  • Data Science is the main focus of this episode. To talk about it, Marc Giombetti invited Mark Rowan, founder of Rowan Cognitive, and working in the field of Data Science for over 10 years.
Mark has built data science teams and launched products in start-ups and enterprises, and is an award-winning teacher, coach and mentor. In 2020, he started Rowan Cognitive Data Science Solutions to bring his know-how and technical expertise, and a strong network of partnerships to the Swiss data science community. His experience covers diverse industries such as aerospace, telecoms, insurance, and AI start-ups in transport, speech and medical tech. He trained in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence before it was cool, and also worked as a scientific researcher after obtaining his PhD in Computational Neuroscience on Alzheimer's disease modeling.
The conversation gets started right away by trying to find out what inspired our guest to pursue a career in data science. That leads to a discussion about skills and specializations valuable to data scientists, as well as common misconceptions that might exist regarding the field. Marc then digs a bit deeper into data science and AI, bringing to the table topics such as NLP, research, and open source models. Companies point of view is also not ignored in this chat, with one of the topics being the best setup for them to get into data science and common pitfalls. Approaching the finish line, we start looking into what the future may bring, what data scientists should focus on, and the role of quantum computing.
As you can see, this episode is a must-have for anyone interested in Data Science. Companies, data scientists, students, or just AI curious minds will have a blast!
