!

"A musical beating"--says it all
I've seen a handful of your reactions, but I know you are a fan of The Warning. The two bands are huge fans of each other. Band Maid are, in my (and perhaps many others) the BEST band to come along in at least the last 2 generations. At 53, I always wondered how and why people reacted to the Beatles the way they did at first. Now, I know.
Band Maid Puzzle live tokyo garden ,domination live, freedom live
Their newest MV off of their UA-cam channel. "Don't You Tell Me" Live Would be a nice intro to Saiki, their lead vocalist.
ASTERISM, yes. They were initially instrumental only, but now HAL-CA the guitarist has started to sing. She's not such a great singer, in my opinion, but that's only against the backdrop of her being probably the best currently active guitarist playing in a real band... well, to my taste, I understand that with three million or so bands in the world when I say "THE best" it can have only a relatively local meaning.
I would suggest one of their older songs, like "Dawn." Take the studio version, or take the live version "ASTERISM 『DAWN』2019/04/20" by Takako - it's a fancam from the first row, but that's their friend who records a lot of their live shows, so, it's kind of semi-official. The sound quality is pretty good, you will not be disappointed.
Although recently I keep rewatching their wonderful cover of Scuttle Buttin. The version from Takako is also the best. I would say, ASTERISM's cover is a bit better than the original. Well, HAL-CA and MIYU the bassist are 16 there, and at 16 your fingers move a bit faster than when you are 40.
And I'm glad you discovered BAND-MAID 🥰 For me (again, FOR ME), BAND-MAID is the best band in the world. But ASTERISM has the best guitarist and the best bassist in the world, so... You see, it's a bit complicated for me 😊
Holy Shit is the correct response.

The ladies of Band-Maid are even better live. Might I suggest either Play! or Domination, the official live video, of course.
Now you have to watch Scandal, These ladies are the OG'S of japanese rock. Think they've been doing it around thirteen years now
A lot of people have suggested their very recent live "Don't You Tell ME", which is killer, but I think for contrast you might also want to check out their very first music video, "Thrill", which is going on 10 years old at this point. But pretty much any music video or live video on their official channel is gonna be excellent.

1 song is normally all it takes Jeremy. If they still don't like the Maids after 2 songs then they must be uploading from padded cells.
Welcome, Scott. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 190 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:
BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom.
Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular!
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ua-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/v-deo.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Shambles, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Sense, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): ua-cam.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/v-deo.html)
And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. ua-cam.com/users/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts:

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans.

Absolutely awesome info as always Sir Tom of Maidsville.😌
Holy shit! Who needs Wikipedia! Thanks for all of this!
@RockandRollRelic Maidiacs have an evangelical fervor to share the love we get from their music and all the info you need to appreciate this "miracle" of a band!
@@GaryHolloway-810 Did you notice I included Dean's MIDI covers link? Actually, he made me. ;-)
@@TomClark-Futoura I did notice but i didn't know he made you. It is something he'd do tho.😏
I saw them live in 2019 and just BARELY missed them as they toured the states this year. As for recommendations, Dice can't be beat.
Thanks Scotty. Great reaction! Bandmaid, Lovebites and Nemophila are my favorite bands. I hope you give Lovebites another shot, as they are every bit as good as Bandmaid. Unless you just don't like Metal. I always hated American Metal and wouldn't listen to it, but I love all these girls, for obvious reasons.
Rock and metal are thriving in Japan! So many bands. Most are all female.
The MAID's have a few instrumentals which were written to give the lead singer a break during concerts...They are not long as they combine them with a song sung by the rhythm guitarist and band founder who also throws in some MC audience participation...The lead singer then returns and the concert carrys on..The instrumentals are also a throw back to their early days when some critics said they were miming and couldn't actually play their instruments...So they all put out cover video's of themselves playing..A HUGE insult to these very talented ladies..Oh!..and it's "Pigeon 🕊Hole"..no rabbits here.😉.....Long May They Reign!👑
And this track didn't even have their charismatic lead vocalist on it. Look forward to your next one!
Konnichiwa, Po! Down the Pigeon-hole we go. Been "kicked to the curb" for the last 40 years or so in mainstream music, regarding masterclass level musicians that actually play their instruments, so I stayed in my Jazz fusion/Classic Jazz/Bluegrass genres, until a few years back when I discovered Band Maid. I see masterclass musical composition in Kanami (Lead G, main composer) and technically advanced lyrics, both in "beats" (melting Japanese and English syllables) and "concept" ( injecting Japanese cultural idioms) in Miku (rhythm G, 2nd V, Main Pigeon). In car guy terms, they are a blend of car designers, engineers, and mechanics, all having a drink after winning the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race, Po! They are just that good, and they are just getting started, Po! Great reaction, Sir! 🦍🍌
Welcome to the "pigeon" hole....."po".....you may think that this display of talent and emotion would be hard to follow up.....WRONG.....their lead vocalist Saiki, adds a quality to their music that is frankly unquantifiable.....try their latest release...."Don't you tell ME" Live Yokohama....their final show of their 10 year anniversary tour.....actually ANY of their videos are top tier....but live....they shine like the sun.....thanks for the content.....and again....welcome, and enjoy
Great reaction, Asterism for sure, also East of Eden.
You have just been introduced to the phenomenal musicianship of Band-Maid....if hard rock is your thing then Band-Maid is your band.
No Chipmunk on helium vocals, no Demon Death Metal vocals, no neo-metal guitar,....just straight-up in your face Hard Rock with uplift lyrics that make you want to start every day with. Since you're a newbie and to get you up to speed, check out the official LIVE version of "Domination". They are great LIVE , but NEVER underestimate their music videos. They are, in their own right, a masterpiece of of cinematography.....especially "Manners'.
High praise for BandMaid's MV's is not expressed enough! Love the incredibly artistic MV's! Not many bands are better live but BandMaid certainly is.
Band-Maid.... Puzzle... Live. That is all.
Rock n Roll Relic , Welcome to BAND-MAID Enjoy your journey down the Pigeon hole , MISA !!! MISA !!! MISA !!! the Barefoot Bass Assassin , i`m 70 saw them live twice , Amazing , yes they have a fantastic lead vocalist , next song , Domination , official live video .

And From Now On is one of the MANY Band-Maid songs that you need a cigarette or Cigar afterwards.
And ANY song by the Ladies is good. Some are better than others, but they literally have No, NONE, ZERO bad songs.
One thing to keep in mind though is the are probably the BEST LIVE BAND currently touring. They SHINE live. The energy, the showmanship, and the music, all come together to give some of the absolute best live performances. So please check out their Live videos from their channel. Trust me, you WILL enjoy them.
One of my favourite hobbies is to track down first-time Band-Maid reactions just to hear them go "Wow!"
This!!! ☝☝☝☝
There are lots of great Japanese bands, but Band-Maud is special.
Strap yrself in pick a song and hold on to Yr hat it's a ride 🤟🤟👍👍
Yep, I'm an old..ish crotchety dude too (now, get off my lawn). Discovered The Maids 3 years ago. Best, most complete band I've seen...EVER. Pick whatever has been already suggested, or whatever hasn't. They're THAT good. Definitely check out Asterism. They're awesome too "Dawn" (live. It's a fan cam, but the audio is remarkably good) or "Church" - live in studio, or "Rising Moon" - mv or live in studio. Another killer band is Sokoninaru. "Tenohira De Odoru" is a good place to start. Buckle up, brother. It's gonna be an awesome ride! 🕊
And you haven't even heard their wonderful vocals yet. IMO, Saiki has the best voice of Japanese rock and metal.
Saiki is my favorite singer, period.
Yep, they have a singer, and a damn good one, but 4/5 of this band are already enough to leave pretty much everything else the genre has to offer out in the cold. :)
To be fair, they actually have 2 vocalists, one of whom was also featured here, as Miku, the rhythm guitarist and founder who used to work in a maid cafe, is providing the background vocals and even has a handful of songs where she takes the lead on the mic.
I also think their latest live video for 'Don't you tell ME' is a good recommendation at this point to get introduced with their singer Saiki (pronounced Sai-key) and hear more of the brilliance of these ladies. As for Asterism, I would start with their Song 'Rising Moon (Battle Session / Studio Live)'.
Greetings from Germany and welcome to the pigeon-hole! :) 🤘🏻

They are everything you said. When Saiki (Lead Vocals) is not on stage, Kanami lets her guitar sing for you. Try- Don't You Tell Me, the latest Official Live Video from Nov 2023, to see the around skills of the band and Saiki's vocals. They had three sellout tour's in the US (about 40 shows and festivals) in the last two years. So a lot of folks got to see them and are passing that on to you guys.
Chicks Rock. Usually more than us.
Miku worked at the @Home cafe in Akihabara, Tokyo. I have visited the place twice, and it's a very nice cafe that makes you smile every second of your stay. I will for sure go back next time I visit Tokyo. Miku took a lot of what she learned at @Home cafe into Band-Maid okyuni (concert) and into her lyrics. She wanted to play cool music while wearing maid costumes, which created what she calls the Gap. You see cute maids, the next second you are blown away by their powerful music 🙂
Thank you for reacting to Band-Maid. From Now On shows their very high level of musicianship, and I can assure you that they sound just as impressive live at and Okyuji.
If you thought that was great, wait until you listen to Onset Live. These ladies are truly amazing.
これぞhard rock、70年代がよみがえります。
I've been listening to Japanese bands for the last two years. You can choose any song from their catalog, they are that good. They are an awesome live band, so any live video is worth it. My Japanese journey started with WaggakiBand who are definitely worth checking out. Unlucky Morpheus is also another band to give a listen. Other than The Warning, the best stuff is coming out of Japan.
Only Miku worked at maid cafes. I'm 72 and love this band so don't consider yourself old fart yet.
Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band.
Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane.
Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar.
Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience.
MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls.
Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).
Another great song by Band-Maid is "Don't You Tell Me" Official Live =) It's one of their best live performance and believe me Band-Maid is best seen live ! Welcome and great reaction
'Don't You Tell Me' live from last years Yokohama Arena concert has just been released, it's one of their older songs but it's a bit special. You'll also see and hear Saiki (vocals), she was on fire for the whole of this 3 1/2 hour, 33 song concert. Unleash!!!!! from the same concert is also on their channel and Saiki is in full force in that one, the song is from their most recent EP of the same name. Other than that, just pick any song, you will never be disappointed.
Thanks so much nice reaction!
Your heart is still young! As long as you don`t lose your passion, you`ll always be young!
Welcome to Maid`s world!
Maybe my favorite Band-Maid track (if there can be such a thing). Sorry, Saiki, I love you, you're a great singer! But "From Now On" is simply a master piece.
Another oldie here at 61. Yes, these girls are fantastic. Saw them live last year and it was probably the best concert I've seen in all my years. Not only is the musicianship fire they have so much fun on stage it's infectious. Hopefully they tour the States again sooner than later. It is a must see. You only have 120+ songs left to review, enjoy the rabbit hole!!!
Great reaction and an instrumental from Band Maid is a good start, but now you need the full package: I recommend "Play(live)". Their official live performances have a good audio quality and they often add spicy extras to their live videos. Otherwise I recommend "Dice". But you cannot pick a wrong song, they are all special! Have fun with our band 🎀🕊️
When compared to the same population, the Japanese music industry is three times larger than in the United States.
Thanks RRR. Check out their latest upload DON'T YOU TELL ME-Live. BAND-MAID does NOT disappoint. EVER. And if they do disappoint you it's because your audio is on the fritz. As diverse a Rock band as you will ever find. AWESOME! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Peace. 1.68
"RINNE" didn't last long for me either Jk, i love DYTM live too much.😁
@@GaryHolloway-810 We know why this is so. Could be replacing Domination also. I just listened to RINNE just for you. 😎
@@jkkansasband7056 Aw you're so nice.🤭 I honestly think it could overtake Domination or maybe if the Maids release HATE? from Yokohama with the proper camerawork :)
@@GaryHolloway-810 I'm guessing they'll release another 2 vids from Yokohama. But they gotta be bangers. That's when their at their zenith. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@jkkansasband7056 And then we've got Tour Final 2 with the even better setlist (😯) & the acoustic show. I'm just waiting for the Maids to announce a livestream for that one.🤞
A couple of their latest videos from their Yokohama show would be great, my first one that I started with was the live version of domination, followed by the live version of play. If you want to see range, check out, memorable the music video and then going to shambles for music video. That might give you whiplash, but it’s gonna be a great ride :-)
I liked the music video for this tune, but I fell in love with it when I saw the live video for it. The mixing was more to my liking. In fact most of the time I prefer live to the music video. Plus, they usually add a little extra flair to the songs.
p.s Nope Misa plays a 5 string bass :) And is one of the best bass players in the world :) She can hide and summon a pick like magic :)
Rumor has it that there is an awesome cover ban called Band-Maiko. Secret Maiko Lips ls hard to beat.
This one is actually a "Pigeon Hole". Here's some background. From Reddit commenter BelievesInScience: "Miku’s last name, Kobato (小鳩) is composed of two kanjis: one meaning small (小) and the other meaning pigeon/dove (鳩). Hence Kobato can also mean “small pigeon/dove”. She adopted the pigeon persona to match that. In Japanese language, the onomatopoeic sound that pigeons/doves make is kuruppo (くるっぽ) or simply po (ぽ). So Kobato makes that sound too." Miku ends all her sentences with "po" at the end. Miku went to all the other girls when she formed the band and basically said let's play hard ass music and then look really cute. All intentional. Misa (Bassist) and Saiki (Vocalist) weren't fully on board with that idea so their outfits are a bit different. Misa's (Nickname: "The Barefoot Assassin") outfit is some form of Ninja garb, which makes total sense as she plays barefoot and absolutely kills it. When they're backstage, they do things like tell dirty jokes, having to explain them to Kanami (Lead Guitarist and genius behind most of the composition) because she is on the naive side, and vote on who has the best boobs, which is apparently Misa....lol In the smaller venues, they take a break from playing and interact with the audience. Misa always has a drink, whiskey or beer, and has been known to pour it into an audience members mouth. Akane (Drummer) (aka "Gorilla") who always has bananas handy, used to eat one on stage, autograph the peel and toss it into the audience. Americans loved it, but I think the stopped it because they just thought it was too weird (yes, that's quite something coming from the Japanese). Fun and happy girls like most all the Japanese Female Bands. Fans call themselves "Maidiacs". And the band members call the fans "Masters" and "Princesses". They have written song(s) directed specifically to their fans. Their performances are called "servings", as they feel it is their duty to serve their fans. Common them in the Japanese female bands. Always saying "they will try their best", as opposed to the Americans who are more like "don't talk to me I'm a rock star".
Thank you for your response to BAND-MAID's song, it was a very sympathetic impression. Please listen to the other songs as well, I'm sure you'll have a great time.
What a musical beating indeed!! (Great remark there). Never underestimate a Japanese woman in a maid outfit. Now you know. Congrats man on discovering this phenomenally talented and incredibly entertaining band. They have ten years worth of genius material out there now (over 140 songs, all good to OMG), and they're going to release a new album in 2024 also. Better get busy!!
I have actually visited the Maid Cafe, Miku (founder, rthythm guitar, main lyricist, red flower) worked at ..twice. It appears in the opening scene of the MV "Afterlife".
No one can hold a candle to Band - Maid
SONGS TO LISTEN TO ....DOMINATION...THRILL...DICE..HATE..THATS JUST TO START OFF ..
One of my favorite Band-Maid songs !
But can't wait until you dive down the Fox hole with Babymetal if you haven't yet. Good safe starter songs are ...
1. BMTH Kingslayer ft BabyMetal live in Tokyo (all time favorite)
2. Megitsune music video (best older song from them, and pretty much the only music video worth watching over the live, toss in karate too).
3. Monochrome live (off new album, they're not babies no more)
4. Rondo of Nightmare with Mischiefs of God intro Budokan live (best live showcasing the Kami band front and center, invite only arena, heavvvvy)
Welcome to Band Maid!!
