Many years ago I was talking to a priest, casually and he asked me if I wanted to go to confession. We were riding a city bus at the time. I said I wasn't ready. I "thought" that I needed time to reflect etc. So, I refused his invitation. I said "No". I'll never forget the look on his face. He was devastated. I still remember that day and wish I had just followed through and went.
It’s been a LONG time since I’ve been to confession. Maybe 30 years or more. Reverting back to Catholicism after being in the Evangelical church for a while. The Blessed Mother was calling me back to the true church. I have an appointment for confession on 10/15/24. My list is pretty long already. Can’t wait to worship my Lord with the Holy Eucharist. Thank you heavenly Redeemer for your grace and mercy. 🩵🙏🏼
This is what I love in being a Catholic. God is very forgiving. I even forgot and got stuck in the middle of my act of contrition. The priest said it’s ok and I can pray it on my own.
It was well over 30
Years between confessions. I have strived to go every few weeks since then. I was gone from the Church for decades and am so glad to be home
This made me smile. So happy to hear you've come home.
I aswell, am back....I need confession
I wish more Catholics sounded like this. These messages give people tons of hope, and will not despair! ❤️🔥😇❤️🔥✝️❤️🔥
Catholics need to sit down and study the bible whole-heartedly.
@@wesleysimelane3423I did and that’s what led me to become Catholic 😊
@@wesleysimelane3423thats what makes you more Catholic
I’m not catholic but I want to be. I just don’t know where to start.I’m seeking answers.
@@si018 Agree. Good advice.
Start praying the rosary every day. Mother Mary will bring you to her Son. Hallow app has a daily rosary that is wonderful to follow along with, even if you don’t have an actual rosary. Ask God to give you wisdom and direction. Read His Word.
This is how I started back in April, after months of researching and listening to Catholic podcasts. Pints with Aquinas has some great videos. After 2 full weeks of praying the rosary I found myself going to my first Mass and then beginning RCIA.
God Bless You. I will pray for you. 🤍
Please, call the Catholic Church near you and tell that to the person who answers or ask to speak to a priest who will be glad to guide you. Be aware that Satan will try to stop you from taking the first step! Invoke the Name of Jesus often, with a simple "Jesus help me" ! God bless you and may He give you the strength to come home. 🙏 for you.
I recently returned to The Church and confession after a loooooong time. When it was over, I remembered that it's never the terrible experience I anticipate lol. Gotta keep reminding myself that!
I go every three months, and I still never feel like I know what I'm doing. But it doesn't matter. As soon as you walk through the door, the whole thing is God's love falling on you, surrounding you. He knows you're doing your best. He knows you're trying. Just imagine Him smiling because there is so much joy in Heaven when you enter that confessional.
Thank you for this comment: I need to go to confession and it’s been forever: I’m nervous but I know when I go I’ll probably start crying:
Same here, I go but never sure if I'm doing the right thing
@@cristinagulinazzo2986why aren't you sure if it is the right thing?
@@Jensterableit is fine if you cry. Just go. Sacrament of confession is a huge gift we need to use often. God wants to forgive you you just need to go
Thank you Father, your video gave me the courage to go to confession.
I must go! I always put it off as I have anxiety but whenever I do go, it’s fine (a relief).
Nice clip. Most people who have been gone a long time are afraid of being yelled at.
Thank you father!
It would also help to just make an appointment so that you don’t hold up the line during the normal hour and you’ll have more time for the priest to help you and navigate you through it
“Just come.” So good to hear.
What has helped me is knowing that there is no new sin under the sun and most of us have the same weakness.
Thank you. I needed to hear this. I have this fear to confess because I don’t know what to do
Same here, I get very nervous every time I go to confession and specially because I don't know the act of contriction.
@@cristinagulinazzo2986don't worry about that. There is many short forms too. In case you forget you can use your own words
The devil wants you not to go. Don't fall into his trap. As long as you want to truly repent any confession is better than nothing.
A good confession by all Catholics could revolutionize our church and our world I say 2x a month at a minimum 😇🙏
Today I went to my frist real confession since 10 years. Just go, you will feel better. Thank you God for your mercy. And thank you Priests. I have got much respect of you. God bless you🕊
As a practicing Catholic - I’d say well done. Thank you for reminding people to get help with Their examination of Their Conscience.
Also the Bible said Confess your sins to one another. I’ve know priests who’ve helped Jews, Moslems, Buddhists, Indians (from India), Secularists, Humanists, etc. Confession is the One Sacrament for Everyone & Anyone. You do Not need to be Catholic. ❤
I remember on the Patrick madrid show a year or so a go, a guy called in, saying he went to confession for the first time in 65 years. He said the priest was excited he came back
For me when I came back to the church he was around 45 years it took me a long time to remember everything and God remind me of some sins that I did most of the immortal and the Lord God the father really helped me
Yes, just get there-absolutely. BUT, if it’s been years, please consider making an appointment first and then going, so you’re not holding up the confession line. If it’s a matter of not going at all or just stopping in, then stop in, but please consider others who are trying to get in there too- especially right before Mass.
You don't need to go in with a notebook filled with sins. You can generalize your sins. Instead of saying I took the lords name in vain on 7/10, I took the lords name in vain on 9/12. Just say I took the lords name in vain multiple times. Priests don't need details they just need the sins you have committed.
Exactly! Just go!
Thank you Father….🙏🏻
Thank you
Thank God for His wonderful gift of the Sacrament of Confession and for the priests who bring it to us! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
✝️John 20:29✝️ Blessed are those who have not Seen , But has Believed 💖
I have never been to confesion. I usualy speak with God directly. Yesterday and today I felt guilty about it.Yesterday and today God let me know that it's fine. Imediately after I had this thought in my head imediately heard you can do it directly, priest guides you and helps you but forgivness comes from God.
Thank you this is exactly what I needed to hear.
I really want to go but I don't remember the procedure inside of the confessional
There’s a many good videos you can watch about the process here on yt
Also at my parish, there is "how ti" pamphlets. Maybe check and or ask someone?
Thank you for this piece
Go to Confession. Its the cure for so many people because afterwards you will be like a newly baptized baby completely free of every sin you ever committed in your life. Jesus instituted this beautiful Sacrament. There is nothing like it in this world. Jesus heals us ! Peace!
What about us Southern Baptists? Would we be turned away? What if we want to find out what it’s all about?
I remember reading about a protestant interested in going to confession. He explained his situation to the priest. The priest said "I can hear your confession but since you are a not Catholic,I cannot give you absolution." So he did confession... but the priest refused to absolve his sins. The man, did eventually become a Catholic.
Thank you, Father.❤
This to me seems to be the biggest reason ppl dont go to confession.
What is the biggest reason people font go to confession? You have adj different people?
But can't I just confess to the Lord? The Lord only
confession is always to God, but through priests. Jesus has always said to confess. Matt 9:8 says that God gave the authority to forgive sins to MEN, not A man (Jesus), but men here on earth. 1 John 1:9 as the father sent me, I am sending you… if you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven, if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven”. Again, we see that He tells us to confess to others not Himself or not straight to God. Luke 17:11, talking about the men with leprocy (in the Bible leprocy theologically represents sin) “they called out… Jesus.. have mercy on us. When he saw them he said, go present yourselves to the priests.”. Again, he sent them to the priests. Why a man who’s sinful? First, the priest isn’t who forgives us, it’s God acting through the priest. Second, Hebrews 5:1, “every priest is selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people”. Yes, they are sinners, we all are. But God knows and acknowledges that to us, that’s what He chose and how He chose to do things🤷🏼♀️.
Amen
Why do I need the priest to talk to God about my sins? What do you usually tell people as I assume others have the same question.
Is there any theological pertinent reason to go to confession? Can we just carry on like normal without it?
You can go to The Father directly that's why when Jesus died the veil was torn in the Temple, you don't need a priest any longer.
Is that what God says or what you say?
Ty
@@aaronsask6936 that is from God. Not everything the Catholic Church says is correct. Would you rather go to God who is perfect and holy or to a human being who is imperfect and sinful? Btw, I'm I'm a Catholic.
@@aaronsask6936 it's in the Bible.
Matthew 27:51
@@freedomgal3726 Veil torn, got it. Now tell me where God instructs you to confess sin directly to him, in those words. God ultimately forgives you but it is through the instrument of his priesthood that his words of absolution are so beautifully spoken. You have never had that kind of healing and weight lifted off your shoulders until you have heard God almighty say it to you himself, believe me.
Jesus' priesthood is in the order of Melchizedek and according to Hebrews 7 and Psalm 110 it shall last forever. Read also Genesis 14:18. James 5:16 asks us to confess to one another to be healed! John 20:21-23 sees Jesus giving his successors the Holy Spirit and the authority to both forgive and retain sin. The reason is simple. We can tell ourselves we are forgiven, we are righteous, we have the correct interpretation of scripture etc. We become our own God of our minds and can forgive ourselves of just about anything without a heart of contrition, or the council of someone who has heard our confession, give absolution of our sins and keep us accountable. I hope you will experience this some day.
I don't have a way to get to confession or Mass and I'm tired of people saying judgemental things.
Do priest confess to each other?
Yes, and they have to tell their confessor that they're a priest so that he will know the particulars of his duties. Priests are held to a higher standard due to their role as shepherds.
What about children who haven’t receive the first communion? Can they still go through reconciliation?
Can a person come to confession even when not Catholic
Yes. What you say is protected by the seal of confession. You can't recieve absolution as a non Catholic. However, you can confess your sins and recieve guidance.
can we confess twice a month?
@HESTIA
You can confess weekly. There should be confession available often at your local parish ^_^
@@nicoleyoshihara4011 yeah the available sched of confession here is like open for 6 days every week but can we confess twice a week?
@@hestia598 if you commit a mortal sin I would advise to go asap. If not I think once a week should be ok. I would ask the priest for better advice😅
You can confess multiple times a day if you need. Hopefully you aren't sinning that much. However, go to confession when you need to. Their is no standard on how often you can go.
Yikes. I confess nothing!
Just kidding I need to go for the first time.
Confess to whom?? 😂
God. Through the priest. Confession is biblical.
Why does a man/woman have to confess to another man? Mathew 6 6 Why not take it straight to the Lord like you're supposed to. This catholic religion is a false teaching and every one needs to repent and believe the gospel of Jesus Christ!!! Galatians 1 8-9 Not the mother of Jesus, not the saints, call NO MAN father for you have ONE FATHER who is in heaven. Mathew 23 9 also get rid of the rosery beads they are demonic Leviticus 26 1
Thank you
