  • The Ford Escape is bad about the back door getting stuck and not opening from the inside or from the outside. What usually causes this is the drive hitting the unlock button the same time the rear passenger pulls the door handle. The video isnt great but I hope it helps someone figure out how to fix it. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for this video. It is much more helpful to have a visual than try to understand the repair book. I would have felt incredibly dumb going to a shop to have this problem fixed! My passenger side (front and rear) doors have jammed on my '02 Mazda Tribute.

Though the camera work is a little rough, it gives us with this problem a starting point at least so thanks for that. I have a passenger door that has a broken handle on the outside. I haven't tried it from the inside yet because I recall spending a bit of time trying to keep it closed so I could at least drive it. In the event that the inside handle won't allow me to open the door, this is a great video to allow me to try and get access to the actuator to get it open if needs be. Then I can replace the handle on the outside and I should be golden. Thanks for taking the time to do this vid. Might come in very handy.

+Ozzie Im sorry you had trouble with the video. There is a small metal switch beside electrical plug on the inside of the door that you have to get moving freely up and down. Hit the door locks a time or two after you flip it down and the door should come open. Sorry again for the video quality my video glasses were the only thing I could use in such a tight space. I hope this helps.

I had the same problem with my 03 Escape... it was locked all the time. Then one day, my niece was visiting and she opened the door... and it has opened ever since. Now, this past summer, my niece discovered that the same door is now unlocked... all the time! No matter how many times I try to lock it (with or without the key fob/alarm), it will not lock! Even if the car alarm is engaged, I can open that door without the alarm going off. I have also tried manually locking it, but it just will not lock. Advice?

I’ve had to fix mine several times the last time I just kept flipping it and pulling the door handle till it worked. Some times it takes a minute. Good luck and merry Christmas.

What about if outside door handles are loose like not attached or is that what also happens?

I have that problem too on my driver's rear door. The handle is broken and loose so won't open. I may have to use this if the inside doesn't open it up. The handle needs to be replaced on mine. Same with yours?

@@frankdelaneyjr.2631 Good to know. Thanks for the heads up.

You might not be able to fully remove the front panel if that's the case. Though I imagine it should still give you just enough clearance to get to the actuator, although it may be a lot more difficult to do.

And this works even with the child safety lock on? My moms 2002 the rear left passenger door has been locked for years. We are thinking it's the child safety lock stuck on.

OMG! So even in the future they still use archaic methods. 2038/01/23. Little do we know LeBron James is president of that year.
